Automatic protocol reverse engineering for industrial control systems with dynamic taint analysis显示文摘Proprietary(or semi-proprietary)protocols are widely adopted in industrial control systems(ICSs).Inferring protocol format by reverse engineering is important for many network security applications,e.g.,program tests and intrusion detection.Conventional protocol reverse engineering methods have been proposed which are considered time-consuming,tedious,and error-prone.Recently,automatical protocol reverse engineering methods have been proposed which are, however, neither effective in handling binary-based ICS protocols based on network traffic analysis nor accurate in extracting protocol fields from protocol implementations. In this paper,we present a framework called the industrial control system protocol reverse engineering framework(ICSPRF)that aims to extract ICS protocol fields with high accuracy.ICSPRF is based on the key insight that an individual field in a message is typically handled in the same execution context,e.g.,basic block(BBL)group. As a result,by monitoring program execution,we can collect the tainted data information processed in every BBL group in the execution trace and cluster it to derive the protocol format. We evaluate our approach with six open-source ICS protocol implementations. The results show that ICSPRF can identify individual protocol fields with high accuracy(on average a 94.3%match ratio).ICSPRF also has a low coarse-grained and overly fine-grained match ratio. For the same metric,ICSPRF is more accurate than AutoFormat(88.5%for all evaluated protocols and 80.0%for binary-based protocols). | Rongkuan MA Hao ZHENG Jingyi WANG Mufeng WANG Qiang WEI Qingxian WANG | 2022 | Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering2022,23,3: | 1
Spatiotemporal Distribution of Asian Horseshoe Crab Eggs Are Highly Intermingled with Anthropogenic Structures in Northern Beibu Gulf,China显示文摘Identification, protection and restoration of spawning habitats are vital for protecting the depleted species.Asian horseshoe crabs are ecologically important macroinvertebrates in coastal and estuarine ecosystems. However, their spawning habitat studies were limited to several reports in tropical regions, possibly due to the lack of modified survey methods, particularly in habitats with a lower density of spawning adults,and/or intermingled with anthropogenic structures. In this study, the year-round egg distribution and spawning habitat baselines of Carcinoscorpius rotundicauda and Tachypleus tridentatus were determined in the northern Beibu Gulf,China. Our findings demonstrated that the peak spawning occurred in June–July and ceased in November–January when the average water temperature dropped below 20℃.Egg aggregations were found<10 cm beneath the sediment surface with regular tidal inundation, regardless of seasonal changes,in the vicinity of natural and artificial structures with elevated, mildly sloping substratum within the high tide zones. The nests were characterized by medium-sized sediment grains(0.5–0.9 mm),high temperatures(31–34℃),low water contents(0.8%–0.9%),and total organic carbon contents(0.5%–0.7%),which might maximize the hatching success. The identified nesting beaches were close to nursery habitats for juveniles, and tidal creeks were present as the possible corridor connecting these two important habitats through the dominant mangrove forests. The findings provide valuable insights in the scope of spawning behavior and nest-site selection of Asian horseshoe crabs under a mixture of natural and artificial structures, which could benefit future management efforts for the exploited spawning populations. | KWAN Kit Yue FU Yijian ZHONG Mufeng KUANG Yang BAI Haiwei ZHANG Ce ZHEN Wenquan XU Peng WANG Chun-Chieh ZHU Junhua | 2022 | Journal of Ocean University of China2022,21,3: | 1
A novel long-term intravenous combined with local treatment with human amnion-derived mesenchymal stem cells for a multidisciplinary rescued uremic calciphylaxis patient and the underlying mechanism显示文摘Calciphylaxis is a rare disease characterized histologically by microvessel calcification and microthrombosis, with high mortality and no proven therapy. Here,we reported a severe uremic calciphylaxis patient with progressive skin ischemia, large areas of painful malodorous ulcers, and mummified legs.Because of the worsening symptoms and signs refractory to conventional therapies, treatment with human amnion-derived mesenchymal stem cells(hAMSCs)was approved.Preclinical release inspections of hAMSCs,efficacy, and safety assessment, including cytokine secretory ability, immunocompetence, tumorigenicity, and genetics analysis in vitro, were introduced. We further performed acute and long-term hAMSC toxicity evaluations in C57BL/6 mice and rats, abnormal immune response tests in C57BL/6 mice, and tumorigenicity tests in neonatal Balbc-nu nude mice. After the preclinical research, the patient was treated with hAMSCs by intravenous and local intramuscular injection and external supernatant application to the ulcers. When followed up to 15 months, the blood-based markers of bone and mineral metabolism improved, with skin soft tissue regeneration and a more favorable profile of peripheral blood mononuclear cells.Skin biopsy after 1-month treatment showed vascular regeneration with mature noncalcified vessels within the dermis, and 20 months later, the re-epithelialization restored the integrity of the damaged site.No infusion or local treatment-related adverse events occurred. Thus, this novel long-term intravenous combined with local treatment with hAMSCs warrants further investigation as a potential regenerative treatment for uremic calciphylaxis due to effects of inhibiting vascular calcification, stimulating angiogenesis and myogenesis,anti-inflammatory and immune modulation,multidifferentiation,re-epithelialization,and restoration of integrity. | Lianju Qin Jing Zhang Yujie Xiao Kang Liu Yugui Cui Fangyan Xu Wenkai Ren Yanggang Yuan Chunyan Jiang Song Ning Xiaoxue Ye Ming Zeng Hanyang Qian Anning Bian Fan Li Guang Yang Shaowen Tang Zhihong Zhang Juncheng Dai Jing Guo Qiang Wang Bin Sun Yifei Ge Chun Ouyang Xueqiang Xu Jing Wang Yaoyu Huang Hongqing Cui Jing Zhou Meilian Wang Zhonglan Su Yan Lu Di Wu Jingping Shi Wei Liu Li Dong Yinbing Pan Baiqiao Zhao Ying Cui Xueyan Gao Zhanhui Gao Xiang Ma Aiqin Chen Jie Wang Meng Cao Qian Cui Li Chen Feng Chen Youjia Yu Qiang Ji Zhiwei Zhang Mufeng Gu Xiaojun Zhuang Xiaolin Lv Hui Wang Yanyan Pan Ling Wang Xianrong Xu Jing Zhao Xiuqin Wang Cuiping Liu Ningxia Liang Changying Xing Jiayin Liu Ningning Wang | 2022 | Journal of Molecular Cell Biology2022,14,2: | 1
Detection and localization of cyber attacks on water treatment systems:an entropy-based approach显示文摘With the advent of Industry 4.0,water treatment systems(WTSs)are recognized as typical industrial cyber-physical systems(iCPSs)that are connected to the open Internet.Advanced information technology(IT)benefits the WTS in the aspects of reliability, efficiency, and economy. However, the vulnerabilities exposed in the communication and control infrastructure on the cyber side make WTSs prone to cyber attacks. The traditional IT system oriented defense mechanisms cannot be directly applied in safety-critical WTSs because the availability and real-time requirements are of great importance. In this paper,we propose an entropy-based intrusion detection(EBID)method to thwart cyber attacks against widely used controllers(e.g.,programmable logic controllers)in WTSs to address this issue.Because of the varied WTS operating conditions, there is a high false-positive rate with a static threshold for detection. Therefore,we propose a dynamic threshold adjustment mechanism to improve the performance of EBID.To validate the performance of the proposed approaches,we built a high-fidelity WTS testbed with more than 50 measurement points. We conducted experiments under two attack scenarios with a total of 36attacks,showing that the proposed methods achieved a detection rate of 97.22%and a false alarm rate of 1.67%. | Ke LIU Mufeng WANG Rongkuan MA Zhenyong ZHANG Qiang WEI | 2022 | Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering2022,23,4: | 0
Cardiac CT blooming artifacts:clinical significance, root causes and potential solutions显示文摘This review paper aims to summarize cardiac CT blooming artifacts, how they present clinically and what their root causes and potential solutions are.A literature survey was performed covering any publications with a specific interest in calcium blooming and stent blooming in cardiac CT.The claims from literature are compared and interpreted, aiming at narrowing down the root causes and most promising solutions for blooming artifacts.More than 30 journal publications were identified with specific relevance to blooming artifacts. The main reported causes of blooming artifacts are the partial volume effect, motion artifacts and beam hardening. The proposed solutions are classified as high-resolution CT hardware,high-resolution CT reconstruction, subtraction techniques and post-processing techniques, with a special emphasis on deep learning(DL)techniques. The partial volume effect is the leading cause of blooming artifacts. The partial volume effect can be minimized by increasing the CT spatial resolution through higherresolution CT hardware or advanced high-resolution CT reconstruction. In addition,DL techniques have shown great promise to correct for blooming artifacts.A combination of these techniques could avoid repeat scans for subtraction techniques. | Jed DPack Mufeng Xu Ge Wang Lohendran Baskaran James Min Bruno De Man | 2022 | Visual Computing for Industry,Biomedicine, and Art2022,5,1: | 0
