12Prosthetic joint infections-a clinico-microbiological perspective: Review article显示文摘Prosthetic joint infections(PJIs),although not very common,currently pose a very significant threat since they are associated with severe complications,high morbidity rates and substantial costs.PJIs are most commonly caused by Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase-negative staphylococci.The diagnosis of implant-associated infections is very challenging since no single routinely used laboratory or clinical test has been shown to demonstrate adequate results with respect to sensitivity,specificity and accuracy.In most cases,a sum of clinical signs and symptoms,histopathology,blood tests,radiography,bone scans and microbiological testing is considered to arrive at an accurate diagnosis.Treatment of PJIs is also very difficult since most of the infections are caused by biofilm-producing microorganisms which are significantly more resistant to the hosts natural defense mechanisms and antibiotic treatment.For successful management,a combination of both antibiotic and surgical treatment is most often required,and early diagnosis is of the utmost importance.Thus,a multidisciplinary approach is potentially the best option in dealing with PJI,and should include the involvement of microbiologists,orthopedic specialists,clinicians,pathologists and radiologists in order to improve decision-making processes and ensure overall success.The following review aims at briefly outlining the microbiology,diagnostic and treatment options,and preventive measures associated with such infections.Pravin K Nair Vivek G Bhat Michelle S Vaz 2014World Journal of Clinical Infectious Diseases2014,4,3:1

16Variable rate fertilizer application technology for nutrient management:A review显示文摘The efficient and effective application of fertilizers to crops is a major challenge.Conventionally,constant rate or equal dose of fertilizer is applied to each plant.Constant rate fertilizer application across entire field can result in over or under incorporation of nutrients.Fertilizer application is influenced by soil parameters as well as geographical variation in the field.The nutrient management depends on selection of nutrient,application rate and placement of nutrient at the optimal distance from the crop and soil depth.Variable rate technology(VRT)is an input application technology that allows for the application of inputs at a certain rate,time,and place based on soil properties and spatial variation in the field or plants.There are two approaches for implementing VRT,one is sensor based and another is map based.The sensor based approach;with suitable sensors,measures the soil and crop characteristics on-the-go calculating the amount of nutrients required per unit area/plant and micro controlling unit which uses suitable algorithms for controlling the flow of fertilizer with required amount of nutrient.In map based approach;Grid sampling and soil analysis are used to create a prescription map.According to the soil and crop conditions,the microcontroller regulates the desired application rate.The sensor-based VRT system includes a fertilizer tank,sensors,GPS,microcontroller,actuators,and other components,whereas the map-based system does not require an on-the-go sensor.Both approaches of VRT for fertilizer application in orchards and field crops are reviewed in this paper.The use of this advance technology surely increases the fertilizer use efficiency;improve crop yield and profitability with reduced environment impacts.Pranav Pramod Pawase Sachin Madhukar Nalawade Girishkumar Balasaheb Bhanage Avdhoot Ashok Walunj Pravin Bhaskar Kadam Anil G Durgude Mahesh R Patil 2023International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2023,16,4:0
17Unusual complication of amebic liver abscess: Hepatogastric fistula显示文摘Amebic liver abscess is a parasitic disease which is often encountered in tropical countries. A hepatogastric fistula secondary to an amebic liver abscess is a rare complication of this disease and there are only a handful of reported cases in literature. Here we present a case of an amebic liver abscess which was complicated with the development of a hepatogastric fistula. The patient presented with the Jaundice, pain and distension of abdomen. The Jaundice and pain improved partially after he had an episode of brownish black colored increase in frequency of stools for 5 to 6 d. Patient also had ascites and anemia. He was a chronic alcohol drinker. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy performed in view of the above findings. It showed a fistulous opening with bilious secretions along the lesser curvature of the stomach. On imaging multiple liver abscesses seen including one in sub capsular location. The patient was managed conservatively with antiamebic medications along with proton pump inhibitors. The pigtail drainage of the sub capsular abscess was done. The patient improved significantly. The repeat endoscopy performed after about two months showed reduction in fistula size.
