1High absorption large-mode area step-index fiber for tandem-pumped high-brightnes shigh-power lasers显示文摘A short absorption length ytterbium(Yb)-doped large-mode area(LMA)fiber is presented as a step forward to mitigate the stern problem of nonlinear scatterings in a tandem pumping scheme adopted for high-power fiber laser.The short absorption length was realized by incorporating high Yb concentration in the fiber core.Furthermore,by replacing the inherent silica cladding with a Ge-doped cladding,we were able to obtain low core numerical aperture(NA)and negate the detrimental effect of index-raising by high Yb concentrations.This overcomes the long-standing limitation in step-index Yb-doped fibers(YDFs)where high cladding absorption inevitably results in high NA,thus hampering single-mode operation.We report an LMA(~575μm^2)YDF with NA of 0.04 and absorption of 27 dB/m at 976 nm both traits promote power scaling of single-mode tandem pumped fiber lasers.To our knowledge,this is the highest cladding absorption attained in a low-NA step-index fiber to date.An all-fiber tandem-pumped amplifier was built using only^14 m of the YDF.The amplifier delivered a near-Gaussian beam(M^i.27)at 836 W output power(pump power limited)with a high slope efficiency of^83%.Thanks to the short length and the tandem pumping,no indication of limiting factors such as stimulated Raman scattering,photodarkening,and transverse mode instability was observed.KANG-JIE LIM SAMUEL KA-WEN SEAH JOASH YONG'EN YE WENDY WEIYING LIM CHU-PERNG SEAH YUNN-BOON TAN SUTING TAN HUITING LIM RAGHURAMAN SIDHARTHAN ARUMUGAM RAJENDRA PRASADH CHEN-JIAN CHAN SEONGWOO YOO SONG-LIANG CHUA 2020Photonics Research2020,8,10:5
2Conceptual design of the Kumgang laser: a high-power coherent beam combination laser using SC-SBS-PCMs towards a Dream laser显示文摘In this review paper, we introduce a self-phase controlled stimulated Brillouin scattering phase conjugate mirror(SCSBS-PCM) and the Kumgang laser. The SC-SBS-PCM was proposed and demonstrated its success at the academic low power level, ~100 mJ@10 Hz. The Kumgang laser is under development to verify whether the SC-SBS-PCM is operable at the k W level. It is a 4 kW beam combination laser combining four 1 k W beams using the SC-SBS-PCM. 3Selecting and applying quantification models for ecosystem services to forest ecosystems in South Korea显示文摘There is growing interest in using ecosystem services to aid development of management strategies that target sustainability and enhance ecosystem support to humans. Challenges remain in the search for methods and indicators that can quantify ecosystem services using metrics that are meaningful in light of their high priorities.We developed a framework to link ecosystems to human wellbeing based on a stepwise approach. We evaluated prospective models in terms of their capacity to quantify national ecosystem services of forests. The most applicable models were subsequently used to quantify ecosystem services. The Korea Forest Research Institute model satisfied all criteria in its first practical use. A total of 12 key ecosystem services were identified. For our case study, we quantified four ecosystem functions, viz. water storage capacity in forest soil for water storage service, reduced suspended sediment for water purification service, reduced soil erosion for landslide prevention service, and reduced sediment yield for sediment regulation service. Water storage capacity in forest soil was estimated at 2142 t/ha,and reduced suspended sediment was estimated at 608 kg/ha. Reduced soil erosion was estimated at 77 m^3/ha, and reduced sediment yield was estimated at 285 m^3/ha. These results were similar to those reported by previous studies.Mapped results revealed hotspots of ecosystem services around protected areas that were particularly rich in biodiversity. In addition, the proposed framework illustrated that quantification of ecosystem services could be supported by the spatial flow of ecosystem services. 16Output characteristics of high-power stimulated Brillouin scattering pulse compression enhanced by thermal effects based on HT270显示文摘Thermal effects are typically considered as obstacles to high-repetition-rate stimulated Brillouin scattering(SBS)pulse compression.In this paper,a novel method is proposed for improving the SBS output characteristics by exploiting thermal effects on the liquid medium.Using HT270,the SBS output parameters with the medium purification and rotating off-centered lens methods are studied at different repetition rates.The results indicate that these two methods can alleviate thermal effects and improve the energy efficiency,but the rotating method reduces the energy stability because of the aggravated optical breakdown at the kilohertz-level repetition rate.For a 35-mJ pump energy,the energy efficiency at 2 kHz without the rotating method is 30%higher than that at 100 Hz and 70%higher than that at 500 Hz.The enhancement of the SBS output characteristics by thermal effects is demonstrated theoretically and experimentally,and 2-kHz high-power SBS pulsecompression is achieved with HT270.Hongli Wang Seongwoo Cha Hong Jin Kong Yulei Wang Zhiwei Lv 2022High Power Laser Science and Engineering2022,10,4:0
