1Pharmacognostic study and anti-inflammatory activity of Callistemon lanceolatus leaf显示文摘Objective:To study detail pharmacognosy and anti-inflammatory activity of Callistemon lanceolatus(C.lanceolatus) leaf.Methods:Leaf sample was studied by organoleptic, macroscopical,microscopical,phytochemical and other WHO recommended methods for standardizations.The methanolic leaf extract of the plant was also screened for antiinflammatory activity on carrageenan-induced paw edema in rat at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg, orally.The detail pharmacognostic study of the C.lanceolatus leaf was carried out to lay down the standards which could be useful in future experimental studies.Results:C.lanceolatus methanolic leaf extract showed significant(P<0.0S) anti-inflammatory activity at doses of 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg.This significant anti-inflammatory of C.lanceolatus methanolic leaf extract at the dose of 400 mg/kg was comparable with diclofenac sodium.Conchuioiis:The pharmacognostic profile of the C.lanceolatus leaf is helpful in standardization for quality,purity and sample identification.The methanolic extract at a dose of 400 mg/kg shows a significant activity in comparison with the standard drug diclofenac sodium(50 mg/kg).Kumar S Kumar V Prakash OM 2011Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2011,1,3:10
2Free radical scavenging property and antiproliferative activity of Rhodiola imbricata Edgew extracts in HT-29 human colon cancer cells显示文摘Objective:To investigate the in vitro antioxidant and antiproliferative activity of rhizome extracts of Rhodiola imbricata(R.imbricata) in HT-29 human colon cancer cell line.Methods:The successively extracted rhizome of R.imbricata using various solvents was analyzed for their total phenolics,tannins and flavonoid contents.In vitro antioxidant activity was evaluated by employing different assays,including DPPH,ABTS radical scavenging assays,FRAP, phosphomolybdenum reduction assay,superoxide anion,hydroxyl radical scavenging activities and metal chelating ability.Results:Acetone and methanol extracts recorded higher phenolic content and showed comparable antioxidant activity with standard reference.Additionally,they also inhibited the proliferation of HT-29 cells upon treatment at higher concentration(200μg/mL) (acetone and methanol,84%and 84%.respectively).On examination acetone extract exhibited antiproliferative activity in a concentration dependent manner whereas,methanol extract showed both dose dependent and lime dependent inhibitory activity.Conclusions:The results obtained justify the traditional usage of R.imbricata from their promising antioxidant activity.Ravichandran Senthilkumar Thangaraj Parimelazhagan Om Prakash Chaurasia R.B.Srivastava 2013Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2013,6,1:5
3Role of angiotensin converting enzyme and angiotensinogen gene polymorphisms in angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor-mediated antiproteinuric action in type 2 diabetic nephropathy patients显示文摘AIM To investigate the role of genetic variants of angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE) and angiotensinogen(AGT) genes in the antiproteinuric efficacy of ACE inhibitor therapy in diabetic nephropathy(DN) patients.METHODS In the present study, 270 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with nephropathy were enrolled and treated with ACE inhibitor(ramipril) and followed at 6 mo for renal function and albumin excretion by estimating serum creatinine, end stage renal disease, and albumin/creatinine ratio(ACR) in urine. Genotyping of ACE I/D and AGT M235 T polymorphisms were performed by using primer specific polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and PCR-RFLP techniques, respectively. RESULTS Forty-eight percent of DN patients(responders) benefited with respect to proteinuria from ACE inhibitor therapy at 6 mo follow-up. A significant reduction in ACR was observed after 6 mo treatment with ACE inhibitor irrespective of whether DN patients were micro-albuminuric(≥ 30 and < 300 mg/g creatinine) or macro-albuminuric(≥ 300 mg/g creatinine) at the time of enrollment. However, macro-albuminuric patients(55%) showed better response to therapy. A reduction in urinary ACR was found independent of genotypes of ACE I/D and AGT M235 T polymorphisms although macro-albuminuric patients having TT genotype showed statistically insignificant increased response(72%). 4Antidiabetic,hypolipidemic and histopathological analysis of Dillenia indica (L.) leaves extract on alloxan induced diabetic rats显示文摘Objective:To investigate antidiabetic,hypolipidemic histopathological analysis of Dillenia indica(D.indica) methanolic leaves(DIME) extract in alloxan induced diabetic rat by administering oral doses(250 and 500 mg/kg body weight).Methods:Blood glucose levels were measured using blood glucose test strips with elegance glucometer on weekly intervals till the end of study(i.e.3 weeks).Other parameters e.g.liver profile,renal profile and total lipid levels were determined in normal and alloxan induced diabetic rats after oral administration of the extract for 21 days.Histopathological changes in diabetic rat organs(pancreas,liver and kidney) were also observed after extract treatment Results:Daily oral administration DIME(250 and 500 mg/kg body weight) and glibenclamide(10 mg/kg) showed beneficial effects on blood glucose level (P<0.001) as well as improving kidney,liver functions and hyperlipidaemia due to diabetes. The extract treatment also showed to enhanced serum insulin level and body weight of diabetic rats as compared to diabetic control group.Furthermore,the extract has a favorable effect on the histopathological changes of the pancreas,liver and kidney in alloxan induced diabetes. 6Antidiabetic and hypolipidemic activities of Kigelia pinnata flowers extract in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats显示文摘Objective:To evaluate antidiabetic and hypolipidemic activities of Kigelia pinnata rnethanolic(lowers extract in slreplozolocin(STZ) induced diabetic W islar rat.Methods.Rats were made diabetic by a single dose of STZ at 60 mg/kg body weight i.p.The blood glucose level was checked before and 72 h after STZ injection to confirm the development ot diabetes.The flower extract and glibenclamide were administered orally at the doses of 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight for 21 days.Results:Daily oral treatment with the extract and standard drug for 21 days significantly reduced blood glucose,serum cholesterol and triglycerides levels.High density lipoprotein-cholesterol level was found to be improved(P<0.01) as compared to diabetic control group.Conclusions:It is concluded that Kigellia pinnata flowers extract have significant antidiabetic and hypolipidemic effect.Kumar S Kumar V Prakash OM 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,7:4
7Synthesis of Schiff bases of naphtha[1,2-d]thiazol-2-amine and metal complexes of 2-(2'-hydroxy)benzylideneaminonaphthothiazole as potential antimicrobial agents显示文摘Objective: A series of 2-benzylideneaminonaphthothiazoles were designed and synthesized incorporating the lipo- philic naphthalene ring to render them more capable of penetrating various biomembranes. Methods: Schiff bases were synthe- sized by the reaction of naphtha[1,2-d]thiazol-2-amine with various substituted aromatic aldehydes. 2-(2'-Hydroxy)ben- zylideneaminonaphthothiazole was converted to its Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) metal complexes upon treatment with metal salts in ethanol. All the compounds were evaluated for their antibacterial activities by paper disc diffusion method with Gram positive Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis and Gram negative Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bac- teria. The minimum inhibitory concentrations of all the Schiff bases and metal complexes were determined by agar streak dilution method. Results: All the compounds moderately inhibited the growth of Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. In the present study among all Schiff bases 2-(2'-hydroxy)benzylideneaminonaphthothiazole showed maximum inhibitory activity and among metal complexes Cu(II) metal complex was found to be most potent. Conclusion: The results obtained validate the hypothesis that Schiff bases having substitution with halogens, hydroxyl group and nitro group at phenyl ring are required for the antibacterial activity while methoxy group at different positions in the aromatic ring has minimal role in the inhibitory activity. 8Antidiabetic and anti-lipemic effects of Cassia siamea leaves extract in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats显示文摘Objective:To investigate the antidiabetic and anti-lipemic effects of Cassia siamea methanolic leaves extract.Methods:The antidiabetic study was performed by measuring blood glucose level with elegance glucometer at weekly intervals i.e.0,7,14 and 21 in normal and streptozotocin induced diabetic rats.Total cholesterol,triglyceride and HDL-cholesterol were determined in normal and streptozotocin induces diabetic rats by autoanalyser.Glibenclamide was used as a reference drug at a dose of 10 mg/kg.Results:After the oral administration of extracts at doses of 250 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg for three weeks,blood glucose levels and body weights were significantly improved(P<0.01).Daily oral treatment with the extract also resulted in significantly reduction of serum cholesterol and triglycerides.HDL-cholesterol level was found to be improved to(P<0.01).Conclusions:The Cassia siamea leaf extract is useful in controlling blood glucose level as well as improving lipid metabolism and body weight in rats with induced diabetes.S Kumar V Kumar Om Prakash 2010Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,11:3

10Disaster Risk Reduction Including Climate Change Adaptation Over South Asia: Challenges and Ways Forward显示文摘South Asia is vulnerable to a variety of hydrometeorological hazards, which are often crossboundary in nature. Climate change is expected to influence many of these hazards. Thus, climate-related risks over South Asia make disaster risk reduction(DRR) and climate change adaptation(CCA) key policy goals.Recently there is an increasing consensus that DRR including CCA should be embedded in development planning. Disaster risk reduction including CCA has progressively gained importance in global governance. Across South Asia, however, such integration is only in a preliminary stage. This review was to assess the existing status and scope of DRR including CCA in development projects across South Asia, so that an effective and achievable deliberation may be made to regional policymakers. 12Current challenges in treatment options for visceral leishmaniasis in India: a public health perspective显示文摘Visceral leishmaniasis(VL)is a serious parasitic disease causing considerable mortality and major disability in the Indian subcontinent.It is most neglected tropical disease,particularly in terms of new drug development for the lack of financial returns.An elimination campaign has been running in India since 2005 that aim to reduce the incidence of VL to below 1 per 10,000 people at sub-district level.One of the major components in this endeavor is reducing transmission through early case detection followed by complete treatment.Substantial progress has been made during the recent years in the area of VL treatment,and the VL elimination initiatives have already saved many lives by deploying them effectively in the endemic areas.However,many challenges remain to be overcome including availability of drugs,cost of treatment(drugs and hospitalization),efficacy,adverse effects,and growing parasite resistance.Therefore,better emphasis on implementation research is urgently needed to determine how best to deliver existing interventions with available anti-leishmanial drugs.It is essential that the new treatment options become truly accessible,not simply available in endemic areas so that they may promote healing and save lives.In this review,we highlight the recent advancement and challenges in current treatment options for VL in disease endemic area,and discuss the possible strategies to improve the therapeutic outcome.Om Prakash Singh Bhawana Singh Jaya Chakravarty Shyam Sundar 2016Infectious Diseases of Poverty2016,5,1:2
13Air pollution and meteorological conditions significantly contribute to the worsening of allergic conjunctivitis:a regional 20-city,5-year study in Northeast China显示文摘This study is the first to explore the potential associations among allergic conjunctivitis(AC),air pollution,and meteorological conditions in Northeast China.Data of meteorology,ambient atmospheric pollutants,and the incidence of allergic conjunctivitis(IAC)in prefecture-level cities between the years 2014 and 2018 are analyzed.The results show an increasing trend in the AC of average growth rate per annum 7.6%,with the highest incidence in the provincial capitals.The IAC is positively correlated with atmospheric pollutants(i.e.,PM_(2.5),PM_(10),CO,SO_(2),NO_(2),and O_(3))and meteorological factors(i.e.,air temperature and wind speed),but negatively correlated with relative humidity.These results suggest that the IAC is directly proportional to pollution level and climatic conditions,and also the precedence of air pollution.We have further obtained the threshold values of atmospheric pollutants concentration and meteorological factors,a turning point above which more AC may be induced.Compared with the air quality standard advised by China and the World Health Organization(WHO),both thresholds of PM_(10)(70μg m^(-3))and PM_(2.5)(45μg m^(-3))are higher than current standards and pose a less environmental risk for the IAC.SO_(2) threshold(23μg m^(-3))is comparable to the WHO standard and significantly lower than that of China’s,indicating greater environmental risks in China.Both thresholds of NO_(2)(27μg m^(-3))and O_(3)(88μg m^(-3))are below current standards,indicating that they are major environmental risk factors for the IAC.Our findings highlight the importance of atmospheric environmental protection and reference for health-based amendment.Cheng-Wei Lu Jing Fu Xiu-Fen Liu Wei-Wei Chen Ji-Long Hao Xiao-Lan Li Om Prakash Pant 2021Light(Science & Applications)2021,10,11:2
14Effect of irrigation schedule on growth and seed yield of camelina(Camelina sativa L.)in Tarai region of central Himalaya显示文摘Camelina(Camelina sativa)has emerged as a potential biofuel crop globally with its suitability even as a jet fuel source with 75–80%less greenhouse gas emissions compared to common petroleum fuels.The crop has originated from Mediterranean region and belongs to Brassicaceae family.DIBER,DRDO has made initial and pioneer efforts in successful introduction of this crop to India and its agro-technology standardization.Being a short duration crop with lesser input requirement,it fits well in the cropping pattern of hilly states of Indian Himalaya.These areas experience fallow land due to shortage of irrigation water for growing other crops.The present study revealed that irrigation at flowering stage is more beneficial.Irrigation at this stage(if only one irrigation is available)exhibited grain yield of 1.004 kg·m^(-2)which was 21 and 80%higher over pod setting and rosette stage irrigation,respectively.The maximum seed yield was observed under treatment where irrigation was provided at all three crop growth stages(2.044 kg·m^(-2)).It was 50%higher over T6 treatment(where two irrigations were given at rosette and flowering stage)and 104%higher over T3(where only one irrigation was given at flowering stage).Ankur Agarwal Om Prakash Madhu Bala 2021Oil Crop Science2021,6,1:2

16Effect of forest fragment size on tree diversity and population structure of humid subtropical forest of Meghalaya, India显示文摘The present study was conducted in subtropical humid forests of Meghalaya to study the distributional pattern of species, floristic composition, community structure and tree population structure.Forest fragments of varying sizes(0.5 ha, 1 ha, 2 ha and 5 ha) were used in the study.All of the forest fragments are distributed within the same altitudinal range, and had similar rainfall and temperature regimes.Four forest fragments were sampled using random quadrats to analyze the impact of fragment size on tree diversity and population structure.Indices were used to compare the dispersion pattern of plant species, species diversity among fragments, and the heterogeneity and homogeneity of the fragments.A total of 45 tree species were recorded from all the fragments and simple correlation showed that the species richness was positively related to fragment size(n = 4, P<0.05).Other measures such as stand density, basal cover, diversity and dominance indices were unrelated to fragment size.Forest canopy was composed mainly of Castonopsis indica, C.armata, Schima khasiana and Engelhardtia spicata in all of the fragments.A majority of woody tree species were contagiously distributed which made the forest community highly patchy in nature.Low values of Sorensen's similarity index and high values of Whittaker's β-diversity index between the fragments suggest marked difference in the species composition among the fragments.The maximum stand density, basal area, Shannon diversity index and Simpson dominance index was recorded in a 5-ha fragment.Trees in lower girth classes(15-55 cm circumference at breast height, CBH) accounted for 52-86% of stand density in all fragments except in 0.5-ha fragments where middle girth class(55-95 cm CBH) accounted for 47% of the total stand density.The overall density of seedlings, saplings and adult trees formed a pyramidal structure, indicating that the period between the sapling and adult stage was a critical stage in tree life cycles, as the maximum mortality occurred during this period.These groves are mildly/highly disturbed by communities using forests for their timber and fuel wood requirements as well as cattle and goat grazing.Tree regeneration was apparently not limited, as was evidenced by high density of saplings.These human activities may have been responsible for a decrease in tree diversity in the smaller fragments.Large fragments that were less disturbed harbored species not present in small fragments.Om Prakash Tripathi Khongjee Rangdajied Reynald 2010生物多样性2010,18,2:1
