1Biological process of soil improvement in civil engineering:A review显示文摘The concept of using biological process in soil improvement which is known as bio-mediated soil improvement technique has shown greater potential in geotechnical engineering applications in terms of performance and environmental sustainability.This paper presents a review on the soil microorganisms responsible for this process,and factors that affect their metabolic activities and geometric compatibility with the soil particle sizes.Two mechanisms of biomineralization,i.e.biologically controlled and biologically induced mineralization,were also discussed.Environmental and other factors that may be encountered in situ during microbially induced calcite precipitation(MICP) and their influences on the process were identified and presented.Improvements in the engineering properties of soil such as strength/stiffness and permeability as evaluated in some studies were explored.Potential applications of the process in geotechnical engineering and the challenges of field application of the process were identified.Murtala Umar Khairul Anuar Kassim Kenny Tiong Ping Chiet 2016Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2016,8,5:9

5带趋势项ESTAR模型单位根检验的渐进分布显示文摘对2种不同形式的带趋势项ESTAR(exponential smooth transition autoregression,指数平滑转换自回归)模型的单位根检验进行研究,基于辅助方程,给出了带趋势项ESTAR模型2种不同形式下KSS(Kapetanios-Shin-Snell)检验统计量的极限分布。通过对比发现,2种带趋势项形式下检验统计量的极限分布并不一致。这一结果表明采用带趋势项ESTAR模型建模前需对这2种形式加以区分,对模型进行单位根检验时,由于极限分布并不一致,不能都采用OLS(ordinary least squares,常规最小二乘法)去趋势的临界值给出检验结果,否则会导致结果不可靠。这为进一步对带确定性趋势项STAR(smooth transition autoregression,平滑转换自回归)模型单位根检验的研究提供了理论参考,也为后续提高带趋势项STAR单位根检验功效提供了新思路。胡俊娟 Murtala Adam Muhammad 2021浙江科技学院学报2021,33,6:0
6Effects of aqueous leaf extract of Tridax procumbens on contractile activity of corpus cavernosum in N-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester-induced hypertensive male rats显示文摘Objective: This study investigated the effects of aqueous leaf extract of Tridax procumbens(ALETP) on contractile activity of corpus cavernosum in N-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester(L-NAME)-induced hypertensive male rats.Methods: Twenty normal, adult male rats(130–150 g) were divided into four groups of five rats each.Group I(control) was given normal saline(0.6 m L/kg) and group II was given L-NAME(40 mg/kg) for 6 weeks. Groups III and IV also received L-NAME(40 mg/kg) for 6 weeks but were further co-treated with 100 and 200 mg/kg of ALETP, respectively, from week 4 to week 6. All treatments were given orally. Strips of corpus cavernosum from each of the four groups were exposed to increasing concentrations of acetylcholine(ACh) and sodium nitroprusside(SNP)(10^(-9)–10^(-5) mol/L) after contraction with phenylephrine(10^(-7) mol/L) to test for a dose–response effect. Response to potassium and calcium was also measured after cumulatively adding potassium and calcium(10–50 mmol/L) to potassium-and calcium-free organ chamber. Isometric contractions were recorded through an Ugo Basile data capsule acquisition system.Results: Mean arterial blood pressure was significantly reduced in the ALETP co-treated group compared to the control and L-NAME-only groups(P < 0.05). Cavernosa strips from ALETP co-treated rats exhibited significant inhibition of contraction in response to phenylephrine, potassium chloride, and calcium chloride(P < 0.05). Relaxation in response to Ach and SNP was also significantly impaired in cavernosa strips from the L-NAME-only treated group(P < 0.05), while ALETP co-treated groups showed enhanced percentage relaxation.Conclusion: ALETP treatment of L-NAME-induced hypertensive rats promotes a relaxant effect on isolated cavernosa strips. 7Evaluation of the Antidiabetic Activity and Toxicological Properties of Hippocratea Velutina (Afzel.)显示文摘Background:Hippocratea velutina(HV)is a novel plant folklorically used for lowering blood glucose,hence a potential source of new antidiabetic medication.Objective:The study evaluated the anti-diabetic potentials of the methanol extract of Hippocratea velutina leaf and its toxicity profile in mice and rats.Methods:Acute and subacute toxicity tests of the plant extract were carried out by using a modified OECD guideline.Its antidiabetic activity in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats at 50,150,and 300 mg/kg for 28 days was assayed,while glibenclamide(5 mg/kg)and distilled water were the positive and negative controls,respectively.Histopathological examination of vital organs was also carried out.Results:Preliminary phytochemical screening of the leaf extract showed the presence of tannins,flavonoids,saponins,alkaloids,terpenoids,deoxy-sugars,and anthraquinones in HV.The extract had LD 50 greater than 2000 mg/kg in mice.It had no toxic effects on the haematological and biochemical components from blood samples collected but caused significant blood glucose level reduction in normal rats at 150 and 300 mg/kg.In streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats,the extract elicited a non-dose-dependent antidiabetic effect on day seven at all the tested doses,significantly higher than glibenclamide(10 mg/kg).However,on days 14,21,and 28,the extract activity at all the tested doses and glibenclamide were comparable.The extract did not affect the liver,brain,kidney,and pancreas histology at 200 mg/kg but caused slight and severe effects on these organs at 400 and 800 mg/kg,respectively.Conclusion:The study concluded that Hippocratea velutina possessed antihyperglycaemic activity and was non-toxic at low doses but could have deleterious effects to the liver and kidney at high concentrations.Farouk A.Oladoja Emmanuel SIrokosu Marcus D.Ayoola Oyinloye O.Elijah Murtala A.Akanji Ogunleye T.Beatrice Odewo A.Samuel 2023Clinical Complementary Medicine and Pharmacology2023,3,2:0

10Assessing the Effectiveness of Adhoc-Network and Electronic Government in Abuja, Nigeria显示文摘E-Government is the use of information and communication Technologies(ICT)such as internet,smart phones,telecommunication,mobile company among others to interact between government and the citizens in running the affairs of the country such as decision making etc.The impact and potential of ICTs have not been fully exploited in the Nigerian context,leaving government in a weak position to formulate policy comprehensively and implement plans effectively.In addition to the implementation of e-government in some part of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT)of Nigeria Abuja,but its effectiveness is not impressive.The citizens connection to the government is limited it can be improved more easily using electronic means of communication,A reduction in corruption cases as accountability and transparency can also be increased,Equal opportunity will be given to all to access information irrespective of the person’s physical location or disability and the elimination of the bureaucracy experienced in government offices.This research work is aimed at assessing the effectiveness of e-government in federal capital territory of Nigeria Abuja using Seoul Metropolitan Government as a yard stick for measuring the effectiveness.Questionnaire was used as a primary method of data collection,internet and library as secondary data.The data obtained from the questionnaire has been analyzed using frequency table and percentage.The findings of this work shows that 41.91%of the respondents agree e-government initiatives have decreased civil servants corruption in Abuja,46.81%of the respondents agree that E-government services has increased citizens trust in Abuja,58.11%of the respondents believe that E-government initiative have increased the accessibility to the government in Abuja however 37.11%agree that Lack of Information Technology(IT)infrastructure is the major problem affecting E-government in Abuja.Ibrahim Goni Abdulrahman Saidu Umar Maigari T. 11Reassessing Groundwater Potentials and Subsurface water Hydrochemistry in a Tropical Anambra Basin, Southeastern Nigeria显示文摘This review presented a detailed re-assessment of the hydrogeology and hydrochemistry of the Tropical Anambra Basin.It identified and discussed the major geological formations and their groundwater potentials.The geological examination showed that the Ajali Formation is confined in places forming an artesian condition;the potentials of this aquifer decline in the western basin due to a decrease in thickness.The sandstone associates of the Nsukka Formation are aquiferous and have produced high-pressure artesian boreholes along the Oji River.The Imo Shale is characterized by permeability stability all over much of the intermediate unit.The Bende-Ameki aquifer has a lesser amount of groundwater when equated to other formations;the geologic characteristics do not produce favorable hydrogeological conditions for groundwater occurrence.The stratigraphical and structural framework suggested the presence of an efficient throughflow in the basin.Based on physical and chemical parameters of water quality,the basin holds water of acceptable quality.While there are considerable investigations on the hydrogeology and hydrochemistry,studies are short of analysis of the hydrogeochemical evolution of groundwater,water quality index,heavy metals pollution index as well as total hazard quotient.Suitability of groundwater based on agricultural water quality indices(e.g.SAR)is also salient.Therefore,future studies should address these owing to increasing dependence on groundwater.Saadu Umar Wali Ibrahim Mustapha Dankani Sheikh Danjuma Abubakar Murtala Abubakar Gada Kabiru Jega Umar Abdulqadir Abubakar Usman Ibrahim Mohammad Shera 2020Journal of Geological Research2020,2,3:0
12Re-examination of Hydrochemistry and Groundwater Potentials of Cross River and Imo-Kwa-Ibo Intersecting Tropical Basins of South-South Nigeria显示文摘This review attempted a detailed description of geological and hydrogeological configurations of Cross River and Imo-Akwa Ibo basins.It presented a synthesis of hydrochemistry and a description of the hydrogeological configurations of the two basins.Hydrogeologically,most areas under Cross River and Imo-Kwa-Ibo are poor in terms of groundwater potentials.Based on the hydrochemistry,the basins hold water of excellent quality.Groundwater sources fall in soft to moderately hard classes.The entire sources groundwater has a TDS concentration of less than 500 mg/l.Groundwater classification based on electrical conductivity(EC)showed EC levels were less than 500μS/cm.Most of the examined cations and anions are within WHO reference guidelines for drinking water quality.However,no broad analysis of water quality based on water quality indices.Also,studies modeling pollution or the impact of land use changes on groundwater quality are wanting.Thus,further analysis of the hydrochemistry of groundwater aquifers is recommended.Saadu Umar Wali Ibrahim Mustapha Dankani Sheikh Danjuma Abubakar Murtala Abubakar Gada Kabiru Jega Umar Abdulqadir Abubakar Usman Ibrahim Mohammad Shera 2020Journal of Geological Research2020,2,3:0
13Examination of Surface Water Along River-Rima Floodplain in Wamakko, Sokoto State, Nigeria显示文摘This study examined the hydrochemistry of surface water along the River-Rima floodplain area.Five sampling locations were purposively selected,and,in each point,three samples were taken from surface water(river).The sampling was repeated after 20 days.Thus,a total of 30 samples were collected.Water samples obtained were subjected to laboratory tests.Results revealed that BOD,TDS,Mg2+,and Fe3+are above the World Health Organization(WHO)and Standard Organization of Nigeria(SON)reference guidelines for drinking water quality.Isolates detected from the coliform bacteriological analysis include Enterobacter aerogene,Escherichia coli,and Citrobacter freundii with most of the samples showing coliform bacteria growth above the SON standard for drinking water.Hence,the water in the River-Rima floodplain of the Wamakko area is of low quality and unsafe for drinking.Results of principal component analysis(PCA)revealed external influences such as pollutant wash off and rock weathering as controls on hydrochemistry of surface water.There is some indication of anthropogenic inputs(Cl-,NO3-,and PO42-)based on hierarchical cluster analysis.Elements including Cl-,NO3-,and PO42-are increasingly added into surface water from human activities,mainly agriculture,and municipal sewage.Abdulqadir Abubakar Usman Murtala Abubakar Gada Aminu Muhammad Bayawa Ibrahim Mustapha Dankani Saadu Umar Wali 2020Journal of Geological Research2020,2,3:0
