1Controlling cyanobacterial blooms by managing nutrient ratio and limitation in a large hypereutrophic lake: Lake Taihu, China显示文摘Excessive nitrogen(N) and phosphorus(P) loading of aquatic ecosystems is a leading cause of eutrophication and harmful algal blooms worldwide, and reducing nutrient levels in water has been a primary management objective. To provide a rational protection strategy and predict future trends of eutrophication in eutrophic lakes, we need to understand the relationships between nutrient ratios and nutrient limitations. We conducted a set of outdoor bioassays at the shore of Lake Taihu. It showed that N only additions induced phytoplankton growth but adding only P did not. Combined N plus P additions promoted higher phytoplankton biomass than N only additions, which suggested that both N and P were deficient for maximum phytoplankton growth in this lake(TN:TP = 18.9). When nutrients are present at less than 7.75–13.95 mg/L TN and 0.41–0.74 mg/L TP, the deficiency of either N or P or both limits the growth of phytoplankton. N limitation then takes place when the TN:TP ratio is less than 21.5–24.7(TDN:TDP was 34.2–44.3), and P limitation occurs above this. Therefore, according to this ratio, controlling N when N limitation exists and controlling P when P deficiency is present will prevent algal blooms effectively in the short term. 2Sewage sludge disintegration by high-pressure homogenization: A sludge disintegration model显示文摘High-pressure homogenization (HPH) technology was applied as a pretreatment to disintegrate sewage sludge. The effects of homogenization pressure, homogenization cycle number, and total solid content on sludge disintegration were investigated. The sludge disintegration degree (DDCOD), protein concentration, and polysaccharide concentration increased with the increase of homogenization pressure and homogenization cycle number, and decreased with the increase of sludge total solid (TS) content. The maximum DDCOD of 43.94% was achieved at 80 MPa with four homogenization cycles for a 9.58 g/L TS sludge sample. A HPH sludge disintegration model of DDCOD= kNaPb was established by multivariable linear regression to quantify the effects of homogenization parameters. The homogenization cycle exponent a and homogenization pressure exponent b were 0.4763 and 0.7324 respectively, showing that the effect of homogenization pressure (P) was more significant than that of homogenization cycle number (N). The value of the rate constant k decreased with the increase of sludge total solid content. The specific energy consumption increased with the increment of sludge disintegration efficiency. 4Note on a new fundamental length scale l instead of the Newtonian constant G显示文摘The newly proposed entropic gravity suggests gravity as an emergent force rather than a fundamental one. In this approach,the Newtonian constant G does not play a fundamental role any more, and a new fundamental constant is required to replace itsposition. This request also arises from some philosophical considerations to contemplate the physical foundations for the unificationof theories. We here consider the suggestion to derive G from more fundamental quantities in the presence of a new fundamentallength scale l, which is suspected to originate from the structure of quantum space-time, and can be measured directly from Lorentz-violating observations. 7MR-seq:measuring a single cell's transcriptome repeatedly by RNA-seq显示文摘We described a novel single-cell RNA-seq technique called MR-seq(measure a single-cell transcriptome repeatedly),which permits statistically assessing the technical variation and identifying the differentially expressed genes between just two single cells by measuring each single cell twice. We demonstrated that MR-seq gave sensitivity and reproducibility similar to the standard single-cell RNA-seq and increased the positive predicate value. Application of MR-seq to early mouse embryos identified hundreds of candidate intra-embryonic heterogeneous genes among mouse 2-,4-and 8-cell stage embryos. 8Numerical simulation of granular silicon growth and silicon fines formation process in polysilicon fluidized bed显示文摘Operating conditions strongly affect the yield and quality of polysilicon in a polysilicon fluidized bed.In this study,a new model of polysilicon fluidized bed was established using the Euler-Euler model coupled with population balance model(PBM),which was combined with fluid flow,heat,and mass transfer models,while considering the scavenging effect of silicon fines.The effects of different operating conditions on the deposition and formation rates of silicon fines were investigated.Results show that the model can correctly describe the particle growth process in the fluidized bed of polysilicon.The silicon fines and the interphase velocity difference show'N'-and'M'-shaped distributions along the axial direction,respectively.The particle temperature and concentration near the wall are higher than those in the central region.The decomposition of silane in the bottom region of the bed is dominated by het-erogeneous deposition.The scavenging of silicon fines occurs in the dilute-phase region.The effects of operating conditions,i.e.inlet gas temperature,silane composition,and gas velocity,on the reactor performance were also explored comprehensively.Increasing the inlet gas composition and velocity enhances the formation rates of solid silicon and fines.Increasing the inlet gas temperature promotes the growth of solid silicon and inhibits the formation of silicon fines.High fluidization ratio,low inlet silane concentration,and high inlet gas temperature enhance the selectivity of silicon growth.Guangkai Gu Guoqiang Lv Wenhui Ma Shanlin Du Boqiang Fu 2024Particuology2024,87,4:0

10The Majorana neutrino mass matrix indicated by the current data显示文摘The Majorana neutrino mass matrix combines information from the neutrino masses and the leptonic mixing in the flavor basis. Its invariance under some transformation matrices indicates the existence of certain residual symmetry. We offer an intuitive display of the structure of the Majorana neutrino mass matrix, using the whole set of the oscillation data. The structure is revealed depending on the lightest neutrino mass. We find that there are three regions with distinct characteristics of structure. A group effect and the-τ exchange symmetry are observed. Six types of texture non-zeros are shown. 11Optimal design of gas distributor in fluidized bed for synthesis of silicone monomer显示文摘The structure of the gas distributor is closely related to the production efficiency of organosilicon monomers.To improve the production efficiency of organosilicon monomers,this study uses Eulerian-Eulerian two fluid model and proposes a design formula for the gas distributor to optimize the gas distributor.It is proposed that the pressure drop of the gas distributor,the velocity nonuniformity coefficient,the relative standard deviation of the solid holdup,and the solid particle dispersion coefficient are used to evaluate the performance of the gas distributor.The results show that the performance of the gas distributor is significantly improved when the opening ratioΦ=0.53%is optimized toΦ=0.18%,in which the relative standard deviation of the solid holdup is reduced by 22%,and the solid particle dispersion coefficient is reduced by 40%.On this basis,this article studies the influence of different arrangements of vent holes on gas-solid fluidization characteristics.The results show that the circular arrangement of vent holes is helpful to the mixing of gas and solid.Shanlin Du Guoqiang Lv Wenhui Ma Guangkai Gu Boqiang Fu 2023Particuology2023,,12:0
