1India at crossroads for energy显示文摘As one of the fastest growing economies and further larger consumer of energy in the world, there has been a paradigm shift in India’s energy demand. Here we evaluate the growth of Indian economy its, diversification of agriculture-based economy to industrial production, service and digital-technology based economy and deepening of income sources, although the dependence on foreign sources for energy demands has not markedly improved. This situation has placed India at the crossroads for energy sufficiency, especially under the highly fluid and changing geopolitical, strategic, environmental and economic scenarios of the World order. We attempt to understand the issue from geological perspective and address some of the impediments.Mu Ramkumar M.Santosh Manoj J.Mathew Numair A.Siddiqui 2021Geoscience Frontiers2021,12,6:0

3Hydrocarbon reserves of the South China Sea:Implications for regional energy security显示文摘The countries such as China,Vietnam,Philippines,Malaysia,Indonesia and Brunei that border South China Sea region have immense stakes in exploring and exploiting the natural resources of the region including hydrocarbon.More than the hydrocarbon reserves, the South China Sea is home to World’s high-networth trade route that brings the interests of non-geographic entities to this region.Further, the purported reserves of hydrocarbon in the region are in the orders of Persian Gulf but are not yet properly explored and the reserves recovered owing to territorial and non-claimant stakeholder’s influences/interventions.This paper is a synopsis of information on the hydrocarbon reserves of the South China Sea region, and evaluates the territorial and extra-territorial interests in the light of energy security and equitable development and utilization of natural resources from a geological perspective. We also suggest several measures for future consideration and implementation.Mu Ramkumar M.Santosh Manoj J.Mathew David Menier R.Nagarajan Benjamin Sautter 2020Energy Geoscience2020,1,1:0
4Reservoir characterization and enhanced oil recovery: Preface显示文摘A systematic and thorough understanding of the reservoir facies, commencing from exploration methods, identification, and precise characterization and predicting applicable analogues are essential tasks that form the crux of petroleum exploration and cost-effective exploitation.Mu Ramkumar R.Nagarajan M.Santosh 2021Energy Geoscience2021,2,4:0
5Advances in sediment geochemistry and chemostratigraphy for reservoir characterization显示文摘Sedimentary sequences preserve the records of changes in major controls of sedimentation namely, tectonics, climate, relative sea level and sediment production and preservation. The potential to characterize these changes in spatial and temporal scales has led to the development of the branch of chemostratigraphy.Chemostratigraphic study of sedimentary sequences commenced from recognizing identical/contrasting geochemical features across major geochronological boundaries, and evolved into one of the essential tools in exploration, characterization, and well development strategies.Chemostratigraphy incorporates applications on continuous,real-time geochemical mapping and direction of lateral drilling, and machine learning, among others. As the sedimentary systems operate on a variety of temporal scales that range from few hours(tidal cycles)to few tens of millions of years, within which many perturbations such as catastrophic and diagenetic events take place, that lead to unique geochemical signature which can be correlated at appropriate spatial and temporal scales. The application of chemostratigraphic technique in hydrocarbon exploration and reservoir characterization has gained momentum in recent years, particularly with the advent of developments in analytical instrumentation. This has also led to the integration of a variety of data from field sedimentary structures, mineralogy, major, trace and isotopic chemical compositions of whole rock, selected components of rocks, organic and inorganic components of oil and gas, etc.,for reservoir characterization more accurately than ever. The geochemical fingerprinting of oil and gas reservoir components plays a major role in the identification of source rocks, discrimination of oil families, characterization of reservoir, source, and seal segments in petroleum systems.Future trends indicate the relevance and growing applications of machine learning techniques, artificial intelligence in real-time assessment, monitoring and planning of hydrocarbon exploration and production.Mu Ramkumar R.Nagarajan M.Santosh 2021Energy Geoscience2021,2,4:0
