2Asymmetric neurocognitive representation of ethnic in-group/out-group faces显示文摘To investigate asymmetric neurocognitive representation of ethnic in-group and out-group members, we recorded event-related potentials (ERPs) to faces in a perceptual task after the faces had been primed with positive or negative affective links. The affective link priming did not influence the ERPs to ethnic out-group faces. However, relative to the positive affective link priming, the negative affective link priming increased the amplitudes of an early frontal negativity (N100) and a following central negativity but decreased the amplitude of a late positive potential elicited by ethnic in-group faces. Moreover, the N100 amplitude correlated with the degree of negative attitudes towards ethnic in-group faces. The findings suggest that multiple-level neural mechanisms are involved in individuation of heterogeneous ethnic in-group faces.MA YiNa GE JianQiao XU XiaoJing FAN Yan YANG ShengMin HAN ShiHui 2009Chinese Science Bulletin2009,54,12:3
3Watching cartoons activates the medial prefrontal cortex in children显示文摘The medial prefrontal cortex (MPFC) of human adults is involved in attributing mental states to real human agents but not to virtual artificial characters. This study examined whether such differential MPFC activity can be observed in children who are more fascinated by cartoons than adults. We measured brain activity using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) while 10-year-old children watched movie and cartoon clips, simulating real and virtual visual worlds, respectively. We showed neuroimaging evidence that, in contrast to adults, the MPFC of children was activated when perceiving both human agents and artificial characters in coherent visual events. Our findings suggest that, around the age of 10 years, the MPFC activity in children is different from that in adults in that it can be spontaneously activated by non-human agents in a virtual visual world.HAN ShiHui JIANG Yi Glyn W. 4The key environmental factors driving the succession of phytoplankton functional groups in Hongfeng Reservoir, southwest China显示文摘Reservoirs are an important water source in many densely populated areas in southwest China.Phytoplankton play an essential role in maintaining the structure and function of reservoir ecosystems.Understanding the succession in phytoplankton communities and the factors driving it are essential for eff ective water quality management in drinking water reservoirs. In this study, water samples were collected monthly at the surface layers from March 2016 to December 2019 in Hongfeng Reservoir, southwest China. The relationship between functional group succession was analyzed based on nonmetric multidimensional scaling analysis(NMDS),redundancy analysis(RDA),succession rate, and other analysis methods. The results showed distinct shifts in the community structure of phytoplankton functional groups within study period. The Cyclotella sp.was dominant in 2016 and 2017,and Pseudanabaena limnetica was the dominant group in 2018 and 2019.It appears that the phytoplankton composition and biomass are closely related to the water temperature and nutrient status in this reservoir. The results clearly showed that the permanganate index(COD_(Mn))was the key factor of dramatic phytoplankton functional group succession, and the change in succession rates was closely caused by total nitrogen concentration(TN).Therefore, the succession pattern and key factors of Hongfeng Reservoir revealed in this study were important guidance for the management of drinking water reservoirs in southwest China.A reasonable limit on exogenous nutrient input should be a priority, especially in high water temperature period.Libin HAN Qiuhua LI Wensheng CHEN Xing WANG Shihui ZHOU Mengshu HAN Anton BRANCELJ 2022Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2022,40,4:2

15prpf4 is essential for cell survival and posterior lateral line primordium migration in zebrafish显示文摘Prpf4(pre-mRNA processing factor 4),a key component of spliceosome, plays critical roles in pre-mRNA splicing and its mutations result in retinitis pigmentosa due to photoreceptor defects. In this study,we characterized a zebrafishharboring a Tol2 transposon-based gene trap cassette in the third intron of the prpf4 gene.Cells in the brain and spinal cord gradually undergo p53-dependent apoptosis after 28 hpf insuggesting that a widespread function of prpf4 in neural cell survival. In addition,prpf4 is essential for survival of posterior lateral line primordial(pLLP)cells.prpf4 deficiency perturbs Fgf,and chemokine signaling pathways and impairs pLLP migration.RNA-Seq analysis suggests that prpf4 deficiency may impair spliceosome assembly, leading to compensatory upregulation of core spliceosomal genes and alteration of pre-mRNA splicing.Taken together, our studies uncover an essential role of prpf4 in pre-m RNA splicing, cell survival and pLLP migration.Yixia Wang Yanchao Han Pengfei Xu Shihui Ding Guangyuan Li Hongbin Jin Yaping Meng Anming Meng Shunji Jia 2018Journal of Genetics and Genomics2018,45,8:1

19Neural substrates of global perception are modulated by local elem ent grouping显示文摘Prior behavioral studies suggested that global perception of compound stimuli is modulated by the way the local elements are grouped into global structures. The current work examined whether dis- tinct neural mechanisms are involved in global/local processing of compound stimuli when local elements are grouped into global shapes by proximity or by shape similarity. Functional magnetic resonance im- aging (fMRI) was used to measure neural activities associated with global/local processing of compound shapes that were presented against either a black background (Experiment 1) or a background of crosses (Experiment 2) while subjects discriminated close or open shapes at the global or local level. Global processing induced activation in the medial occipital cortex in Experiment 1 but in the right inferior temporal, superior parietal, and inferior frontal cortex, and the left inferior parietal gyrus in Experiment 2. Local processing was associated with activations in the left precentral gyrus and right superior temporal gurys in Experiment 1 but in the left posterior inferior parietal gyrus in Experiment 2. The fMRI results suggest that global perception is mediated by distinct neural substrates depending upon how local ele- ments are grouped into global structures.MAO Lihua ZHANG Xin CHEN Jing GU Hua HAN Shihui 2006Chinese Science Bulletin2006,51,3:1
