Tea aroma formation显示文摘Besides water, tea is one of the most popular beverages around the world. The chemical ingredients and biological activities of tea have been summarized recently. The current review summarizes tea aroma compounds and their formation in green, black, and oolong tea.The flavor of tea can be divided into two categories:taste(non-volatile compounds)and aroma(volatile compounds). All of these aroma molecules are generated from carotenoids, lipids, glycosides, etc.precursors, and also from Maillard reaction. In the current review,we focus on the formation mechanism of main aromas during the tea manufacturing process.©2015 Beijing Academy of Food Sciences.Production and hosting by Elsevier B.V.All rights reserved.Chi-Tang Ho Xin Zheng Shiming Li 2015Food Science and Human Wellness2015,4,1:62
Transgenic expression of MYB15 confers enhanced sensitivity to abscisic acid and improved drought tolerance in Arabidopsis thaliana显示文摘Abiotic stresses cause serious crop losses. Knowledge on genes functioning in plant responses to adverse growth conditions is essential for developing stress tolerant crops. Here we report that transgenic expression of MYB15, encoding a R2R3 MYB transcription factor in Arabidopsis thaliana, conferred hypersensitivity to exogenous abscisic acid (ABA) and improved tolerance to drought and salt stresses. The promoter of MYB15 was active in not only vegetative and reproductive organs but also the guard cells of stomata. Its transcript level was substantially upregulated by ABA, drought or salt treatments. Compared with wild type (WT) control, MYB15 overexpression lines were hypersensitive to ABA in germination assays, more susceptible to ABA-elicited inhibition of root elongation, and more sensitive to ABA-induced stomatal closure. In line with the above findings, the transcript levels of ABA biosynthesis (ABA1, ABA2), signaling (ABI3), and responsive genes (AtADH1, RD22, RD29B, AtEM6) were generally higher in MYB15 overexpression seedlings than in WT controls after treatment with ABA. MYB15 overexpression lines displayed improved survival and reduced water loss rates than WT control under water deficiency conditions. These overexpression lines also displayed higher tolerance to NaCl stress. Collectively, our data suggest that overexpression of MYB15 improves drought and salt tolerance in Arabidopsis possibly by enhancing the expression levels of the genes involved in ABA biosynthesis and signaling, and those encoding the stress-protective proteins.Zhenhua Ding Shiming Li Xueli An Xin Liu Huanju Qin Daowen Wang 2009Journal of Genetics and Genomics2009,36,1:42
Significance of dredging on sediment denitrification in Meiliang Bay,China:A year long simulation study显示文摘An experiment for studying the effects of sediment dredging on denitrification in sediments was carried out through a one-year incubation of undredged (control) and dredged cores in laboratory. Dredging the upper 30 cm of sediment can significantly affect physico-chemical characteristics of sediments. Less degradation of organic matter in the dredged sediments was found during the experiment. Denitrification rates in the sediments were estimated by the acetylene blockage technique, and ranged from 21.6 to 102.7 nmol N2/(g dry weight (dw)·hr) for the undredged sediment and from 6.9 to 26.9 nmol N2/(g dw·hr) for dredged sediments. The denitrification rates in the undredged sediments were markedly higher (p<0.05) than those in the dredged sediments throughout the incubation, with the exception of February 2006. The importance of various environmental factors on denitrification was assessed, which indicated that denitrification was regulated by temperature. Nitrate was probably the key factor limiting denitrification in both undredged and dredged sediments. Organic carbon played some role in determining the denitrification rates in the dredged sediments, but not in the undredged sediments. Sediment dredging influenced the mineralization of organic matter and denitrification in the sediment; and therefore changed the pattern of inherent cycling of nitrogen.Jicheng Zhong Chengxin Fan Lu Zhang Edward Hall Shiming Ding Bao Li Guofeng Liu 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,1:40

Identifcation of large-scale goaf instability in underground mine using particle swarm optimization and support vector machine显示文摘An approach which combines particle swarm optimization and support vector machine(PSO–SVM)is proposed to forecast large-scale goaf instability(LSGI).Firstly, influencing factors of goaf safety are analyzed, and following parameters were selected as evaluation indexes in the LSGI:uniaxial compressive strength(UCS)of rock, elastic modulus(E)of rock, rock quality designation(RQD),area ration of pillar(Sp),the ratio of width to height of the pillar(w/h),depth of ore body(H),volume of goaf(V),dip of ore body(a)and area of goaf(Sg).Then LSGI forecasting model by PSO-SVM was established according to the influencing factors. The performance of hybrid model(PSO+SVM=PSO–SVM)has been compared with the grid search method of support vector machine(GSM–SVM)model. The actual data of 40 goafs are applied to research the forecasting ability of the proposed method, and two cases of underground mine are also validated by the proposed model. The results indicated that the heuristic algorithm of PSO can speed up the SVM parameter optimization search, and the predictive ability of the PSO–SVM model with the RBF kernel function is acceptable and robust, which might hold a high potential to become a useful tool in goaf risky prediction research.Zhou Jian Li Xibing Hani S.Mitri Wang Shiming Wei Wei 2013International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2013,23,5:14

Geochemistry of rare earth elements in the mid-late Quaternary sediments of the western Philippine Sea and their paleoenvironmental significance显示文摘Based on a δ18O chronology, rare earth elements(REE) and other typical elements in sediments from core MD06-3047 in the western Philippine Sea were analyzed to constrain the provenances of the sediments and investigate quantitative changes in the Asian eolian input to the study area over the last 700 ka.Among the competing processes that might affect REE compositions, sediment provenance is the most important one.Provenance analysis suggests that the study sediments have two provenance end-members;local volcanic sources are dominant, and eolian dust from the Asian continent has a smaller contribution.During glacial periods, eolian input to the western Philippine Sea was enhanced. In contrast, material supply from local volcanics increased during interglacial periods.Changes in eolian input to the study area were probably related to the strength of the East Asian winter monsoon(EAWM) as well as aridity in the Asian continent on an orbital time scale, and were partly influenced by local control factors on shorter time scales. Therefore,we propose that the present study expands the application of the REE-based method for quantitatively estimating the eolian component from the mid-latitude northern Pacific to the low-latitude western Pacific.Additionally, the study preliminarily confirms the influence of EAWM-transported eolian material on sedimentation in the western Philippine Sea since 700 ka.XU ZhaoKai LI TieGang WAN ShiMing YIN XueBo JIANG FuQing SUN HanJie JinYong CHOI DhongIl LIM 2014Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,4:10
Focusing on the recent progress of tea polyphenol chemistry and perspectives显示文摘Myriad evidence attests to the health-promoting benefits of tea drinking. While there are multiple factors of tea influencing the effective biological properties, tea polyphenols are the most significant and valuable components. The chemical characterization and physical characteristics of tea polyphenols have been comprehensively studied over the previous years.Still the emergence of new chemistry in tea, particularly the property of scavenging reactive carbonyl species(RCS)and the newly discovered flavoalkaloid compounds, has drawn increasing attention. In this review,we summarize recent findings of a new class of compounds in tea-flavonoid alkaloids(flavoalkaloids),which exist in fresh tea leaves and can be generated during the process of post-harvesting,and also postulate the formation mechanism of flavoalkaloids between catechins and theanine-derived Strecker aldehyde.Additionally,we detail the up-to-date research results of tea polyphenols regarding their ability to trap RCS and their in vivo aminated metabolites to suppress advanced glycation ends products(AGEs).We further raise questions to be addressed in the near future, including the synthetic pathways for the generation of flavoalkaloids and AGEs in fresh tea leaves before processing and the concentrations of tea polyphenols that affect their RCS scavenging capability due to their pro-oxidant nature.More intensive research is warranted to elucidate the mechanisms of action underlying the biological activity of flavoalkaloids and the pharmacological application of tea polyphenols in scavenging RCS and impeding detrimental AGEs.Shiming Li Liang Zhang Xiaochun Wan Jianfeng Zhan Chi-Tang Ho 2022Food Science and Human Wellness2022,11,3:10
High-performance silicon−graphene hybrid plasmonic waveguide photodetectors beyond 1.55μm显示文摘Graphene has attracted much attention for the realization of high-speed photodetection for silicon photonics over a wide wavelength range. However, the reported fast graphene photodetectors mainly operate in the 1.55μm wavelength band.In this work,we propose and realize high-performance waveguide photodetectors based on bolometric/photoconductive effects by introducing an ultrathin wide silicon−graphene hybrid plasmonic waveguide, which enables efficient light absorption in graphene at 1.55μm and beyond. When operating at 2μm,the present photodetector has a responsivity of ~70 mA/W and a setup-limited 3 dB bandwidth of >20 GHz.When operating at 1.55μm,the present photodetector also works very well with a broad 3 dB bandwidth of >40 GHz(setup-limited)and a high responsivity of ~0.4 A/W even with a low bias voltage of−0.3 V.This work paves the way for achieving highresponsivity and high-speed silicon-graphene waveguide photodetection in the near/mid-infrared ranges, which has applications in optical communications, nonlinear photonics, and on-chip sensing.Jingshu Guo Jiang Li Chaoyue Liu Yanlong Yin Wenhui Wang Zhenhua Ni Zhilei Fu Hui Yu Yang Xu Yaocheng Shi Yungui Ma Shiming Gao Limin Tong Daoxin Dai 2020Light(Science & Applications)2020,9,1:10
Inhibitory effects of chitosan on superoxide anion radicals and lipid free radicals显示文摘With the electron spin resonance (ESR) technique, the inhibitory effects of chitosan on superoxide anion radicals and linoleic acid lipid radicals were found. The inhibitory ratio E for these two kinds of radicals is in proportion to the concentration of chitosan. It was also observed that E for linoleic acid lipid radicals increased with the increase of the degree of deacetylation and decreased with the increase of the molecular weight of chitosan.Wenjun Li Xuan Jiang Peihua Xue Shiming Chen 2002Chinese Science Bulletin2002,47,11:9

Chemistry and health beneficial effects of oolong tea and theasinensins显示文摘Among six major types of tea(white, green, oolong, yellow, black, and dark teas)from Camellia sinensis, oolong tea,a semi-fermented tea, with its own unique aroma and taste, has become a popular consumption as indicated by the increasing production.Representing the characteristic flavonoids of oolong tea, theasinensins are dimeric flavan-3-ols.Many recent studies have indicated that oolong tea and theasinensins possess several health benefit properties. We consider it significant and necessary to have a comprehensive review in the recent advances of oolong tea. Therefore, the aim of the present review is to provide a new perspective on oolong tea and its characteristic phytochemicals, theasinensins associated with health benefits, molecular action pathway, and chemical mechanism of theasinensin formation from scientific evidences available on the literature.Furthermore, the chemical characterization of the oxidation products and the model oxidation system to the chemical changes of theasinensins are also discussed.Monthana Weerawatanakorn Wei-Lun Hung Min-Hsiung Pan Shiming Li Daxiang Li Xiaochun Chi-Tang Ho 2015Food Science and Human Wellness2015,4,4:8
Improved Soft Abrasive Flow Finishing Method Based on Turbulent Kinetic Energy Enhancing显示文摘Soft abrasive flow(SAF) finishing can process the irregular geometric surfaces, but with the matter of low processing efficiency. To address the issue, an improved SAF finishing method based on turbulent kinetic energy enhancing is proposed. A constrained flow passage with serration cross-section is constructed to increase the turbulence intensity. Taking the constrained flow passage as the objective, a two-phase fluid dynamic model is set up by using particle trajectory model and standard k-e turbulence model, and the flow field characteristics of the flow passage are acquired. The numerical results show that the serration flow passage can enhance the turbulence intensity, uniform the particles distribution, and increase the particle concentration near the bottom wall. The observation results by particle image velocimetry(PIV) show that the internal vortex structures are formed in flow passage, and the abrasive flow takes on turbulence concentrating phenomenon in near-wall region. The finishing experiments prove that the proposed method can obtain better surface uniformity, and the processing efficiency can be improved more 35%. This research provides an abrasive flow modeling method to reveal the particle motion regulars, and can offer references to the technical optimization of fluid-based precision processing.Jun LI Shiming JI Dapeng TAN 2017Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2017,30,2:8
Speciation of organic phosphorus in a sediment profile of Lake Taihu I:Chemical forms and their transformation显示文摘Organic phosphorus(nonreactive P,NRP)is a major component of P in sediments, but information about its chemical forms and dynamic transformation is limited. The chemical forms and dynamic behaviors of NRP in a sediment profile from Lake Taihu,a freshwater and eutrophic lake in China, were investigated.Five forms of NRP in the sediments were extracted based on a chemical fractionation technique, including easily labile NRP(NaHCO3-NRP),reactive metal oxide-bound NRP(HCl-NRP),humic acid-associated NRP(NaOH-NRPHA),fulvic acid-associated NRP(NaOH-NRPFA)and residual NRP(Res-TP).There were notable transformations with increasing sediment depth from the labile NaHCO3-NRP and NaOH-NRP pools to the recalcitrant HCl-NRP and Res-TP pools, which caused the NRP to become increasingly recalcitrant as the early diagenetic processes proceeded.Further analyses showed that the relative changes in contents of organic matter and reactive Fe oxides in the sediment profile triggered a competition for binding NRP fractions and led to the transformation of NRP.The results highlighted the importance of abiotic processes in regulating the diagenesis of organic P and its stability in sediments.Di Xu Shiming Ding Bin Li Xiuling Bai Chengxin Fan Chaosheng Zhang 2013Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,4:7
Inhibition of citrus flavonoids on 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol 13-acetate-induced skin inflammation and tumorigenesis in mice显示文摘The inhibitory effects of a formulated product from citrus peel extract,Gold Lotion(GL),on 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol 13-acetate(TPA)-induced expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS)and cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2)in mouse skin was reported in this study. It is found that in the TPA-induced skin inflammation model, the topical application of GL effectively inhibited the transcriptional activation of iNOS and its mRNA and protein in mouse skin.It is also discovered that GL significantly inhibited TPA-induced mouse skin inflammation by decreasing inflammatory gene parameters.Furthermore,GL dramatically inhibited 7,12-dimethylbenez[a]anthracene(DMBA)/TPA-induced skin tumor formation and reduced tumor incidence, tumor weight and tumor multiplicity of papillomas at 20 weeks. In essence, these in vivo data have revealed that GL is an effective anti-tumor agent that functions by down-regulating the protein levels of COX-2,ornithine decarboxylase(ODC),and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)in mouse skin, suggesting that GL is a novel functional natural product capable of preventing inflammation-associated tumorigenesis.©2012 Production and hosting by Elsevier B.V.on behalf of Beijing Academy of Food Sciences.Min-Hsiung Pan Shiming Li Ching-Shu Lai Yutaka Miyauchi Michiko Suzawa Chi-Tang Ho 2012Food Science and Human Wellness2012,1,1:7
Parameters Optimization of a Novel 5-DOF Gasbag Polishing Machine Tool显示文摘The research on the parameters optimization for gasbag polishing machine tools, mainly aims at a better kinematics performance and a design scheme. Serial structural arm is mostly employed in gasbag polishing machine tools at present, but it is disadvantaged by its complexity, big inertia, and so on. In the multi-objective parameters optimization, it is very difficult to select good parameters to achieve excellent performance of the mechanism. In this paper, a statistics parameters optimization method based on index atlases is presented for a novel 5-DOF gasbag polishing machine tool. In the position analyses, the structure and workspace for a novel 5-DOF gasbag polishing machine tool is developed, where the gasbag polishing machine tool is advantaged by its simple structure, lower inertia and bigger workspace. In the kinematics analyses, several kinematics performance evaluation indices of the machine tool are proposed and discussed, and the global kinematics performance evaluation atlases are given. In the parameters optimization process, considering the assembly technique, a design scheme of the 5-DOF gasbag polishing machine tool is given to own better kinematics performance based on the proposed statistics parameters optimization method, and the global linear isotropic performance index is 0.5, the global rotational isotropic performance index is 0.5, the global linear velocity transmission performance index is 1.012 3 m/s in the case of unit input matrix, the global rotational velocity transmission performance index is 0.102 7 rad/s in the case of unit input matrix, and the workspace volume is 1. The proposed research provides the basis for applications of the novel 5-DOF gasbag polishing machine tool, which can be applied to the modern industrial fields requiring machines with lower inertia, better kinematics transmission performance and better technological efficiency.LI Yanbiao TAN Dapeng WEN Donghui JI Shiming CAI Donghai 2013Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2013,26,4:7
Blunted nitric oxide regulation in Tibetans under high-altitude hypoxia显示文摘Nitric oxide(NO) is an important molecule for vasomotor tone, and elevated NO signaling was previously hypothesized as a unique and adaptive physiological change in highland Tibetans. However, there has been lack of NO data from Tibetans living at low altitude and lowlander immigrants living at high altitude, which is crucial to test this hypothesis. Here, through cross-altitude(1990–5018 m) and cross-population(Tibetans and Han Chinese) analyses of serum NO metabolites(NOx) of 2086 individuals, we demonstrate that although Tibetans have a higher serum NOx level compared to lowlanders, Han Chinese immigrants living at high altitude show an even higher level than Tibetans. Consequently, our data contradict the previous proposal of increased NO signaling as the unique adaptive strategy in Tibetans.Instead, Tibetans have a relatively lower circulating NOx level at high altitude. This observation is further supported by data from the hypoxic experiments using human umbilical vein endothelial cells and gene knockout mice. No difference is detected between Tibetans and Han Chinese for endothelial nitric oxide synthase(e NOS), the key enzyme for circulating NO synthesis, suggesting that e NOS itself is unlikely to be the cause. We show that other NO synthesis-related genes(e.g. GCH1) carry Tibetan-enriched mutations significantly associated with the level of circulating NOx in Tibetans. Furthermore, gene network analysis revealed that the downregulation and upregulation of NOx is possibly achieved through distinct pathways.Collectively, our findings provide novel insights into the physiological and genetic mechanisms of the evolutionary adaptation of Tibetans to high-altitude hypoxia.Yaoxi He Xuebin Qi Ouzhuluobu Shiming Liu Jun Li Hui Zhang Baimakangzhuo Caijuan Bai Wangshan Zheng Yongbo Guo Duojizhuoma Baimayangji Dejiquzong Bianba Gonggalanzi Yongyue Pan Qula Kangmin Cirenyangji Wei Guo Yangla Yi Peng Xiaoming Zhang Kun Xiang Zhaohui Yang Liangbang Wang Gengdeng Yanfeng Zhang Tianyi Wu Bing Su Chaoying Cui 2018National Science Review2018,5,4:7
Feature analysis of LIDAR waveforms from forest canopies显示文摘Airborne light detection and ranging (LIDAR) can detect the three-dimensional structure of forest canopies by transmitting laser pulses and receiving returned waveforms which contain backscatter from branches and leaves at different heights. We established a solid scatterer model to explain the widened durations found in analyzing the relationship between laser pulses and forest canopies, and obtained the corresponding rule between laser pulse duration and scatterer depth.Based on returned waveform characteristics, scatterers were classified into three types:simple, solid and complex. We developed single-peak derivative and multiple-peak derivative analysis methods to retrieve waveform features and discriminate between scatterer types.Solid scatterer simulations showed that the returned waveforms were widened as scatterer depth increased, and as space between sub-scatterers increased the returned waveforms developed two peaks which subsequently developed into two separate sub-waveforms.There were slight differences between the durations of simulated and measured waveforms.LIDAR waveform data are able to describe the backscatter characteristics of forest canopies, and have potential to improve the estimation accuracy of forest parameters.LIU QingWang LI ZengYuan CHEN ErXue PANG Yong LI ShiMing TIAN Xin 2011Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,8:6
Anti-inflammatory effects of characterized orange peel extracts enriched with bioactive polymethoxyflavones显示文摘In view of the potential of polymethoxyflavones(PMFs)and hydroxylated PMFs(OH-PMFs)as bioactives against inflammation,we prepared six different orange peel extracts(OPEs).The major compounds of these extracts were characterized and quantified by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC).Effects on inflammation were analyzed by nutrigenomics using a human cell-based TPA-induced monocyte–macrophage differentiation model employing U-937 cells and inflammatory surrogate genes.Dose response and kinetics analysis of OPEs with different chemical profiles revealed less cytotoxic effects of PMFs as compared to OH-PMFs as demonstrated by the MTT-method.Noteworthy,a comparison of two PMF members such as 3,5,6,7,3,4-hexamethoxyflavone(HexaMF)and 3,5,6,7,8,3,4-heptamethoxyflavone(HeptaMF)exhibited less cytotoxic effects of HeptaMF as compared to HexaMF.A specific OPE enriched with HeptaMF,PMFs and OH-PMFs at low concentrations(10g/mL)significantly down-regulated the expression of a panel of genes involved in inflammatory response, including COX-2,TNF-α,ICAM-1,NFκB,IL-1β,IL-6,and IL-8 with an inflammatory index of−0.55.The strong anti-inflammatory effects were then validated in a mouse carrageenan-induced paw edema model.Oral intake of OPE reduced paw edema significantly in a dose-dependent manner.Importantly,a dosage of 250 mg/kg gave an anti-inflammatory effect comparable to ibuprofen.A preliminary clinical study showed that OPE was well tolerated showing no adverse side effects. In summary, enrichment of phyto extracts such as OPEs with specific polymethoxyflavones as anti-inflammatory bioactives is a promising strategy to find naturally derived extracts that are effective against diseases associated with inflammation.©2014 Beijing Academy of Food Sciences.Production and hosting by Elsevier B.V.All rights reserved.Alexander Gosslau Kuang Yu Chen Chi-Tang Ho Shiming Li 2014Food Science and Human Wellness2014,3,1:5
