| 1 | Liver cancer incidence and mortality in China: Temporal trends and projections to 2030显示文摘Objective: Liver cancer is one of the most common cancers and major cause of cancer deaths in China,which accounts for over 50% of new cases and deaths worldwide.The systematic liver cancer statistics including of projection through 2030 could provide valuable information for prevention and control strategies in China,and experience for other countries.Methods: The burden of liver cancer in China in 2014 was estimated using 339 cancer registries' data selected from Chinese National Cancer Center(NCC).Incident cases of 22 cancer registries were applied for temporal trends from 2000 to 2014.The burden of liver cancer through 2030 was projected using age-period-cohort model.Results: About 364,800 new cases of liver cancer(268,900 males and 95,900 females) occurred in China,and about 318,800 liver cancer deaths(233,500 males and 85,300 females) in 2014.Western regions of China had the highest incidence and mortality rates.Incidence and mortality rates decreased by about 2.3% and 2.6% per year during the period of 2000-2014,respectively,and would decrease by more than 44% between 2014 and 2030 in China.The young generation,particularly for those aged under 40 years,showed a faster down trend.Conclusions: Based on the analysis,incidence and mortality rates of liver cancer are expected to decrease through 2030,but the burden of liver cancer is still serious in China,especially in rural and western areas.Most cases of liver cancer in China can be prevented through vaccination and more prevention efforts should be focused on high risk groups. | Rongshou Zheng Chunfeng Qu Siwei Zhang Hongmei Zeng Kexin Sun Xiuying Gu Changfa Xia Zhixun Yang He Li Wenqiang Wei Wanqing Chen Jie He | 2018 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2018,30,6: | 132 |

| 3 | Does Helicobacter pylori infection play a role in iron deficiency anemia? | 9 | XingNaoJing injections protect against cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury and alleviate blood-brain barrier disruption in rats, through an underlying mechanism of NLRP3 inflammasomes suppression显示文摘The aim of this study was to explore the neuroprotective effect and mechanism of XingNaoJing injections(XNJ) on cerebral ischemia injury and blood-brain barrier(BBB) disruption. Middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO) method was applicated to establish the model of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion(I/R) injury in rats. BBB permeability after I/R injury was assessed with the leaking amount of Evans Blue and the expression of occludin and ZO-1. The expression of NOD-like receptor family, pyrin domain containing(NLRP3) was checked to explore the inhibition of inflammation by XNJ. The results showed that XNJ could significantly increase the survival percent, decrease the infarct area and ameliorate neurological deficits and brain damage after I/R injury. Leaking amount of Evans Blue was reduced by XNJ, and the expression of tight junction protein, occludin and ZO-1 was also up-regulated by XNJ, which showed a role of protection on BBB disruption. The expression of NLRP3 was inhibited after exposure of XNJ, which was associated with inhibition of the inflammatory response. | 10 | Chemical characterization of size-resolved aerosols in four seasons and hazy days in the megacity Beijing of China显示文摘Size-resolved aerosol samples were collected by MOUDI in four seasons in 2007 in Beijing. The PM10 and PM1.8mass concentrations were 166.0 ± 120.5 and 91.6 ± 69.7 μg/m^3, respectively,throughout the measurement, with seasonal variation: nearly two times higher in autumn than in summer and spring. Serious fine particle pollution occurred in winter with the PM1.8/PM10 ratio of 0.63, which was higher than other seasons. The size distribution of PM showed obvious seasonal and diurnal variation, with a smaller fine mode peak in spring and in the daytime. OM(organic matter = 1.6 × OC(organic carbon)) and SIA(secondary inorganic aerosol) were major components of fine particles, while OM, SIA and Ca_2+were major components in coarse particles. Moreover, secondary components, mainly SOA(secondary organic aerosol) and SIA,accounted for 46%–96% of each size bin in fine particles, which meant that secondary pollution existed all year. Sulfates and nitrates, primarily in the form of(NH_4)_2SO_4, NH_4NO_3, Ca SO_4, Na_2SO_4 and K_2SO_4, calculated by the model ISORROPIA II, were major components of the solid phase in fine particles. The PM concentration and size distribution were similar in the four seasons on non-haze days, while large differences occurred on haze days, which indicated seasonal variation of PM concentration and size distribution were dominated by haze days. Peripheral blood DC groups used LAKcells as the effector cells and BEL-7402 as target cells, whilecord blood DC groups used CTL induced by tumor antigentwice pulsed DC as effector cells and BEL-7402 as targetcells, additional peripheral blood DC and cord blood DC areadded to observe its stimulating activities to effector cells.The effector's cytotoxicity to tumor cells were detected withneutral red colorimetric assay at two effector/target ratios of5:1 and 10: 1.RESULTS: Peripheral blood DC and cord blood DC highlyexpressed HLA-ABC, HLA-DR, HLA-DQ, CD54 and S-100protein. The stimulating activities to lymphocyteproliferation were compared between experimental groups(DC added) and control group (no DC added). A value was0.59517 ± 0.005 in control group. The stimulating activitieswere higher in experimental groups than in control group ( P< 0.01 ), which were increased when the DC concentrationwas enlarged ( P < 0.01 ). Two differently derived DCs hadthe same phenotypes and similar stimulating activities ( P >0.05). In peripheral blood DC groups, the cytotoxicity (x ±s) of the LD groups (experimental groups) and L groups(control group) was 58.16% ± 2.03% (5: 1), 46.18% ±2.25% (10:l) and 38.13% ± 1.29% (5: 1) and 65.40% ±1.56% (10: 1), respectively; in cord blood DC groups, TDgroups (experimental groups ) and T groups (controlgroups) were 69.71% ± 2.33% (5: 1 ), 77.64% ± 1.94% ( 10:1) a. nd 56.89% ± 1.82% (5:1) and 60.99% ± 1.42% (10:1),respectively. The cytotoxicity activities were enhanced withincreased effector/target ratio ( P < 0.01 ). | 13 | Circular RNA PIP5K1A promotes colon cancer development through inhibiting mi R-1273a显示文摘BACKGROUND Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are considered to be highly stable due to the closed structure, which are predominately correlated with the development and progression of a wide variety of cancers. Colon cancer is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. A recent study demonstrated the upregulated expression of circPIP5K1A in non-small cell lung cancer. However, few studies have investigated the relationship between circ_0014130 level and colon cancer. Therefore, elucidating the underlying mechanisms of circPIP5K1A’s role may help with the identification of novel diagnostic and therapeutic targets for colon cancer. AIM To investigate the status of circPIP5K1A in colon cancers and its effects on the modulation of cancer development. METHODS The expression level of circPIP5K1A in tissue and serum samples from colon cancer patients, as well as human colonic cancer cell lines was detected by realtime quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. Following the transfection of specifically synthesized small interfering RNA (siRNA) into colon cell lines, we used Hoechst staining assay to measure the ratio of cell death in the absence of circPIP5K1A. Moreover, we also used the Transwell assay to assess the migratory function of colon cells overexpressing circPIP5K1A. Additionally, we employed a series of bioinformatics prediction programs to predict the potential of circPIP5K1A-targeted miRNAs and mRNAs. The miR-1273a vector was constructed, and then transfected with or without circPIP5K1A vector into colon cancer cells. Afterwards, the expression of activator protein 1 (AP-1), interferon regulating factor 4 (IRF-4), caudal type homeobox 2 (CDX-2), and zinc finger of the cerebellum 1 (Zic-1) was detected by western blotting. RESULTS CircPIP5K1A was significantly upregulated in colon cancer tissue relative to their adjacent normal tissues. Knockdown of circPIP5K1A in colon cancer cells impaired cell viability and suppressed cell invasion and migration, while enforced expression of circPIP5K1A exhibited the opposite effects on cell migration. Bioinformatics prediction program predicted that the association of circPIP5K1A with miR-1273a, as well as AP-1, IRF-4, CDX-2, and Zic-1. Subsequent studies showed that overexpression of circPIP5K1A augmented the expression of AP-1 but attenuated the expression of IRF-4, CDX-2, and Zic-1. Reciprocally, overexpression of miR-1273a abrogated the oncogenic function of circPIP5K1A in colon cancers. | 15 | Enhancing photocatalytic performance by constructing ultrafine TiO2 nanorods/g-C3N4 nanosheets heterojunction for water treatment显示文摘Photocatalysis is considered to be a clean, green and efficient method to purify water. In this report, we first developed a highly efficient ultrafine TiO_2 nanorods/g-C3 N4 nanosheets(TiO_2 NR/CN NS) composites via a simple hydrothermal method. Tiny TiO_2 nanorods(diameter:~1.5 nm and length:~8.3 nm) were first loaded in situ on the CN NS by adding graphitic carbon nitride(g-C3 N4) to the reaction solution.The TiO_2 NR/CN NS composites present high charge separation efficiency and broader light absorbance than P25 TiO_2. Furthermore, we illustrate that the Ti0_2 NR/CN NS catalyst possesses high performance for the photocatalytic degradation of the common and stubborn pollutants in water, such as the rhodamine B(RhB) dye and phenol. Under visible light(λ> 420 nm) irradiation, the apparent rate of the TiO_2 NR/CN NR is 172 and 41 times higher than that of the P25 TiO_2 and TiO_2 NR, respectively.Additionally, we speculated that the heterojunction formed between TiO_2 NR and CN NS, which is the basis for the experiments we have designed and the corresponding results. | 16 | Prognostic significance of preoperative fibrinogen in patients with colon cancer显示文摘AIM:To investigate the prognostic significance of preoperative fibrinogen levels in colon cancer patients.METHODS:A total of 255 colon cancer patients treated at the Affiliated Tumor Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from June 1st 2005 to June 1st 2008 were enrolled in the study.All patients received radical surgery as their primary treatment method.Preoperative fibrinogen was detected by the Clauss method,and all patients were followed up after surgery.Preoperative fibrinogen measurements were correlated with a number of clinicopathological parameters using the Student t test and analysis of variance.Survival analyses were performed by the Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regression modeling to measure 5-year disease-free survival(DFS)and overall survival(OS).RESULTS:The mean preoperative fibrinogen concentration of all colon cancer patients was 3.17±0.88 g/L.Statistically significant differences were found between preoperative fibrinogen levels and the clinicopathological parameters of age,smoking status,tumor size,tumor location,tumor-node-metastasis(TNM)stage,modified Glasgow prognostic scores(mGPS),white blood cell(WBC)count,neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio(NLR),platelet-lymphocyte ratio(PLR),and carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA)levels.Univariate survival analysis showed that TNM stage,tumor cell differentiation grade,vascular invasion,mGPS score,preoperative fibrinogen,WBC,NLR,PLR and CEA all correlated with both OS and DFS.Alpha-fetoprotein(AFP)and body mass index correlated only with OS.Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that both OS and DFS of the total cohort,as well as of the stageⅡandⅢpatients,were higher in the hypofibrinogen group compared to the hyperfibrinogen group(all P<0.05).In contrast,there was no significant difference between OS and DFS in stageⅠpatients with low or high fibrinogen levels.Cox regression analysis indicated preoperative fibrinogen levels,TNM stage,mGPS score,CEA,and AFP levels correlated with both OS and DFS.CONCLUSION:Preoperative fibrinogen levels can serve as an independent prognostic marker to evaluate patient response to colon cancer treatment. | Zhen-Qiang Sun Xiao-Na Han Hai-Jiang Wang Yong Tang Ze-Liang Zhao Yan-Li Qu Rui-Wei Xu Yan-Yan Liu Xian-Bo Yu | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,26: | 16 |

| 20 | Chemical screen identifies a geroprotective role of quercetin in premature aging显示文摘Aging increases the risk of various diseases. The main goal of aging research is to find therapies that attenuate aging and alleviate aging-related diseases. In this study, we screened a natural product library for geroprotective compounds using Werner syndrome (WS) human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs), a premature aging model that we recently established. Ten candidate compounds were identified and quercetin was investigated in detail due to its leading effects. Mechanistic studies revealed that quercetin alleviated senescence via the enhancement of cell proliferation and restoration of heterochromatin architecture in WS hMSCs. RNA-sequencing analysis revealed the transcriptional commonalities and differences in the geroprotective effects by quercetin and Vitamin C. Besides WS hMSCs, quercetin also attenuated cellular senescence in Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS) and physiological-aging hMSCs.
