| 1 | Diabetes and peripheral artery disease:A review显示文摘Peripheral arterial disease(PAD)refers to partial or complete occlusion of the peripheral vessels of the upper and lower limbs.It usually occurs as part of systemic atherosclerosis in the coronary and cerebral arteries.The prevalence of PAD is expected to continue to increase in the foreseeable future owing to the rise in the occurrence of its major risk factors.Nonhealing ulcers,limb amputation and physical disability are some of its major complications.Diabetes mellitus(DM)remains a major risk for PAD,with DM patients having more than two-fold increased prevalence of PAD compared with the general population.The clinical presentation in people with DM also differs slightly from that in the general population.In addition,PAD in DM may lead to diabetic foot ulcers(DFUs),which precipitate hyperglycaemic emergencies and result in increased hospital admissions,reduced quality of life,and mortality.Despite the epidemiological and clinical importance of PAD,it remains largely under diagnosed and hence undertreated,possibly because it is largely asymptomatic.Emphasis has been placed on neuropathy as a cause of DFUs,however PAD is equally important.This review examines the epidemiology,pathophysiology and diagnosis of lower limb PAD in people with diabetes and relates these to the general population.It also highlights recent innovations in the management of PAD. | David Olubukunmi Soyoye Olugbenga Olusola Abiodun Rosemary Temidayo Ikem Babatope Ayodeji Kolawole Anthony Olubunmi Akintomide | 2021 | World Journal of Diabetes2021,12,6: | 10 |

| 3 | Genome-wide characterization and developmental expression profiling of long non-coding RNAs in Sogatella furcifera显示文摘The genome-wide characterization of long non-coding RNA(lncRNA)in insects demonstrates their importance in fundamental biological processes.Esentially,an in-depth understanding of the functional repertoire of lncRNA in insects is pivotal to insect resources utilization and sustainable pest control.Using a custom bioinformatics pipeline,we identified 1861 lncRNAs encoded by 1852 loci in the Sogatella furcifera genome.We profiled lncRNA expression in different developmental stages and observed that the expression of lncRNAs is more highly temporally restricted compared to protein-coding genes.More up-re gulated Sogatella furcifera lncRNA expressed in the embryo,4th and 5th instars,suggesting that increased lncRNA levels may play a role in these developmental stages.We compared the relationship between the expression of Sogatella furcifera lncRNA and its nearest protein gene and found that lncRNAs were more correlated to their downstream coding neighbors on the opposite strand.Our genome-wide profiling of lncRNAs in Sogatella furcifera identifies exciting candidates for characterization of lncRNAs,and also provides information on lncRNA regulation during insect development. | Zhao-Xia Chang Olugbenga Emmanuel Ajayi Dong-Yang Guo Qing-Fa Wu | 2020 | Insect Science2020,27,5: | 3 |
| 4 | Characterization of cobalt ferrite-supported activated carbon for removal of chromium and lead ions from tannery wastewater via adsorption equilibrium显示文摘In this experiment,cobalt ferrite-supported activated carbon(CF-AC)was developed and characterized via the wet impregnation method for the removal of Cr and Pb(II)ions from tannery wastewater.Batch adsorption was carried out to evaluate the effect of experimental operating conditions(pH of solution,contact time,adsorbent dose,and temperature),and the removal efficiencies of Cr and Pb(II)ions by the developed adsorbents were calculated and recorded for all experimental conditions.These variables were estimated and reported as removal efficiencies of 98.2%for Cr and 96.4%for Pb(II)ions at the optimal conditions of 5,0.8 g,80 min,and 333 K for pH,adsorbent dose,contact time,and temperature,respectively.The equilibrium for the sorption of Cr and Pb(II)ions was studied using four widely used isotherm models(the Langmuir,Freundlich,Dubinin-Radushkevich,and Temkin isotherm models).It was found that the Freundlich isotherm model fit better with the coefficient of determination(R2)of 0.9484 and a small sum of square error of 0.0006.The maximum adsorption capacities(Qm)of Pb(II)and Cr adsorbed onto CF-AC were determined to be 6.27 and 23.6 mg/g,respectively.The adsorption process conformed well to pseudo-second order kinetics as revealed by the high R2 values obtained for both metals.The thermodynamic parameters showed that adsorption of Cr and Pb(II)ions onto CF-AC was spontaneous,feasible,and endothermic under the studied conditions.The mean adsorption energy(E)values revealed that the adsorption mechanism of Cr and Pb(II)by CF-AC is physical in nature.The results of the study showed that adsorbent developed from CF-AC can be efficiently used as an environmentally friendly alternative adsorbent,for removal of Cr and Pb(II)ions in tannery wastewater. | Muibat Diekola Yahya Kehinde Shola Obayomi Mohammed Bello Abdulkadir Yahaya Ahmed Iyaka Adeola Grace Olugbenga | 2020 | Water Science and Engineering2020,13,3: | 2 |
| 5 | Two-stage capacity optimization approach of multi-energy system considering its optimal operation显示文摘With the depletion of fossil fuel and climate change,multi-energy systems have attracted widespread attention in buildings.Multi-energy systems,fuelled by renewable energy,including solar and biomass energy,are gain-ing increasing adoption in commercial buildings.Most of previous capacity design approaches are formulated based upon conventional operating schedules,which result in inappropriate design capacities and ineffective operating schedules of the multi-energy system.Therefore,a two-stage capacity optimization approach is pro-posed for the multi-energy system with its optimal operating schedule taken into consideration.To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed capacity optimization approach,it is tested on a renewable energy fuelled multi-energy system in a commercial building.The primary energy devices of the multi-energy system consist of biomass gasification-based power generation unit,heat recovery unit,heat exchanger,absorption chiller,elec-tric chiller,biomass boiler,building integrated photovoltaic and photovoltaic thermal hybrid solar collector.The variable efficiency owing to weather condition and part-load operation is also considered.Genetic algorithm is adopted to determine the optimal design capacity and operating capacity of energy devices for the first-stage and second-stage optimization,respectively.The two optimization stages are interrelated;thus,the optimal design and operation of the multi-energy system can be obtained simultaneously and effectively.With the adoption of the proposed novel capacity optimization approach,there is a 14%reduction of year-round biomass consumption compared to one with the conventional capacity design approach. | X.J.Luo Lukumon O.Oyedele Olugbenga O.Akinade Anuoluwapo O.Ajayi | 2020 | Energy and AI2020,1,1: | 2 |

| 8 | Comparison of novel tools with traditional cognitive tests in detecting delirium in elderly medical patients显示文摘BACKGROUND Efficient detection of delirium and comorbid delirium-dementia is a key diagnostic challenge.Development of new,efficient delirium-focused methods of cognitive assessment is a key challenge for improved detection of neurocognitive disorders in everyday clinical practice.AIM To compare the accuracy of two novel bedside tests of attention,vigilance and visuospatial function with conventional bedside cognitive tests in identifying delirium in older hospitalized patients.METHODS 180 consecutive elderly medical inpatients(mean age 79.6±7.2;51%female)referred to a psychiatry for later life consultation-liaison service with delirium,dementia,comorbid delirium-dementia and cognitively intact controls.Participants were assessed cross-sectionally with conventional bedside cognitive tests[WORLD,Months Backward test(MBT),Spatial span,Vigilance A and B,Clock Drawing test and Interlocking Pentagons test]and two novel cognitive tests[Lighthouse test,Letter and Shape Drawing test(LSD)-4].RESULTS Neurocognitive diagnoses were delirium(n=44),dementia(n=30),comorbid delirium-dementia(n=60)and no neurocognitive disorder(n=46).All conventional tests had sensitivity of>70%for delirium,with best overall accuracy for the Vigilance-B(78.3%),Vigilance-A(77.8%)and MBT(76.7%)tests.The sustained attention component of the Lighthouse test was the most distinguishing of delirium(sensitivity 84.6%;overall accuracy 75.6%).The LSD-4 had sensitivity of 74.0%and overall accuracy 74.4%for delirium identification.Combining tests allowed for enhanced sensitivity(>90%)and overall accuracy(≥75%)with the highest overall accuracy for the combination of MBT-Vigilance A and the combined Vigilance A and B tests(both 78.3%).When analyses were repeated for those with dementia,there were similar findings with the MBTVigilance A the most accurate overall combination(80.0%).Combining the Lighthouse-SA with the LSD-4,a fail in either test had sensitivity for delirium of 91.4 with overall accuracy of 74.4%.CONCLUSION Bedside tests of attention,vigilance and visuospatial ability can help to distinguish neurocognitive disorders,including delirium,from other presentations.The Lighthouse test and the LSD-4 are novel tests with high accuracy for detecting delirium. | David J Meagher Henry O’Connell Maeve Leonard Olugbenga Williams Fahad Awan Chris Exton Michael Tenorio Margaret O’Connor Colum P Dunne Walter Cullen John McFarland Dimitrios Adamis | 2020 | World Journal of Psychiatry2020,10,4: | 1 |

| 11 | Genetic algorithm-determined deep feedforward neural network architecture for predicting electricity consumption in real buildings显示文摘A genetic algorithm-determined deep feedforward neural network architecture(GA-DFNN)is proposed for both day-ahead hourly and week-ahead daily electricity consumption of a real-world campus building in the United Kingdom.Due to the comprehensive relationship between affecting factors and real-world building electricity consumption,the adoption of multiple hidden layers in the deep neural network(DFNN)algorithm would improve its prediction accuracy.The architecture of a DFNN model mainly refers to its quantity of hidden layers,quantity of neurons in the hidden layers,activation function in each layer and learning process to obtain the connecting weights.The optimal architecture of DFNN model was generally determined through a trial-and-error process,which is an exponential combinatorial problem and a tedious task.To address this problem,genetic algorithm(GA)is adopted to automatically design an optimal architecture with improved generalization ability.One year and six months of measurement data from a campus building is used for training and testing the proposed GA-DFNN model,respectively.To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed GA-DFNN prediction model,its prediction performance,including mean absolute percentage error,coefficient of determination,root mean square error and mean absolute error,was compared to the reference feedforward neural network models with single hidden layer,DFNN models with other architecture,random search determined DFNN model,long-short-term-memory model and temporal convolutional network model.The comparison results show that the proposed GA-DFNN predictive model has superior performance than all the reference prediction models,demonstrating the optimization effectiveness of GA and the prediction effectiveness of DFNN model with multiple hidden layers and optimal architecture. | X.J.Luo Lukumon O.Oyedele Anuoluwapo O.Ajayi Olugbenga O.Akinade Juan Manuel Davila Delgado Hakeem A.Owolabi Ashraf Ahmed | 2020 | Energy and AI2020,2,2: | 1 |
