| 1 | Effects of Salinity and Potassium Application on Antioxidant Enzyme Activities and Physiological Parameters in Pearl Millet显示文摘A plot culture experiment was conducted in a greenhouse at University of Zabol,Iran,to study the effects of different salinity levels and potassium supply on pearl millet.The experiment was laid out in a completely randomized factorial design with three replicates.Potassium sulfate was used as the potassium source.The rates of potassium treatments were 0,100,and 200 kg ha-1.Pearl millet was subjected to different salinity levels(0,4,8,and 12 ds m-1) through addition of NaCl to irrigation water.Results showed that the increase in the salt concentration from control to 12 ds m-1 decreased grain yield(38.7%) of millet plants.In this study,we found a negative relationship between potassium and proline accumulation at vegetative(r2=-0.75**) and reproductive stage(r2=-0.66**) in millet plants.Salt stress remarkably elevated the activities of CAT and GPX antioxidant enzymes at vegetative and reproductive stages.Furthermore,potassium application had significant effect on grain yield and increased it about 10.6% at the highest salinity treatment(12 ds m-1).Though,potassium treatment increased antioxidant activity in millet plants,it had no significant effect on proline content in leaves.Salinity treatment decreased potassium uptake but application potassium increased potassium content in leaves at two stages. | Mostafa Heidari Parisa Jamshidi | 2011 | Agricultural Sciences in China2011,10,2: | 6 |
| 2 | Comparison among Ocular Response Analyzer,Corvis ST and Goldmann applanation tonometry in healthy children显示文摘AIM: To explore the relationship between different parameters of Ocular Response Analyzer(ORA) and Corvis ST(CST) in a sample of healthy Iranian school-aged children and the relationship between parameters of these 2 instruments against intraocular pressure(IOP), measured by the Goldmann applanation tonometer(GAT-IOP), age and gender, and find possible correlation between ORA and CST with GAT.METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 90 healthy children. A general interview and complete eye examination were performed. Following successful GATIOP measurement, ORA and CST were conducted. The CST parameters were A 1/2 length(A1 L, A2 L), A 1/2 velocity(A1 V, A2 V), highest concavity deformation amplitude(HCDA), radius of curvature(Ro C), peak distance(PD), central corneal thickness(CCT) and IOP. The ORA parameters were corneal hysteresis(CH), corneal resistance factor(CRF), Goldmann-correlated IOP(IOP-G) and corneal compensated IOP(IOP-CC). Extracted data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science software.RESULTS: Totally 39 males with age of 9.08±1.60(6-12)y and 51 females with age of 8.96±1.55(6-13)y were included. Many CST parameters were significantly correlated with CH, CRF, IOP-G and IOP-CC. Some CST parameters had a significant correlation with GAT-IOP, including IOP-CST in both eyes and HCDA, A2 L, PD, and RoC in the left eye, but none with age, except A2 L in the right eye. The CRF measurement showed a significant correlation with GAT-IOP in both eyes and CH in the right eye, yet, none with age. Among all CST and ORA parameters, CCT-CST in both eyes and A1 L in right eye had a significant correlation with gender, although this was a negligible negative correlation. Comparison of mean IOP values by different devices showed a significantly highest IOP overestimation by CST and lowest by IOP-CC compared with GAT. Also, IOP-G versus IOP-CST significantly had the lowest IOP overestimation among others. Overall, either low positive correlation or negligible correlation was found between IOP measurements by 3 instruments.CONCLUSION: The study finds the highest IOP overestimation by CST and lowest by IOP-CC compared with GAT. | 6 | Nucleic Acid Metabolism, Proline Concentration and Antioxidants Enzyme Activity in Canola (Brassica nupus L.) Under Salinity Stress显示文摘Seedling of five canola genotypes, Hyola 308, Hyola 401, Hyola 60, Optlon 50 and RGS003, were grown in Hoagland nutrient solution containing S1 = 0, S2 = 100, S3 = 200 and S4 = 300 mmol L-1 NaCl in controlled environment. Proline, antioxidant activities like catalase (CAT), ascobrate peroxidase (APX) and guaiacol peroxidase (GPX) and some enzyme activities of nucleic acid metabolism were determined in shoot and root 20 days after induction of salinity stress. Results showed application of stress significantly affected plant growth components such as fresh (FW) and dry weight (DW) of canola genotypes. Among the genotypes, RGS003 had the highest reduction of FW and DW in S3 treatment. By increasing NaCl levels from 0 to 300 mmol L-1, the activity of two antioxidant enzymes (APX and CAT) in shoot and root increased but GPX in all of genotypes decreased. The increase in salinity stress, increased proline concentration in both root and shoot tissues of canola genotypes. Hyola 401 genotype had the maximum concentration of proline in root and shoot in S3 treatment. | 7 | Spatial variability of soil development indices and their compatibility with soil taxonomic classes in a hilly landscape: a case study at Bandar village, Northern Iran显示文摘Soil complexity and its multivariable nature restrict the precision of soil maps that are essential tools for soil sustainable management. Most methods developed for reducing impurities of soil map units focus on soil external properties. Taking into account the soil internal properties like geochemical weathering indices could increase the map unit's purity. However, the compatibility of these indices with Soil Taxonomic Classes has not been studied yet. This study has been performed in a hilly region with different soil types, vegetation and diverse topographic attributes to illustrate the spatial variability of soil weathering indices and their compatibility with Soil Taxonomic Classes. The grid sampling is at 100 m interval. Physico-chemical and total elemental analyses were performed on 184 and 56 soil samples respectively. Eight topographic attributes and 14 common soil development indices were determined. Principal components analysis(PCA) was done to identify the most important components. The results indicated that Morphological Index(MI) was the best index to show the degree ofsoil development in the studied region. Spatial distribution of Soil Taxonomic Classes showed relatively good compatibility with the first principal component(PC1), Vogt(V) and morphological indices.
