| 1 | Soil Organic Carbon Pools in Particle-Size Fractions as Affected by Slope Gradient and Land Use Change in Hilly Regions,Western Iran显示文摘This study was conducted to explore the effects of topography and land use changes on particulate organic carbon(POC),particulate total nitrogen(PTN),organic carbon(OC) and total nitrogen(TN) associated with different size primary particle fractions in hilly regions of western Iran.Three popular land uses in the selected site including natural forest(NF),disturbed forest(DF) and cultivated land(CL) and three slope gradients(0-10 %,S1,10-30 %,S2,and 30-50%,S3) were employed as the basis of soil sampling.A total of 99 soil samples were taken from the 0-10 cm surface layer in the whole studied hilly region studied.The results showed that the POC in the forest land use in all slope gradients was considerably more than the deforested and cultivated lands and the highest value was observed at NF-S1 treatment with 9.13%.The values of PTN were significantly higher in the forest land use and in the down slopes(0.5%) than in the deforested and cultivated counterparts and steep slopes(0.09%) except for the CL land use.The C:N ratios in POC fraction were around 17-18 in the forest land and around 23 in the cultivated land.In forest land,the silt-associated OC was highest among the primary particles.The enrichment factor of SOC,EC,was the highest for POC.For the primary particles,EC of both primary fractions of silt and clay showed following trend for selected land uses and slope gradients:CL> DF> NF and S3 > S2> S1.Slope gradient of landscape significantly affected the OC and TN contents associated with the silt and clay particles,whereas higher OC and TN contents were observed in lower positions and the lowest value was measured in the steep slopes.Overall,the results showed that native forest land improves soil organic carbon storage and can reduce the carbon emission and soil erosion especially in the mountainous regions with high rainfall in west of Iran. | Parisa Mokhtari KARCHEGANI Shamsollah AYOUBI Mohammad Reza MOSADDEGHI Naser HONARJOO | 2012 | Journal of Mountain Science2012,9,1: | 10 |

| 3 | Effect of acupotomy versus electroacupuncture on ethology and morphology in a rabbit model of knee osteoarthritis显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the treatment effect of acupotomy(Apo) in a rabbit model of knee osteoarthritis(KOA), compare the results of Apo versus electroacupuncture(E-Apu) on ethology, morphology, and structure of the articular cartilage surface in a rabbit model of KOA, and analyze the differences in the treatment effects of Apo versus E-Apu.METHODS: Twenty-eight male New Zealand white rabbits were randomized into four groups: normal control, blank model, Apo, and E-Apu(n = 7 in each group). Except for the normal control group, the left hindlegs of all rabbits were fixed in an extended position for 5 weeks to establish the KOA model.The passive range of motion(PROM) and Lequesne index were measured before and after the establishment of the KOA model to assess the ethology in all groups. Safranin O-fast green staining and the Mankin score were used to assess the morphological cartilaginous changes to compare the effect of Apo versus E-Apu on the degeneration of articular cartilage, and to identify which therapy was superior in treating KOA.RESULTS: Compared with before the establishment of the KOA model, the Lequesne index of the KOA model rabbits was significantly increased(P <0.01), while the PROM was significantly decreased(P < 0.01). The articular cartilaginous tissue in the three model groups exhibited pathological variations in the form of laminar derangement of cartilage cells, and so the Mankin score was significantly increased compared with the control group(P <0.01). At 1 week after the final treatment session,compared with the blank model group, both the Apo and E-Apu groups showed a significant decrease in the Lequesne index(P < 0.01), and attenuation in the degree of morphologic pathological changes(P < 0.05); The Apo improved the PROM significantly compared with the blank model group(P < 0.05), while the E-Apu had no effect(P > 0.05).Furthermore, compared with the E-Apu group, the Apo group had a significantly lower Lequesne index(P < 0.05), and a significantly greater PROM(P <0.05).CONCLUSION: In a rabbit model of KOA, both Apo and E-Apu reduce disorders of ethology and morphology, and improve the condition of the articular cartilage. | 7 | Egg consumption and risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease显示文摘AIM To evaluate the association between egg consumption and risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) development.METHODS This case-control study was conducted on individuals who were referred to two hepatology clinics in Tehran, Iran in 2015. The study included 169 patients with NAFLD and 782 controls. Egg consumption was estimated using a validated food frequency questionnaire. The participants were categorized according to the frequency of their egg consumption during the previous year: Less than two eggs per week, two to three eggs per week, and four or more eggs per week.RESULTS In the crude model, participants who consumed 2 to 3 eggs per week, were 3.56 times more likely to have NAFLD in comparison to those who consumed less than 2 eggs per week(OR: 3.56; 95%CI: 2.35-5.31). Adjustment for known risk factors of NAFLD strengthenedthis significant association so that individuals have consumed two to three eggs per week had 3.71 times higher risk of NAFLD than those who have eaten less than two eggs per week(OR: 3.71; 95%CI: 1.91, 7.75). Many lessons from 1978 Tabas, 1990 Rudbar, and 2003 Bam did not become 'Lessons Learned' and they were identified again within the dramatic context of other earthquake disasters in various places of Iran. | 14 | ELECTROSPINNING OF CYCLODEXTRIN FUNCTIONALIZED CHITOSAN/PVA NANOFIBERS AS A DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM显示文摘A new type of nanofibrous structure from chitosan bearing carboxymethyl--cyclodextrin(CS-g--CD) as a novel drug delivery system was synthesized by grafting carboxymethyl--cyclodextrin(CM-CD) onto chitosan(CS) in the presence of water soluble 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide(EDC) as the condensing agent and N-hydroxysuccinimide(NHS). Defect free mats containing CS-g--CD have been fabricated using electrospinning of an aqueous solution of poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA)/CS-g--CD blends. The morphology and diameter of the electrospun nanofibers were examined by scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The average fiber diameter was in the range of 130 210 nm. SEM images showed that the morphology and diameter of the nanofibers were mainly affected by weight ratio of the blend at constant applied voltage. The results revealed that increasing CS-g--CD content in the blends decreases the average fiber diameter. | 15 | Dissociation of polar oil components in low salinity water and its impact on crude oil-brine interfacial interactions and physical properties显示文摘Despite many efforts into the study of fluids interaction in low salinity water flooding, they are not probing the basics of transport phenomena between the involved phases. This work is aimed to bring new understanding of fluid-fluid interaction during low salinity water flooding through a series of organized experiments in which a crude oil sample with known properties was kept in contact with different brine solutions of various ionic strengths. Measuring brine pH, conductivity and crude oil viscosity and density for a period of 45 days illustrates the strong effect of the contact time and ionic strength on the dissociation of polar components and physical properties of the crude oil and brine. Besides, the interfacial tension(IFT) measurements show that the interfacial interactions are affected by several competitive interfacial processes. By decreasing the ionic strength of the brine, the solubility of naphthenic acids in the aqueous solution increases, and hence,the conductivity and the pH of the aqueous phase decrease. To verify this important finding, UV-Vis spectroscopy and 'H NMR analysis were also performed on aged brine samples. | 17 | Comparative study of kinetic modeling for the oxidative coupling of methane by genetic and marquardt algorithms显示文摘Overall kinetic studies on the oxidative coupling of methane,OCM,have been conducted in a tubular fixed bed reactor,using perovskite titanate as the reaction catalyst.The appropriate operating conditions were found to be:temperature 750-775 ℃,total feed flow rate of 160 ml/min,CH4 /O2 ratio of 2 and GHSV of 100·min-1 .Under these conditions,C 2 yield of 28% was achieved.Correlations of the kinetic data have been performed with lumped rate equations for C2 and COx formation as functions of temperature,O2 and CH4 partial pressures.Six models have been selected among the common lumped kinetic models.The selected models have been regressed with the experimental data which were obtained from the Catatest system by genetic algorithm in order to obtain optimized parameters.The kinetic coefficients in the overall reactions were optimized by different numerical optimization methods such as:the Levenberg-Marquardt and genetic algorithms and the results were compared with one another.It has been found that the Santamaria model is in good agreement with the experimental data.The Arrhenius parameters of this model have been obtained by linear regression.It should be noted that the Marquardt algorithm is sensitive to the first guesses and there is possibility to trap in the relative minimum. | Shahrnaz Mokhtari Ali Vatani Nastaran Razmi Farooji | 2010 | Journal of Natural Gas Chemistry2010,19,3: | 2 |
