| 1 | Prediction of uniaxial compressive strength and modulus of elasticity for Travertine samples using regression and artificial neural networks显示文摘Uniaxial Compressive Strength (UCS) and modulus of elasticity (E) are the most important rock parameters required and determined for rock mechanical studies in most civil and mining projects. In this study, two mathematical methods, regression analysis and Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), were used to predict the uniaxial compressive strength and modulus of elasticity. The P-wave velocity, the point load index, the Schmidt hammer rebound number and porosity were used as inputs for both meth-ods. The regression equations show that the relationship between P-wave velocity, point load index, Schmidt hammer rebound number and the porosity input sets with uniaxial compressive strength and modulus of elasticity under conditions of linear rela-tions obtained coefficients of determination of (R2) of 0.64 and 0.56, respectively. ANNs were used to improve the regression re-sults. The generalized regression and feed forward neural networks with two outputs (UCS and E) improved the coefficients of determination to more acceptable levels of 0.86 and 0.92 for UCS and to 0.77 and 0.82 for E. | 3 | Reciprocal impact of host factors and Helicobacter pylori genotypes on gastric diseases显示文摘AIM: To assess the impact of Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) genotypes and patient age and sex on the development of gastric diseases.METHODS: H. pylori-infected patients(n = 233) referred to the endoscopy unit at Tehran University of Medical Sciences(Tehran,Iran) were diagnosed with chronic gastritis(CG),gastric ulcer(GU),or duodenal ulcer(DU). Brucella blood agar was used for biopsy cultures and H. pylori isolation under microaerobic conditions. H. pylori isolates were confirmed with biochemical tests and through amplification of the 16 S r RNA gene. DNA was extracted from fresh cultures of the H. pylori isolates and used for amplification of vac A alleles and the cag A gene. Statistical analysis was performed to determine the association between H. pylori genotypes,age(< 40 years vs > 40 years) and sex of the patient,and gastric diseases.RESULTS: CG was the most prevalent gastric disease(113/233; 48.5%),compared to GU(64/233; 27.5%)and DU(56/233; 24%). More patients were male,and gastric diseases were more frequent in patients > 40 years(P < 0.05). The percentage of CG and GU patients that were male and female did not show a significant difference; however DU was more common in males(P < 0.05). Interestingly,a diagnosis of CG in patients > 40 years was more common in females(18.5%) than males(11.6%)(P = 0.05),whereas a diagnosis of GU or DU in patients > 40 years was more frequent in males(14.6% vs 10.7% and 12.4% vs 4.3%,respectively). Overall,genotyping of the H. pylori isolates revealed that the vac A s1(82%),vac A m2(70%),and cag A+(72.5%) alleles were more frequent than vac A s2(18%),vac A m1(29.2%),and cag A-(all P < 0.05). The vac A s1m2 cag A+ genotype was the most prevalent within the three disease groups. vac A s1m2 frequency was 56.2% with a similar occurrence in all diagnoses,while vac A s1m1 appeared more often in DU patients(33.9%). A genotype of vac A s2m2 occurred in 15% of isolates and was more common in CG patients(21.2%); vac A s2m1 was the least common genotype(3%). The vac A s1 allele was found to be a risk factor for DU,vac A s2 for CG,and vac A s1 and vac A s2 for GU(all P < 0.05). The vac A s2m2 genotype was associated with the development of CG and GU compared to DU(P < 0.05). | 4 | Effects of the deep rolling process on the surface roughness and properties of an Al-3vol%SiC nanoparticle nanocomposite fabricated by mechanical milling and hot extrusion显示文摘Deep rolling is one of the most widely used surface mechanical treatments among several methods used to generate compressive residual stress. This process is usually used for axisymmetric components and can lead to improvements of the surface quality, dimensional accuracy, and mechanical properties. In this study, we deduced the appropriate deep rolling parameters for Al-3vol%Si C nanocomposite samples using roughness and microhardness measurements. The nanocomposite samples were fabricated using a combination of mechanical milling, cold pressing, and hot extrusion techniques. Density measurements indicated acceptable densification of the samples, with no porosity. The results of tensile tests showed that the samples are sufficiently strong for the deep rolling process and also indicated near 50% improvement of tensile strength after incorporating Si C nanoparticle reinforcements. The effects of some important rolling parameters, including the penetration depth, rotation speed, feed rate, and the number of passes, on the surface quality and microhardness were also investigated. | 5 | Precision micro-mechanical components in single crystal diamond by deep reactive ion etching显示文摘The outstanding material properties of single crystal diamond have been at the origin of the long-standing interest in its exploitation for engineering of high-performance micro-and nanosystems.In particular,the extreme mechanical hardness,the highest elastic modulus of any bulk material,low density,and the promise for low friction have spurred interest most notably for micro-mechanical and MEMS applications.While reactive ion etching of diamond has been reported previously,precision structuring of freestanding micro-mechanical components in single crystal diamond by deep reactive ion etching has hitherto remained elusive,related to limitations in the etch processes,such as the need of thick hard masks,micromasking effects,and limited etch rates.In this work,we report on an optimized reactive ion etching process of single crystal diamond overcoming several of these shortcomings at the same time,and present a robust and reliable method to produce fully released micro-mechanical components in single crystal diamond.Using an optimized Al/SiO_(2) hard mask and a high-intensity oxygen plasma etch process,we obtain etch rates exceeding 30μm/h and hard mask selectivity better than 1:50.We demonstrate fully freestanding micro-mechanical components for mechanical watches made of pure single crystal diamond.The components with a thickness of 150μm are defined by lithography and deep reactive ion etching,and exhibit sidewall angles of 82°–93°with surface roughness better than 200 nm rms,demonstrating the potential of this powerful technique for precision microstructuring of single crystal diamond. | Adrien Toros Marcell Kiss Teodoro Graziosi Hamed Sattari Pascal Gallo Niels Quack | 2018 | Microsystems & Nanoengineering2018,4,1: | 2 |
