1Evaluation of modifi ed Alvarado scoring system and RIPASA scoring system as diagnostic tools of acute appendicitis显示文摘BACKGROUND: Acute appendicitis is the most common surgical condition presented in emergency departments worldwide. Clinical scoring systems, such as the Alvarado and modified Alvarado scoring systems, were developed with the goal of reducing the negative appendectomy rate to 5%–10%. The Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Appendicitis(RIPASA) scoring system was established in 2008 specif ically for Asian populations. The aim of this study was to compare the modif ied Alvarado with the RIPASA scoring system in Kuwait population.METHODS: This study included 180 patients who underwent appendectomies and were documented as having 'acute appendicitis' or 'abdominal pain' in the operating theatre logbook(unit B) from November 2014 to March 2016. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value(PPV), negative predictive value(NPV), diagnostic accuracy, predicted negative appendectomy and receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve of the modified Alvarado and RIPASA scoring systems were derived using SPSS statistical software.RESULTS: A total of 136 patients were included in this study according to our criteria. The cut-off threshold point of the modif ied Alvarado score was set at 7.0, which yielded a sensitivity of 82.8% and a specif icity of 56%. The PPV was 89.3% and the NPV was 42.4%. The cut-off threshold point of the RIPASA score was set at 7.5, which yielded a 94.5% sensitivity and an 88% specif icity. The PPV was 97.2% and the NPV was 78.5%. The predicted negative appendectomy rates were 10.7% and 2.2% for the modif ied Alvarado and RIPASA scoring systems, respectively. The negative appendectomy rate decreased significantly, from 18.4% to 10.7% for the modified Alvarado, and to 2.2% for the RIPASA scoring system, which was a signif icant difference(P<0.001) for both scoring systems.CONCLUSION: Based on the results of this study, the RIPASA score is a simple scoring system with better sensitivity and specif icity than the modif ied Alvarado scoring system in Asian populations. It consists of 14 clinical parameters that can be obtained from a good patient history, clinical examination and laboratory investigations. 3Adjuvant treatment for triple-negative breast cancer: a retrospective study of immunotherapy with autologous cytokine-induced killer cells in 294 patients显示文摘Objective: To examine the efficacy and safety of a sequential combination of chemotherapy and autologous cytokine-induced killer(CIK) cell treatment in triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC) patients.Methods: A total of 294 post-surgery TNBC patients participated in the research from January 1, 2009 to January 1, 2015. After adjuvant chemotherapy, autologous CIK cells were introduced in 147 cases(CIK group), while adjuvant chemotherapy alone was used to treat the remaining 147 cases(control group). The major endpoints of the investigation were the disease-free survival(DFS) and overall survival(OS). Additionally, the side effects of the treatment were evaluated.Results: In the CIK group, the DFS and OS intervals of the patients were significantly longer than those of the control group(DFS:P = 0.047;OS: P = 0.007). The multivariate analysis demonstrated that the TNM(tumor-node-metastasis) stage and adjuvant CIK treatment were independent prognostic factors for both DFS [hazard ratio(HR)= 0.520, 95% confidence interval(CI):0.271-0.998, P = 0.049;HR = 1.449, 95% CI:1.118-1.877, P = 0.005, respectively] and OS(HR=0.414, 95% CI:0.190-0.903, P = 0.027;HR= 1.581, 95% CI:1.204-2.077, P = 0.001, respectively) in patients with TNBC. Additionally, longer DFS and OS intervals were associated with increased number of CIK treatment cycles(DFS: P = 0.020;OS: P = 0.040). 4Determination of full-scale pore size distribution of Gaomiaozi bentonite and its permeability prediction显示文摘Gaomiaozi(GMZ)bentonite is a potential buffer/backfill material for a deep geological disposal of highlevel radioactive waste.It has a wide pore size distribution(PSD)with sizes ranging from several nanometers to more than one hundred microns.Thus,properly characterizing the pore structures of GMZ bentonite is a challenging issue.In this study,pressure-controlled porosimetry(PCP),ratecontrolled porosimetry(RCP),and scanning electron microscopy(SEM)were used to investigate the PSD of GMZ bentonite,The results indicate that each method has its limitation,and a combined use of PCP and RCP is suitable to obtain the full-scale PSD of GMZ bentonite.Moreover,we also compared the full-scale PSD with nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)result.It is found that there is no significant difference in the range of PSD characterization between NMR and mercury intrusion method(PCP and RCP).However,in a ce rtain range,the detection accuracy of NMR is higher than that of mercury injection method.Finally,permeability prediction based on PCP and SEM data was conducted,and both of the two methods were found to be able to predict the permeability.The combined method is effective to obtain the full-scale PSD of GMZ bentonite,which is the key to estimation of the sealing ability of bentonite buffer.Jiangfeng Liu Shuaibing Song Xulou Cao Qingbin Meng Hai Pu Yangguang Wang Jianfeng Liu 2020Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2020,12,2:5
5A case study of regional eco-hydrological characteristics in the Tao River Basin, northwestern China, based on evapotranspiration estimated by a coupled Budyko Equation-crop coefficient approach显示文摘In a case study in Tao River Basin, China, we derived a high spatial-resolution regional distribution of evapotranspiration(ET) using the single crop coefficient method and Budyko equation. We then further analyzed the spatio-temporal characteristics of this diverse eco-hydrological basin from 2001–2010. The results suggest that the single crop coefficient method based on leaf area index captures better spatial and temporal dynamics of the regional ET than did the Budyko Equation method. The rising temperature was the main reason for the increasing ET in the Tao River Basin during 2001–2010. Areas with high ET efficiency were distributed mainly in the areas where the vegetation coverage was high, and a lower runoff coefficient responded. 9Correlation of Gluten Molecular Conformation with Dough Viscoelastic Properties during Storage显示文摘Significant correlations exist for the total sample between the dough viscoelastic properties and quality, but little information about these links is available. This study investigates the relationship between the gluten molecular conformation and the dough viscoelastic properties of the Zhengmai 379 wheat variety with different relative humidity(RH) values during storage.The results showed that protein extractability, free sulfhydryl(SH) groups, and wet gluten contents decreased to a certain degree during storage, while the glutenin quantity significantly varied. Significant negative correlation coefficients were found between the dough viscosity at 50% RH and the β-turn contents at 40% RH(-0.918) or 60% RH(-0.949)(P < 0.01), the dough viscosity at50% RH and the β-turn contents at 50% RH(-0.912)(P < 0.05), and the dough viscosity at 50% RH and the α-helix/β-sheet ratio at 40% RH(-0.875), 50% RH(-0.869), or 60% RH(-0.843)(P < 0.05). Significant correlation coefficients were further observed between the dough viscosity at 50% RH and the β-sheet contents at 60% RH(0.927)(P < 0.01) and between the dough viscosity at50% RH and the β-sheet contents at 40% RH(0.910) or 50% RH(0.908)(P < 0.05). 11Obstructive jaundice due to a rare periampullary tumor显示文摘Gangliocytic paraganglioma is a rare neuroendocrine tumor predominantly arising in the second part of the duodenum with rare local recurrence or metastasis to regional lymph nodes.A 92-year-old female presented with obstructive jaundice.On exam she had pale conjunctiva and icteric sclera.Abdominal examination revealed tenderness in the upper abdomen.Laboratory data was consistent with obstructive jaundice.Computed tomography of the abdomen revealed a dilated gall bladder and a common bile duct(CBD)with no evidence of liver lesions or pancreatic head mass.Endoscopic ultrasonography revealed a 1 cm isoechoic submucosal nodule at the periampullary area,dilated CBD(9 mm),a prominent pancreatic duct(4.1 mm)and a hydropic gall bladder with no stones.Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreaticography was performed to relieve obstruction and showed a 1 cm periampullary mass which underwent an en-bloc snare resection.Histopathology analyses with immunohistochemical stains were positive for cytokeratin,synaptophysin,S-100 protein,neuron specific enolase and negative for actin and desmin consistent with periampullary gangliocytic paraganglioma.Periampullary gangliocytic paraganglioma is a rare benign tumor of the small bowel.Common presentation includes abdominal pain and obstructive jaundice which should be included in differential diagnosis of obstructive jaundice.Endoscopic resection is a curative therapy in the absence of local invasion or distant metastasis.Anjana Sathyamurthy Abhishek Choudhary Dennis Ng Shuaib Okponobi Alberto Diaz-Arias Ajitinder Grewal Ghassan M Hammoud 2013World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2013,5,10:2

13Investigation progresses of rare earth complexes as emitters or sensitizers in organic light-emitting diodes显示文摘Due to unique photo-physical characteristics,rare earth(RE)complexes play important roles in many fields,for example,telecommunications,life science,and organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs).Especially,thanks to narrow emission bandwidth and 100%theoretical internal quantum efficiency(IQE),the study of RE complexes in the electroluminescence field has been a hot research topic in recent 30 years.As a leading technology in solid-state light source fields,OLEDs have attracted great interest from academic researchers and commercial endeavors.In the last decades,OLED-based products have trickled into the commercial market and developed quickly into portable display devices.Here,we briefly introduce the luminescent characteristics and electroluminescent(EL)study of RE complexes in material synthesis and device design.Moreover,we emphatically reveal the innovative application of RE complexes as sensitizers in OLEDs.Through experimental validation,the application of RE complexes as sensitizers can realize the complementary advantages of RE complexes and transition metal complexes,leading to significantly improved performances of OLEDs.The application of RE complexes as sensitizers provides a new strategy for designing and developing novel high performances OLEDs.Shuaibing Li Liang Zhou Hongjie Zhang 2022Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,7:2
14Morbidity Analysis of the Notifiable Infectious Diseases in China,2018显示文摘Introduction Notifiable infectious disease surveillance is important for understanding the trends in morbidity for certain diseases,especially detection of acute infectious disease outbreaks and changing epidemiology.A web-based reporting system was deployed in January 2004,which has improved data collection and speed tremendously.This report provides an updated analysis for reports published in 2013 and 2015.Methods Data from the National Notifiable Disease Reporting System(NNDRS)was used.The NNRDS shows data from 39 notifiable diseases split into three categories(A,B,and C)based on severity and importance.A descriptive analysis was conducted to analyze the morbidity of notifiable diseases in China.Results In 2018,the morbidity of national notifiable diseases was 559.41 per 100,000 population,an increase of 12.88% compared with the average of 2015–2017.The proportion of laboratory confirmed cases was 36.22%,which decreased 4.03% compared with the average of that in the recent three years.Diseases transmitted by direct contact/fecal–oral transmission accounted for the largest proportion,49.37% of the total reported cases,followed by the respiratory transmitted diseases,blood-borne/sexually transmitted diseases,and the zoonotic and vectorborne diseases with a proportion of 25.18%,24.60%,and 0.85%,respectively.Pathogenic descriptive analysis showed that the viral-infected cases accounted for 73.78% of the totals,followed by the bacterialinfected and parasitic diseases.Conclusion The national morbidity of notifiable infectious diseases showed increases in 2018,mostly due to higher morbidity of category C diseases,such as HFMD,infectious diarrhea,and influenza,and these diseases need to be further prioritized in disease control and prevention efforts.Laboratory confirmed cases remain low and need to be improved to improve data quality.Shuaibing Dong Xiang Ren Cuihong Zhang Mengjie Geng Yuliang Zhu Lusha Shi Lijie Zhang Zhongjie Li Liping Wang 2019China CDC weekly2019,1,4:2
