| 1 | Imaging and interventions in Budd-Chiari syndrome显示文摘Budd-Chiari syndrome(BCS) consists of a group of disorders with obstruction of hepatic venous outflow leading to increased hepatic sinusoidal pressure and portal hypertension.Clinically,two forms of disease(acute and chronic) are recognized.Mostly the patients present with ascites,hepatomegaly,and portal hypertension.In acute disease the liver is enlarged with thrombosed hepatic veins(HV) and ascites,whereas in the chronic form of the disease there may be membranous occlusion of HV and/or the inferior vena cava(IVC),or there may be short or long segment fibrotic constriction of HV or the suprahepatic IVC.Due to advances in radiological interventional techniques and hardware,there have been changes in the management protocol of BCS with surgery being offered to patients not suitable for radiological interventions or having acute liver failure requiring liver transplantation.The present article gives an insight into various imaging findings and interventional techniques employed in the management of BCS. | Amar Mukund Shivanand Gamanagatti | 2011 | World Journal of Radiology2011,3,7: | 11 |

| 3 | Alcohol dehydrogenase: A potential new marker for diagnosis of intestinal ischemia using rat as a model显示文摘AIM: Intestinal ischemia (Ii) is an abdominal emergency due to blockade of the superior mesenteric artery resulting in 60-100% mortality if diagnosed late. Changes in several biochemical parameters such as D (-)-lactate, Creatinine kinase isoenzymes and lactate dehydrogenase suggested for early diagnosis, lack specificity and sensitivity. Therefore a biochemical parameter with greater sensitivity needs to be identified.METHODS: Wistar male rats were randomly assigned into two groups; control sham operated (n = 24) and ischemic test (n = 24) group. Superior mesenteric arterial occlusion was performed in the ischemic test group for 1 h. Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) was estimated in blood from portal vein, right ventricle of heart, dorsal aorta (DA) and inferior vena cava (IVC). The Serum glutamic acid pyruvate transaminase (SGPT) was also estimated in blood from portal vein and right ventricle of heart.RESULTS: A significant increase (P<0.001) in the levels of ADH in both portal blood as well as heart blood of the test group (232.72±99.45 EU and 250.85±95.14 EU, respectively)as compared to the control group (46.39±21.69 EU and 65.38±30.55 EU, respectively) were observed. Similarly,increased levels of ADH were observed in blood samples withdrawn from DA and IVC in test animals (319.52±80.14EU and 363.90±120.68 EU, respectively) as compared to the control group (67.68±63.22 EU and 72.50±58.45 EU,respectively). However, in test animals there was significant increase in SGPT in portal blood (P = 0.054) without much increase in heart blood.CONCLUSION: Significant increase in the levels of ADH in portal and heart blood within 1 h of SMA occlusion without increase in SGPT in heart blood, suggests that the origin of ADH is from ischemic intestine and not from liver. Similarly, raised ADH levels were found in DA and IVC as well. IVC blood does represent peripheral blood sample. | 4 | Imaging and radiological interventions in extra-hepatic portal vein obstruction显示文摘Extrahepatic portal vein obstruction(EHPVO) is a primary vascular condition characterized by chronic long standing blockage and cavernous transformation of portal vein with or without additional involvement of intrahepatic branches, splenic or superior mesenteric vein. Patients generally present in childhood with multiple episodes of variceal bleed and EHPVO is the predominant cause of paediatric portal hypertension(PHT) in developing countries. It is a pre-hepatic type of PHT in which liver functions and morphology are preserved till late. Characteristic imaging findings include multiple parabiliary venous collaterals which form to bypass the obstructed portal vein with resultant changes in biliary tree termed portal biliopathy or portal cavernoma cholangiopathy. Ultrasound with Doppler, computed tomography, magnetic resonance cholangiography and magnetic resonance portovenography are non-invasive techniques which can provide a comprehensive analysis of degree and extent of EHPVO, collaterals and bile duct abnormalities. These can also be used to assess in surgical planning as well screening for shunt patency in post-operative patients. The multitude of changes and complications seen in EHPVO can be addressed by various radiological interventional procedures. | 5 | CT patterns of nodal disease in pediatric chest tuberculosis显示文摘AIM:To highlight various patterns of nodal involvement and post treatment changes in pediatric chest tuberculosis based on contrast enhanced computed tomography(CECT) scans of chest.METHODS:This was a retrospective study consisting of 91 patients aged less than 17 years,who attended Paediatrics OPD of All India Institute of Medical Sciences with clinically diagnosed tuberculosis or with chest radiographs suggestive of chest tuberculosis.These patients had an initial chest radiograph as well as CECT of the chest and follow up imaging after 6 mo,and in some cases 9 mo,of completion of anti-tubercular treatment(ATT).CECT of these patients was reviewed for the location and extent of nodal involvement along with determination of site,size,enhancement pattern and calcification.RESULTS:Enlargement of mediastinal or hilar lymph nodes was found in 88/91 patients(96.7%),with the most common locations being paratracheal(84.1%),and subcarinal(76.1%).The most common pattern of enhancement was found to be inhomogenous.The nodes were conglomerate in 56.8% and discrete in 43.2%.In addition,perinodal fat was obscured in 84.1% of patients.In the post-treatment scan,there was 87.4% reduction in the size of the nodes.All nodes post-treatment were discrete and homogenous with perinodal fat present.Calcification was found both pre-and post-treatment,but there was an increase in incidence after treatment(41.7%).There was hence a reduction in size,change in enhancement pattern,and appearance of perinodal fat with treatment.CONCLUSION:Tubercular nodes have varied appearance and enhancement pattern.Conglomeration and obscuration of perinodal fat suggest activity.In residual nodes decision to continue ATT requires clinical correlation. | Amar Mukund Rashmi Khurana Ashu S Bhalla Arun K Gupta Sushil K Kabra | 2011 | World Journal of Radiology2011,3,1: | 5 |

METHODS: Retrospective analysis of contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) examinations over 24 mo for diagnosis, surveillance, characterization and follow up of 50 patients in the context of HCC was performed. The source and indication of referrals, change in referral rate, accuracy and usefulness of CEUS in a tertiary liver center equipped with a 64 slice dual energy computer tomography (CT) and 3 tesla magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were studied. Sonovue (BR1, Bracco, Italy, a second generation contrast agent) was used for contrast US studies. Contrast enhanced CT/MRI or both were performed in all patients. The findings were taken as a baseline reference and correlation was done with respect to contrast US. Contrast enhanced MRI was performed using hepatocyte specific gadobenate dimeglumine (Gd-BOPTA). Iomeron (400 mg; w/v) was used for dynamic CT examinations. RESULTS: About 20 (40%) of the examinations were referred from clinicians for characterization of a mass from previous imaging. About 15 (30%) were performed for surveillance in chronic liver disease; 5 (10%) examinations were performed for monitoring lesions after radiofrequency ablation (RFA); 3 (6%) were post trans-arterial chemoembolization (TACE) assessments and 3 (6%) were patients with h/o iodinated contrast allergy. About 2(4%) were performed on hemodynamically unstable patients in the intensive care with raised alpha fetoprotein and 2(4%) patients were claustrophobic. The number of patients referred from clinicians steadily increased from 12 in the first 12 mo of the study to 38 in the last 12 mo. CEUS was able to diagnose 88% of positive cases of HCC as per reference standards. In the surveillance group, specificity was 53.3% vs 100% by CT/MRI. Post RFA and TACE specificity of lesion characterization by CEUS was 100% in single/large mass assessment, similar to CT/MRI. For non HCC lesions such as regenerative and dysplastic nodules, the specificity was 50% vs 90% by CT/MRI. The positive role of CEUS in imaging spectrum of HCC included a provisional urgent diagnosis of an incidentally detected mass. It further led to a decrease in time for further management. A confident diagnosis on CEUS was possible in cases of characterization of an indeterminate mass, in situations where the patient was unfit for CT/MRI, was allergic to iodinated contrast or had claustrophobia, etc.CEUS was also cost effective, radiation free and an easy modality for monitoring post RFA or TACE lesions. | 8 | Soil and water conservation measures improve soil carbon sequestration and soil quality under cashews显示文摘Land degradation is becoming a serious problem in the west coast region of India where one of the world's eight biodiversity hotspots,the‘Western Ghats’,is present.Poor land management practices and high rainfall have led to increasing problems associated with land degradation.A long-term(13-year)experiment was done to evaluate the impact of soil and water conservation measures on soil carbon sequestration and soil quality at three different depths under cashew nut cultivation on a 19%slope.Five soil and water conservation measures-continuous contour trenches,staggered contour trenches,halfmoon terraces,semi-elliptical trenches,and graded trenches all with vegetative barriers of Stylosanthes scabra and Vetiveria zizanoides and control were evaluated for their influence on soil properties,carbon sequestration,and soil quality under cashews.The soil and water conservation measures improved significantly the soil organic carbon,soil organic carbon stock,carbon sequestration rate and microbial activity compared to the control condition(without any measures).Among the measures tested,continuous contour trenches with vegetative barriers outperformed the others with respect to soil organic carbon stock,sequestration rate,and microbial activity.The lower metabolic quotient with the measures compared to the control indicated alleviation of environmental stress on microbes.Using principal component analysis and a correlation matrix,a minimum dataset was identified as the soil available nitrogen,bulk density,basal soil respiration,soil pH,acid phosphatase activity,and soil available boron and these were the most important soil properties controlling the soil quality.Four soil quality indices using two summation methods(additive and weighted)and two scoring methods(linear and non-linear)were developed using the minimum dataset.A linear weighted soil quality index was able to statistically differentiate the effect of soil and water conservation measures from that of the control.The highest value of the soil quality index of 0.98 was achieved with continuous contour trenches with a vegetative barrier.The results of the study indicate that soil and water conservation measures for cashews are a potential strategy to improve the soil carbon sequestration and soil quality along with improving crop productivity and reducing the erosion losses. | Gopal Ramdas Mahajan Bappa Das Sandrasekaran Manivannan Begur Lakshminarasimha Manjunath Ram Ratan Verma Sujeet Desai Rahul Mukund Kulkarni Ashish Marotrao Latare Reshma Sale Dayesh Murgaonkar Kiran Puna Patel Shaiesh Morajkar Ashwini Desai Natasha Barnes Heena Mulla | 2021 | International Journal of Sediment Research2021,36,2: | 4 |
| 9 | Science behind cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity in humans:A clinical study显示文摘Objective:To investigate the relationship between serum electrolyte changes and cisplatin induced nephrotoxicity.Methods:We collected data from 18 patients undergoing cisplatin chemotherapy including serum electrolytes,creatinine,blood urea nitrogen(BUN) and urine potassium,sodium and pH levels before and after the cisplatin chemotherapy.All the patients had cancer and were treated with 40-50 mg/day cisplatin.Renal injury was assessed by measuring serum electrolytes,creatinine,BUN levels and urine potassium,sodium and pH levels. Results:The five cycles of cisplatin based chemotherapy resulted in hypomagnesia(P=0.029), hypocalcaemia(P=0.001~*),hypophosphatemia(P=0.003*),hypokalemia(P=0.001~*)and increased serum creatinine(P=0.001~*)and BUN(P=0.292~*)levels.In urine analysis,decrease in potassium(P=0.024~*)was found,except potassium there was no significant changes in sodium and urine pH. | 11 | 印度草药方NR/CAL/06的甲醇提取物对卵巢切除大鼠的抗骨质疏松作用(英文)显示文摘目的:证实印度草药方NR/CAL/06的甲醇提取物对卵巢切除大鼠的抗骨质疏松作用。方法:雌性Sprague-Drawley大鼠在无菌状态下行双侧卵巢切除术后被分为5组(n=10)。检测NR/CAL/06的甲醇提取物(200和400mg/kg口服)的抗骨质疏松作用并以雷洛昔芬(5.4mg/kg口服)作为标准对照药,治疗时间为90d。实验前后测量各组大鼠的体质量、卵巢质量、骨质量、骨矿物质含量、骨强度,血清及尿液中的钙、磷含量及血清碱性磷酸酶含量。电镜下观察大鼠股骨外径、长度及厚度。结果:双侧卵巢切除术后,大鼠骨质量、骨矿物质含量及骨强度均有下降;电镜观察到卵巢切除大鼠股骨骨质疏松、多孔、破碎,且骨长度及厚度均有所下降。与假手术组相比,卵巢切除大鼠的血清钙、磷及碱性磷酸酶含量均有所升高,体质量及脂肪含量升高,子宫质量降低。NR/CAL/06的甲醇提取物(200和400mg/kg口服)治疗90d能够剂量依赖性地改变大鼠因卵巢切除所引起的上述各项指标变化,并将骨质量、骨矿物质含量、骨强度,血清钙、磷及碱性磷酸酶含量,体质量及脂肪含量恢复至正常水平。此外,经NR/CAL/06的甲醇提取物(200和400mg/kg口服)治疗的大鼠与卵巢切除模型组大鼠相比,电镜下股骨骨质孔形成减少,骨密度增加。结论:本实验的结果证实了NR/CAL/06的甲醇提取物具有很好的抗骨质疏松作用,可用于骨质疏松症的治疗。 | Praveen Srikanta Shivaprasad H.Nagarajappa Gollapalle L.Viswanatha. | 12 | Graphene-wrapped Ag3PO4/LaCO3OH heterostructures for water purification under visible light显示文摘We demonstrated a unique synthesis approach of graphene(GR)-wrapped Ag_3PO_4/LaCO_3OH(APO/LCO)heterostructures by an in-situ wet chemical method. FESEM analysis reveals the formation of rhombic dodecahedrons of APO decorated with LCO and later wrapped with GR flakes. Optical studies shows two absorption edges corresponding to the band gap energies of APO(2.41 eV) and LCO(4.1 eV). Considering the absorption edge of the heterostructures in the visible region, the photocatalytic activities of photocatalysts containing different APO/LCO mass ratios were evaluated by the degradation of MB. GR-decorated composite with 20% LCO(APO/LCO20/GR) exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity for MB degradation, with a rate constant, k of 0.541 min^(-1). The photocatalytic activity of APO/LCO20/GR more greatly enhanced than those of the individual constituents(APO, LCO, APO/LCO20). The enhanced photocatalytic activity of the heterostructure can be attributed to the co-catalytic effect of LCO as well as intriguing physicochemical properties of GR. To understand the enhanced photocatalytic activity of the heterostructures the photocatalytic reaction mechanism is proposed in detail. Small choledochocele is rare congenital malformation associated with non-specific symptoms and a delay in diagnosis. The coexistence of choledochocele and pancreas divisum is extremely rare with only two case reports published in literature. In both cases MRCP failed to diagnose any biliary or pancreatic abnormality. This case suggests that the patients with recurrent abdominal pain and pancreas divisum should not be presumed to be suffering from pancreatitis. Careful evaluated for additional anomalies in the biliary tree should be sought for refractory symptoms. | 15 | GDF15 promotes prostate cancer bone metastasis and colonization through osteoblastic CCL2 and RANKL activation显示文摘Bone metastases occur in patients with advanced-stage prostate cancer(PCa). The cell-cell interaction between PCa and the bone microenvironment forms a vicious cycle that modulates the bone microenvironment, increases bone deformities, and drives tumor growth in the bone. However, the molecular mechanisms of PCa-mediated modulation of the bone microenvironment are complex and remain poorly defined. Here, we evaluated growth differentiation factor-15(GDF15) function using in vivo preclinical PCa-bone metastasis mouse models and an in vitro bone cell coculture system. Our results suggest that PCa-secreted GDF15 promotes bone metastases and induces bone microarchitectural alterations in a preclinical xenograft model. Mechanistic studies revealed that GDF15 increases osteoblast function and facilitates the growth of PCa in bone by activating osteoclastogenesis through osteoblastic production of CCL2 and RANKL and recruitment of osteomacs. | 16 | Genetic Diversity Analysis of Rice Germplasm in Tripura State of Northeast India Using Drought and Blast Linked Markers显示文摘We genotyped 74 rice germplasms including Tripura's local landraces, improved varieties, cultivars and breeding lines and other rice varieties using molecular markers for genetic diversity, drought QTLs, and blast resistance genes. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 2 to 5 with an average of 2.9. The polymorphic information content value per locus ranged from 0.059(RM537) to 0.755(RM252) with an average of 0.475. Cluster analysis based on 30 simple sequence repeat markers revealed 5 clusters and also indicated the presence of variability within the rice accessions. The drought QTL q DTY2.1 was found in 56.0% of germplasms and q DTY1.1 was detected in only 6.8% of the germplasms. Out of seven rice blast resistance genes screened, only two rice varieties, RCPL-1-82 and Buh Vubuk(Lubuk), were positive for four blast resistance genes while only Releng possessed two blast resistance genes. Among 74 rice germplasms, only three accessions, Releng, RCPL1-82 and Buh Vubuk(Lubuk), possessed both drought-related QTLs and blast resistance genes. Overall, the 74 indigenous rice genotypes showed low level of genetic diversity, which is in contrast to high level of genetic diversity among rice varieties in northeast India, where highlights the good farming practice, conservation of germplasms and the limitation of molecular markers employed in this study.
