Antimicrobial activity of Cannabis sativa,Thuja orientalis and Psidium guajava leaf extracts against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus显示文摘Objective: This study examined the antimicrobial activity of Cannabis sativa, Thuja orientalis and Psidium guajava against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA) and used a standardized purification protocol to determine the presence and abundance of bioactive compounds in the leaf extracts. Methods: In vitro antimicrobial activities of the ethanolic extracts of C. sativa, T. orientalis and P. guajava were tested against MRSA. The presence of bioactive molecules in these three leaves was evaluated using biochemical assays and high-performance thin-layer chromatography(HPTLC).Results: Resistance to methicillin, penicillin, oxacillin and cefoxitin was observed in each of the clinical and nonclinical MRSA isolates. However, they were still vulnerable to vancomycin. Used individually, the 50% extract of each plant leaf inhibited MRSA growth. A profound synergism was observed when C. sativa was used in combination with T. orientalis(1:1) and when P. guajava was used in combination with T. orientalis(1:1). This was shown by larger zones of inhibition. This synergism was probably due to the combined inhibitory effect of phenolics present in the leaf extracts(i.e., quercetin and gallic acid)and catechin, as detected by HPTLC.Conclusion: The leaf extracts of C. sativa, T. orientalis and P. guajava had potential for the control of both hospital-and community-acquired MRSA. Moreover, the inhibitory effect was enhanced when extracts were used in combination. | Shohini Chakraborty Nashra Afaq Neelam Singh Sukanta Majumdar | 2018 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2018,16,5: | 7
Properties of boron doped ZnO films prepared by reactive sputtering method: Application to amorphous silicon thin film solar cells显示文摘Reactive sputtered boron-doped zinc oxide(BZO) film was deposited from argon, hydrogen and boron gas mixture. The reactive sputtering technique provides us the flexibility of changing the boron concentration in the produced films by using the same intrinsic zinc oxide target.Textured surface was obtained in the as-deposited films. The surface morphology and the opto-electronic properties of the films can be controlled by simply varying the gas concentration ratio.By varying the gas concentration ratio, the best obtained resistivity ~6.51×10^-4Ω-cm,mobility ~19.05 cm^2 V^-1 s^-1 and sheet resistance ~7.23Ω/□ were obtained. At lower wavelength of light, the response of the deposited films improves with the increase of boron in the gas mixture and the overall transmission in the wavelength region 350-1100 nm of all the films are>85 %.We also fabricated amorphous silicon(a-Si) thin film solar cell on the best obtained BZO layers. The overall efficiency of the a-Si solar cell is 8.14 %,found on optimized BZO layer. | Sukanta Bose Sourav Mandal Asok K.Barua Sumita Mukhopadhyay | 2020 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,52,20: | 6
Gravitational wave astrophysics, data analysis and multimessenger astronomy显示文摘This paper reviews gravitational wave sources and their detection. One of the most exciting potential sources of gravitational waves are coalescing binary black hole systems. They can occur on all mass scales and be formed in numerous ways, many of which are not understood. They are generally invisible in electromagnetic waves, and they provide opportunities for deep investigation of Einstein's general theory of relativity. Sect. 1 of this paper considers ways that binary black holes can be created in the universe, and includes the prediction that binary black hole coalescence events are likely to be the first gravitational wave sources to be detected. The next parts of this paper address the detection of chirp waveforms from coalescence events in noisy data.Such analysis is computationally intensive. Sect. 2 reviews a new and powerful method of signal detection based on the GPUimplemented summed parallel infinite impulse response filters. Such filters are intrinsically real time alorithms, that can be used to rapidly detect and localise signals. Sect. 3 of the paper reviews the use of GPU processors for rapid searching for gravitational wave bursts that can arise from black hole births and coalescences. In sect. 4 the use of GPU processors to enable fast efficient statistical significance testing of gravitational wave event candidates is reviewed. Sect. 5 of this paper addresses the method of multimessenger astronomy where the discovery of electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational wave events can be used to identify sources, understand their nature and obtain much greater science outcomes from each identified event. | LEE Hyung Mok LE BIGOT Eric-Olivier DU ZhiHui LIN ZhangXi GUO XiangYu WEN LinQing PHUKON Khun Sang PANDEY Vihan BOSE Sukanta FAN Xi-Long HENDRY Martin | 2015 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2015,58,12: | 5
Automatic Classification of Cardiac Arrhythmias Based on Hybrid Features and Decision Tree Algorithm显示文摘Accurate classification of cardiac arrhythmias is a crucial task because of the non-stationary nature of electrocardiogram(ECG)signals. In a life-threatening situation,an automated system is necessary for early detection of beat abnormalities in order to reduce the mortality rate.In this paper,we propose an automatic classification system of ECG beats based on the multi-domain features derived from the ECG signals. The experimental study was evaluated on ECG signals obtained from the MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database. The feature set comprises eight empirical mode decomposition(EMD)based features, three features from variational mode decomposition(VMD)and four features from RR intervals. In total,15 features are ranked according to a ranker search approach and then used as input to the support vector machine(SVM)and C4.5 decision tree classifiers for classifying six types of arrhythmia beats. The proposed method achieved best result in C4.5 decision tree classifier with an accuracy of 98.89%compared to cubic-SVM classifier which achieved an accuracy of 95.35%only.Besides accuracy measures, all other parameters such as sensitivity(Se),specificity(Sp)and precision rates of 95.68%,99.28%and 95.8%was achieved better in C4.5 classifier. Also the computational time of 0.65 s with an error rate of 0.11 was achieved which is very less compared to SVM.The multi-domain based features with decision tree classifier obtained the best results in classifying cardiac arrhythmias hence the system could be used efficiently in clinical practices. | Santanu Sahoo Asit Subudhi Manasa Dash Sukanta Sabut | 2020 | International Journal of Automation and computing2020,17,4: | 2
Understanding Brown Planthopper Resistance in Rice: Genetics, Biochemical and Molecular Breeding Approaches显示文摘Brown planthopper(BPH,Nilaparvata lugens St自I)is the most devastating pest of rice in Asia and causes significant yield loss annually.Around 37 BPH resistance genes have been identified so far in indica,African rice varieties along with wild germplasms such as Oryza officinalis,O.minuta,O.nivara,O.punctata,O.rufipogon and O,latifolia.Genes/QTLs involved in BPH resistance, including Bph1,bph2/BPH26,Bph3,Bph6,bph7,BPH9,Bph12,Bph14,Bph15,Bph17,BPH18,bph19,Bph20,Bph21(t),Bph27,Bph27©Bph28(t),BPH29,QBph3,QBph4,QBph4.2,Bph30,Bph32,Bph33,Bph35 and Bph36,have been fine-mapped by different researchers across the globe. The majority of genes/QTLs are located on rice chromosomes 1,3,4,6,11 and 12.Rice plants respond to BPH attack by releasing various endogenous metabolites like proteinase inhibitors, callose, secondary metabolites(terpenes, alkaloids, flavonoid, etc.)and volatile compounds.Besides that, hormonal signal pathways mediating(antagonistic/synergistic)resista nee responses in rice have been well studied.Marker-assisted breedi ng and genome editi ng techniq ues can also be adopted for improving resista nee to novel BPH biotypes. | Lakesh MUDULI Sukanta Kumar PRADHAN Abinash MISHRA Debendra Nath BASTIA Kailash Chandra SAMAL Pawan Kumar AGRAWAL Manasi DASH | 2021 | Rice science2021,28,6: | 2
Petrogenesis of Two Types of Archean TTGs in the North China Craton:A Case Study of Intercalated TTGs in Lushan and Non-intercalated TTGs in Hengshan显示文摘TTG(Tonalite-Trondhjemite-Granodiorite) gneisses,a major component of Precambrian continental crust, play a significant role in understanding the process and mechanism of the crustal evolution in the early periods of the Earth. In terms of field occurrence, there are two kinds of Archean TTGs in the NCC(North China Craton): intercalated and non-intercalated TTGs. In this contribution,we make a comprehensive comparison of these two types of TTGs from the typical areas(Lushan and Hengshan) in the NCC with an aim to constrain their petrogenesis. The results suggest that they have similar mineral assemblages of Pl + Qtz + Bt ± Amp ± Kfs but different field appearances and geochemical compositions, thus probably reflecting different source materials and tectonic settings. Differences in the contents of characteristic elements, such as Sr,REE and HFSE,suggest that the nonintercalated TTGs in Hengshan were generated at deeper levels than those of intercalated TTGs in Lushan. Constraints from element contents and geochemical modeling results are consistent with derivation from dual sources involving both garnet amphibolite and rutile-bearing eclogite residues for the non-intercalated TTGs in Hengshan, whereas the compositions of intercalated TTGs in Lushan indicate that they were formed by partial melting with amphibolite to garnet-amphibolite residues. Moreover, accumulation of plagioclase is also required in the petrogenesis of intercalated TTGs in Lushan,at least for part of them. In addition, the non-intercalated TTGs in Hengshan display distinctly higher Mg O,Mg#,Cr and Ni values and lower SiO_2 average contents compared to the intercalated TTGs in Lushan. These features suggest that the former magma,at least a part, might have interacted with the mantle wedge during ascent. Considering all the above factors and in combination with the whole-rock Nd and zircon Hf isotopic data,it is suggested that the non-intercalated TTGs in Hengshan were produced by partial melting of subducted slab contaminated by the overlying mantle wedge at deeper levels and high pressures, whereas the intercalated TTGs in Lushan were generated by melting of the thickened lower crust at lower pressures and shallower depths. The tectonic settings of the two types of TTGs shed new light on the growth of the NCC. | SHAN Houxiang ZHAI Mingguo DEY Sukanta | 2016 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2016,90,6: | 2
mLBOA:A Modified Butterfly Optimization Algorithm with Lagrange Interpolation for Global Optimization显示文摘Though the Butterfly Bptimization Algorithm(BOA)has already proved its effectiveness as a robust optimization algorithm,it has certain disadvantages. So,a new variant of BOA,namely mLBOA,is proposed here to improve its performance. The proposed algorithm employs a self-adaptive parameter setting,Lagrange interpolation formula, and a new local search strategy embedded with Levy flight search to enhance its searching ability to make a better trade-off between exploration and exploitation. Also, the fragrance generation scheme of BOA is modified, which leads for exploring the domain effectively for better searching. To evaluate the performance,it has been applied to solve the IEEE CEC 2017 benchmark suite. The results have been compared to that of six state-of-the-art algorithms and five BOA variants. Moreover, various statistical tests, such as the Friedman rank test,Wilcoxon rank test, convergence analysis, and complexity analysis, have been conducted to justify the rank, significance, and complexity of the proposed mLBOA.Finally, the mLBOA has been applied to solve three real-world engineering design problems. From all the analyses,it has been found that the proposed mLBOA is a competitive algorithm compared to other popular state-of-the-art algorithms and BOA variants. | Sushmita Sharma Sanjoy Chakraborty Apu Kumar Saha Sukanta Nama Saroj Kumar Sahoo | 2022 | Journal of Bionic Engineering2022,19,4: | 2
A new cache of Eoarchaean detrital zircons from the Singhbhum craton, eastern India and constraints on early Earth geodynamics显示文摘The dominant geodynamic processes that underpin the formation and evolution of Earth’s early crust remain enigmatic calling for new information from less studied ancient cratonic nuclei. Here,we present U-Pb ages and Hf isotopic compositions of detrital zircon grains from^2.9 Ga old quartzites and magmatic zircon from a 3.505 Ga old dacite from the Iron Ore Group of the Singhbhum craton, eastern India. The detrital zircon grains range in age between 3.95 Ga and 2.91 Ga.Together with the recently reported Hadean,Eoarchean xenocrystic(up to 4.24 Ga)and modem detritus zircon grains from the Singhbhum craton, our results suggest that the Eoarchean detrital zircons represent crust generated by recycling of Hadean felsic crust formed at^4.3-4.2 Ga and^3.95 Ga.We observe a prominent shift in Hf isotope compositions at^3.6-3.5 Ga towards super-chondritic values, which signify an increased role for depleted mantle and the relevance of plate tectonics. The Paleo-,Mesoarchean zircon Hf isotopic record in the craton indicates crust generation involving the role of both depleted and enriched mantle sources. We infer a short-lived suprasubduction setting around^3.6-3.5 Ga followed by mantle plume activity during the Paleo-,Mesoarchean crust formation in the Singhbhum craton. The Singhbhum craton provides an additional repository for Earth’s oldest materials. | Bulusu Sreenivas Sukanta Dey Y.J. | 9 | Pressure recovery characteristics for a dilute gas-particle suspension flowing vertically downward in a pipe with a sudden expansion: A two-fluid modeling approach显示文摘This work applies the Eulerian-Eulerian model in conjunction with the kinetic theory of granular flow and inter-particle collisions to study the characteristics of pressure recovery for a dilute gas-particle suspension flowing through a pipe with a sudden expansion at a relatively higher solid loading. To do so,the numerical procedure was validated against experimental results for relatively small dilute phase flows in a pipe with a sudden expansion;a satisfactory agreement was obtained.Initially, the effect of the two significant numerical parameters namely, the speculairty coefficient and the coefficient of restitution for particle-particle collisions were investigated and then, for fixed combinations of these parameters the effect of particle-phase volume fraction, particle density, particle size, and inlet slip ratio were studied. It was concluded that pressure recovery diminishes as the speculairty coefficient increases and the particle-particle coefficient of restitution decreases.Pressure recovery was found to increase with increasing solid volume fraction for coarse particles whereas, for fine particles,a critical volume fraction is obtained above which pressure recovery reduces. An increase in slip ratio is found to diminish pressure recovery.Similarly,at relatively higher solid volume fractions,a critical diameter was found, above and below which pressure recovery decreases. | Santosh Kumar Senapati Sukanta Kumar Dash | 2020 | Particuology2020,18,3: | 2

Two types of uranium mineralization in Gulcheru quartzite:Fracture-controlled in Ambakapalle area and litho-controlled in Tummalapalle area,Cuddapah Basin,Andhra Pradesh,India显示文摘The Cuddapah Basin in southern India has a potential for uranium mineralization due to some favorable factors such as its temporal, stratigraphic and tectonic settings. Systematic exploration program conducted by the Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD) within the Cuddapah Basin resulting in the recognition of distinct types of uranium mineralization, viz., strata bound type, fracture/shear-controlled type and tabular type. The Gulcheru Formation which is the lowermost unit of the Cuddapah Basin is dominantly arenitic in nature. During the exploration works, a number of uranium anomalies were identified with dimensions ranging from 1 m to 1.5 km. Gulcheru quartzite hosted uranium mineralization is intermittent and inconsistent in nature. The anomalous outcrops are distributed over a strike length of ca. 60 km between Gandi in the SE and Ambakapallein the NW. Presently, two different types of uranium mineralization are characterized on the basis of field observations, mapping and structural interpretation, petro-mineralogy and geochemistry. Although the host rock is same for both types, the mechanism of uranium enrichment is totally different. The Ambakapalle uranium mineralization is controlled by fault zone and associated hydrothermal activity. Whereas, the Tummalapalle uranium mineralization is litho-controlled in nature influenced by suitable four ‘P’ factors, i.e., provenance, porositypermeability, precipitation and preservation. The geochemical characterization of Gulcheru quartzite suggest a passive margin type of provenance setting. Petro-mineralogically the quartz arenite suggests enough textural as well as mineralogical maturity. Ambakapalle quartzite is slightly strained and deformed due to faulting. Analysis of selected samples recorded 0.01% to 0.048% U3O8 and <0.01% ThO2. Petrographic observation revealed that the anomalies were appeared due to secondary uranium minerals occurring as surficial encrustations, fracture filling and lesser irregular patches. Structural analysis suggests the mineralization along E-W trace slip fault is possibly consistent in sub-surface. Tummalapalle quartzite is relatively less deformed arenitic in nature with significant enrichment in MREE. The genetic models for the two types of mineralization is totally different. | Sukanta Goswami Pradeep Kumar Upadhyay Bhaskaran Saravanan V Natarajan Mohan Babu Verma | 2019 | China Geology2019,2,2: | 1
