Roux-en-Y versus BillrothⅠreconstruction after distal gastrectomy for gastric cancer:A meta-analysis显示文摘AIM:To conduct a meta-analysis to compare Rouxen-Y(R-Y) gastrojejunostomy with gastroduodenal Billroth Ⅰ(B-Ⅰ) anastomosis after distal gastrectomy(DG) for gastric cancer.METHODS:A literature search was performed to identify studies comparing R-Y with B-Ⅰ after DG for gastric cancer from January 1990 to November 2012 in Medline,Embase,Science Citation Index Expanded and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials in The Cochrane Library.Pooled odds ratios(OR) or weighted mean differences(WMD) with 95%CI were calculated using either fixed or random effects model.Operative outcomes such as operation time, intraoperative blood loss and postoperative outcomes such as anastomotic leakage and stricture, bile reflux, remnant gastritis, reflux esophagitis, dumping symptoms, delayed gastric emptying and hospital stay were the main outcomes assessed.Meta-analyses were performed using RevMan 5.0 software(Cochrane library).RESULTS:Four randomized controlled trials(RCTs) and 9 non-randomized observational clinical studies(OCS) involving 478 and 1402 patients respectively were included.Meta-analysis of RCTs revealed that R-Y reconstruction was associated with a reduced bile reflux(OR 0.04,95%CI:0.01,0.14;P < 0.00 001) and remnant gastritis(OR 0.43,95%CI:0.28,0.66;P = 0.0001),however needing a longer operation time(WMD 40.02,95%CI:13.93,66.11;P = 0.003).Metaanalysis of OCS also revealed R-Y reconstruction had a lower incidence of bile reflux(OR 0.21,95%CI:0.08,0.54;P = 0.001),remnant gastritis(OR 0.18,95%CI:0.11,0.29;P < 0.00 001) and reflux esophagitis(OR 0.48,95%CI:0.26,0.89;P = 0.02).However,this reconstruction method was found to be associated with a longer operation time(WMD 31.30,95%CI:12.99,49.60;P = 0.0008).CONCLUSION:This systematic review point towards some clinical advantages that are rendered by R-Y compared to B-Ⅰ reconstruction post DG.However there is a need for further adequately powered, welldesigned RCTs comparing the same.Jun-Jie Xiong Kiran Altaf Muhammad A Javed Quentin M Nunes Wei Huang Gang Mai Chun-Lu Tan Rajarshi Mukherjee Robert Sutton Wei-Ming Hu Xu-Bao Liu 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,7:33
Meta-analysis of laparoscopic vs open liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM:To conduct a meta-analysis to determine the safety and efficacy of laparoscopic liver resection(LLR) and open liver resection(OLR) for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS:PubMed(Medline),EMBASE and Science Citation Index Expanded and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials in the Cochrane Library were searched systematically to identify relevant comparative studies reporting outcomes for both LLR and OLR for HCC between January 1992 and February 2012.Two authors independently assessed the trials for inclusion and extracted the data.Meta-analysis was performed using Review Manager Version 5.0 software(The Cochrane Collaboration,Oxford,United Kingdom).Pooled odds ratios(OR) or weighted mean differences(WMD) with 95%CI were calculated using either fixed effects(Mantel-Haenszel method) or random effects models(DerSimonian and Laird method).Evaluated endpoints were operative outcomes(operation time, intraoperative blood loss, blood transfusion requirement),postoperative outcomes(liver failure, cirrhotic decompensation/ascites,bile leakage, postoperative bleeding, pulmonary complications, intraabdominal abscess, mortality, hospital stay and oncologic outcomes(positive resection margins and tumor recurrence).RESULTS:Fifteen eligible non-randomized studies were identified, out of which,9 high-quality studies involving 550 patients were included, with 234 patients in the LLR group and 316 patients in the OLR group.LLR was associated with significantly lower intraoperative blood loss, based on six studies with 333 patients [WMD:-129.48 mL;95%CI:-224.76-(-34.21) mL;P = 0.008].Seven studies involving 416 patients were included to assess blood transfusion requirement between the two groups. The LLR group had lower blood transfusion requirement(OR:0.49;95%CI:0.26-0.91;P = 0.02).While analyzing hospital stay, six studies with 333 patients were included.Patients in the LLR group were found to have shorter hospital stay [WMD:-3.19 d;95%CI:-4.09-(-2.28) d;P < 0.00001] than their OLR counterpart.Seven studies including 416 patients were pooled together to estimate the odds of developing postoperative ascites in the patient groups. The LLR group appeared to have a lower incidence of postoperative ascites(OR:0.32;95%CI:0.16-0.61;P = 0.0006) as compared with OLR patients.Similarly, fewer patients had liver failure in the LLR group than in the OLR group(OR:0.15;95%CI:0.02-0.95;P =0.04).However,no significant differences were found between the two approaches with regards to operation time [WMD:4.69 min;95%CI:-22.62-32 min;P = 0.74],bile leakage(OR:0.55;95%CI:0.10-3.12;P = 0.50),postoperative bleeding(OR:0.54;95%CI:0.20-1.45;P = 0.22),pulmonary complications(OR:0.43;95%CI:0.18-1.04;P = 0.06),intra-abdominal abscesses(OR:0.21;95%CI:0.01-4.53;P = 0.32),mortality(OR:0.46;95%CI:0.14-1.51;P = 0.20),presence of positive resection margins(OR:0.59;95%CI:0.21-1.62;P = 0.31) and tumor recurrence(OR:0.95;95%CI:0.62-1.46;P = 0.81).CONCLUSION:LLR appears to be a safe and feasible option for resection of HCC in selected patients based on current evidence. However, further appropriately designed randomized controlled trials should be undertaken to ascertain these findings.Jun-Jie Xiong Kiran Altaf Muhammad A Javed Wei Huang Rajarshi Mukherjee Gang Mai Robert Sutton Xu-Bao Liu Wei-Ming Hu 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,45:25
Biosorption characteristics of unicellular green alga Chlorella sorokiniana immobilized in loofa sponge for removal of Cr(Ⅲ)显示文摘Loofa sponge(LS)immobilized biomass of Chlorella sorokiniana(LSIBCS),isolated from industrial wastewater, was investigated as a new biosorbent for the removal of Cr(Ⅲ)from aqueous solution.A comparison of the biosorption of Cr(Ⅲ)by LSIBCS and free biomass of C.sorokiniana(FBCS)from 10-300 mg Cr(Ⅲ)/L aqueous solutions showed an increase in uptake of 17.79% when the rnicroalgal biomass was immobilized onto loofa sponge.Maximum biosorption capacity for LSIBCS and FBCS was found to be 69.26 and 58.80 mg Cr(Ⅲ)/g biosorbent, respectively, whereas the amount of Cr(Ⅲ)ions adsorbed onto naked LS was 4.97 mg/g.The kinetics of Cr(Ⅲ)biosorption was extremely rapid and equilibrium was established in about 15 and 20 min by LSIBCS and FBCS, respectively. The biosorption equilibrium was well defined by Langrnuir adsorption isotherm model. The biosorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second order kinetic model. The biosorption was found to be pH dependent and the maximum sorption occurred at the solution pH 4.0.Desorption studies showed that 98% of the adsorbed Cr(Ⅲ)could be desorbed with 0.1 mol/L HNO_3,while other desorbing agents were less effective in the order:EDTA>H_2SO_4>CH_3COOH>HCl.The regenerated LSIBCS retained 92.68% of the initial Cr(Ⅲ)binding capacity up to five cycles of reuse in continuous flow-fixed bed columns. The study revealed that LSIBCS could be used as an effective biosorbent for the removal of Cr(Ⅲ)from wastewater.AKHTAR Nasreen IQBAL Muhammad ZAFAR Saeed Iqbal IQBAL Javed 2008Journal of Environmental Sciences2008,20,2:20
Validation of the moderate severity category of acute pancreatitis defined by determinant-based classification显示文摘BACKGROUND: Recent international multidisciplinary consultation proposed the use of local(sterile or infected pancreatic necrosis) and/or systemic determinants(organ failure) in the stratification of acute pancreatitis. The present study was to validate the moderate severity category by international multidisciplinary consultation definitions.METHODS: Ninety-two consecutive patients with severe acute pancreatitis(according to the 1992 Atlanta classification) were classified into(i) moderate acute pancreatitis group with the presence of sterile(peri-) pancreatic necrosis and/or transient organ failure; and(ii) severe/critical acute pancreatitis group with the presence of sterile or infected pancreatic necrosis and/or persistent organ failure. Demographic and clinical outcomes were compared between the two groups.RESULTS: Compared with the severe/critical group(n=59), the moderate group(n=33) had lower clinical and computerized tomographic scores(both P<0.05). They also had a lower incidence of pancreatic necrosis(45.5% vs 71.2%, P=0.015),infection(9.1% vs 37.3%, P=0.004), ICU admission(0% vs27.1%, P=0.001), and shorter hospital stay(15±5 vs 27±12days; P<0.001). A subgroup analysis showed that the moderate group also had significantly lower ICU admission rates, shorter hospital stay and lower rate of infection compared with the severe group(n=51). No patients died in the moderate group but7 patients died in the severe/critical group(4 for severe group).CONCLUSIONS: Our data suggest that the definition of moderate acute pancreatitis, as suggested by the international multidisciplinary consultation as sterile(peri-) pancreatic necrosis and/or transient organ failure, is an accurate category of acute pancreatitis.Tao Jin Wei Huang Xiao-Nan Yang Ping Xue Muhammad A Javed Kiran Altaf Robert Sutton Qing Xia 2014Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2014,13,3:13
Hepatitis B virus therapy:What's the future holding for us?显示文摘Hepatitis B is one of the leading causes of liver cancer worldwide and unfortunately the number of people affected with hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection is still on the rise. Although the HBV has been known to cause fatal illness since decades but the population effected by this lethal virus have still only a few options for its management. The major treatment strategies include interferons and nucleos(t)ide analogues. These agents have so far produced unsatisfactory results in terms of complete virus eradication. Interferons cannot be used for long term therapy because of their potential side effects. Prolong treatment with nucleos(t)ide analogues has also been reported to cause serious side effects besides the increasing resistance by the virus. The need for new innovative solutions for treatment of HBV has been realized by global research institutes and pharmaceutical industry. Present review focuses in detail on the new ideas that are being transformed into therapeutic tools for use as future therapies in HBV infection. Modern drug designing and screening methods have made the drug discovery process shorter and more reliable. HBV therapeutics will take a new turn in coming years owing to these intelligent drug designing and screening methods. Future therapy of HBV is aiming to include the use of vaccines(both prophylactic and therapeutic), immunomodulators such as antibodies, non-nucleoside antivirals such as RNAi and inhibitors of viral life cycle.Sobia Manzoor Muhammad Saalim Muhammad Imran Saleha Resham Javed Ashraf 2015World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,44:9

Thrombus aspiration during primary percutaneous coronary intervention for acute myocardial infarction:A review of clinical evidence and guidelines显示文摘Acute ST segment elevation myocardial infarction(STEMI) is characterized by complete thrombotic occlusion of a major coronary artery. Early recanalization of the infarct-related artery is most efficiently delivered by primary percutaneous coronary intervention(PPCI),however this does not always restore normal myocardial perfusion, mainly due to distal embolization of the thrombus and microvascular obstruction. Early evidence for manual thrombus aspiration during PPCI was promising and this was once considered an important aspect of the procedure, especially in patients with a high thrombus burden. However,a large body of evidence from recent major randomized controlled trials(notably TASTE and TOTAL) does not support the routine use of manual thrombus aspiration in patients with STEMI undergoing PPCI.Muhammad Muzaffar Mahmood Jonathan Watt Javed M Ahmed 2015World Journal of Cardiology2015,7,12:7
Prediction of the severity of acute pancreatitis on admission by urinary trypsinogen activation peptide: A meta-analysis显示文摘AIM: To undertake a meta-analysis on the value of urinary trypsinogen activation peptide (uTAP) in predicting severity of acute pancreatitis on admission. METHODS: Major databases including Medline, Embase, Science Citation Index Expanded and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials in the Cochrane Library were searched to identify all relevant studies from January 1990 to January 2013. Pooled sensitivity, specificity and the diagnostic odds ratios (DORs) with 95%CI were calculated for each study and were compared to other systems/biomarkers if mentioned within the same study. Summary receiver-operating curves were conducted and the area under the curve (AUC) was evaluated. RESULTS: In total, six studies of uTAP with a cut-off value of 35 nmol/L were included in this meta-analysis. Overall, the pooled sensitivity and specificity of uTAP for predicting severity of acute pancreatitis, at time of admission, was 71% and 75%, respectively (AUC = 0.83, DOR = 8.67, 95%CI: 3.70-20.33). When uTAP was compared with plasma C-reactive protein, the pooled sensitivity, specificity, AUC and DOR were 0.64 vs 0.67, 0.77 vs 0.75, 0.82 vs 0.79 and 6.27 vs 6.32, respectively. Similarly, the pooled sensitivity, specificity, AUC and DOR of uTAPvs Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation Ⅱ within the first 48 h of admission were found to be 0.64 vs 0.69, 0.77 vs 0.61, 0.82 vs 0.73 and 6.27vs 4.61, respectively. CONCLUSION: uTAP has the potential to act as a stratification marker on admission for differentiating disease severity of acute pancreatitis.Wei Huang Kiran Altaf Tao Jin Jun-Jie Xiong Li Wen Muhammad A Javed Marianne Johnstone Ping Xue Christopher M Halloran Qing Xia 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,28:7
Prevalence of non-Helicobacter pylori duodenal ulcer in Karachi,Pakistan显示文摘AIM: To determine the prevalence of non-Helicobacter pylori (H pylori)-related duodenal ulcer in patients with acid-peptic diseases.METHODS: Medical records of patients who attended the Gastroenterology Department at Aga Khan University Hospital from 1999 to 2001 and had endoscopic diagnosis of duodenal ulcers were reviewed. Duodenal ulcer associated with H pylori was diagnosed on the basis of endoscopy, rapid urease test and histopathology whereas histories of aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) related duodenal ulcers. Non-H pylori, non-NSAID duodenal ulcers were those without H pylori infection and history of NSAID intake. Co-morbid conditions associated were noted.RESULTS: Of 2 260 patients, 10% (217/2 260) had duodenal ulcer. Duodenal ulcer related to H pylori infectionaccounted for 53% (116/217), NSAID-related 10% (22/217),non-H pylori non-NSAID 29% (62/217), and 8% (17/217) had both Hpyloriinfection and histories of NSAID intake. Fifteen percent (18/116)_patients had past histories of peptic ulcer disease in Hpyloriinfection, while 8% (5/62) in non-Hpylorinon-NSAID ulcer. Co-morbid conditions in H pylori infection were seen in 23% (27/116) and 34%(21/62) in non-H pylori non-NSAID ulcer.CONCLUSION: Incidence of H pylori infection related with duodenal ulcer is common. In the presence of co-morbids, non-Hpyloriand non-NSAID duodenal ulcer is likely to be present.Javed Yakoob Wasim Jafri Nadim Jafri Muhammad Islam Shahab Abid Saeed Hamid Hasnain AliShah Hizbullah Shaikh 2005World Journal of Gastroenterology2005,11,23:6
Structural, morphological, Raman, optical, magnetic, and antibacterial characteristics of CeO2 nanostructures显示文摘In this study, CeO_2 nanostructures were synthesized by a soft chemical method. A hydrothermal treatment was observed to lead to an interesting morphological transformation of the nanoparticles into homogeneous microspheres composed of nanosheets with an average thickness of 40 nm. Structural analysis revealed the formation of a single-phase cubic fluorite structure of CeO_2 for both samples. A Raman spectroscopic study confirmed the XRD results and furthermore indicated the presence of a large number of oxygen vacancies in the nanosheets. These oxygen vacancies led to room-temperature ferromagnetism(RTFM) of the CeO_2 nanosheets with enhanced magnetic characteristics. Amazingly, the nanosheets exhibited substantially greater antibacterial activity than the nanoparticles. This greater antibacterial activity was attributed to greater exposure of high-surface-energy polar surfaces and to the presence of oxygen vacancies.Fazal Abbas Javed Iqbal Tariq Jan Noor Badshah Qaisar Mansoor Muhammad Ismail 2016International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2016,23,1:6
Urinary trypsinogen-2 for diagnosing acute pancreatitis:a meta-analysis显示文摘BACKGROUND: Currently, serum amylase and lipase are the most popular laboratory markers for early diagnosis of acute pancreatitis with reasonable sensitivity and specificity. Urinary trypsinogen-2 (UT-2) has been increasingly used but its clinical value for the diagnosis of acute pancreatitis and post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) pancreatitis has not yet been systematically assessed. DATA SOURCES: A comprehensive search was carried out using PubMed (MEDLINE), Embase, and Web of Science for clinical trials, which studied the usefulness of UT-2 as a diagnostic marker for acute pancreatitis. Sensitivity, specificity and the diagnostic odds ratios (DORs) with 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated for each study and were compared with serum amylase and lipase. Summary receiver-operating curves were conducted and the area under the curve (AUC) was evaluated. RESULTS: A total of 18 studies were included. The pooled sensitivity and specificity of UT-2 for the diagnosis of acute pancreatitis were 80% and 92%, respectively (AUC=0.96, DOR=65.63, 95% CI: 31.65-139.09). The diagnostic value of UT-2 was comparable to serum amylase but was weaker than serum lipase. The pooled sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of post-ERCP pancreatitis were 86% and 94%, respectively (AUC=0.92, DOR=77.68, 95% CI: 24.99-241.48).CONCLUSIONS: UT-2 as a rapid test could be potentially used for the diagnosis of post-ERCP pancreatitis and to an extent, acute pancreatitis. Further studies are warranted to confirm these results.Tao Jin Wei Huang Kun Jiang Jun-Jie Xiong Ping Xue Muhammad A Javed Xiao-Nan Yang Qing Xia 2013Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2013,12,4:5
What operation for recurrent rectal prolapse after previous Delorme's procedure? A practical reality显示文摘AIM: To report our experience with perineal repair(Delorme's procedure) of rectal prolapse with particular focus on treatment of the recurrence.METHODS: Clinical records of 40 patients who underwent Delorme's procedure between 2003 and 2014 were reviewed to obtain the following data: Gender; duration of symptoms, length of prolapse, operation time, ASA grade, length of post-operative stay, procedure-related complications, development and treatment of recurrent prolapse. Analysis of post-operative complications, rate and time of recurrence and factors influencing the choice of the procedure for recurrent disease was conducted. Continuous variables were expressed as the median with interquartile range(IQR). Statistical analysis was carried out using the Fisher exact test.RESULTS: Median age at the time of surgery was 76 years(IQR: 71-81.5) and there were 38 females and 2 males. The median duration of symptoms was 6 mo(IQR: 3.5-12) and majority of patients presented electively whereas four patients presented in the emergency department with irreducible rectal prolapse. The median length of prolapse was 5 cm(IQR: 5-7), median operative time was 100 min(IQR: 85-120) and median post-operative stay was 4 d(IQR: 3-6). Approximately16% of the patients suffered minor complications such as- urinary retention, delayed defaecation and infected haematoma. One patient died constituting postoperative mortality of 2.5%. Median follow-up was 6.5 mo(IQR: 2.15-16). Overall recurrence rate was 28%(n = 12). Recurrence rate for patients undergoing an urgent Delorme's procedure who presented as an emergency was higher(75.0%) compared to those treated electively(20.5%), P value 0.034. Median time interval from surgery to the development of recurrence was 16 mo(IQR: 5-30). There were three patients who developed an early recurrence, within two weeks of the initial procedure. The management of the recurrent prolapse was as follows: No further intervention(n = 1), repeat Delorme's procedure(n = 3), Altemeier's procedure(n = 5) and rectopexy with faecal diversion(n = 3). One patient was lost during follow up.CONCLUSION: Delorme's procedure is a suitable treatment for rectal prolapse due to low morbidity and mortality and acceptable rate of recurrence. The management of the recurrent rectal prolapse is often restricted to the pelvic approach by the same patientrelated factors that influenced the choice of the initial operation, i.e., Delorme's procedure. Early recurrence developing within days or weeks often represents a technical failure and may require abdominal rectopexy with faecal diversion.Muhammad A Javed Faryal G Afridi Dmitri Y Artioukh 2016World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2016,8,7:4
Gastric juice for the diagnosis of H pylori infection in patients on proton pump inhibitors显示文摘AIM: To determine the efficacy of gastric juice polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the detection of H pylori infection in comparison with histology and gastric antral biopsy PCR in patients on a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). METHODS: Eighty-five consecutive patients with dyspeptic symptoms were enrolled. Gastric biopsies for histology, PCR and gastric juice were collected at endoscopy for PCR of the H pylori urease C gene (ure C). Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), accuracy, positive and negative likelihood ratio for PCR of gastric juice for the H pylori ure C gene was compared to histology and gastric antral biopsy H pylori ure C PCR in patients with and without PPI. RESULTS: Gastric juice PCR was positive in 66 (78%) patients. Histology showed H pylori associated gastritis in 57 (67%). Gastric biopsy PCR was positive in 72 (85%). In patients not taking PPI, the sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV, accuracy and positive and negative likelihood ratio for gastric juice PCR were 89%, 72%, 91%, 67%, 90%, 85%, 3.1 and 0.1 respectively. In patients on PPI these values were 86%, 100%%, 100%, 29%, 86%, 9.5 and 1.4, respectively. CONCLUSION: Gastric juice PCR for the diagnosis of H pylori infection has increased sensitivity compared to histology with PPI. The use of gastric juice PCR is recommended to confirm H pylori status in patients taking PPIs.Javed Yakoob Shahid Rasool Zaigham Abbas Wasim Jafri Shahab Abid Muhammad Islam Zubair Ahmad 2008World Journal of Gastroenterology2008,14,10:4
Analysis of the effect of passive measures on the energy consumption and zero-energy prospects of residential buildings in Pakistan显示文摘Climate change can adversely impact the thermal comfort and energy efficiency of the buildings stock. The South Asian countries are particularly vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change specially in the form of rising temperatures and increasing frequency of heat waves. The passive building design measures can be useful in mitigating and adapting to the climate change by increasing energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In this study various passive climate change adaptation measures (PCAMs) have been used individually and in form of combinations in order to analyze their impact on the energy efficacy of residential buildings in Pakistan. It has been found that the natural ventilation and front green wall are the most efficient options for reducing the overall energy consumption. By implementation of these PCAMs, cooling demand can be decreased by 27.75% while heating demand can be reduced by 35%. Secondly, the prospect of net zero-energy building and reduced CO2 emissions are also studied. It has been shown that building can achieve net-zero energy on an annual basis at every orientation and it can attain the status of nearly zero-energy building on a monthly basis. Moreover, emitted CO2 can be reduced by 31% by using the renewable energy.Muhammad Wasim Anwar Zaib Ali Abdullah Javed Emad Ud Din Muhammad Sajid 2021Building Simulation2021,14,4:3
Investigating the impact of Glyoxal retrieval from MAX-DOAS observations during haze and non-haze conditions in Beijing显示文摘This study presents the Multi Axis Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy(MAXDOAS) measurements for Glyoxal(CHOCHO) in Beijing, China(39.95°N, 116.32°E). CHOCHO is the smallest compound of di-carbonyl group. As a primary sink of CHOCHO, its photolysis with NOx(oxides of nitrogen) results in the production of tropospheric ozone. Therefore, the focus of CHOCHO DOAS measurements is increasing in trend. We did the measurements from 09 May 2017 to 09 September 2017. The study was conducted to compare different retrieval settings in order to reveal best DOAS fit settings for CHOCHO;furthermore, effect of haze and non-haze days on CHOCHO concentration was examined. The root mean square of residual and Differential Slant Column density(dSCD) error was reduced when measurements were done with lower wavelength limit around 432–438 nm and upper intervals around 455–460 nm. Thus, lower wavelength intervals around432–438 nm and upper intervals around 457–460 nm were best for the retrieval of dSCDs for CHOCHO. Meteorological conditions like haze or non-haze days did not have significant effect on DOAS fit parameters. The CHOCHO vertical column densities range from 1.33 E +14 to 9.77 E + 14 molecules/cm2 during the study period with average of 6.16 E +14 molecules/cm2. The results indicated that during haze days CHOCHO concentration was higher because of lower rate of photolysis and atmospheric oxidation potential. Our results did not show any significant weekend effect on CHOCHO atmospheric concentration.Zeeshan Javed Cheng Liu Muhammad Fahim Khokhar Chengzhi Xing Wei Tan Muhammad Ahmed Subhani Abdul Rehman Aimon Tanvir 2019Journal of Environmental Sciences2019,31,6:3

Potentially harmful metals, and health risk evaluation in groundwater of Mardan,Pakistan:Application of geostatistical approach and geographic information system显示文摘This study investigates the values of pH,total dissolved solids(TDS),elevation, oxidative reduction potential(ORP),temperature, and depth, while the concentrations of Br,and potentially harmful metals(PHMs)such as Cr,Ni,Cd,Mn,Cu,Pb,Co,Zn,and Fe in the groundwater samples. Moreover, geographic information system(GIS),XLSTAT,and IBM SPSS Statistics 20 software were used for spatial distribution modeling, principal component analysis(PCA),cluster analysis(CA),and Quantile-Quantile(Q-Q)plotting to determine groundwater pollution sources, similarity index, and normal distribution reference line for the selected parameters. The mean values of pH,TDS,elevation,ORP,temperature, depth, and Br were 7.2,322 mg/L,364 m,188 mV,29.6℃,70 m,0.20 mg/L,and PHMs like Cr,Ni,Cd,Mn,Cu,Pb,Co,Zn,and Fe were 0.38,0.26,0.08,0.27,0.36,0.22,0.04,0.43 and 0.86 mg/L,respectively.PHMs including Cr(89%),Cd(43%),Mn(23%),Pb(79%),Co(20%),and Fe(91%)exceeded the guideline values set by the world health organization(WHO).The significant R^(2)values of PCA for selected parameters were also determined(0.62,0.67,0.78,0.73,0.60,0.87,-0.50,0.69,0.70,0.74,-0.50,0.70,0.67,0.79,0.59,and-0.55,respectively).PCA revealed three geochemical processes such as geogenic, anthropogenic, and reducing conditions. The mineral phases of Cd(OH)_(2),Fe(OH)_(3),FeOOH,Mn_(3)O_(4),Fe_(2)O_(3),MnOOH,Pb(OH)_(2),Mn(OH)_(2),MnO_(2),and Zn(OH)_(2)(-3.7,3.75,9.7,-5.8,8.9,-3.6,2.2,-4.6,-7.7,-0.9,and 0.003,respectively)showed super-saturation and under-saturation conditions.Health risk assessment(HRA)values for PHMs were also calculated and the values of hazard quotient(HQ),and hazard indices(HI)for the entire study area were increased in the following order:Cd>Ni>Cu>Pb>Mn>Zn>Cr.Relatively higher HQ and HI values of Ni,Cd,Pb,and Cu were greater than one showing unsuitability of groundwater for domestic, agriculture, and drinking purposes. The long-term ingestion of groundwater could also cause severe health concerns such as kidney, brain dysfunction, liver, stomach problems, and even cancer.Abdur Rashid Muhammad Ayub Asif Javed Sardar Khan Xubo Gao Chengcheng Li Zahid Ullah Tariq Sardar Juma Muhammad Shahla Nazneen 2021Geoscience Frontiers2021,12,3:2
Development of bis-thiobarbiturates as successful urease inhibitors and their molecular modeling studies显示文摘Bis-thiobarbiturate derivatives 1–15 have been synthesized, characterized by1 HNMR and EI-MS and screened for urease inhibition. All compounds showed various degree of urease inhibitory activity with IC_(50) values ranging 7.45 0.12 74.24 0.81 mmol/L while the standard thiourea behaved normally(IC_(50) = 21.10 0.12). Compounds 1(IC_(50) = 7.45 0.12 μmol/L), 9(IC_(50) = 18.17 1.03 μmol/L) and 13(IC_(50) = 8.61 0.45 μmol/L) showed excellent urease inhibitory activity in the series. Molecular modeling studies were performed to understand the binding site with the bimetallic nickel center of the enzyme.Structure-activity relationship has also been established for these compounds. This study identified bisthiobarbiturate as a novel class of urease inhibitors.Fazal Rahim Muhammad Ali Shifa Ullah Umer Rashid Hayat Ullah Muhammad Taha Muhammad Tariq Javed Wajid Rehman Aftab Ahmad Khan Obaid Ur Rahman Abid Muhammad Bilal 2016Chinese Chemical Letters2016,27,5:2
Spatial Trend of Foot and Mouth Disease Virus (FMDV) Serotypes in Cattle and Buffaloes, Pakistan显示文摘The present study describes the frequency of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) virus serotypes (O, A and Asia-1) in major regions (all provinces) of Pakistan using Indirect Sandwich ELISA. Also, spatial distribution of various FMD serotypes and their comparison is discussed. A total of 590 samples (Epithelial tissue) have been analyzed during a period of five years (2005-2009). Out of 590 samples, 180 were found positive, giving an overall confirmation of FMDV about 33.2 %. Of the prevalent serotypes, FMDV 'O' serotype caused most outbreaks (20.7 %), followed by serotype A (6.6 %) and serotype Asia-1 (4.6 %) while there was no positive case of type 'C'. The study clearly showed that the disease was more frequent in the agro-climatic zones than in hilly areas. Based on the data of 590 samples (>50 outbreaks), the overall prevalence of FMDV in cattle and buffaloes in Pakistan was 33.2 %, while in cattle alone, it was 37.1 %, higher than in buffalo (28.7 %). There were eight cases of mixed serotypes infection, indicating the presence of endemic state of disease. Another significant feature was the change over time. In phase-I (2005-2007), there was an overall prevalence of 29.4 %, while the occurrence of the serotype O, A and Asia-1 was 20.4 %, 2.9 % and 4.7 %, respectively. During phase-II (2008-2009), the overall prevalence was 59.21 %, while those of serotype O, A and Asia-1 were 22.4 %, 31.6 % and 4.0 %, respectively. This clearly indicated a shift from serotype O to A, which may help to explain the occurrence of more severe outbreaks, despite vaccination.Muhammad Abubakar Muhammad Javed Arshed Qurban Ali Manzoor Hussain 2012Virologica Sinica2012,27,5:2
