Optimal City Size in China:An Extended Empirical Study from the Perspective of Energy Consumption显示文摘The optimal city size has always been a heated topic for debate in China. Given the background of global warming and fossil fuel crisis, it is argued that the issue should be considered from not only the perspective of economic benefits of a city but should also consider the energy consumption efficiency of the city. On the basis of the energy consumption data of 286 cities at the prefectural level and above in Chinese mainland except Lasa, which are obtained from the EU Emission Database for Global Atmospheric Research(EDGAR), this paper carries out an empirical analysis on the relationship between the city size and the energy consumption efficiency of the city. Then based on this analysis, the paper further examines the economic benefits, social benefits, and environment quality of cities in different scales, and the findings reveal that large cities with 2 – 5 million population have the highest efficiency in all these aspects. | Zhang Jie Xie Yang Qian Fang(译) Mao Qizhi(校) | 2017 | China City Planning Review2017,26,2: | 1
城市快递共同配送的演进动力与网络组织研究显示文摘In a context where express delivery service is indispensable in urban production and life in China, urban express joint distribution will help reduce the negative impact of logistics activities on urban traffic and environment, and eventually promote the coordinated development of the express delivery industry and the city. This paper summarizes the background of urban express joint distribution based on its four driving forces:saving resources, green development, traffic avoidance, and public service. Then it establishes a network structure model of urban express joint distribution based on systems thinking, elaborates the functional orientations of the four layers in the model–the distribution layer, the feeder transport layer, the terminal station layer, and the collection and delivery layer, and discusses the implementation ideas of joint distribution at all layers. Finally,it puts forward four suggestions for promoting the joint distribution:improving inter-departmental coordination mechanism, maintaining a diversified distribution pattern, promoting in-depth cooperation among companies, and practicing a high-tech development path. | 徐俊杰 曹曦 Li Min(Translated) Mao Qizhi(Proofread) | 2021 | China City Planning Review2021,30,2: | 0

建成环境对城市老年居民心理健康的影响机制——基于客观和感知的对比视角显示文摘The basic attributes of urban built environment are important factors affecting mental state of older adults.Observation and perception are expressions of built environment from objective and subjective perspectives, and their comprehensive effects on older adults’ mental health have not yet been explored and verified.Combined with the ecological model of active living, the social-ecological model for health and environmental psychology for health, this paper took Dalian as an example and integrated multi-source spatio-temporal data,to compare and examine the internal influence mechanism of built environment on older adults’ mental health from objective and perceptual perspectives through structural equation model. The model was further validated by excluding the samples of residential self-selection.The study showed that the proximity and aggregation degree of basic service facilities, such as supermarkets, restaurants, and barbershops, affected older adults’ mental health through direct and perceived mediating paths,in which the high degree of aggregation had a negative effect on the mental health of older adults through perceived paths of noise, insecurity, and poor environmental sanitation;the density of walking path and the local integration, depth, and connectivity of vehicle path had limited interventions on mentality dimension of older adults;the diversity of leisure, landscape, and exercise facilities in community positively affected older adults’ mental health through the direct and perceived mediating paths;underground parking in community and lifts in high-rise buildings had a more positive impact on older adults’ mental health than ground parking and stairs in multi-story buildings.Overall, compared with objective built environment, perceived built environment had a mediating effect and played a more significant role in the mental health of older adults. | 岳亚飞 杨东峰 徐丹 Liu Jinxin(Translated) Mao Qizhi(Proofread) | 2022 | China City Planning Review2022,31,3: | 0

Spirit of Mountain Cities: Recalling Mr.Huang Guangyu's Theories About Eco-Planning of Mountain Cities显示文摘This paper reviews Mr. Huang Guangyu's major ideas on the eco-planning of mountain cities. The primary principle is that the spatial structure of a mountain city must adapt to its eco-environmental characteristics. The primary foundation is evaluating the natural eco-environments' suitability of a mountain city and integrating urban development with the spatio-temporal pattern of ecological resources. The non-construction land has to be scientifically planned because it is closely related to the ecological security of a mountain city and affects the quality of urban settlements. The working methodology is a multi-disciplinary collaboration and integration, as well as all-round thinking through a combination of theoretical research and practice. These theories have been put into effect in the planning projects by Huang and have had far-reaching impact. In brief, they can be regarded as the spirit of mountain cities. | Yan Shuiyu Yang Liu Xing Zhong Li Min(译) Mao Qizhi(校) | 2017 | China City Planning Review2017,26,3: | 0
Improving the System of Historic and Cultural Heritage Protection Through Social Participation: Based on the Practice of Guangdong显示文摘The early historic and cultural heritage protection is regarded as the responsibility of the government, and is promoted by the government, protection experts, planners, and a few other elites. These bodies constitute a top-down historic and cultural heritage protection system based on their cultural consciousness. In the social transition of market-oriented reform and property right reform, due to the profit-driven demands of individuals, enterprise, and development-oriented government, the protection system was gradually differentiated and a lot of 'protective development' practices emerged. With the advent of the post-industrial era, based on the need for cultural identity, the historic and cultural heritage protection began to get attention from third-party organizations, community residents, and even the public, who launched 'bottom-up' social participation. Therefore, this paper, based on social governance theory, takes the development of civil cultural conservation organizations in Guangdong as the research object, explores how to construct a society participation network in Guangdong, and discusses the influence and limitation of the network in promoting the historic and cultural heritage protection. The paper puts forward the idea of improving the system of historic and cultural heritage protection through social participation. | Yuan Qifeng Cai Tianshu Li Caige(译) Mao Qizhi(校) | 2019 | China City Planning Review2019,28,1: | 0
Examining the Impacts of Land Supply on Housing Price in Chinese Mega Cities: An Analysis of Prefecture-Level Cities in China from 2009 to 2016显示文摘Residential land supply is considered a powerful tool for intervening in the housing market in China. There has been continuous debate on the correlation between residential land supply and housing prices. Based on 35 Chinese prefecture-level cities’ panel data from 2009 to 2016, this study investigates the spatio-temporal characteristics of residential land supply and housing prices, and explores their relationship applying Generalized Moment Models(GMM). The results show that(1) there is an overall downward trend in residential land supply and a significant rise in housing prices in most Chinese mega cities from 2009 to 2016, and the extent varies in four economic-geographical regions;(2) the decrease in the quantity of residential land supply contributes to the rise in housing prices to some degree, but there is no significant correlation between the land supply structure and housing prices. With the integration of socio-economic factors, the quantitative results validate the previous theoretical models of the casual correlation between residential land supply and housing prices. It further depicts the constraint of insufficient residential land supply in Chinese mega cities and claims it to be a contributor of rising housing prices. The paper concludes with implications for housing strategies and future studies. | Wu Yaxin Tian Li Ling Yingkai Liu Jinxin(译) Mao Qizhi(校) | 2021 | China City Planning Review2021,30,3: | 0

城市住区公共服务设施与老年生活圈匹配规划研究显示文摘China entered an aging society in 1999 based on the United Nations’definition that an aging society is one where the population aged sixty and above accounts for more than 10 percent of the total population.Accordingly,community-based home care for older people has become a social trend and the main policy orientation of the urban elderly care service system. How to meet older people’s needs for living and caring services in urban residential areas is a major challenge for China to conduct urban redevelopment. This paper analyzes the supply-demand match of age-friendly public service facilities in communities based on the daily needs for public service facilities and the living circle characteristics of older people. Then it conducts an empirical study on typical residential communities in Suzhou and puts forward a hierarchical allocation strategy and improvement suggestions for age-friendly public service facilities in the self-sufficient community living circle, the near neighborhood living circle, and the urban expansion living circle. In addition,it proposes measures for improving the allocation of public service facilities in case communities in Suzhou through urban renewal. | 周国艳 夏志楠 Li Min(Translated) Mao Qizhi(Proofread) | 2023 | China City Planning Review2023,32,2: | 0
