Geometric construction of energy-minimizing Bézier curves显示文摘Modeling energy-minimizing curves have many applications and are a basic problem of Geometric Modeling. In this paper,we propose the method for geometric design of energy-minimizing B′ezier curves.Firstly, the necessary and sufficient condition on the control points for B′ezier curves to have minimal internal energy is derived.Based on this condition,we propose the geometric constructions of three kinds of B′ezier curves with minimal internal energy including stretch energy, strain energy and jerk energy.Given some control points, the other control points can be determined as the linear combination of the given control points. We compare the three kinds of energy-minimizing B′ezier curves via curvature combs and curvature plots, and present the collinear properties of quartic energy-minimizing B′ezier curves. We also compare the proposed method with previous methods on efficiency and accuracy. Finally, several applications of the curve generation technique, such as curve interpolation with geometric constraints and modeling of circle-like curves are discussed.XU Gang 1,4,5,WANG GuoZhao 2 & CHEN WenYu 2,3 1 Institute of Graphics and Image,Hangzhou Dianzi University,Hangzhou 310018,China 2 Department of Mathematics,Zhejiang University,Hangzhou 310027,China 3 School of Computer Engineering,Nanyang Technological University,639798,Singapore 4 Galaad,INRIA Sophia-Antipolis,2004 Route des Lucioles,06902,France 5 State Key Lab of CAD & CG,Zhejiang University,Hangzhou 310027,China 2011Science China(Information Sciences)2011,54,7:15
Power system low frequency oscillation monitoring and analysis based on multi-signal online identification显示文摘The advance in the wide-area measurement system (WAMS) is driving the power system to the trend of wide-area monitoring and control. The Prony method is usually used for low frequency oscillation online identification. However, the identified amplitude and phase information is not sufficiently used.In this paper, the amplitude is adopted to detect the occurrence of the oscillation and to obtain the mode observability of the sites. The phase is adopted to identify the oscillation generator grouping and to obtain the mode shapes. The time varying characteristics of low frequency oscillations are studied. The behaviors and the characters of low frequency oscillations are displayed by dynamic visual techniques.Demonstrations on the '11.9' low frequency oscillation of the Guizhou Power Grid substantiate the feasibility and the validation of the proposed methods.YUAN Ye1,2,SUN YuanZhang2,CHENG Lin2,CHEN Gang2 & WANG Peng3 1 State Nuclear Electric Power Planning Design and Research Institute,Beijing 100032,China 2 State Key Laboratory of Power Systems,Deptment of Electrical Engineering,Tsinghua University,Beijing 100084,China 3 EEE School,Nanyang Technological University,Singapore 2010Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,9:13
Medaka fish stem cells and their applications显示文摘Stem cells are present in developing embryos and adult tissues of multicellular organisms. Owing to their unique features, stem cells provide excellent opportunities for experimental analyses of basic developmental processes such as pluripotency control and cell fate decision and for regenerative medicine by stem cell-based therapy. Stem cell cultures have been best studied in 3 vertebrate organisms. These are the mouse, human and a small laboratory fish called medaka. Specifically, medaka has given rise to the first embryonic stem (ES) cells besides the mouse, the first adult testis-derived male stem cells spermatogonia capable of test-tube sperm production, and most recently, even haploid ES cells capable of producing Holly, a semi-cloned fertile female medaka from a mosaic oocyte created by microinjecting a haploid ES cell nucleus directly into a normal oocyte. These breakthroughs make medaka a favoring vertebrate model for stem cell research, the topic of this review.YI MeiSheng1, HONG Ni1, LI ZhenDong1, YAN Yan1,2, WANG DanKe1, ZHAO HaoBin1,3 & HONG YunHan1,4* 1Department of Biological Sciences, National University of Singapore, 10 Kent Ridge Crescent, Singapore 119260, Singapore 2Division of Bioengineering, School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore 637457, Singapore 3Hubei Key Laboratory of Genetic Regulation and Integrative Biology, School of Life Sciences, Huazhong Normal University, Wuhan 430079, China 4State Key Laboratory of Freshwater Ecology and Biotechnology, Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wuhan 430072, China 2010Science China(Life Sciences)2010,53,4:10
Image denoising and deblurring: non-convex regularization, inverse diffusion and shock filter显示文摘A large number of applications in image processing and computer vision depend on image quality. In this paper, main concerns are image denoising and deblurring simultaneously in a restoration task by three types of methodologies: non-convex regularization, inverse diffusion and shock filter. We discuss their relations in the context of image deblurring: the inverse diffusion implied by the non-convex regularization, and the superior ability of deblurring edge of the shock filter to that of the inverse diffusion, both in 1D and 2D cases. Finally, we propose a region-based adaptive anisotropic diffusion with shock filter method, which shows advantages of deblurring edges, denoising and smoothing contours in experiments, compared with some related methods. Therein an idea of 'divide and rule' is introduced.FU ShuJun 1,2,3 , ZHANG CaiMing 2 & TAI XueCheng 3,4 1 School of Mathematics, Shandong University, Jinan 250100, China 2 School of Computer Science and Technology, Shandong University, Jinan 250101, China 3 School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore 639798, Singapore 4 Department of Mathematics, University of Bergen, Bergen 5008, Norway 2011Science China(Information Sciences)2011,54,6:8
An extended displacement discontinuity method for analysis of stress wave propagation in viscoelastic rock mass显示文摘An extended displacement discontinuity method (EDDM) is proposed to analyze the stress wave propagation in jointed viscoelastic rock mass (VRM).The discontinuities in a rock mass are divided into two groups. The primary group with an average geometrical size larger than or in the same order of magnitude of wavelength of a concerned stress wave is defined as 'macro-joints',while the secondary group with a high density and relatively small geometrical size compared to the wavelength is known as 'micro-defects'.The rock mass with micro-defects is modeled as an equivalent viscoelastic medium while the macro-joints in the rock mass are modeled explicitly as physical discontinuities.Viscoelastic properties of a micro-defected sedimentary rock are obtained by longitudinally impacting a cored long sedimentary rod with a pendulum.Wave propagation coefficient and dynamic viscoelastic modulus are measured. The EDDM is then successfully employed to analyze the wave propagation across macro-joint in VRM.The effect of the rock viscosity on the stress wave propagation is evaluated by comparing the results of VRM from the presented EDDM with those of an elastic rock mass (ERM) from the conventional displacement discontinuity method (CDDM).The CDDM is a special case of the EDDM under the condition that the rock viscosity is ignored.Comparison of the reflected and transmitted waves shows that the essential rock viscosity has a significant effect on stress wave attenuation. When a short propagation distance of a stress wave is considered, the results obtained from the CDDM approximate to the EDDM solutions, however, when the propagation distance is sufficiently long relative to the wavelength, the effect of rock viscosity on the stress wave propagation cannot be ignored.L.F.Fan1,F.Ren1,G.W.Ma2 1 School of Civil and Environmental Engineering,Nanyang Technological University,Singapore,639798,Singapore 2 School of Civil and Resource Engineering,The University of Western Australia,Crawley,WA 6009,Australia 2011Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2011,3,1:8
EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF BEDLOAD TRANSPORT IN UNSTEADY OPEN-CHANNEL FLOW显示文摘Experiments are performed to study bedload transport in both steady uniform and unsteady open-channel flows. Data of Steady uniform flow fit well with the existing formula in the literature. If the formula for sediment transport in a uniform flow is used to predict the bedload transport rate in unsteady flow, the calculated and the measured bedload transport rates are different. For the runs with predominately accelerating flow, the calculated sediment transport rate is smaller than the measured one, while for the runs with predominately decelerating flow, the calculated sediment transport rate is much larger than the measured one. Further analysis shows that if the flow intensity is calculated using the measured friction velocity instead of the bed slope, the calculated bedload transport rate using the formula for uniform flow agrees reasonably well with the measured one.T.SONG Post-Doctoral Fellow, School of Civil and Structural Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Nanyang Avenue, Singapore 639798. 7Complete solving of explicit evaluation of Gauss sums in the index 2 case显示文摘Let p be a prime number,N be a positive integer such that gcd(N,p) = 1,q = pf where f is the multiplicative order of p modulo N.Let χ be a primitive multiplicative character of order N over finite field Fq.This paper studies the problem of explicit evaluation of Gauss sums G(χ) in the 'index 2 case'(i.e.[(Z/NZ):] = 2).Firstly,the classification of the Gauss sums in the index 2 case is presented. Then, the explicit evaluation of Gauss sums G(χλ)(1 λ N-1) in the index 2 case with order N being general even integer(i.e.N = 2r·N0,where r,N0 are positive integers and N0 3 is odd) is obtained. Thus, combining with the researches before, the problem of explicit evaluation of Gauss sums in the index 2 case is completely solved.YANG Jing1,2 & XIA LingLi3,1Department of Mathematical Sciences,Tsinghua University,Beijing 100084,China 2Division of Mathematical Sciences,School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences,Nanyang Technological University,637371,Singapore 3Basic Courses Department,Beijing Union University,Beijing 100101,China 2010Science China Mathematics2010,53,9:5

Prediction of dissolved oxygen in a fishery pond based on gated recurrent unit (GRU)显示文摘Dissolved oxygen(DO),an important water quality indicator in aquaculture, affects the survival rate of aquatic creatures and the yield of aquatic production. Therefore,it is important to predict DO in fishery ponds for applying artificial aeration with low energy and cost.Recently, deep learning models, such as recurrent neural network(RNN),long short-term memory(LSTM),and gated recurrent unit(GRU),are often used to predict the trend of time series, but it is unclear which one of them is more suitable for prediction of DO in fishery ponds. In this work, the RNN model,LSTM model, and GRU model were used to build three DO predicting models. The performance of the three models were compared by mean absolute error(MAE),mean square error(MSE),mean absolute percentage error(MAPE),and the coefficient of determination(R2).The performance of RNN is worse result than LSTM and GRU.The four evaluation indicators of GRU are 0.450 mg/L,0.411,0.054,and 0.994,and the four indicators of LSTM are 0.407 mg/L,0.294,0.059,and 0.970,which shows that the performance of GRU is similar to LSTM,but the time cost and number of parameters used for GRU is much lower than LSTM.It is concluded that the GRU has overall better performance and can be applied to practical applications.Wuyan Li Hao Wu Nanyang Zhu Yongnian Jiang Jinglu Tan Ya Guo 2021Information Processing in Agriculture2021,8,1:4

Intelligent direct analysis of physical and mechanical parameters of tunnel surrounding rock based on adaptive immunity algorithm and BP neural network显示文摘Because of complexity and non-predictability of the tunnel surrounding rock, the problem with the determination of the physical and mechanical parameters of the surrounding rock has become a main obstacle to theoretical research and numerical analysis in tunnel engineering. During design, it is a frequent practice, therefore, to give recommended values by analog based on experience. It is a key point in current research to make use of the displacement back analytic method to comparatively accurately determine the parameters of the surrounding rock whereas artificial intelligence possesses an exceptionally strong capability of identifying, expressing and coping with such complex non-linear relationships. The parameters can be verified by searching the optimal network structure, using back analysis on measured data to search optimal parameters and performing direct computation of the obtained results. In the current paper, the direct analysis is performed with the biological emulation system and the software of Fast Lagrangian Analysis of Continua (FLAC3D. The high non-linearity, network reasoning and coupling ability of the neural network are employed. The output vector required of the training of the neural network is obtained with the numerical analysis software. And the overall space search is conducted by employing the Adaptive Immunity Algorithm. As a result, we are able to avoid the shortcoming that multiple parameters and optimized parameters are easy to fall into a local extremum. At the same time, the computing speed and efficiency are increased as well. Further, in the paper satisfactory conclusions are arrived at through the intelligent direct-back analysis on the monitored and measured data at the Erdaoya tunneling project. The results show that the physical and mechanical parameters obtained by the intelligent direct-back analysis proposed in the current paper have effectively improved the recommended values in the original prospecting data. This is of practical significance to the appraisal of stability and informationization design of the surrounding rock.Xiao-rui Wang1,2, Yuan-han Wang1, Xiao-feng Jia31.School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics,Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430074,China 2.Department of Civil Engineering,Nanyang Institute of Technology,Nanyang 473004,China 3.Department of Chemistry and Bioengineering,Nanyang Institute of Technology,Nanyang 473004,China. 2009Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2009,21,1:3
Theoretical analysis of natural frequency of externally prestressed concrete beam based on rigidity correction显示文摘A dynamic test on externally prestressed simply supported concrete beams separately with three typical types of tendon distributions was conducted. The results show that the natural frequencies of the beams increase with the increase in the prestressing force at the tensioning stage, and the natural frequencies decrease after the cracks occur in the beams. Following the calculation formula of natural frequency of externally prestressed beam, which was reported in a literature, the natural frequencies of the experimental beams are calculated, and big errors are found between the test results and the calculated ones of natural frequency values. As a result, this paper has tried to adopt two methods to correct the rigidity parameter of the concrete beam in the formula for natural frequency calculation, and to use the corrected formula to calculate the frequencies of the experimental beams. The calculation results indicate a good consistency with the experimental ones, which verifies the feasibility of the corrected formula.Hui-xia Xiong1,2, Yao-ting Zhang11.School of Civil Engineering & Mechanics, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430074, China 2.Department of Civil Engineering, Nanyang Institute of Technology, Nanyang 473004, China. 2009Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2009,21,1:3

Conclusions: The results provide important leads for pursuing a more complete understanding of the molecular events of Aβ-injection into mice with Alzheimer disease.Ling-naKONG Ping-pingZUO LiangMU Yan-yongLIU NanYANG 2005Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2005,26,6:2
Impacts of human interventions on the seasonal and nodal dynamics of the M_(2)and K_(1)tidal constituents in Lingdingyang Bay of the Zhujiang River Delta,China显示文摘Natural and human-induced changes may exert considerable impacts on the seasonal and nodal dynamics of M2 and K1 tidal constituents. Therefore, quantifying the influences of these factors on tidal regime changes is essential for sustainable water resources management in coastal environments. In this study, the enhanced harmonic analysis was applied to extract the seasonal variability of the M2 and K1 tidal amplitudes and phases at three gauging stations along Lingdingyang Bay of the Zhujiang River Delta. The seasonal dynamics in terms of tidal wave celerity and amplification/damping rate were used to quantify the impacts of human-induced estuarine morphological alterations on M2 and K1 tidal hydrodynamics in inner and outer Lingdingyang Bay.The results show that both tidal amplification/damping rate and wave celerity were considerably increased from the pre-anthropogenic activity period(Pre-AAP)to the post-anthropogenic activity period(Post-AAP)excepting the tidal amplification/damping rate in outer Lingdingyang Bay,and the variations in outer Lingdingyang Bay was larger than those in inner Lingdingyang Bay.The alterations in these two parameters were more significant in flood season than in dry season in both inner and outer Lingdingyang Bay.The seasonal variability of M2 and K1 tidal amplitudes were further quantified using a regression model accounting for the 18.61-year lunar nodal modulation, where this study observes a considerable alteration in M2 constituent owing to human interventions.During the Post-AAP,the M2 amplitudes at the downstream station were larger than those that would have occurred in the absence of strong human interventions, whereas the opposite was true for the upstream station, leading to a substantial decrease in tidal amplification in outer Lingdingyang Bay.However,it is opposite in inner Lingdingyang Bay.The underlying mechanism can be primarily attributed to channel deepening and narrowing caused by human interventions, that resulted in substantial enlargement of the bay volume and reduced the effective bottom friction, leading to faster wave celerity and stronger amplified waves.Ping Zhang Qingshu Yang Haidong Pan Heng Wang Meifang Xie Huayang Cai Nanyang Chu Liangwen Jia 2021Acta Oceanologica Sinica2021,40,10:2
Development and optimisation of electrode materials in solid oxide fuel cells显示文摘Solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is an all solid electrochemical device to convert fuels such as hydrogen and natural gas to electricity with high efficiency and very low greenhouse gas emission compared to traditional thermal power generation plants. Moreover, the reliability and efficiency of SOFC is critically dependent on the performance and stability of its components including anode, cathode and electrolyte. This in turn is largely dependent on the material selection and the fabrication processes. In this paper, specific examples are given to demonstrate strategy and process in the development and optimisation of electrode materials such as Ni/Y 2O 3 ZrO 2 cermet anodes and (LaSr)MnO 3 based cathodes. The results also demonstrate the importance of fabrication processes and that the understanding of the electrode process plays a very important role in the optimisation process of electrode materials.JIANG San ping(Fuel Cell Strategic Research Programme, School of Mechanical and Production Engineering,Nanyang Technological University, Nanyang Avenue, Singapore 639798) 2002电池2002,32,3:2
Dynamic Settings and Interactions between Basin Subsidence and Orogeny in Zhoukou Depression and Dabie Orogenic Belt显示文摘This paper presents a study of the geo dynamic setting and the relation between orogenic uplift and basin subsidence in the inland Zhoukou depression and Dabie orogenic belt. Since the Mesozoic the evolution of Zhoukou depression can be divided into three stages: (1) foreland basin, (2) transitional stage, (3) fault depression. Formation and variations of basin were not only related to the orogenesis, but also consistent with the orogenic uplift.Sun Jiazhen Yang Xianghua Faculty of Earth Resources, China University of Geosciences, Wuhan 430074, China Qiu Ronghua He Mingxi Exploration and Development Institute of Henan Oilfield, Nanyang 473132, China 2000Journal of Earth Science2000,19,3:2
Pulse-width-induced polarization enhancement of optically pumped N-V electron spin in diamond显示文摘The nitrogen-vacancy(N-V)center in diamond is a widely used platform for quantum information processing and sensing. The electron-spin state of the N-V center could be initialized, read out optically, and manipulated by resonate microwave fields. In this work,we analyze the dependence of electron-spin initialization on widths of laser pulses. We build a numerical model to simulate this process and to verify the simulation results in experiments. Both simulations and experiments reveal that shorter laser pulses are helpful to the electron-spin polarization. We therefore propose to use extremely short laser pulses for electron-spin initialization. In this new scheme, the spin-state contrast could be improved about 10%in experiments by using laser pulses as short as 4 ns in width.Furthermore,we provide a mechanism to explain this effect, which is due to the occupation time in the meta-stable spin-singlet states of the N-V center. Our new scheme is applicable in a broad range of N-V-based applications in the future.YUMENG SONG YU TIAN ZHIYI HU FEIFEI ZHOU TENGTENG XING DAWEI LU BING CHEN YA WANG NANYANG XU JIANGFENG DU 2020Photonics Research2020,8,8:1
A rectifying diode with hysteresis effect from an electroactive hybrid of carbazole-functionalized polystyrene with CdTe nanocrystals via electrostatic interaction显示文摘One of the strategies to tune current-voltage behaviors in organic diodes is to combine field-induced charge transfer processes with schottky barrier.According to this principle,a rectifying diode with hysteresis effect was fabricated utilizing a hybrid of electroactive polystyrene derivative covalently tethered with electron-donor carbazole moieties and electrostatic linked with electron-acceptor CdTe nanocrystals.Current-voltage characteristics show an electrical switching behavior with some hysteresis is only observed under a negative bias, with three orders of On/Off current ratio. The hybrid material based rectifier exhibits a rectification ratio of six and its maximum rectified output current is about 5 × 10-5 A.The asymmetric switching is interpreted as the result of both field induced charge transfer and schottky barrier, capable of reducing the misreading of cross-bar memory.Meanwhile, chemical doping of CdTe nanocrystals instead of physical blend favor their uniform dispersion in matrix and stable operation of device.LIU JuQing1,QI XiaoYing2,JIANG Ting1,LIN ZongQiong1,CHEN ShuFen1,XIE LingHai1*,FAN QuLi1,LING QiDan1,ZHANG Hua2 & HUANG Wei1* 1Key Laboratory for Organic Electronics & Information Displays(KLOEID) and Institute of Advanced Materials(IAM),Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications,Nanjing 210046,China 2School of Materials Science and Engineering,Nanyang Technological University,Singapore 639798,Singapore 2010Science China Chemistry2010,53,11:1
