1Design and Implementation of a 3D Ocean Virtual Reality and Visualization Engine显示文摘In this study,a 3D virtual reality and visualization engine for rendering the ocean, named VV-Ocean,is designed for marine applications. The design goals of VV-Ocean aim at high fidelity simulation of ocean environment, visualization of massive and multidimensional marine data, and imitation of marine lives.VV-Ocean is composed of five modules,i.e.memory management module, resources management module, scene management module, rendering process management module and interaction management module. There are three core functions in VV-Ocean:reconstructing vivid virtual ocean scenes, visualizing real data dynamically in real time, imitating and simulating marine lives intuitively.Based on VV-Ocean,we establish a sea-land integration platform which can reproduce drifting and diffusion processes of oil spilling from sea bottom to surface.Environment factors such as ocean current and wind field have been considered in this simulation. On this platform oil spilling process can be abstracted as movements of abundant oil particles. The result shows that oil particles blend with water well and the platform meets the requirement for real-time and interactive rendering.VV-Ocean can be widely used in ocean applications such as demonstrating marine operations, facilitating maritime communications, developing ocean games, reducing marine hazards, forecasting the weather over oceans, serving marine tourism, and so on.Finally, further technological improvements of VV-Ocean are discussed.CHEN Ge LI Bo TIAN Fenglin JI Pengbo LI Wenqing 2012Journal of Ocean University of China2012,11,4:10

4GPU Accelerated Marine Data Visualization Method显示文摘The study of marine data visualization is of great value. Marine data, due to its large scale, random variation and multiresolution in nature, are hard to be visualized and analyzed. Nowadays, constructing an ocean model and visualizing model results have become some of the most important research topics of ‘Digital Ocean'. In this paper, a spherical ray casting method is developed to improve the traditional ray-casting algorithm and to make efficient use of GPUs. Aiming at the ocean current data, a 3D view-dependent line integral convolution method is used, in which the spatial frequency is adapted according to the distance from a camera. The study is based on a 3D virtual reality and visualization engine, namely the VV-Ocean. Some interactive operations are also provided to highlight the interesting structures and the characteristics of volumetric data. Finally, the marine data gathered in the East China Sea are displayed and analyzed. The results show that the method meets the requirements of real-time and interactive rendering.LI Bo CHEN Ge TIAN Fenglin SHAO Baomin JI Pengbo 2014Journal of Ocean University of China2014,13,6:1
5Sketch simplification guided by complex agglomeration显示文摘We propose a novel method for vector sketch simplification based on the simplification of the geometric structure that is extracted from the input vector graph, which can be referred to as a base complex.Unlike the sets of strokes, which are treated in the existing approaches, a base complex is considered to be a collection of various geometric primitives. Guided by the shape similarity metrics that are defined for the base complex, an agglomeration procedure is proposed to simplify the base complex by iteratively merging a pair of geometric primitives that exhibit the minimum cost into a new one. This simplified base complex is finally converted into a simplified vector graph. Our algorithm is computationally efficient and is able to retain a large amount of useful shape information from the original vector graph, thereby achieving a tradeoff between efficiency and geometric fidelity. Furthermore, the level of simplification of the input vector graph can be easily controlled using a single threshold in our method. We make comparisons with some existing methods using the datasets that have been provided in the corresponding studies as well as using different styles of sketches drawn by artists. Thus, our experiments demonstrate the computational efficiency of our method and its capability for producing the desirable results.Yue LIU Xuemei LI Pengbo BO Xifeng GAO 2019Science China(Information Sciences)2019,62,5:0
6An efficient algorithm for approximate Voronoi diagram construction on triangulated surfaces显示文摘Voronoi diagrams on triangulated surfaces based on the geodesic metric play a key role in many applications of computer graphics.Previous methods of constructing such Voronoi diagrams generally depended on having an exact geodesic metric. However, exact geodesic computation is time-consuming and has high memory usage, limiting wider application of geodesic Voronoi diagrams(GVDs).In order to overcome this issue, instead of using exact methods,we reformulate a graph method based on Steiner point insertion,as an effective way to obtain geodesic distances.Further, since a bisector comprises hyperbolic and line segments,we utilize Apollonius diagrams to encode complicated structures, enabling Voronoi diagrams to encode a medial-axis surface for a dense set of boundary samples.Based on these strategies,we present an approximation algorithm for efficient Voronoi diagram construction on triangulated surfaces. We also suggest a measure for evaluating similarity of our results to the exact GVD.Although our GVD results are constructed using approximate geodesic distances,we can get GVD results similar to exact results by inserting Steiner points on triangle edges.Experimental results on many 3D models indicate the improved speed and memory requirements compared to previous leading methods.Wenlong Meng Pengbo Bo Xiaodong Zhang Jixiang Hong Shiqing Xin Changhe Tu 2023Computational Visual Media2023,9,3:0
