| 1 | Sarcopenia and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease:Is there a relationship?A systematic review显示文摘AIM To perform a systematic review to evaluate the incidence and prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) in adult patients with sarcopenia.METHODS Randomized clinical trials,cross-sectional or cohort studies including adult patients(over 18 years) with sarcopenia were selected.The primary outcomes of interest were the prevalence or incidence of NAFLD in sarcopenic patients.In the screening process,44 fulltext articles were included in the review and 41 studies were excluded.RESULTS Three cross-sectional studies were included.The authors attempted to perform a systematic review,but due to the differences between the studies,a qualitative synthesis was provided.The diagnosis of NAFLD was made by non-invasive methods(image methods or any surrogate markers) in all three evaluated studies.All the studies suggested that there was an independent association between sarcopenia and NAFLD.CONCLUSION Sarcopenia is independently associated with NAFLD and possibly to an advanced fibrosis. | Cristiane V Tovo Sabrina A Fernandes Caroline Buss Angelo A de Mattos | 2017 | World Journal of Hepatology2017,9,6: | 9 |
| 2 | Neuroendocrine and squamous colonic composite carcinoma:Case report with molecular analysis显示文摘Composite colorectal carcinomas are rare. There are amodest number of cases in the medical literature,with even fewer cases describing composite carcinoma with neuroendocrine and squamous components. There areto our knowledge no reports of composite carcinomamolecular alterations. We present a case of composite carcinoma of the splenic flexure in a 33 year-old Cau-casian male to investigate the presence and prognos-tic significance of molecular alterations in rare coloniccarcinoma subtypes. Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded(FFPE) tissue was hematoxylin and eosin- and mucicar-mine-stained according to protocol,and immuno-stained with cytokeratin(CK) 7,CK20,CDX2,AE1/AE3,chromo-granin-A and synaptophysin. DNA was extracted from FFPE tissues and molecular analyses were performed according to lab-developed methods,followed by capil-lary electrophoresis. Hematoxylin and eosin staining showed admixed neuroendocrine and keratinized squamous cells. Positive nuclear CDX2 expression confirme dintestinal derivation. CK7 and CK20 were negative.Neuroendocrine cells stained positively for synaptophysin and AE1/AE3 and negatively for chromogranin and mucicarmine. Hepatic metastases showed a similar immunohistochemical profile. Molecular analysis revealeda G13D KRAS mutation. BRAF mutational testing wasnegative and microsatellite instability was not detected.The patient had rapid disease progression on chemotherapy and died 60 d after presentation. | 4 | Exosomal microRNAs from mesenchymal stem/stromal cells: Biology and applications in neuroprotection显示文摘Mesenchymal stem/stromal cells(MSCs)are extensively studied as cell-therapy agents for neurological diseases.Recent studies consider exosomes secreted by MSCs as important mediators for MSCs’neuroprotective functions.Exosomes transfer functional molecules including proteins,lipids,metabolites,DNAs,and coding and non-coding RNAs from MSCs to their target cells.Emerging evidence shows that exosomal microRNAs(miRNAs)play a key role in the neuroprotective properties of these exosomes by targeting several genes and regulating various biological processes.Multiple exosomal miRNAs have been identified to have neuroprotective effects by promoting neurogenesis,neurite remodeling and survival,and neuroplasticity.Thus,exosomal miRNAs have significant therapeutic potential for neurological disorders such as stroke,traumatic brain injury,and neuroinflammatory or neurodegenerative diseases and disorders.This review discusses the neuroprotective effects of selected miRNAs(miR-21,miR-17-92,miR-133,miR-138,miR-124,miR-30,miR146a,and miR-29b)and explores their mechanisms of action and applications for the treatment of various neurological disease and disorders.It also provides an overview of state-of-the-art bioengineering approaches for isolating exosomes,optimizing their yield and manipulating the miRNA content of their cargo to improve their therapeutic potential. | Aida Nasirishargh Priyadarsini Kumar Lalithasri Ramasubramanian Kaitlin Clark Dake Hao Sabrina V Lazar Aijun Wang | 2021 | World Journal of Stem Cells2021,13,7: | 2 |

| 18 | 20-Hydroxyecdysone from Dacrycarpus imbricatus bark inhibits the proliferation of acute myeloid leukemia cells显示文摘Objective:To investigate the anti-proliferative effects of 20-hydroxyecdysone isolated from the bark of Dacrycarpus imbricatus(Blume) de Laub.Methods:Column chromatography was used for isolation of compounds from plant material.The structure of the isolated compound was identified by mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance techniques,including HSQC,HMBC,NOE-difference experiments.The isolated compound was tested for its anti-proliferative activity in acute myeloid leukemia(AML) and OCI-AML cells.Results:Compound 1 was isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of Dacrycarpus imbricatus barks by column chromatography.Its chemical structure was identified as 20-hydroxyecdysone(20HE),a cholestane-type ecdysteroid,by a combination of mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometric analyses.Our goal was to test the anti-proliferative activity of 20 HE using the OCI-AML cell line.20 HE significantly decreased OCI cell number at a concentration of 1 mg/mL,whereas lower concentrations were ineffective.Moreover,this decrease was due to partial blockage of the G_1/S phase of the cell cycle,with a reduction of cells in the G_2M phase,not due to increased apoptosis.Conclusions:This indicates that 20 HE significantly decreases the number of cells in the G_1/S phase of the cell cycle in human AML cells.This is the first time that the anti-proliferative activity of 20 HE against a human tumor cell line has been reported. | Trinh Thi Thuy Nguyen Thanh Tam Nguyen Thi Hoang Anh Dang Viet Hau Dinh Thi Phong Le Quoc Thang Sabrina Adorisio Tran Van Sung Domenico V Delfino | 2017 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2017,10,2: | 0 |
