1New means to monitor the effect of glucocorticoid therapy in children显示文摘AIM:To study the individual effects of glucocorticoid (GC) therapy on the state ofimmune activation in patient serum.METHODS:We developed a novel assay in which the effect of corticosteroid-treated patient serum on healthy donor peripheral blood mononuclear cells (target cells) was studied,with a panel of markers for effector [interferon (IFN)γ and interleukin (IL)-5] and regulatory T cells (FOXP3 and glucocorticoid-induced tumor necrosis factor receptor,GITR).The study group comprised 19 children with inflammatory bowel disease.The individual effect of patient serum on target cells was analyzed prior to GC therapy and 2 wk later.RESULTS:The effect of GC therapy mediated by patient serum was seen as a decrease in the target cells expression of regulatory T-cell-related markers GITR (median suppression 24%,range of suppression 1%-63%,in 2 cases increase of 6% and 77%,P < 0.01 for mitogen-activated target cells) and FOXP3 (median suppression 33%,range of suppression 0%-79%,in one case an increase of 173%,P < 0.05 for resting cells),and secretion of IFNγ [from a mean of 87 700 pg/mL (SD 33 900 pg/mL) to 60 900 pg/mL (SD 44 200 pg/mL) in mitogen-activated target cells,13 of the cases showed a decrease,P < 0.01].The total or weight-related prednisolone dose did not correlate with the patient-seruminduced changes in the target cell markers.CONCLUSION:GC response could be monitored at an individual level by studying the effect of patient serum on signaling pathways of target immune cells.Hanne Rintamki Harri M Salo Outi Vaarala Kaija-Leena Kolho 2010World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,9:4
2甲醇燃料的船用发动机对空气排放的测量显示文摘Emissions of exhaust gases and particulate matter from a dual fuel marine engine using methanol as fuel with marine gasoil as pilot fuel have been examined for a ferry during operation.The emission factor for nitrogen oxides is lower than what is typically found for marine gasoil but does not reach the tier III limit.The emissions of particulate matter are significantly lower than for fuel oils and similar to what is found for LNG engines.The main part of the particles can be found in the ultrafine range with the peak being at around 18 nm.About 93%of the particles are evaporated and absorbed when using a thermodenuder,and thus a large majority of the particles are volatile.Methanol is a potential future marine fuel that will reduce emissions of air pollutants and can be made as a biofuel to meet emission targets for greenhouse gases.Erik Fridell Håkan Salberg Kent Salo 2021Journal of Marine Science and Application2021,20,1:4

4Seasonal comparison of moss bag technique against vertical snow samples for monitoring atmospheric pollution显示文摘This is the first study seasonally applying Sphagnum papillosum moss bags and vertical snow samples for monitoring atmospheric pollution.Moss bags,exposed in January,were collected together with snow samples by early March 2012 near the Harjavalta Industrial Park in southwest Finland.Magnetic,chemical,scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(SEM-EDX),K-means clustering,and Tomlinson pollution load index(PLI)data showed parallel spatial trends of pollution dispersal for both materials.Results strengthen previous findings that concentrate and slag handling activities were important(dust)emission sources while the impact from Cu–Ni smelter's pipe remained secondary at closer distances.Statistically significant correlations existed between the variables of snow and moss bags.As a summary,both methods work well for sampling and are efficient pollutant accumulators.Moss bags can be used also in winter conditions and they provide more homogeneous and better controlled sampling method than snow samples.Hanna Salo Anna-Kaisa Berisha Joni M?kinen 2016Journal of Environmental Sciences2016,28,3:3
5Impact of Aromatic Concentration in Marine Fuels on Particle Emissions显示文摘The fuel sulfur content in marine fuels has been regulated in Sulfur Emission Control Areas(SECAs) since January 2015. However, other fuel characteristics are also believed to have an impact on particle emissions, particularly on the number of particles emitted. This study investigates the impact of the content of aromatics in fuel. To achieve fuel blends with concentrations of aromatics similar to those found in marine fuel oils, i.e. 20%–30% by volume(%vol.), normal diesel oil(4%–5% vol. aromatics) is doped with a mixture of aromatics. Emission measurements are conducted in test-bed engine facilities and particle emissions over a wide size range are analyzed. Results show a decreased number of particles emitted(or not change) with an increase in the aromatic concentration in fuel. This is because there is a reduction in the cetane number of the fuel with an increased aromatic content, which effects the combustion process and results in decreased particle formation. However, when ignition improver is used to increase the cetane number, particle emissions remain at a lower level than for normal diesel oil; thereby emphasizing the presence of other factors in the formation of particles.Maria Zetterdahl Kent Salo Erik Fridell Jonas Sjoblom 2017Journal of Marine Science and Application2017,16,3:3
