| 1 | Recent advances in image processing techniques for automated leaf pest and disease recognition – A review显示文摘Fast and accurate plant disease detection is critical to increasing agricultural productivity in a sustainable way.Traditionally,human experts have been relied upon to diagnose anomalies in plants caused by diseases,pests,nutritional deficiencies or extreme weather.However,this is expensive,time consuming and in some cases impractical.To counter these challenges,research into the use of image processing techniques for plant disease recognition has become a hot research topic.In this paper,we provide a comprehensive review of recent studies carried out in the area of crop pest and disease recognition using image processing and machine learning techniques.We hope that this work will be a valuable resource for researchers in this area of crop pest and disease recognition using image processing techniques.In particular,we concentrate on the use of RGB images owing to the low cost and high availability of digital RGB cameras.We report that recent efforts have focused on the use of deep learning instead of training shallow classifiers using handcrafted features.Researchers have reported high recognition accuracies on particular datasets but in many cases,the performance of those systems deteriorated significantly when tested on different datasets or in field conditions.Nevertheless,progress made so far has been encouraging.Experimental results showing the leaf disease recognition performance of ten CNN architectures in terms of recognition accuracy,recall,precision,specificity,F1-score,training duration and storage requirements are also presented.Subsequently,recommendations are made on the most suitable architectures to deploy in conventional as well as mobile/embedded computing environments.We also discuss some of the unresolved challenges that need to be addressed in order to develop practical automatic plant disease recognition systems for use in field conditions. | Lawrence C.Ngugi Moataz Abelwahab Mohammed Abo-Zahhad | 2021 | Information Processing in Agriculture2021,8,1: | 13 |
| 2 | Reversibility of minimal hepatic encephalopathy following liver transplantation in Egyptian cirrhotic patients显示文摘AIM To evaluate the reversibility of minimal hepatic encephalopathy(MHE) following liver transplantation(LT) in Egyptian cirrhotic patients. METHODS This prospective study included twenty patients with biopsy-proven liver cirrhosis listed for LT and twenty ageand sex-matched healthy control subjects. All underwent neuro-psychiatric examination, laboratory investigations, radiological studies and psychometric tests including trail making test A(TMT A), TMT B, digit symbol test and serial dotting test. The psychometric hepatic encephalopathy score(PHES) was calculated for patients to diagnose MHE. Psychometric tests were repeated six months following LT in the cirrhotic patient group. RESULTS Before LT, psychometric tests showed highly significant deficits in cirrhotic patients in comparison to controls(P < 0.001). There was a statistically significant improvement in test values in the patient group after LT; however, their values were still significantly worse than those of the controls(P < 0.001). The PHES detected MHE in 16 patients(80%) before LT with a median value of -7 ± 3.5. The median PHES value was significantly improved following LT, reaching-4.5 ± 5(P < 0.001), and the number of patients with MHE decreased to 11(55%). The pre-transplant model for end-stage liver disease(MELD) score ≥ 15 was significantly related to the presence of post-transplant MHE(P = 0.005). | 4 | Visual and refractive outcomes of posterior chamber phakic IOL in stable keratoconus显示文摘We evaluated the visual and refractive outcomes after phakic visian toric implantable collamer lens(ICL) insertion in stable keratoconus(KC). This retrospective study investigated toric ICL implantation in 14 eyes of 8 patients with stable KC. After 6 mo, the mean uncorrected distance visual acuity improved significantly from 0.77 to 0.15 logMAR. The mean best corrected distance visual acuity(BCDVA) improved from 0.18±0.1 to 0.15±0.1 logMAR. Fifty percent of eyes maintained their preoperative BCDVA; 42.8% gained one line. There was no statistical difference in high order or coma aberration. The mean refractive manifest spherical equivalent(MSE), mean refractive manifest spherical error, mean manifest astigmatism decreased significantly postoperatively. At 6 mo postoperatively, our achieved mean spherical equivalent was approximately 74%. No intraoperative or postoperative complications occurred. | 5 | Does vitamin C have the ability to augment the therapeutic effect of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells on spinal cord injury?显示文摘Methylprednisolone(MP) is currently the only drug confirmed to exhibit a neuroprotective effect on acute spinal cord injury(SCI). Vitamin C(VC) is a natural water-soluble antioxidant that exerts neuroprotective effects through eliminating free radical damage to nerve cells. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BMMSCs), as multipotent stem cells, are promising candidates in SCI repair. To evaluate the therapeutic effects of MP, VC and BMMSCs on traumatic SCI, 80 adult male rats were randomly divided into seven groups: control, SCI(SCI induction by weight-drop method), MP(SCI induction, followed by administration of 30 mg/kg MP via the tail vein, once every other 6 hours, for five times), VC(SCI induction, followed by intraperitoneal administration of 100 mg/kg VC once a day, for 28 days), MP + VC(SCI induction, followed by administration of MP and VC as the former), BMMSCs(SCI induction, followed by injection of 3 × 10~6 BMMSCs at the injury site), and BMMSCs + VC(SCI induction, followed by BMMSCs injection and VC administration as the former). Locomotor recovery was assessed using the Basso Mouse Scale. Injured spinal cord tissue was evaluated using hematoxylin-eosin staining and immunohistochemical staining. Expression of transforming growth factor-beta, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, and matrix metalloproteinase-2 genes was determined using real-time quantitative PCR. BMMSCs intervention better promoted recovery of nerve function of rats with SCI, mitigated nerve cell damage, and decreased expression of transforming growth factor-beta, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, and matrix metalloproteinase-2 genes than MP and/or VC. More importantly, BMMSCs in combination with VC induced more obvious improvements.
