| 1 | Feasibility of bioleaching combined with Fenton oxidation to improve sewage sludge dewaterability显示文摘A novel joint method of bioleaching with Fenton oxidation was applied to condition sewage sludge. The specific resistance to filtration(SRF) and moisture of sludge cake(MSC) were adopted to evaluate the improvement of sludge dewaterability. After 2-day bioleaching, the sludge p H dropped to about 2.5 which satisfied the acidic condition for Fenton oxidation.Meanwhile, the SRF declined from 6.45 × 1010 to 2.07 × 1010s2/g, and MSC decreased from91.42% to 87.66%. The bioleached sludge was further conditioned with Fenton oxidation. From an economical point of view, the optimal dosages of H2O2 and Fe2+were 0.12 and 0.036 mol/L,respectively, and the optimal reaction time was 60 min. Under optimal conditions, SRF,volatile solids reduction, and MSC were 3.43 × 108s2/g, 36.93%, and 79.58%, respectively. The stability and settleability of sewage sludge were both improved significantly. Besides,the results indicated that bioleaching-Fenton oxidation was more efficient in dewatering the sewage sludge than traditional Fenton oxidation. | 4 | Sewage sludge disintegration by high-pressure homogenization: A sludge disintegration model显示文摘High-pressure homogenization (HPH) technology was applied as a pretreatment to disintegrate sewage sludge. The effects of homogenization pressure, homogenization cycle number, and total solid content on sludge disintegration were investigated. The sludge disintegration degree (DDCOD), protein concentration, and polysaccharide concentration increased with the increase of homogenization pressure and homogenization cycle number, and decreased with the increase of sludge total solid (TS) content. The maximum DDCOD of 43.94% was achieved at 80 MPa with four homogenization cycles for a 9.58 g/L TS sludge sample. A HPH sludge disintegration model of DDCOD= kNaPb was established by multivariable linear regression to quantify the effects of homogenization parameters. The homogenization cycle exponent a and homogenization pressure exponent b were 0.4763 and 0.7324 respectively, showing that the effect of homogenization pressure (P) was more significant than that of homogenization cycle number (N). The value of the rate constant k decreased with the increase of sludge total solid content. The specific energy consumption increased with the increment of sludge disintegration efficiency. | 5 | Calcium silicate bioactive ceramics induce osteogenesis through oncostatin M显示文摘Immune reactions are a key factor in determining the destiny of bone substitute materials after implantation.Macrophages,the most vital factor in the immune response affecting implants,are critical in bone formation,as well as bone biomaterial-mediated bone repair.Therefore,it is critical to design materials with osteoimmunomodulatory properties to reduce host-to-material inflammatory responses by inducing macrophage polarization.Our previous study showed that calcium silicate(CS)bioceramics could significantly promote osteogenesis.Herein,we further investigated the effects of CS on the behavior of macrophages and how macrophages regulated osteogenesis.Under CS extract stimulation,the macrophage phenotype was converted to the M2 extreme.Stimulation by a macrophage-conditioned medium that was pretreated by CS extracts resulted in a significant enhancement of osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs),indicating the important role of macrophage polarization in biomaterial-induced osteogenesis.Mechanistically,oncostatin M(OSM)in the macrophage-conditioned medium promoted osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs through the ERK1/2 and JAK3 pathways.This in vivo study further demonstrated that CS bioceramics could stimulate osteogenesis better thanβ-TCP implants by accelerating new bone formation at defective sites in the femur.These findings improve our understanding of immune modulation of CS bioactive ceramics and facilitate strategies to improve the in vitro osteogenesis capability of bone substitute materials. | Panyu Zhou Demeng Xia Zhexin Ni Tianle Ou Yang Wang Hongyue Zhang Lixia Mao Kaili Lin Shuogui Xu Jiaqiang Liu | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,3: | 5 |

| 9 | Use of donor-specific red blood cell transfusions for patients undergoing liver transplantation during the COVID-19 pandemic显示文摘Background:Increased risks have been found for patients undergoing liver transplantation due to the blood supply shortage following the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic.Hence,exploring a method to alleviate this dilemma is urgent.This phase I,nonrandomized,prospective trial aimed to evaluate the safety and feasibility of using donor-specific red blood cell transfusion(DRBCT)as an urgent measurement to alleviate the blood supply shortage in deceased donor liver transplantation(DDLT).Methods:The outcomes of 26 patients who received DRBCT and 37 patients in the control group who only received 3rd party packed red blood cells(pRBCs)transfusion between May 2020 and January 2021 were compared.Results:Patients receiving DRBCT did not develop transfusion-related complications,and the incidence of postoperative infection was similar to that in the control group(23.1%vs.18.9%,P=0.688).Because the patients received the red blood cells from organ donors,the median volume of intraoperative allogeneic red blood cell transfusion from blood bank was 4.0 U(IQR 1.1-8.0 U)in the DRBCT group,which is significantly lower than that(7.5 U,IQR 4.0-10.0 U)in the control group(P=0.018).The peak aspartate aminotransferase(AST)level was significantly lower in the DRBCT group than in the control group(P=0.008)and so were the AST levels in the first two days after the operation(P=0.006 and P=0.033).Conclusions:DRBCT is a safe and effective procedure to lower the need for blood supply and is associated with a reduction in AST levels after transplantation.DRBCT is beneficial to patients receiving life-saving transplantation without sufficient blood supply during the COVID-19 pandemic. | Tao Lv Xi Xu Jiulin Song Yifei Tan Li Jiang Jian Yang Diao He Lingxiang Kong Weiyi Zhang Panyu Chen Qiwen Xiang Tao Zhu Hong Wu Tianfu Wen Jiayin Yang | 2021 | Hepatobiliary Surgery and Nutrition2021,10,4: | 2 |
