1Validation of a serum microRNA panel as biomarkers for early diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma post-hepatitis C infection in Egyptian patients显示文摘AIM To investigate the prospective importance of serum micro(mi)RNAs(mi R-125 b, mi R-138 b, mi R-1269, mi R-214-5p, mi R-494, mi R375 and mi R-145) as early biomarkers for the diagnosis of hepatitis C virus(HCV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS Two-hundred and fifty HCV4 a patients, 224 HCV4 aHCC patients, and 84 healthy controls were enrolled in the study. Expression levels of mi R214-5p, mi R-125 b, mi R-1269 and mi R-375 were quantified using quantitative real-time PCR.RESULTS Expression of the selected mi RNAs in serum wassignificantly lower in HCC patients than in the healthy controls, except for mi R-1269 and mi R-494. There was a significant difference between HCC and HCV patients, in particular for HCC and late stage fibrosis, rather than HCV patients and early fibrosis. It is obvious that mi R-1269 was significantly upregulated in HCC cases compared to hepatic fibrosis cases. Each mi RNA can show HCC progression. Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that the tested panel of mi RNAs(mi R214-5p, mi R-125 b, mi R-1269 and mi R-375) represent accurate and specific indictors of HCC development.CONCLUSION This study presents a panel of mi RNAs with strong power as putative diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for HCV-induced HCC. 4Peptide-based targeting of immunosuppressive cells in cancer显示文摘Cancer progression is marked by the infiltration of immunosuppressive cells,such as tumor-associated macrophages(TAMs),regulatory T lymphocytes(Tregs),and myeloid-derived suppressor cells(MDSCs).These cells play a key role in abrogating the cytotoxic T lymphocyte-mediated(CTL)immune response,allowing tumor growth to proceed unabated.Furthermore,targeting these immunosuppressive cells through the use of peptides and peptide-based nanomedicine has shown promising results.Here we review the origins and functions of immunosuppressive cells in cancer progression,peptide-based systems used in their targeting,and explore future avenues of research regarding cancer immunotherapy.The success of these studies demonstrates the importance of the tumor immune microenvironment in the propagation of cancer and the potential of peptide-based nanomaterials as immunomodulatory agents.Noah T.Trac Eun Ji Chung 2020Bioactive Materials2020,5,1:7

6Easy removing of phenol from wastewater using vegetable oil-based organic solvent in emulsion liquid membrane process显示文摘Phenol is considered as pollutant due to its toxicity and carcinogenic effect.Thus,variety of innovative methods for separation and recovery of phenolic compounds is developed in order to remove the unwanted phenol from wastewater and obtain valuable phenolic compound.One of potential method is extraction using green based liquid organic solvent.Therefore,the feasibility of using palm oil was investigated.In this research,palm oil based organic phase was used as diluents to treat a simulated wastewater containing 300×10^(-6) of phenol solution using emulsion liquid membrane process(ELM).The stability of water-in-oil(W/O) emulsion on diluent composition and the parameters affecting the phenol removal efficiency and stability of the emulsion;such as emulsification speed,emulsification time,agitation speed,surfactant concentration,pH of external phase,contact time,stripping agent concentration and treat ratio were carried out.The results of ELM study showed that at ratio7 to 3 of palm oil to kerosene,5 min and 1300 r·min^(-1) of emulsification process the stabile primary emulsion were formed.Also,no carrier is needed to facilitate the phenol extraction.In experimental conditions of500 r·min^(-1) of agitation speed,3%Span 80,pH 8 of external phase,5 min of contact time,0.1 mol·L^(-1) NaOH as stripping agent and 1:10 of treat ratio,the ELM process was very promising for removing the phenol from the wastewater.The extraction performance at about 83%of phenol was removed for simulated wastewater and an enrichment of phenol in recovery phase as phenolate compound was around 11 times.Norasikin Othman Norul Fatiha Mohamed Noah Lim Yin Shu Zing-Yi Ooi Norela Jusoh Mariani Idroas Masahiro Goto 2017Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2017,25,1:4

9MicroRNA signature in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma associated with type 2 diabetes显示文摘BACKGROUND Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis-related cirrhosis is one of the liver complications in type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)and reported to be a risk factor for developing hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).A reliable screening biomarker of liver cirrhosis(LC)and HCC among T2DM patients is important to reduce the morbidity and mortality of this disease.MicroRNA(miRNA)is considered a key player in HCC and T2DM,and it might be a hidden culprit in diabetes-associated HCC,making it a promising reliable prognostic tool.AIM To investigate the signature of serum miRNAs as early biomarkers for the screening of HCC among diabetic patients.METHODS Expression profiles of miRNAs in serum samples of diabetic LC and diabetic HCC patients were assessed using Illumina sequencing;then,RT-qPCR was used to validate significantly altered miRNAs between the two groups.Candidate miRNAs were tested in serum samples of 200 T2DM patients,270 LC patients,200 HCC patients,and 225 healthy control subjects.Additionally,receiver operating characteristic(ROC)analysis,with area under the curve(AUC),was performed to assess the diagnostic performance of the screened miRNAs for discriminating HCC from LC and nonmalignant patients(LC+T2DM).RESULTS Expression of the sequenced miRNAs in serum was different in HCC vs LCpositive T2DM patients.Two miRNAs(miR-34a,miR-221)were significantly upregulated and five miRNAs(miR-16,miR-23-3p,miR-122-5p,miR-198,miR-199a-3p)were significantly down-regulated in HCC compared to LC patients.Analysis of ROC curve demonstrated that the combination of these seven miRNAs can be used as a reliable biomarker for detection of HCC in diabetic patients,as it could identify HCC with high diagnostic accuracy in diabetic LC patients(AUC=0.993)and in diabetic nonmalignant patients(AUC=0.961).CONCLUSION This study validates a panel of serum miRNAs that can be used as a reliable noninvasive screening biomarker of HCC among T2DM cirrhotic and noncirrhotic patients.The study recommends further research to shed light on a possible role of c-Met in T2DM-associated HCC via the miRNA regulatory pathway.Moustafa Nouh Elemeery Marwa Anwar Mohamed Marwa Ahmed Madkour Mohammed Mohammed Shamseya Noha Mahmoud Issa Ahmed Noah Badr Doaa Ahmed Ghareeb Cheol-Ho Pan 2019World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,42:3
10Update on novel endoscopic therapies to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease: A review显示文摘Endoscopic treatments for gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD) have become increasingly popular in recent years. While surgical intervention with the Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication remains the gold standard, two endoscopic interventions, specifically, are gaining traction in clinical use(Esophy X and Stretta). The Esophy X(Endo Gastric Solutions, Inc., Redmond, WA, United States) was developed as a method of restoring the valve at the GE junction through an endoluminal fundoplication(ELF) technique. Long-term data suggests that transoral incisional fundoplication(TIF) with Esophy X may be effective for symptom control and proton pump inhibitor reduction or cessation for up to 2-6 years. There is no evidence that Esophy X is more effective than surgical intervention. TIF may be most effective for patients with HH < 2 cm and Hill Grade I/II valves. Stretta(Mederi Therapeutics, Greenwich, CT, United States) was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2000. It delivers radiofrequency energy to the lower esophageal sphincter and gastric cardia. Published reviews of the literature are conflicted in their recommendations of Stretta in the management of GERD. The literature suggests that the Stretta procedure has an acceptable safety profile and may be effective in reducing symptom burden and quality of life scores up to 8 years post-intervention. However, there does not appear to be any sustained improvement in objective outcomes and there is no evidence that Stretta results in improved outcomes as compared to surgical intervention. Treatment modalities for GERD, as a field, suffer from a lack of standardization in primary and secondary outcomes. Although many studies have looked at health related quality of life, the tools used to do so are markedly heterogeneous. 17Superconductivity in antiperovskites显示文摘We present a comprehensive theoretical study of conventional superconductivity in cubic antiperovskites materials with composition XYZ_(3) where X and Z are metals,and Y is H,B,C,N,O,and P.Our starting point are electron–phonon calculations for 397 materials performed with density-functional perturbation theory.While 43%of the materials are dynamically unstable,we discovered 16 compounds close to thermodynamic stability and with T_(c) higher than 5 K.Using these results to train interpretable machine-learning models,leads us to predict a further 57(thermodynamically unstable)materials with superconducting transition temperatures above 5 K,reaching a maximum of 17.8 K for PtHBe3.Furthermore,the models give us an understanding of the mechanism of superconductivity in antiperovskites.The combination of traditional approaches with interpretable machine learning turns out to be a very efficient methodology to study and systematize whole classes of materials and is easily extendable to other families of compounds or physical properties.Noah Hoffmann Tiago F.T.Cerqueira Jonathan Schmidt Miguel A.L.Marques 2022npj Computational Materials2022,,1:2
