1A new bone repair scaffold combined with chitosan/ hydroxyapatite and sustained releasing icariin显示文摘Icariin, a plant-derived flavonol glycoside, has been proved as an osteoinductive agent for bone tissue engineering. A new bone repair scaffold was generated by thorough mixing of icariin and chitosan/ hydroxyapatite (icariin-CS/HA) using freeze-drying technigue. Characteristics of morphology, mechanical properties, biocompatibility, drug release behavior and bone repair abilities in vivo were evaluated. The results show that drug loading process of icariin did not affect physical structure of CS/HA composite significantly but decreased mechanical properies of CS/HA composite, which happened with a high dosage; icariin-CS/HA had favorable cell compatibility and promoted osteogenic differentiation of hBMSCs; the controlled release of icariin was satisfactory and the release retained after 90 d in vitro. In addition, icariin-CS/HA scaffolds had favorable osteoconduction and osteoinduction in vivo, and could fill bone defect sites and stimulate newborn bone tissues formation at early stage. 2Study on macro and micro shear strength of continuously graded and gap-graded sand显示文摘The particle gradation of sand has a significant influence on its shear strength,yet the similarities and differences between the effects of continuous and gap grading have yet to be fully explored.In this study,the discrete element method(DEM)was used to simulate biaxial tests on granular samples that were both continuously graded and gap-graded.The macroscopic analysis revealed that the shear strength of continuously graded sands increases initially and then decreases as the uniformity of particle size distribution decreases.On the other hand,the lack of medium particles in gap-graded sands amplifies the difference in particle size between coarse and fine particles,leading to a decrease in shear strength.Microscopically,both continuous and gap gradings affect the internal packing structure of the particle assembly,which consequently affects particle stress distributions,contact forces,coordination numbers,stress-induced anisotropies,and contact force networks,thus having an impact on the macroscopic shear strength.The global uniformity of particle size distribution was unidirectionally affected by continuous grading,while gap grading had a locally bidirectional influence.These findings provide a better understanding of the effects of particle grading on the macroscopic shear strength of sands.Peiran Zhao Songyu Liu Kai Wu 2024Particuology2024,86,3:0

4On the variability of vertical eddy heat flux in the upper ocean显示文摘Ocean eddies produce strong vertical heat flux(VHF)in the upper ocean,exerting profound influences on the climate and ecosystem.Currently,mooring array provides a standard way to estimate the eddy-induced VHF(EVHF)based on the adiabatic potential density equation.Apart from the validity of adiabatic assumption,it remains unclear to what extent the estimated EVHF at a single location within a limited time period is representative of its climatological mean value.In this study,we analyzed the above issue by systematically evaluating the variability of EVHF simulated by a 1-km ocean model configured over the Kuroshio Extension.It is found that the EVHF at a single location exhibits pronounced variability.Even averaged over one year that is comparable to the current maintenance capacity of mooring array,the EVHF still deviates significantly from its climatological mean value.For more than 49%of locations in our computational domain(31°-40°N,149°-166°E),the discrepancy between the one-year mean EVHF and its climatological mean value at the peaking depth is larger than the climatological mean itself.The mesoscale eddies play a dominant role in the variability of EVHF but contribute little to the climatological mean EVHF;the opposite is true for submesoscale eddies.Our findings indicate that nested mooring array allowing for isolating the effects of submesoscale eddies will be useful to obtain climatological mean EVHF.Tianshi Du Peiran Yang Zhao Jing 2022Acta Oceanologica Sinica2022,41,10:0
5Novel empirical model for predicting residual flexural capacity of corroded steel reinforced concrete beam显示文摘In this study,a total of 177 flexural experimental tests of corroded reinforced concrete(CRC)beams were collected from the published literature.The database of flexural capacity of CRC beam was established by using unified and standardized experimental data.Through this database,the effects of various parameters on the flexural capacity of CRC beams were discussed,including beam width,the effective height of beam section,ratio of strength between longitudinal reinforcement and concrete,concrete compressive strength,and longitudinal reinforcement corrosion ratio.The results indicate that the corrosion of longitudinal reinforcement has the greatest effect on the residual flexural capacity of CRC beams,while other parameters have much less effect.In addition,six available empirical models for calculating the residual flexural strength of CRC beams were also collected and compared with each other based on the established database.It indicates that though five of six existing empirical models underestimate the flexural capacity of CRC beams,there is one model overestimating the flexural capacity.Finally,a newly developed empirical model is proposed to provide accurate and effective predictions in a large range of corrosion ratio for safety assessment of flexural failure of CRC beams confirmed by the comparisons.Zhao-Hui LU Hong-Jun WANG Fulin QU Yan-Gang ZHAO Peiran LI Wengui LI 2020Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering2020,14,4:0
