Growth and Repair Potential of Three Species of Bacteria in Reclaimed Wastewater after UV Disinfection显示文摘Objective The growth and repair potential of three typical microorganisms in reclaimed water after UV disinfection was investigated to assess the effects of photo-reactivation and dark repair of microorganisms, and the microbial safety of reclaimed water following this procedure. Methods The growth and repair potential of Escherichia coli,a fecal coliform strain and Bacillus subtilis in the effluent of a biological wastewater treatment plant disinfected by a low-pressure UV lamp were investigated. Results Any increase in bacterial numbers in the effluent after UV disinfection was due to damage repair.Exposure to photo-reactivating light for 8-10 h after UV irradiation with a dose of 5 mJ/cm 2,the highest percentage of photo-reactivation observed for E.coli and the fecal coliform strain was 29% and 15% respectively.B.subtilis showed little photo-reactivation under these conditions. The percentage of photo-reactivation was related to the UV dose and the photo-reactivating time, and a function was developed to forecast the final concentrations of E.coli and the fecal coliform strain after UV disinfection with possible photo-reactivation.Conclusion Different species of bacteria displayed different responses to UV light and different repair potentials. The repair of indigenous bacteria in wastewater needs to be investigated in future work. | GUO MeiTing HUANG JingJing HU HongYing LIU WenJun | 2011 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2011,24,4: | 8
PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling orchestrates the phenotypic transition and chemo-resistance of small cell lung cancer显示文摘Small cell lung cancer(SCLC)is a phenotypically heterogeneous disease with an extremely poor prognosis, which is mainly attributed to the rapid development of resistance to chemotherapy. However, the relation between the growth phenotypes and chemo-resistance of SCLC remains largely unclear.Through comprehensive bioinformatic analyses,we found that the heterogeneity of SCLC phenotype was significantly associated with different sensitivity to chemotherapy.Adherent or semiadherent SCLC cells were enriched with activation of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway and were highly chemoresistant.Mechanistically, activation of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway promotes the phenotypic transition from suspension to adhesion growth pattern and confers SCLC cells with chemo-resistance.Such chemo-resistance could be largely overcome by combining chemotherapy with PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway inhibitors. Our findings support that the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway plays an important role in SCLC phenotype transition and chemo-resistance,which holds important clinical implications for improving SCLC treatment. | Xuefeng Li Cheng Li Chenchen Guo Qiqi Zhao Jiayu Cao Hsin-Yi Huang Meiting Yue Yun Xue Yujuan Jin Liang Hu Hongbin Ji | 2021 | Journal of Genetics and Genomics2021,48,7: | 5
Ultra-thin metal-organic framework nanoribbons显示文摘Structure engineering of metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)at the nanometer scale is attracting increasing interest due to their unique properties and new functions that normally cannot be achieved in bulk MOF crystals. Here,we report the preparation of ultra-thin MOF nanoribbons(NRBs)by using metal-hydroxide nanostructures as the precursors.Importantly, this general method can be used to synthesize various kinds of ultra-thin MOF NRBs,such as MBDC(M=Co,Ni;BDC=1,4-benzenedicarboxylate),NiCoBDC,CoTCPP(TCPP=tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin)and MIL-53(Al)NRBs.As a proof-of-concept application, the as-prepared ultra-thin Co BDC NRBs have been successfully used as a fluorescent sensing platform for DNA detection, which exhibited excellent sensitivity and selectivity. The present strategy might open an avenue to prepare MOF nanomaterials with new structures and unique properties for various promising applications. | Bingqing Wang Meiting Zhao Liuxiao Li Ying Huang Xiao Zhang Chong Guo Zhicheng Zhang Hongfei Cheng Wenxian Liu Jing Shang Jing Jin Xiaoming Sun Junfeng Liu Hua Zhang | 2020 | National Science Review2020,7,1: | 1
Review of preferentially selective lithium extraction from spent lithium batteries: Principle and performance显示文摘Lithium,as the lightest and lowest potential metal,is an ideal 'battery metal' and the core strategic metal of the new energy industry revolution.Recovering lithium from spent lithium batteries(LIBs)has become one of the significant approaches to obtaining lithium resources. At present, the lithium extraction being generally placed at the last step of the spent LIBs recovery process has puzzles such as high acid consumption, low Li recovery purity and low recovery efficiency.Selective lithium extraction at the first step of the recovery process can effectively solve those puzzles.Since lithium leaching is a non-spontaneous reaction requiring additional energy to achieve,it is found that these methods can be divided into five ways according to the different types of energy driving the reaction occurring:(ⅰ)electric energy driving lithium extraction;(ⅱ) chemical energy driving lithium extraction;(ⅲ) mechanical energy driving lithium extraction;(ⅳ) thermal energy driving lithium extraction;(ⅴ) other energy driving lithium extraction.Through the analysis of the principle, reaction process and results of recovering lithium methods can provide a few directions for scholars’ subsequent research. It is necessary to speed up the exploration of the principle of these methods. It is expected that this study could provide a reference for the research on the selective lithium extraction. | Zhe Gao Meiting Huang Liming Yang Yufa Feng Yuan Ding Penghui Shao Xubiao Luo | 2023 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2023,,3: | 1
Modified R-CODOX-M/IVAC chemotherapy regimens in Chinese patients with untreated sporadic Burkitt lymphoma显示文摘Objective:To characterize modified R-CODOX-M/IVAC-based chemotherapy to lower the severe adverse events in Chinese adult patients with sporadic Burkitt lymphoma. Methods:We enrolled a retrospective cohort including 123 adult patients with untreated sporadic Burkitt lymphoma from August 2008 to September 2019 at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center. We studied a dose-modified and long-course R-CODOX-M/IVAC regimen utilizing a low dose of 1.0 g/m2/cycle cyclophosphamide,2 g/m2/cycle methotrexate,4,500 mg/m2/cycle ifosfamide, and 4.0 g/m2/cycle cytarabine.Forty-nine patients with low risk disease underwent 4–6 cycles of dose-modified R-CODOX-M-based chemotherapy.Seventy-four patients with high risk disease underwent 6–8 cycles of dose-modified alternating R-CODOX-M/IVAC regimens. Results:The objective remission was 87.0%.The event-free survival rate and overall survival at 3 years were 81.2%and 92.1%,respectively.Major grade 3–4 adverse events included leukopenia(91.9%),anemia(58.5%),thrombocytopenia(73.2%),and febrile neutropenia(48.8%).A total of 26.0%and 37.4%of patients received red blood cell and platelet transfusions, respectively. We observed 4 cases(3.3%)of septic shock after chemotherapy. Two treatment-related deaths occurred from severe infection. Conclusions:The modified R-CODOX-M/IVAC chemotherapy regimen was effective for sporadic Burkitt lymphoma in the Chinese population, with a lower toxicity than standard regimens. | Meiting Chen Zhao Wang Xiaojie Fang Yuyi Yao Quanguang Ren Zegeng Chen Ying Tian Fei Pan Xiaoqian Li Zhiming Li Qingqing Cai He Huang Tongyu Lin | 2021 | Cancer Biology & Medicine2021,18,3: | 0
