1Degradation of bisphenol-A using ultrasonic irradiation assisted by low-concentration hydrogen peroxide显示文摘This study investigated the degradation of bisphenol-A (BPA) by ultrasonic irradiation in the presence of different additives (H2O2,air bubbles and humic acid) under various operating conditions,i.e.,ultrasonic frequency,power intensity and power density.The results demonstrated that the BPA degradation followed pseudo first-order kinetics under different experimental conditions.The optimum power intensities were 0.9,1.8,and 3.0W/cm 2 at the frequencies of 400,670,and 800 kHz,respectively.At the fixed frequency (800 kHz),the degradation rate of BPA was shown proportional to the increase of power density applied.With this manner,the BPA sonolysis could be facilitated at H2O2 dosage being lower than 0.1 mmol/L;while BPA degradation was hindered at H2O2 concentration in excess of 1 mmol/L.Additionally,BPA removal was shown to be inhibited by the presence of aeration and humic acid during ultrasonic irradiation.The present study suggested that the degradation rate of BPA assisted by ultrasonic irradiation was influenced by a variety of factors,and high BPA removal rate could be achieved under appropriate conditions.Kejia Zhang Naiyun Gao Yang Deng Tsair Fuh Lin Yan Ma Lei Li Minghao Sui 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,1:9

6Kinetics of Ozonation of Typical Sulfonamides in Water显示文摘Objective To investigate the kinetic rate constants ozone and hydroxyl radicals towards two groups of antimicrobials-sulfadiazine (SD) and sulfamethoxazole (SMX).Methods The solute consumption method was used to detect the rate constants of ozone alone with sulfadiazine and sulfamethoxazole,and tertiary butanol was selected as a scavenging agent and pH was adjusted to 2.5 by adding orthophosphate buffers (OB);and the competition kinetics studying methodwith nitrobenzene as a reference was applied to measure the rate constants of hydroxyl radicals towards sulfadiazine and sulfamethoxazole,and pH was adjusted to 7.0 by adding OB.Results The rate constants of SD and SMX with ozone alone were 261 mol ‐1 dm 3 s ‐1 and 303 mol ‐1 dm3 s ‐1 by calculating in low reaction system.The rate constants of hydroxyl radicals with SD and SMX were 2.2×1010 mol ‐1 dm 3 s ‐1 and 2.7×1010 mol ‐1 dm 3 s ‐1,respectively.Moreover,the rate constants of hydroxyl radicals with SMX were found to have increased from 3.6×109 mol ‐1 dm 3 s ‐1 to 2.8×1010 mol ‐1 dm 3 s ‐1 with pH value rising from 5.0 to 7.8.Conclusion SMX and SD are both refractory to ozone oxidation alone,and are liable to be degraded by hydroxyl radicals,and the rate constants of SMX with the hydroxyl radical slightly increases with pH rise.SUI MingHao XING SiChu ZHU ChunYan SHENG Li LU KeXiang GAO NaiYun 2011Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2011,24,3:1

9Floating Escherichia coli by Expressing Cyanobacterial Gas Vesicle Genes显示文摘Gas vesicles are hollow, air-filled polyprotein structures that provide the buoyancy to cells. They are found in a variety of prokaryotes. In this study, we isolated a partial gas vesicle protein gene cluster containing gvp A and gvp C20Ψ from Planktothrix rubescens, and inserted it into an expression vector and expressed it in E. coli. The gas vesicle was developed in bacterial cells, which made bacterial cells to float on medium surface. We also amplified gvp A and gvp C20Ψ separately and synthesized an artificial operon by fusing these two genes with the standardized gene expression controlling elements of E. coli. The artificial operon was expressed in E. coli, forming gas vesicles and floating bacteria cells. Our findings verified that the whole set of genes and the overall structure of gas vesicle gene cluster are not necessary for developing gas vesicles in bacteria cells. Two genes, gvp A and gvp C20Ψ, of the gas vesicle gene cluster are sufficient for synthesizing an artificial operon that can develop gas vesicles in bacteria cells.
