| 1 | Regulation of multidrug resistance by microRNAs in anti-cancer therapy显示文摘Multidrug resistance(MDR) remains a major clinical obstacle to successful cancer treatment.Although diverse mechanisms of MDR have been well elucidated, such as dysregulation of drugs transporters, defects of apoptosis and autophagy machinery, alterations of drug metabolism and drug targets, disrupti on of redox homeostasis, the exact mechanisms of MDR in a specific cancer patient and the cross-talk among these different mechanisms and how they are regulated are poorly understood.Micro RNAs(mi RNAs) are a new class of small noncoding RNAs that could control the global activity of the cell by post-transcriptionally regulating a large variety of target genes and proteins expression.Accumulating evidence shows that mi RNAs play a key regulatory role in MDR through modulating various drug resistant mechanisms mentioned above, thereby holding much promise for developing novel and more effective individualized therapies for cancer treatment. | 2 | Key factors determining biochar sorption capacity for metal contaminants:a literature synthesis显示文摘The sorption capacity and affinity of biochar for metals are both important attributes that determine biochar’s suitability as a soil amendment for contaminant mitigation,yet few analyses have considered both characteristics simultaneously.We present a systematic review of literature published between 2010 and 2018 to test the hypothesis that sorption capacity and affinity are affected by biochar properties,attributes of the metal contaminant,and experimental conditions,in that order.We used random forest(RF)and multi-objective optimization to analyze data of 559 individual Langmuir adsorption isotherms extracted from 133 studies covering the sorption capacity(C_(max))and affinity(K_(L))of biochar for 17 different metals,elabo-rated from six different feedstock classes,three different types of feedstock pretreatment,and five types of post-pyrolysis treatment.Highest sorption values were obtained for Pb(II),Cr(IV),and Cd(II).The feedstock used was the key determinant influencing biochar’s capacity and affinity to sorb metal contaminants(first and fourth most important variable in RF mod-els for C_(max) and K_(L),respectively)with best results obtained for biochar elaborated from nutrient-dense feedstocks(animal biowaste,sludge,and manure).Biochars that had both high sorption capacity and affinity were the result of a longer dura-tion of pyrolysis;they had lower C and higher N and O content,as well as lower C/N and higher O/C and H/C ratios,higher pore volumes and higher pH.Applying some form of pretreatment was better than none,whereas chemical modification was the best of the post-treatment methods analyzed.This review demonstrates clearly that multiple parameters during the preparation process influence the effectiveness of biochar to immobilize metal contaminants.Future research that focuses on mechanisms and the underlying factors for the correlations observed should allow the development of biochar formulations that are even more effective at immobilizing metal contaminants in soils and sediments. | Evert Thomas Nils Borchard Christian Sarmiento Rachel Atkinson Brenton Ladd | 2020 | Biochar2020，2，2： | 5 |
| 3 | Histologic features and genomic alterations of primary colorectal adenocarcinoma predict growth patterns of liver metastasis显示文摘BACKGROUND Different histological growth patterns(HGPs)of colorectal carcinoma(CRC)liver metastasis are associated with patients’prognosis and response to antiangiogenic therapy.However,the relationship between HGPs of liver metastasis and clinicopathological and genomic characteristics of primary cancer has not been well established.AIM To assess whether certain clinicopathological and genomic features of primary CRC could predict the HGPs of liver metastasis.METHODS A total of 29 patients with paired resections of both primary CRC and liver metastasis were divided into two groups:A(15 cases with desmoplastic liver metastasis)and B(14 cases with replacement liver metastasis).Clinical information was obtained from patients’charts.Mismatch repair proteins,BRAFV600E,and PD-L1 were evaluated by immunohistochemistry.Five cases were selected randomly from each group for whole exome sequencing(WES)analysis.RESULTS In the primary tumor,expanding growth pattern,low tumor budding score(TBS),and Crohn’s disease-like response(CDR)were associated with desmoplastic liver metastasis and better overall survival,whereas infiltrating growth pattern alone of primary carcinoma could predict the replacement liver metastasis and worse overall survival(P<0.05).On WES analysis,primary carcinoma with desmoplastic liver metastasis showed mutations in APC(4/5);TP53(3/5);KRAS,PIK3CA,and FAT4(2/5);BRCA-1,BRCA2,BRAF,and DNAH5(1/5),whereas primary carcinoma with replacement liver metastasis showed mutations in APC and TP53(3/5);KRAS,FAT4,DNH5,SMAD,ERBB2,ERBB3,LRP1,and SDK1(1/5).CONCLUSION The HGPs,TBS,and CDR of primary CRC as well as the presence of specific genetic mutations such as those in PIK3CA could be used to predict the HGPs of liver metastasis,response to therapy,and patients’prognosis. | Jing-Bo Wu Ali Lopez Sarmiento Pierre-Olivier Fiset Anthula Lazaris Peter Metrakos Stephanie Petrillo Zu-Hua Gao | 2019 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2019，25，26： | 5 |
| 4 | Localized Corrosion Characteristics of Nickel Alloys: A Review显示文摘There are a great variety of commercial nickel alloys mainly because nickel is able to dissolve a large amount of alloying elements while maintaining a single ductile austenitic phase.Nickel alloys are generally designed for and used in highly aggressive environments,for example,those where stainless steels may experience pitting corrosion or environmentally assisted cracking.While nickel alloys are generally resistant to pitting corrosion in chloride-containing environments,they may be prone to crevice corrosion attack.Addition of chromium,molybdenum and tungsten increases the localized corrosion resistance of nickel alloys.This review on the resistance to localized corrosion of nickel alloys includes specific environments such as those present in oil and gas upstream operations,in the chemical process industry and in seawater service. | Helmuth Sarmiento Klapper Natalia S. | 5 | Specific and cross-reactive immune response against Mycobacterium tuberculosis antigens in mice immunized with proteoliposomes from Mycobacterium bovis BCG显示文摘Objective: To characterize the immunogenicity and the induction of cross-reactive responses against Mycobacterium tuberculosis(M. tuberculosis) of a proteoliposome(PL)from Mycobacterium bovis Bacillus Calmette–Guerin(BCG) with and without alum hydroxide(AL) as adjuvant(PLBCG-AL and PLBCG, respectively) in BALB/c mice.Methods: BALB/c mice were inoculated with phosphate buffer solution, BCG, PLBCG and PLBCG-AL. The humoral immunogenicity was determined by ELISA [immunoglobulin G(Ig G), Ig G1 and Ig G2a] and the cellular immunogenicity was evaluated in vivo by delayed type hypersensitivity. The humoral cross-reactive response against M. tuberculosis was determined by Western blot.Results: Sera from animals immunized with PLBCG-AL and PLBCG showed significant increase in specific total Ig G and Ig G1 antibodies and the presence of cross-reactive antibodies against M. tuberculosis antigens, which were more intense with the use of alum as adjuvant.
