1Fuzziness parameter selection in fuzzy c-means: The perspective of cluster validation显示文摘Fuzzy c-means(FCM) algorithm is an important clustering method in pattern recognition, while the fuzziness parameter, m, in FCM algorithm is a key parameter that can significantly affect the result of clustering. Cluster validity index(CVI) is a kind of criterion function to validate the clustering results, thereby determining the optimal cluster number of a data set. From the perspective of cluster validation, we propose a novel method to select the optimal value of m in FCM, and four well-known CVIs, namely XB, VK, VT, and SC, for fuzzy clustering are used. In this method, the optimal value of m is determined when CVIs reach their minimum values. 2Monodisperse silica nanoparticle suspension for developing latent blood fingermarks显示文摘Traditional fingermark developing methods are unsuitable for developing and extracting latent blood fingermarks on dark surfaces at crime scene because of their ineffectiveness or tedious operation procedures.In the present work,an effective and simple method was developed to serve this purpose using a suspension of monodisperse silica nanoparticles(MSNs).A suspension of 0.1 g/mL of MSNs was prepared by dispersing MSNs ultrasonically into an ethanol solution containing 1.0%Tween 80 and then uniformly sprayed onto the latent blood fingermarks on black plastic bags.Approximately 20 s later,ethanol was sprayed to clean the superfluous developing liquid.After the ethanol had evaporated,the latent fin-germarks became visible as a result of the photonic crystal effect produced by the MSNs that had adsorbed to the fingermark ridges.The developed fingermarks were then photo-graphed using a digital camera under a white or monospectral light source,revealing fine ridges and clear fingermark details.This novel,simple and effective method uses the pho-tonic crystal effect of MSNs to develop latent blood fingermarks without the need for sur-face functionalization and conjugation to dye or fluorescently label molecules.The method can detect latent blood fingermarks that have been retained on a black plastic bag surface for at least 30 d.Given the simplicity and effectiveness of the developed method,MSNs may be a useful alternative material for use in developing latent fingermarks.Further research on the topic is warranted.Liang Meng Yifei Ren Zhilong Zhou Congxiang Li Chen Wang Shanlin Fu 2020Forensic Sciences Research2020,5,1:1

5The mechanical properties of plastic evidence bags used for collection and storage of drug chemicals relevant to clandestine laboratory investigations显示文摘The effectiveness of three types of plastic bags used by the New South Wales Police Force for the storage of clandestine drug evidence has been investigated through a comparison of mechanical properties.The tensile and tear properties of“as received”low-density polyethylene(LDPE)and poly(vinyl chloride)(PVC)bags do not show major differences such that one type would be favoured over the other.However,the mechanical properties of the bags once exposed to a range of chemicals routinely collected as drug evidence have been shown to be influenced as a result of different chemical interactions.Although an interaction of reagents/solvents with an additive within the LDPE bags is proposed to influence the mechanical properties of the bags,the change in properties has been shown to be less severe than that observed for the PVC bag,where softening and damage of the bags results due to absorption of reagents.Harmonie Michelot Barbara Stuart Shanlin Fu Ronald Shimmon Tony Raymond Tony Crandell Claude Roux 2017Forensic Sciences Research2017,2,4:1
6Data-driven group decision making for diagnosis of thyroid nodule显示文摘Emerging information technologies’ integration into various fields has enhanced the development of these fields. Large volumes of data have been accumulated in this process. The accumulated data offer opportunities and challenges for people facing practical problems. On the one hand, it is essential to depend on a group’s capabilities rather than an individual’s capabilities to handle practical problems because the individual may lack sufficient expertise and experience to use data. In this situation, the practical problems can be considered as group decision making(GDM) problems. On the other hand, the accumulated data can help generate quality solutions to GDM problems. To obtain such solutions under the assumption that the accumulated data regarding a specific decision problem are available, this paper proposes a data-driven GDM method. In the method, decision makers’ weights are learned from historical overall assessments and the corresponding gold standards, while criterion weights are learned from historical overall assessments and the corresponding decision matrices. The learned expert weights and criterion weights are used to produce the aggregated assessments, from which alternatives are compared or the overall conclusion is made. 8Numerical simulation of granular silicon growth and silicon fines formation process in polysilicon fluidized bed显示文摘Operating conditions strongly affect the yield and quality of polysilicon in a polysilicon fluidized bed.In this study,a new model of polysilicon fluidized bed was established using the Euler-Euler model coupled with population balance model(PBM),which was combined with fluid flow,heat,and mass transfer models,while considering the scavenging effect of silicon fines.The effects of different operating conditions on the deposition and formation rates of silicon fines were investigated.Results show that the model can correctly describe the particle growth process in the fluidized bed of polysilicon.The silicon fines and the interphase velocity difference show'N'-and'M'-shaped distributions along the axial direction,respectively.The particle temperature and concentration near the wall are higher than those in the central region.The decomposition of silane in the bottom region of the bed is dominated by het-erogeneous deposition.The scavenging of silicon fines occurs in the dilute-phase region.The effects of operating conditions,i.e.inlet gas temperature,silane composition,and gas velocity,on the reactor performance were also explored comprehensively.Increasing the inlet gas composition and velocity enhances the formation rates of solid silicon and fines.Increasing the inlet gas temperature promotes the growth of solid silicon and inhibits the formation of silicon fines.High fluidization ratio,low inlet silane concentration,and high inlet gas temperature enhance the selectivity of silicon growth.Guangkai Gu Guoqiang Lv Wenhui Ma Shanlin Du Boqiang Fu 2024Particuology2024,87,4:0
9Isolation and identification of an isomeric sildenafil analogue as an adulterant in an instant coffee premix显示文摘The proliferation of adulterated health foods and beverages in the market demands a comprehensive analytical strategy to identify the adulterants,particularly those of isomeric phosphodiesterase 5(PDE5)inhibitors.An instant coffee premix(ICP)purchased from an online retailer was flagged for suspected adulteration through PDE5 inhibition assay.The ICP was then analysed using suspected-target and non-targeted screenings of a liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry.Based on these findings,a PDE5 inhibitor initially assigned as compound X was isolated from the ICP by employing a liquid chromatography-diode array detection before its structural elucidation with liquid chromatography-ultraviolet(LC-UV)spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)spectroscopy.The suspected-target screening matched the protonated molecule([MþH]þ)precursor ion of compound X at m/z 499.2310 with two suspected analytes that are structural isomers of one another.The fragmentation patterns of compound X were comparable to those analogues in the dithiocarbodenafil group through the non-targeted screening.These findings,complemented by the LC-UV and NMR spectroscopy data,together with the chromatographic separation of related structural isomers,conclude the identity of compound X.To our best knowledge,this is the first study to report the presence of 3,5-dimethylpiperazinyl-dithiodesmethylcarbodenafil in an ICP sample.Ahmad Yusri Mohd Yusop Linda Xiao Shanlin Fu 2022Forensic Sciences Research2022,7,2:0
10Optimal design of gas distributor in fluidized bed for synthesis of silicone monomer显示文摘The structure of the gas distributor is closely related to the production efficiency of organosilicon monomers.To improve the production efficiency of organosilicon monomers,this study uses Eulerian-Eulerian two fluid model and proposes a design formula for the gas distributor to optimize the gas distributor.It is proposed that the pressure drop of the gas distributor,the velocity nonuniformity coefficient,the relative standard deviation of the solid holdup,and the solid particle dispersion coefficient are used to evaluate the performance of the gas distributor.The results show that the performance of the gas distributor is significantly improved when the opening ratioΦ=0.53%is optimized toΦ=0.18%,in which the relative standard deviation of the solid holdup is reduced by 22%,and the solid particle dispersion coefficient is reduced by 40%.On this basis,this article studies the influence of different arrangements of vent holes on gas-solid fluidization characteristics.The results show that the circular arrangement of vent holes is helpful to the mixing of gas and solid.Shanlin Du Guoqiang Lv Wenhui Ma Guangkai Gu Boqiang Fu 2023Particuology2023,,12:0
11Quantification of urban greenery using hemisphere-view panoramas with a green cover index显示文摘Urban greenery has positive impacts on the well-being of residents and provides vital ecosystem services.A quantitative evaluation of full-view green coverage at the human scale can guide green space planning and management.We developed a still camera to collect hemisphere-view panoramas(HVPs)to obtain in situ heterogeneous scenes and established a panoramic green cover index(PGCI)model to measure human-scale green coverage.A case study was conducted in Xicheng District,Beijing,to analyze the quantitative relationships of PGCI with the normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI)and land surface temperature(LST)in different land use scenarios.The results show that the HVP is a useful quantization tool:(1)the method adaptively distinguishes the green cover characteristics of the four functional areas,and the PGCI values are ranked as follows:recreational area(29.6)>residential area(19.0)>traffic area(15.9)>commercial area(12.5);(2)PGCI strongly explains NDVI and LST,and for each unit(1%)increase in PGCI,NDVI tends to increase by 0.007,and(3)LST tends to decrease by 0.21 degrees Celsius.This research provides government managers and urban planners with tools to evaluate green coverage in complex urban environments and assistance in optimizing human-scale greenery and microclimate.Yonglin Zhang Shanlin Li Xiao Fu Rencai Dong 2021Ecosystem Health and Sustainability2021,7,1:0
