| 6 | Modelling the daily reference evapotranspiration in semi-arid region of South India: A case study comparing ANFIS and empirical models显示文摘The estimation of evapotranspiration(ETo)is one of the main tools for the control of crop growth and to make a rational use of water resources.To estimate this parameter accurately,it is necessary to have a daily measurement of four meteorological variables,these are:temperature,solar radiation,relative humidity and wind speed.It is not always possible to count on all the variables,that is why there are empirical methods that use a limited number of variables that make an approximate estimate of the ETo value.Each of these models are applicable to different regions with completely different climates.In this paper,a study has been carried out to define the model of ETo estimation that best adapts to the semi-arid region in South India.Two different datasets for the same period from different meteorological stations were used.In addition to the empirical methods for estimating ETo,computer models ANFIS(Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System)were implemented.These models consist in the future estimation of a certain parameter by using current variables and a history of variables and past results.The results of this work show that ANFIS 11 model makes the best estimate with RMSD=0.002 and r=0.999.The RITCHIE method is the most suitable empirical model for this region,which reaches RMSD=0.507 and r=0.851.In addition,ranking of equations is elaborated for both datasets for daily estimates of ETo.Finally,comparison is made with the results for each case and thus confirm or reject the convenience of one model over the rest.To achieve this,a series of statistical indicators were used:Index of agreement(d),MAE(Mean absolute error),SEE(Standard error of estimate)and RMSD(Root mean square difference).Moreover,a sensitivity analysis was performed in order to compare and show the stability of the best models when an error is introduced within the input parameters.In this case,the empirical models demonstrate a better performance than the ANFIS models.This work demonstrates that the Ritchie method is a good estimator of the ETo value for a semi-arid region in southern India.In addition,the results of the ANFIS models are promising and could be used as estimation methods. | Ramiro T.Gonzalez del Cerro M.S.P Subathra Nallapaneni Manoj Kumar Sebastian Verrastro S.Thomas George | 2021 | Information Processing in Agriculture2021,8,1: | 1 |

| 8 | Photometric investigation of eight ultra-short period eclipsing binaries from OGLE显示文摘We performed a detailed photometric analysis of eight ultra-short period eclipsing binaries(USPEBs) using the Wilson-Devinney method. We present the modeled light curves and derived photometric solutions. The USPEBs with period(P)≤0.21 d considered in our study belong to W-subtype having shallow contact factor(f)<~20%, high mass ratio(q)>~0.7 and later spectral types. The absolute parameters for these short-period binaries were derived applying empirical relations. We discuss the evolutionary stage of these USPEBs using the mass-radius, color-density and period-color diagrams. The objects showed poor metallicities, and some objects were even found to be existing around fully convective limits. The period distribution of USPEBs exhibited a sharp cut-off at 0.22 d;however, we observed significant deficits for our objects in the literature. We examined the statistics of USPEBs studied to date(in terms of the distribution of period, mass ratio and component temperatures of USPEBs) and observed that a dominant distribution of component temperatures for these USPEBs was towards lower temperatures. | Shanti Priya D. | 10 | Paraneoplastic retinopathies: an update on pathogenesis, diagnosis and management显示文摘The paraneoplastic retinopathies are a heterogeneous group of disorders with significant visual consequences occuring in the setting of a systemic malignancy.These conditions may be characterized by the presence of antiretinal antibodies and may predate or follow the diagnosis of an underlying malignancy.Herein I review the clinical findings,pathophysiology,laboratory testing and management of the paraneoplastic retinopathies:cancer-associated retinopathy(CAR),melanoma-associated retinopathy(MAR),bilateral diffuse uveal melanocytic proliferation(BDUMP)and paraneoplastic vitelliform maculopathy(PVM).The pathophysiology of the paraneoplastic retinopathies varies from molecular mimicry resulting in anti-retinal antibody production(CAR,MAR)to relases of soluble factors either by the primary tumor(BDUMP)and/or immune system in response to the primary tumor(PVM)which result in retinal and/or retinal pigment epithelium dysfunction.For each condition,structural and functional multimodal retinal testing can be helpful in establishing the diagnosis.Treatment for the paraneoplastic retinopathies involves a combination of treating the underlying malignancy plus additional local and/or systemic immunosuppressive agents though no systemic therapeutic protocols exist.Despite these interventions,the retinopathy may be progressive or the retinopathy may be a harbinger of poor survival.Nevertheless,prompt diagnosis may help identify an underlying malignancy earlier and may thus improve cancer-related survival. | Akshay S.Thomas | 2024 | Annals of Eye Science2024,9,1: | 0 |
