1Immobilization of functional nano-objects in living engineered bacterial biofilms for catalytic applications显示文摘Nanoscale objects feature very large surface-area-to-volume ratios and are now understood as powerful tools for catalysis,but their nature as nanomaterials brings challenges including toxicity and nanomaterial pollution.Immobilization is considered a feasible strategy for addressing these limitations.Here,as a proof-of-concept for the immobilization of nanoscale catalysts in the extracellular matrix of bacterial biofilms,we genetically engineered amyloid monomers of the Escherichia coli curli nanofiber system that are secreted and can self-assemble and anchor nano-objects in a spatially precise manner.We demonstrated three scalable,tunable and reusable catalysis systems:biofilm-anchored gold nanoparticles to reduce nitro aromatic compounds such as the pollutant p-nitrophenol,biofilm-anchored hybrid Cd0.9Zn0.1S quantum dots and gold nanoparticles to degrade organic dyes and biofilm-anchored CdSeS@ZnS quantum dots in a semi-artificial photosynthesis system for hydrogen production.Our work demonstrates how the ability of biofilms to grow in scalable and complex spatial arrangements can be exploited for catalytic applications and clearly illustrates the design utility of segregating high-energy nano-objects from injury-prone cellular components by engineering anchoring points in an extracellular matrix.Xinyu Wang Jiahua Pu Yi Liu Fang Ba Mengkui Cui Ke Li Yu Xie Yan Nie Qixi Mi Tao Li Lingli Liu Manzhou Zhu Chao Zhong 2019National Science Review2019,6,5:9
2Crust and upper mantle structure of East Asia from ambient noise and earthquake surface wave tomography显示文摘The complex tectonic background of East Asia makes it an ideal region for investigating the evolution of the continental lithosphere,for which high-resolution lithospheric structural models are essential.In this study,we measured Rayleigh-wave phase-velocity dispersion curves at periods of 10-120 s and group velocity dispersion curves at periods of 10-140 s using event records from more than 1,000 seismic stations in and around China.By jointly inverting new and previously published dispersion data from ambient noise and earthquakes,we developed a high-resolution shear-wave velocity model down to a depth of~300 km beneath East Asia.Our model revealed heterogeneous lithospheric structures beneath East Asia,and allowed us to investigate the velocity structure of the entire lithosphere.We also derived crustal and lithospheric thickness models from the three-dimensional(3D)shear-wave model,revealing strong spatial heterogeneity and a general thinning trend of lithospheric thickness from west to east across the study region.Overall,our models reveal important lithospheric features beneath East Asia and provide a valuable baseline dataset for understanding continental-scale dynamics and evolution.Mengkui Li Xiaodong Song Jiangtao Li Xuewei Bao 2022Earthquake Science2022,35,2:2
3Distribution of Intra-Crustal Low Velocity Zones beneath Yunnan from Seismic Ambient Noise Tomography显示文摘Previous studies have reached consensus that low velocity zones are widespread in the crust beneath Yunnan region. However, the relationships between the low velocity zones and large faults, earthquake distribution are less investigated by available studies. By analyzing the seismic ambient noise recorded by Yunnan Seismic Networks and Tengchong volcano array, we construct a 3D crustal shear wave velocity model for the Yunnan region, which provides more details of the distribution of intra-crustal low velocity zones all over Yunnan. The distribution of low velocity zones shows different features at different depths. At shallow depths, the results are well correlated with near surface geological features. With increasing depth, the low velocity zones are gradually concentrated on the northern part of our study area, most likely reflecting variations in crustal thickness beneath the Yunnan region. The low velocity zones are truncated at depth by several large faults in Yunnan. It is interesting that most strong earthquakes(Ms≥5.0) occurred in Yunnan are distributed in low velocity zones or the transition zones between low and high velocity anomalies within the upper-to-middle crust. 4Diatom-inspired multiscale mineralization of patterned protein-polysaccharide complex structures显示文摘Marine diatoms construct their hierarchically ordered,three-dimensional(3D)external structures called frustules through precise biomineralization processes.Recapitulating the remarkable architectures and functions of diatom frustules in artificial materials is a major challenge that has important technological implications for hierarchically ordered composites.Here,we report the construction of highly ordered,mineralized composites based on fabrication of complex self-supporting porous structures—made of genetically engineered amyloid fusion proteins and the natural polysaccharide chitin—and performing in situ multiscale protein-mediated mineralization with diverse inorganic materials,including SiO_(2),TiO_(2)and Ga_(2)O_(3).Subsequently,using sugar cubes as templates,we demonstrate that 3D fabricated porous structures can become colonized by engineered bacteria and can be functionalized with highly photoreactive minerals,thereby enabling co-localization of the photocatalytic units with a bacteria-based hydrogenase reaction for a successful semi-solid artificial photosynthesis system for hydrogen evolution.Our study thus highlights the power of coupling genetically engineered proteins and polysaccharides with biofabrication techniques to generate hierarchically organized mineralized porous structures inspired by nature.Ke Li Yingfeng Li Xinyu Wang Mengkui Cui Bolin An Jiahua Pu Jintao Liu Boyang Zhang Guijun Ma Chao Zhong 2021National Science Review2021,8,8:1
5Crustal Structure of Yunnan Province of China from Teleseismic Receiver Functions:Implications for Regional Crust Evolution显示文摘Yunnan Province is located on the southeastern margin of Tibet and represents an important marker in understanding the tectonic evolution of Tibetan Plateau. In this study, we calculated teleseismic P-wave receiver functions at 49 permanent broadband seismic stations in Yunnan Province and estimated crustal thickness and the bulk crust ratios of P-wave to S-wave velocities using the H-κ method together with more detailed crustal structural profiles from the common conversion point stacking method. There is a significant transition of Moho interface and lower crustal composition along latitude 26°N in northwestern Yunnan. Decrease of crustal thickness with a concomitant increase of Poisson's ratio occurs at station CUX. An interesting phenomenon is that a step-like Moho fashion is observed at several stations, which might correspond to local thermal activities, such as partial melt/lower crust delamination. Our results show changes in crustal properties appear to be associated with varieties in upper mantle structure and compositions. 6Preparation of M/Ce_(1-x)Ti_(x)O_(2)(M=Pt,Rh,Ru)from sol-gel method and their catalytic oxidation activity for diesel Soot显示文摘A series of Ce_(1-x)Ti_(x)O_(2)mixed oxide catalysts were synthesized by sol-gel method and then loading of noble metal(M=Pt,Rh,Ru)was used for soot oxidation.Ti-doped Ce_(1-x)Ti_(x)O_(2)catalysts(x is the molar ratio of Ti/(Ti+Ce)and ranges from 0.1 to 0.5)exhibit much better oxidation performance than CeO_(2)catalyst,and the Ce_(0.9)Ti_(0.1)O_(2)catalyst calcined at 500℃has the best catalysis activity.Each noble metal(1 wt%)was supported on Ce_(0.9)Ti_(0.1)O_(2)(M/C9 T1)and the properties of the catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),Raman,Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET)method,and H_(2)-temperature programmed reduction(H_(2)-TPR)results.Results show that the introduction of Ti into CeO_(2)forming Ti-O-Ce structure enhances the catalytic activity and increases the number of oxygen vacancies at the catalyst surface.The noble metal is highly dispersed over Ce_(0.9)Ti_(0.1)O_(2),and M/C9 T1 catalysts present enhanced activity in comparison to Ce_(0.9)Ti_(0.1)O_(2).It is found that noble metals can greatly increase the activity of the catalyst and the corresponding oxidation rate of soot can enhance the electron transfer capacity and oxygen adsorption capacity of the catalyst.A small amount of Ti doping in CeO_(2)can significantly improve the activity of the catalyst,while a large amount of Ti reduces the performance of the catalyst because a large amount of Ti is enriched on the surface of the catalyst,which hinders the contact and reaction between the catalyst and the soot.Bing Zhao Wenlin Chen Yifeng Tan Fan Li Mengkui Tian 2022Journal of Rare Earths2022,40,12:1
7Recovering Period of Postseismic Fluid Pressure in Fault Valve显示文摘The present study aims to reveal the recovering period of the postseismic fluid pressure in fault zone,offering an insight into earthquake recurrence.Numerical modeling is performed based on a 2D simple layered fault-valve model to simulate the fluid activities within the earthquake fault.In order to demonstrate the features of postseismic fluid pressure in natural state,the interference of tectonic movements is not considered.The recovering period of postseismic fluid pressure includes a suddenchanging period and a much longer fluctuating period.Modeling results show that fault permeability and porosity are sensitive parameters and reversely proportional to the recovering period of the fluid pressure in earthquake fault zone.When the permeability reduces from 10-15 to 10-18 m2,the recovering period increases from 400 to 2 000 yrs,correspondently.The upper and lower fluid pressures are separated by the valve seal,causing their fluctuations in opposite tendencies.Shuangxi Zhang Chen Zhang Yu Zhang Chaoyu Zhang Lingxi Liu Mengkui Li 2015Journal of Earth Science2015,26,4:1

9Peanut-chocolate-ball-inspired construction of the interface engineering between CdS and intergrown Cd:Boosting both the photocatalytic activity and photocorrosion resistance显示文摘Interface engineering can improve the charge separation efficiency and inhibit photocorrosion is an emerging direction of developing more efficient and cost-effective photocatalytic systems.Herein,we report the sulfur-confined intimate Cd S intergrown Cd(Cd S/Cd)Ohmic junction(peanut-chocolate-ball like)for high-efficient H2production with superior anti-photocorrosion ability,which was fabricated from in-situ photoreduction of CdS intergrown Cd2SO4(OH)2(CdS/Cd2SO4(OH)2)prepared through a facile space-controlled-solvothermal method.The ratios of CdS/Cd can be effectively controlled by tunning that of CdS/Cd2SO4(OH)2which were prepared by adjusting the volume of reaction liquid and the remaining space of the reactor.Experiments investigations and density functional theory(DFT)calculations reveal that the Cd S intergrown Cd Ohmic junction interfaces(with appropriate content Cd intergrown on Cd S(19.54 wt%))are beneficial in facilitating the transfer of photogenerated electrons by constructing an interfacial electric field and forming sulfur-confined structures for preventing the positive holes(h+)oxidize the Cd S.This contributes to a high photocatalytic H2production activity of 95.40μmol h-1(about 32.3 times higher than bare Cd S)and possesses outstanding photocatalytic stability over 205 h,much longer than most Cd S-based photocatalysts previously reported.The interface engineering design inspired by the structure of peanut-chocolate-ball can greatly promote the future development of catalytic systems for wider application.Wending Zhou Feng Li Xiangfei Yang Wanliang Yang Chun Wang Rui Cao Chengliang Zhou Mengkui Tian 2023Journal of Energy Chemistry2023,,1:0
10A deep-learning-based approach for seismic surface-wave dispersion inversion(SfNet)with application to the Chinese mainland显示文摘Surface-wave tomography is an important and widely used method for imaging the crust and upper mantle velocity structure of the Earth.In this study,we proposed a deep learning(DL)method based on convolutional neural network(CNN),named SfNet,to derive the vS model from the Rayleigh wave phase and group velocity dispersion curves.Training a network model usually requires large amount of training datasets,which is labor-intensive and expensive to acquire.Here we relied on synthetics generated automatically from various spline-based vS models instead of directly using the existing vS models of an area to build the training dataset,which enhances the generalization of the DL method.In addition,we used a random sampling strategy of the dispersion periods in the training dataset,which alleviates the problem that the real data used must be sampled strictly according to the periods of training dataset.Tests using synthetic data demonstrate that the proposed method is much faster,and the results for the vS model are more accurate and robust than those of conventional methods.We applied our method to a dataset for the Chinese mainland and obtained a new reference velocity model of the Chinese continent(ChinaVs-DL1.0),which has smaller dispersion misfits than those from the traditional method.The high accuracy and efficiency of our DL approach makes it an important method for vS model inversions from large amounts of surface-wave dispersion data.Feiyi Wang Xiaodong Song Mengkui Li 2023Earthquake Science2023,36,2:0
