| 1 | Vascular cognitive impairment, a cardiovascular complication显示文摘Over the past two decades, the term vascular cognitive impairment(VCI) has been used to refer to a spectrum of cognitive decline characterized by executive dysfunction, associated with vascular pathology. With 30% of stroke survivors showing cognitive impairments, it is regarded as the most common cause of cognitive impairment. This is a narrative review of available literature citing sources from Pub Med, MEDLINE and Google Scholar. VCI has a high prevalence both before and after a stroke and is associated with great economic and caregiver burden. Despite this, there is no standardized diagnostic criteria for VCI. Hypertension has been identified as a risk factor for VCI and causes changes in cerebral vessel structure and function predisposing to lacuna infarcts and small vessel haemorrhages in the frontostriatal loop leading to executive dysfunction and other cognitive impairments. Current trials have shown promising results in the use of antihypertensive medications in the management of VCI and prevention of disease progression to vascular dementia. Prevention of VCI is necessary in light of the looming dementia pandemic. | 4 | A Simple Method of Electrospun Tungsten Trioxide Nanofibers with Enhanced Visible-Light Photocatalytic Activity显示文摘The present study involves the fabrication of tungsten trioxide(WO3) nanofibers by an electrospinning technique using polyvinyl pyrrolidone(PVP)/citric acid/tungstic acid as precursor solution. It was found that the PVP concentration was one of the most crucial processing parameters determining the final properties of WO3 nanofibers. The optimum concentration of PVP was from 75 to 94 g L-1. The average diameter of the nanofibers increases with increasing the PVP concentration, whereas it is decreased after sintering and orthorhombic structure were formed at 500 °C. | 5 | Nitrogen-doped Porous Carbon Derived from Surface-attached Polymer Layers for Oxygen Reduction Reaction under Acidic Conditions显示文摘We reported the synthesis of nitrogen-doped carbon using surface-attached polyelectrolyte layers as precursors. The synthesized material has a large surface area of 800 m^2·g^(-1) with uniformed pore distribution. Benefitfed from the high pyridinic nitrogen content, the synthesized nitrogen-doped porous carbon material exhibits promising electrocatalytic activity toward oxygen reduction reactions in acidic medium and very high stability against continuous cyclic voltammetry scans. | 6 | Peroral endoscopic reduction of dilated gastrojejunal anastomosis after bariatric surgery: Techniques and efficacy显示文摘AIM: To investigate the techniques and efficacy of peroral endoscopic reduction of dilated gastrojejunal anastomosis after bariatric surgery.METHODS: An extensive English language literature search was conducted using Pub Med, MEDLINE, Medscape and Google to identify peer-reviewed original and review articles using the keywords 'bariatric endoscopic suturing', 'overstitch bariatric surgery', 'endoscopic anastomotic reduction', 'bariatric surgery', 'gastric bypass', 'obesity', 'weight loss'. We identified articles describing technical feasibility, safety, efficacy, and adverse outcomes of overstitch endoscopic suturing system for transoral outlet reduction in patients with weight regain following Roux-en-Y gastric bypass(RYGB). All studies that contained material applicable to the topic were considered. Retrieved peer-reviewed original and review articles were reviewed by the authors and the data extracted using a standardized collection tool. Data were analyzed using statistical analysis as percentages of the event. RESULTS: Four original published articles which met our search criteria were pooled. The total number cases were fifty-nine with a mean age of 46.75 years(34-63 years). Eight of the patients included in those studies were males(13.6%) and fifty-one were females(86.4%). The mean time elapsed since the primary bypass surgery was 5.75 years. The average pre-endoscopic procedure body mass index(BMI) was 38.68(27.5-48.5). Mean body weight regained post-RYGB surgery was 13.4 kg from their post-RYGB nadir. The average pouch length at the initial upper endoscopy was 5.75 cm(2-14 cm). The pre-intervention anastomotic diameter was averaged at 24.85 mm(8-40 mm). Average procedure time was 74 min(50-164 min). Mean post endoscopic intervention anastomotic diameter was 8 mm(3-15 mm). Weight reduction at 3 to 4 mo post revision noted to be anaverage of 10.1 kg. Average overall post revision BMI was recorded at 37.7. The combined technical and clinical success rate was 94.9%(56/59) among studied participants. | 8 | Genetic Diversity of European and Chinese Oilseed Brassica rapa Cultivars from Different Breeding Periods显示文摘The Brassica oilseed crops went through two major breeding bottlenecks during the introgression of genes for zero erucic acid and low glucosinolate content,respectively,which may lead to reduced genetic biodiversity of the crop. This study investigates the impact of these bottlenecks on the genetic diversity within and across European and Chinese winter B. rapa cultivars. We compared eight cultivars from Europe and China,representing three different seed qualities from three different breeding periods:(1) high erucic acid,high glucosinolates (++); (2) zero erucic acid,high glucosinolates (0+); (3) zero erucic acid,low glucosonolates (00,canola quality). Diversity was estimated on 32 plants per cultivar,with 16 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers covering each of the B. rapa linkage groups. The analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) showed that genetic variations within cultivars,across cultivars and across regions (Europe and China) were significant,with about 60% of the total variation within cultivars. There was a slight,but non-significant loss in genetic diversity within cultivars when comparing the three breeding periods as indicated by effective number of alleles (2.39,2.23,and 1.99 for breeding periods 1,2,and 3,respectively),Shannon information index (0.93,0.90,0.75),and expected heterozygosity (0.51,0.49,0.42). By cluster analysis (UPGMA dendrogram) and principal coordinate analysis,Chinese and European cultivars were clearly divided into two distinct groups.
