Effect of preoperative biliary drainage on outcome of classical pancreaticoduodenectomy显示文摘AIM: To investigate the role of preoperative biliary drainage (PBD) in the outcome of classical pancreaticodu odenectomy. METHODS: A 10-year retrospective data analysis was performed on patients (n = 48) undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy from March 1994 to March 2004 in department of surgery at SMS medical college, Jaipur, India. Demographic variables, details of preoperative stenting, operative procedure and post operative complications were noted. RESULTS: Preoperative biliary drainage was performed in 21 patients (43.5%). The incidence of septic complications was significantly higher in patients with biliary stent placement (P < 0.05, 0 vs 4). This group of patients also had a significantly higher minor biliary leak rate. Mortality and hospital stay in each group was comparable. CONCLUSION: Within this study population the use of PBD by endoscopic stenting was associated with a high incidence of infective complications. These findings do not support the routine use of biliary stenting in patients prior to pancreatico-duodenectomy. | Chandra Shekhar Bhati Chandrashekhar Kubal Pankaj Kumar Sihag Ankur Atal Gupta Raj Kamal Jenav Nicholas G Inston Jagdish M Mehta | 2007 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2007,13,8: | 12
An improved random forest classifier for multi-class classification显示文摘The paper presents an improved-RFC(Random Forest Classifier)approach for multi-class disease classification problem. It consists of a combination of Random Forest machine learning algorithm,an attribute evaluator method and an instance filter method. It intends to improve the performance of Random Forest algorithm. The performance results confirm that the proposed improved-RFC approach performs better than Random Forest algorithm with increase in disease classification accuracy up to 97.80%for multi-class groundnut disease dataset. The performance of improved-RFC approach is tested for its efficiency on five benchmark datasets. It shows superior performance on all these datasets. | Archana Chaudhary Savita Kolhe Raj Kamal | 2016 | Information Processing in Agriculture2016,3,4: | 8
Plants Used as Antihypertensive显示文摘Hypertension is a critical health problem and worse other cardiovascular diseases. It is mainly of two types:Primary or essential hypertension and Secondary hypertension.Hypertension is the primary possibility feature for coronary heart disease, stroke and renal vascular disease.Herbal medicines have been used for millions of years for the management and treatment of hypertension with minimum side effects.Over aim to write this review is to collect information on the anti-hypertensive effects of natural herbs in animal studies and human involvement as well as to recapitulate the underlying mechanisms, from the bottom of cell culture and ex-vivo tissue data.According to WHO,natural herbs/shrubs are widely used in increasing order to treat almost all the ailments of the human body.Plants are the regular industrial units for the invention of chemical constituents, they used as immunity booster to enhance the natural capacity of the body to fight against different health prob-lems as well as herbal medicines and food products also.Eighty percent population of the world(around 5.6 billion people)consume medicines from natural plants for major health concerns. This review provides a bird’s eye analysis primarily on the traditional utilization, phytochemical constituents and pharmacological values of medicinal herbs used to normalize hypertension i.e.Hibiscus sabdariffa,Allium sativum,Andrographis paniculata,Apium graveolens,Bidenspilosa,Camel-lia sinensis,Coptis chinensis,Coriandrum sativum,Crataegus spp.,Crocus sativus,Cymbopogon citrates,Nigella sativa,Panax ginseng,Salviaemiltiorrhizae,Zingiber officinale,Tribulus terrestris,Rauwolfiaserpentina,Terminalia arjuna etc. | Tarawanti Verma Manish Sinha Nitin Bansal Shyam Raj Yadav Kamal Shah Nagendra Singh Chauhan | 2021 | Natural Products and Bioprospecting2021,11,2: | 2

The composition of mixed-species flocks of birds in and around Chitwan National Park,Nepal显示文摘Background:Mixed-species flocks(MSFs)have been well sampled in the South Asia, but there has been as yet surprisingly little work on MSFs of Nepal, despite a diverse and well-studied avifauna. We surveyed MSFs in two forest types in and around the Important Bird Area of Chitwan National Park in Nepal, between 150 and 800 m a.s.l.,to provide a first description of the composition of MSFs in this area.We also aimed to understand which species should be considered‘nuclear species',important to forming MSFs or leading them forward. Results:In total,we collected records on 222 MSFs that included 100 species, and 6097 individuals. The MSFs were similar to worldwide patterns in being dominated by leaf-gleaning,non-terrestrial insectivores. However, the MSFs were more dominated by canopy species than usual, and did not have a clear gregarious, understory leading species.Rather drongos(Family Dicruridae)and minivets(Family Campephagidae,Genus Pericrocotus)acted as leaders, and a cluster analysis of composition showed one group of large body size MSFs particularly characterized by the presence of the Greater Racket-tailed Drongo(Dicrurus paradiseus). Conclusions:Drongos are known to provide both costs and benefits to other flock participants:they are aggressive birds that can steal food, and manipulate other species with their vocalizations, but at the same time they are‘sentinel species'that produce information about predation risk other species can use. This study demonstrates that drongos can be considered nuclear species for some types of MSFs,despite the potential costs of their presence.MSFs led by sentinel species thus may form in Asia,as well as in the Neotropics. | Kamal Raj Gosai Eben Goodale | 2021 | Avian Research2021,12,4: | 0

| Kamal Raj ARYAL Anup GURUNG Prabin PAUDEL Rajendra Kumar BASUKALA Shiva PARIYAR Arjun THAPA Hikmat Kumar SHAHI Ganga SHAH Saroj PANTHI | 2023 | Journal of Resources and Ecology2023,14,5: | 0
Natural contamination of human hands with enteric parasites in Indian Subcontinent显示文摘AIM: To investigate the prevalence of enteric parasite contamination on hands and the potential role naturally contaminated hands may have in their transmission. METHODS: Prior to initiating the survey, the protocol was reviewed and approved by respective Institutional Review Boards of each survey site(Dhaka, Bangladesh and Kolkata, India). Both stool and corresponding hand wash samples collected, were analyzed for the presence of enteric parasitic ova/(oo)cysts employing conventional microscopy coupled with permanent staining techniques. Additionally molecular approachessuch as polymerase chain reaction(PCR) of enteric parasites recovered from both stool and corresponding hand wash samples, were also used to further confirm their identity. RESULTS: A total of 972 stool samples were collected from both sites surveyed(300 volunteers from Kolkata, India and 672 from Dhaka, Bangladesh). Parasitic analysis revealed, 113(38%) from Kolkata, India and 267(40%) of stool samples from Dhaka, Bangladesh were positive for parasitic ova/(oo)cysts. When the corresponding hand wash samples were analyzed, 43(14%) stool-positive volunteers in Kolkata, India and 47(7%) in Dhaka, Bangladesh were positive for enteric parasitic ova/(oo)cysts. Ascaris lumbricoides(A. lumbricoides) ova and Giardia lamblia(G. lamblia) cysts predominated in hands wash samples from both sites surveyed(from India, A. lumbricoides ova, 53%; G. lamblia cysts 31% and from Bangladesh, A. lumbricoides ova, 47%; G. lamblia cysts 19%). Genotypic analysis of enteric parasitic ova/(oo)cysts obtained from both stool and corresponding hand wash samples taken from the same person were found to be identical. CONCLUSION: These results suggest a possible role of hands contaminated with enteric parasites' ova/(oo)cysts in the transmission of these parasites highlighting another role of hand hygiene/proper hand washing in reducing the disease burden in low socioeconomic communities. | M Khalid Ijaz Kaisar A Talukder Mohammad Aslam Rashidul Haque Sandipan Ganguly Ishrat J Azmi Md Shawkat Hossain Avik Kumar Mukherjee Dibyendu Raj Ijaz Ahmed Jabeen Kamal Joseph R Rubino Alam Nur-E-Kamal | 2013 | World Journal of Clinical Infectious Diseases2013,3,2: | 0
Emergence of staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec type Ⅰ with high-level mupirocin resistance among methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus显示文摘Objective: To investigate the molecular epidemiology and antimicrobial resistance patterns of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA) among healthcare workers and patients. Methods: MRSA isolates were recovered from nasal swabs collected at a tertiary care hospital of Nepal and confirmed on the basis of Gram staining, conventional biochemical tests, and PCR amplification of mec A gene. PCRs were also used for detection of the different resistance genes and staphylococcal cassette chromosome(SCC) mec types.Antibiotic susceptibility patterns of isolates were assessed by disc diffusion method and minimum inhibitory concentrations were determined by E-test.Results: A total of 29 MRSA were isolated from 536 nasal swabs(5.4%) of health care workers and patients at a tertiary care hospital in Nepal. All isolates were susceptible to amikacin, gentamicin, vancomycin(minimal inhibitory concentrations < 2 mg/m L), tigecycline, tetracycline, nitrofurantoin, rifampicin, quinupristin-dalfopristin, and linezolid. Among the 29 MRSA isolates, resistance to erythromycin(72%), ciprofloxacin(75%), co-trimoxazole(62%), clindamycin(10%), and chloramphenicol(10%) was found, and fifteen isolates(51%)exhibited high-level mupirocin resistance(minimal inhibitory concentrations > 1 024 mg/m L).Fourteen isolates were found harboring the mup A gene and one isolate was found carrying the novel mup B gene. High prevalence(68%) of SCCmec I type was found, followed by SCCmec V(13%) and SCCmec III(3%) among all the MRSA isolates. Conclusions: We found the emergence of SCCmec type I with high-level mupirocin resistance among MRSA in Nepal. Data also suggest that MRSA SCCmec type V strain has spread from the community to the hospital. | Prabhu Raj Joshi Mahesh Acharya Rajan Aryal Kamal Thapa Trishna Kakshapati Rathanin Seng Anjana Singh Sutthirat Sitthisak | 2017 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2017,7,3: | 0
Mitigating and managing COVID-19: promises and propositions from traditional health care practices in India and China显示文摘Whole world is currently facing the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has affected globaleconomy, culture, societal structure, values and human psyche in an unprecedented deterrence. This review done through published researches in the relevant area proposes that it is highly imperative for traditional and modern health sciences to come together against COVID-19.Evi-dences collected through practical experience, published research and classical health care wisdom spread through Chinese and Indian traditional health care texts set a point for integrative health care needs to manage COVID-19.Evidences are also suggestive of the supportive role of Ayurveda and TCM in COVID-19 mitigation and management. These systems should therefore be fully explored for their potential as supportive care in on-going pandemic. | Sanjeev Rastogi Raj Kamal Yadav Deep Narayan Pandey | 2021 | History & Philosophy of Medicine2021,3,3: | 0
