| 1 | Mechanical activation of spike fosters SARS-CoV-2 viral infection显示文摘The outbreak of SARS-CoV-2(SARS2)has caused a global COVID-19 pandemic.The spike protein of SARS2(SARS2-S)recognizes host receptors,including ACE2,to initiate viral entry in a complex biomechanical environment.Here,we reveal that tensile force,generated by bending of the host cell membrane,strengthens spike recognition of ACE2 and accelerates the detachment of spike’s S1 subunit from the S2 subunit to rapidly prime the viral fusion machinery.Mechanistically,such mechano-activation is fulfilled by force-induced opening and rotation of spike’s receptor-binding domain to prolong the bond lifetime of spike/ACE2 binding,up to 4 times longer than that of SARS-S binding with ACE2 under 10 pN force application,and subsequently by force-accelerated S1/S2 detachment which is up to~103 times faster than that in the no-force condition.Interestingly,the SARS2-S D614G mutant,a more infectious variant,shows 3-time stronger force-dependent ACE2 binding and 35-time faster force-induced S1/S2 detachment.We also reveal that an anti-S1/S2 non-RBD-blocking antibody that was derived from convalescent COVID-19 patients with potent neutralizing capability can reduce S1/S2 detachment by 3×106 times under force.Our study sheds light on the mechano-chemistry of spike activation and on developing a non-RBD-blocking but S1/S2-locking therapeutic strategy to prevent SARS2 invasion. | Wei Hu Yong Zhang Panyu Fei Tongtong Zhang Danmei Yao Yufei Gao Jia Liu Hui Chen Qiao Lu Tenny Mudianto Xinrui Zhang Chuxuan Xiao Yang Ye Qiming Sun Jing Zhang Qi Xie Pei-Hui Wang Jun Wang Zhenhai Li Jizhong Lou Wei Chen | 2021 | Cell Research2021,31,10: | 2 |
| 2 | Use of donor-specific red blood cell transfusions for patients undergoing liver transplantation during the COVID-19 pandemic显示文摘Background:Increased risks have been found for patients undergoing liver transplantation due to the blood supply shortage following the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic.Hence,exploring a method to alleviate this dilemma is urgent.This phase I,nonrandomized,prospective trial aimed to evaluate the safety and feasibility of using donor-specific red blood cell transfusion(DRBCT)as an urgent measurement to alleviate the blood supply shortage in deceased donor liver transplantation(DDLT).Methods:The outcomes of 26 patients who received DRBCT and 37 patients in the control group who only received 3rd party packed red blood cells(pRBCs)transfusion between May 2020 and January 2021 were compared.Results:Patients receiving DRBCT did not develop transfusion-related complications,and the incidence of postoperative infection was similar to that in the control group(23.1%vs.18.9%,P=0.688).Because the patients received the red blood cells from organ donors,the median volume of intraoperative allogeneic red blood cell transfusion from blood bank was 4.0 U(IQR 1.1-8.0 U)in the DRBCT group,which is significantly lower than that(7.5 U,IQR 4.0-10.0 U)in the control group(P=0.018).The peak aspartate aminotransferase(AST)level was significantly lower in the DRBCT group than in the control group(P=0.008)and so were the AST levels in the first two days after the operation(P=0.006 and P=0.033).Conclusions:DRBCT is a safe and effective procedure to lower the need for blood supply and is associated with a reduction in AST levels after transplantation.DRBCT is beneficial to patients receiving life-saving transplantation without sufficient blood supply during the COVID-19 pandemic. | Tao Lv Xi Xu Jiulin Song Yifei Tan Li Jiang Jian Yang Diao He Lingxiang Kong Weiyi Zhang Panyu Chen Qiwen Xiang Tao Zhu Hong Wu Tianfu Wen Jiayin Yang | 2021 | Hepatobiliary Surgery and Nutrition2021,10,4: | 2 |

| 6 | An efficient approach for the treatment of radioactive waste perfluoropolyether lubricants via a synergistic effect of thermal catalysis and immobilization显示文摘Perfluoropolyether(PFPE)lubricants are a kind of high-molecular polymer with many excellent properties.However,the use of PFPEs in the nuclear industry can lead to partial decomposition and carrying radionuclides,resulting in a large amount of radioactive waste PFPE lubricants annually.Moreover,radioactive waste PFPE lubricants are difficult to be effectively treated due to their high stability,the risk of possible leakage of radionuclides,and hypertoxic fluorine-containing by-products.In this study,without any precedent,a strategy of Mn O_(2)-catalyzed decomposition and Na_(2)CO_(3)-immobilized conversion was proposed for PFPE lubricant decomposition and fluorine immobilization simultaneously based on the Lewis acid-base and oxygen vacancies concept.A high fluorine conversion efficiency of 95.4%was achieved.Meanwhile,the mechanism of decomposition suggested that Mn O_(2)mainly provided Lewis acid sites and attacked the(basic)fluorine or oxygen atoms in PFPE molecules.The decomposition of PFPE chains was proceed down and volatile fluorine-containing gas was released by partial electron transfer,intramolecular disproportionation reaction,and unzipping fashion.Subsequently,gas by-products could be further oxidized and then immobilized into fluoride salts by carbonate solid absorbents.Overall,this study provides a simple,safe,and potentially practical strategy for the harmless conversion of refractory fluorinated organic wastes,especially perfluoropolymers. | Xinhang Du Wenhua Tong Xinyu Zhou Jia Luo Yuqiu Liu Yabo Wang Panyu Li Yongkui Zhang | 2024 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2024,,2: | 0 |

| 8 | Intercomparison of multi-model ensemble-processing strategies within a consistent framework for climate projection in China显示文摘Climate change adaptation and relevant policy-making need reliable projections of future climate.Methods based on multi-model ensemble are generally considered as the most efficient way to achieve the goal.However,their efficiency varies and inter-comparison is a challenging task,as they use a variety of target variables,geographic regions,time periods,or model pools.Here,we construct and use a consistent framework to evaluate the performance of five ensemble-processing methods,i.e.,multimodel ensemble mean(MME),rank-based weighting(RANK),reliability ensemble averaging(REA),climate model weighting by independence and performance(ClimWIP),and Bayesian model averaging(BMA).We investigate the annual mean temperature(Tav)and total precipitation(Prcptot)changes(relative to 1995–2014)over China and its seven subregions at 1.5 and 2℃warming levels(relative to pre-industrial).All ensemble-processing methods perform better than MME,and achieve generally consistent results in terms of median values.But they show different results in terms of inter-model spread,served as a measure of uncertainty,and signal-to-noise ratio(SNR).ClimWIP is the most optimal method with its good performance in simulating current climate and in providing credible future projections.The uncertainty,measured by the range of 10th–90th percentiles,is reduced by about 30%for Tav,and 15%for Prcptot in China,with a certain variation among subregions.Based on ClimWIP,and averaged over whole China under 1.5/2℃global warming levels,Tav increases by about 1.1/1.8℃(relative to 1995–2014),while Prcptot increases by about 5.4%/11.2%,respectively.Reliability of projections is found dependent on investigated regions and indices.The projection for Tav is credible across all regions,as its SNR is generally larger than 2,while the SNR is lower than 1 for Prcptot over most regions under 1.5℃warming.The largest warming is found in northeastern China,with increase of 1.3(0.6–1.7)/2.0(1.4–2.6)℃(ensemble’s median and range of the 10th–90th percentiles)under 1.5/2℃warming,followed by northern and northwestern China.The smallest but the most robust warming is in southwestern China,with values exceeding 0.9(0.6–1.1)/1.5(1.1–1.7)℃.The most robust projection and largest increase is achieved in northwestern China for Prcptot,with increase of 9.1%(–1.6–24.7%)/17.9%(0.5–36.4%)under 1.5/2℃warming.Followed by northern China,where the increase is 6.0%(–2.6–17.8%)/11.8%(2.4–25.1%),respectively.The precipitation projection is of large uncertainty in southwestern China,even with uncertain sign of variation.For the additional half-degree warming,Tav increases more than 0.5℃throughout China.Almost all regions witness an increase of Prcptot,with the largest increase in northwestern China. | Huanhuan ZHU Zhihong JIANG Laurent LI Wei LI Sheng JIANG Panyu ZHOU Weihao ZHAO Tong LI | 2023 | Science China Earth Sciences2023,66,9: | 0 |

| 10 | Efficient H_(2)O_(2)Electrosynthesis and Its Electro-Fenton Application for Refractory Organics Degradation显示文摘Hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2))in situ electrosynthesis by O_(2)reduction reaction is a promising alternative to the conventional Fenton treatment of refractory wastewater.However,O_(2)mass transfer limitation,cathodic catalyst selectivity,and electron transfer in O_(2)reduction remain major engineering obstacles.Here,we have proposed a systematic solution for efficient H_(2)O_(2)generation and its electro-Fenton(EF)application for refractory organic degradation based on the fabrication of a novel ZrO_(2)/CMK-3/PTFE cathode,in which polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE)acted as a hydrophobic modifier to strengthen the O_(2)mass transfer,ZrO_(2)was adopted as a hydrophilic modifier to enhance the electron transfer of O_(2)reduction,and mesoporous carbon CMK-3 was utilized as a catalyst substrate to provide catalytic active sites.Moreover,feasible mass transfer of O_(2)from the hydrophobic to the hydrophilic layer was designed to increase the contact between O_(2)and the reaction interface.The H_(2)O_(2)yield of the ZrO_(2)/CMK-3/PTFE cathode was significantly improved by approximately 7.56 times compared to that of the co nventional gas diffusion cathode under the same conditions.The H_(2)O_(2)generation rate and Faraday efficiency reached125.98 mg·cm^(-2)·h^(-1)(normalized to 5674.04 mmol·g^(-1)·h^(-1)by catalyst loading)and 78.24%at-1.3 V versus standard hydrogen electrode(current density of-252 mA·cm^(-2)),respectively.The high H_(2)O_(2)yield ensured that sufficient OH was produced for excellent EF performance,resulting in a degradation efficiency of over 96%for refractory organics.This study offers a novel engineering solution for the efficient treatment of refractory wastewater using EF technology based on in situ high-yield H_(2)O_(2)electrosynthesis. | Lei Li Jing Bai Panyu Jiang Yan Zhang Tingsheng Zhou Jiachen Wang Changhui Zhou Jinhua Li Baoxue Zhou | 2023 | Engineering2023,,11: | 0 |
