1Potential of Steinernema carpocapsae(Weiser) as a biological control agent against potato tuber moth, Phthorimaea operculella(Zeller)(Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae)显示文摘The entomopathogenic nematode,Steinernema carpocapsae, was evaluated for control of the potato tuber moth,Phthorimaea operculella, under laboratory conditions. We evaluated different concentrations of S.carpocapsae for control of 2 nd,3 rd,and 4 th instar P.operculella.The median lethal concentration(LC50)of S.carpocapsae infective juveniles(IJs)to 2 nd,3 rd and 4 th instar larvae of P.operculella was 200,363,181 IJs mL–1,respectively.With the extension of treatment time, the cumulative mortality increased for 2 nd,3 rd,and 4 th instar larvae and pupae of P.operculella.Fourth instars were the most susceptible for all observation periods. Therefore, our results suggest that S.carpocapsae could be an effective biological control agent for P.operculella.YAN Jun-jie Shovon Chandra SARKAR MENG Rui-xia Stuart REITZ GAO Yu-lin 2020Journal of Integrative Agriculture2020,19,2:6

6Deep data analytics for genetic engineering of diatoms linking genotype to phenotype via machine learning显示文摘Genome engineering for materials synthesis is a promising avenue for manufacturing materials with unique properties under ambient conditions.Biomineralization in diatoms, unicellular algae that use silica to construct micron-scale cell walls with nanoscale features,is an attractive candidate for functional synthesis of materials for applications including photonics, sensing, filtration, and drug delivery. Therefore, controllably modifying diatom structure through targeted genetic modifications for these applications is a very promising field. In this work,we used gene knockdown in Thalassiosira pseudonana diatoms to create modified strains with changes to structural morphology and linked genotype to phenotype using supervised machine learning. An artificial neural network(NN)was developed to distinguish wild and modified diatoms based on the SEM images of frustules exhibiting phenotypic changes caused by a specific protein(Thaps3_21880),resulting in 94% detection accuracy.Class activation maps visualized physical changes that allowed the NNs to separate diatom strains, subsequently establishing a specific gene that controls pores.A further NN was created to batch process image data, automatically recognize pores, and extract pore-related parameters.Class interrelationship of the extracted paraments was visualized using a multivariate data visualization tool, called CrossVis,and allowed to directly link changes in morphological diatom phenotype of pore size and distribution with changes in the genotype.Artem A.Trofimov Alison A.Pawlicki Nikolay Borodinov Shovon Mandal Teresa J.Mathews Mark Hildebrand Maxim A.Ziatdinov Katherine A.Hausladen Paulina K.Urbanowicz Chad A.Steed Anton V.Ievlev Alex Belianinov Joshua K.Michener Rama Vasudevan Olga S.Ovchinnikova 2019npj Computational Materials2019,,1:0
7Medicinal activities of the leaves of Musa sapientum var.sylvesteris in vitro显示文摘Objective:This study is to investigate the medicinal value of methanolic extiact of the leaves of Musa sapientum var.sylvesteris in Bangladesh. Methods:Several biochemical assays, thin layer chormatogarphy and ultra-violet spectroscopy were used to detect the presence of various types of compounds in this extract.Antioxidant effects were measured by DPPH scavenging assay, total reducing assay and hydrogen peroxide scavenging assay.Receptor binding activities and hydrogen peroxide induced hemolysis assay were performed by hemagglutination assay and hemolysis assay using erythrocytes.Disk diffusion assay was performed to show the antibacterial effect of the extract. Results:Alethanolic extract of the leaves showed antioxidant and antibacterial activity in ritro. The extract showed hemaglutination inhibition activities and hydrogen peroxide induced hemolysis inhibition activity of human red blood cells. Conclusion:Musa sapientum var.sylvesteris can be an useful medicinal plant.Repon Kumer Sahaa Srijan Acharyaa Syed Sohidul Haque Shovon Priyanka Royb 2013Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013,3,6:0
