| 1 | Small sphincterotomy combined with endoscopic papillary large balloon dilation versus sphincterotomy显示文摘AIM:To compare small sphincterotomy combined with endoscopic papillary large balloon dilation(SES+ ELBD)and endoscopic sphincterotomy(EST)for large bile duct stones. METHODS:We compared prospectively SES+ELBD (group A,n=27)with conventional EST(group B, n=28)for the treatment of large bile duct stones(≥ 15 mm).When the stone could not be removed with a normal basket,mechanical lithotripsy was performed. We compared the rates of complete stone removal with one session and application of mechanical lithotripsy. | 2 | Prevalence of clonorchiasis in patients with gastrointestinal disease: A Korean nationwide multicenter survey显示文摘AIM: To investigate prevalence of Clonorchis sinensis in patients with gastrointestinal symptoms, and the relation of the infection to hepatobiliary diseases in 26 hospitals in Korea.METHODS: Consecutive patients who had been admitted to the Division of Gastroenterology with gastrointestinal symptoms were enrolled from March to April 2005. Of those who had been diagnosed with clonorchiasis, epidemiology and correlation between infection and hepatobiliary diseases were surveyed by questionnaire.RESULTS: Of 3080 patients with gastrointestinal diseases, 396 (12.9%) had clonorchiasis and 1140 patients (37.2%) had a history of eating raw freshwater fish. Of those with a history of raw freshwater fish ingestion, 238 (20.9%) patients had clonorchiasis. Cholangiocarcinoma was more prevalent in C. sinensis-infected patients than non-infected patients [34/396 (8.6%) vs 145/2684 (5.4%), P = 0.015]. Cholangiocarcinoma and clonorchiasis showed statistically significant positive cross-relation (P = 0.008). Choledocholithiasis, cholecystolithiasis, cholangitis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and biliary pancreatitis did not correlate with clonorchiasis.CONCLUSION: Infection rate of clonorchiasis was still high in patients with gastrointestinal diseases in Korea, and has not decreased very much during the last two decades. | 5 | Clinical significance and risk factors of postembolization fever in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM:To investigate tumor response and survival in patients with postembolization fever(PEF) and to determine the risk factors for PEF.METHODS:Four hundred forty-three hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) patients who underwent the first session of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE) between January 2005 and December 2009 were analyzed retrospectively.PEF was defined as a body temperature greater than 38.0 ℃ that developed within 3 d of TACE without evidence of infection.The tumor progression-free interval was defined as the interval from the first TACE to the second TACE based on mRECIST criteria.Clinical staging was based on the American Joint Committee on Cancer tumor,node,metastases(TNM) classification of malignant tumors.All patients were admitted before their 1 st TACE treatment,and blood samples were obtained from all patients before and after treatment.Clinicoradiological variables and host-related variables were compared between two groups:patients with PEF vs patients without PEF.Additionally,variables related to 20-mo mortality and tumor progression-free survival were analyzed.RESULTS:The study population comprised 370(85.4%) men and 73(14.6%) women with a mean age of 62.29 ± 10.35 years.A total of 1836 TACE sessions were conducted in 443 patients,and each patient received between 1 and 27(mean:4.14 ± 3.57) TACE sessions.The mean follow-up duration was 22.23 ± 19.6 mo(range:0-81 mo).PEF developed in 117 patients(26.41%) at the time of the first TACE session.PEF was not associated with 20-mo survival(P = 0.524) or computed tomography(CT) response(P = 0.413) in a univariate analysis.A univariate analysis further indicated that diffuse-type HCC(P = 0.021),large tumor size(≥ 5 cm)(P = 0.046),lipiodol dose(≥ 7 mL,P = 0.001),poor blood glucose control(P = 0.034),alanine aminotransferase(ALT) value after TACE(P = 0.004) and C-reactive protein(CRP) value after TACE(P = 0.036) served as possible risk factors correlated with PEF.The ALT value after TACE(P = 0.021) and lipiodol dose over 7 mL(P = 0.011) were independent risk factors for PEF in the multivariate analysis.For the 20-mo survival,poor blood sugar control(P < 0.001),portal vein thrombosis(P = 0.001),favorable CT response after TACE(P < 0.001),initial aspartate aminotransferase(P = 0.02),initial CRP(P = 0.042),tumor size(P < 0.001),TNM stage(P < 0.001) and lipiodol dose(P < 0.001) were possible risk factors in the univariate analysis.Tumor size(P = 0.03),poor blood sugar control(P = 0.043),and portal vein thrombosis(P = 0.031) were significant predictors of survival in the multivariate analysis.Furthermore,the tumor progression-free interval was closely associated with CRP > 1 mg/dL(P = 0.003),tumor size > 5 cm(P < 0.001),tumor type(poorly defined)(P < 0.001),and lipiodol dose(> 7 mL,P < 0.001).CONCLUSION:PEF has no impact on survival at 20 mo or radiologic response.However,the ALT level after TACE and the lipiodol dose represent significant risk factors for PEF. | Chung Hwan Jun Ho Seok Ki Hoon Ki Lee Kang Jin Park Seon Young Park Sung Bum Cho Chang Hwan Park Young Eun Joo Hyun Soo Kim Sung Kyu Choi Jong Sun Rew | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013，19，2： | 7 |

| 7 | Efficacy of hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM:To investigate the efficacy of hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy(HAIC) using floxuridine(FUDR) in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) confined to the liver.METHODS:Thirty-four patients who had advanced HCC with unresectability or unsuccessful previous therapy in the absence of extrahepatic metastasis were treated with intra-arterial FUDR chemotherapy at ourhospital between March 2005 and May 2008.Among the 34 patients,9 patients were classified as Child class C,and 18 patients had portal vein tumor thrombus(PVTT).One course of chemotherapy consisted of continuous infusion of FUDR(0.3 mg/kg during day 1-14) and dexamethasone(10 mg on day 1,4,7 and 11),and this treatment was repeated every 28 d.RESULTS:Two patients(5.9%) displayed a complete response,and 12 patients(35.3%) had a partial response.The tumor control rate was 61.8%.The median overall survival times were 15.3 mo,12.4 mo and 4.3 mo for the patients who were classified as Child class A,Child class B and Child class C,respectively(P = 0.0392).The progression-free survival was 12.9 mo,7.7 mo and 2.6 mo for the patients who were classified as Child class A,Child class B and Child class C,respectively(P = 0.0443).The cumulative survival differed significantly according to the Child-Pugh classification and the presence of PVTT.In addition to hepatic reserve capacity and PVTT,the extent of HCC was an independent factor in determining a poor prognosis.The most common adverse reactions to HAIC were mucositis,diarrhea and peptic ulcer disease,but most of these complications were improved by medical treatment and/or a delay of HAIC.CONCLUSION:The present study demonstrates that intra-arterial FUDR chemotherapy is a safe and effective treatment for advanced HCC that is recalcitrant to other therapeutic modalities,even in patients with advanced cirrhosis. | Yang Hyun Baek Kyoung Tae Kim Sung Wook Lee Jin Sook Jeong Byeong Ho Park Kyung Jin Nam Jin Han Cho Young Hoon Kim Young Hoon Roh Hyung Sik Lee Young Min Choi Sang Young Han | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012，18，26： | 6 |
| 8 | Association between hepatocellular carcinoma and tumor necrosis factor alpha polymorphisms in South Korea显示文摘AIM: To investigate associations between the tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-α)-1031 T>C,-863 C>A,-857 C>T,-308 G>A,and-238 G>A polymorphisms and HCC in Korea.METHODS: Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) cases were diagnosed at CHA Bundang Medical Center from June 1996 to August 2008. The association between TNF-α polymorphisms and HCC was analyzed in 157HCC patients and 201 controls using a polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism assay. We investigated five TNF-α polymorphisms,which are TNF-α-1031 T>C,-863 C>A,-857 C>T,-308 G>A,and-238 G>A. The TNF-α genotype frequencies,genotype combinations and haplotypes were analyzed to disclose the association with HCC.RESULTS: None of the TNF-α polymorphisms was significantly associated with HCC. However,nine genotype combinations had associations with increased likelihood of HCC. Among them,TNF-α-1031/-857/-238 TT/CC/GA(AOR = 18.849,95%CI: 2.203-161.246,P = 0.007),TNF-α-1031/-308/-238 TT/GG/GA(AOR = 26.956,95%CI: 3.071-236.584,P = 0.003),and TNF-α-1031/-238 TT/GA(AOR = 21.576,95%CI: 2.581-180.394,P = 0.005) showed marked association with HCC. There were five haplotypes of TNF-α polymorphisms which were significantly associated with HCC. They are TNF-α-1031/-863/-857/-308/-238 T-C-C-G-A(OR = 25.824,95%CI: 1.491-447.223,P = 0.0005),TNF-α-1031/-857/-308/-238 T-C-G-A(OR = 12.059,95%CI: 2.747-52.950,P < 0.0001),TNF-α-1031/-857/-238 T-C-A(OR = 10.696,95%CI: 2.428-47.110,P = 0.0001),TNF-α-1031/-308/-238 T-G-A(OR = 7.556,95%CI: 2.173-26.280,P = 0.0002) and TNF-α-1031/-238 T-A(OR = 10.865,95%CI: 2.473-47.740,P = 0.0001). Moreover,HCC Okuda stage Ⅲ cases with the TNF-α-1031 CC genotype had better survival than those with the TT genotype(AOR = 5.795,95%CI: 1.145-29.323). CONCLUSION: Although no single TNF-α polymorphism is associated with HCC in this study,some TNF-α genotype combinations and haplotypes are associated with HCC. | 9 | Monolayer Graphitic Carbon Nitride as Metal-Free Catalyst with Enhanced Performance in Photo- and Electro-Catalysis显示文摘The exfoliation of bulk graphitic carbon nitride(g-C_(3)N_(4))into monolayer has been intensively studied to induce maximum sur-face area for fundamental studies,but ended in failure to realize chemi-cally and physically well-defined monolayer of g-C_(3)N_(4)mostly due to the difficulty in reducing the layer thickness down to an atomic level.It has,therefore,remained as a challenging issue in two-dimensional(2D)chemistry and physics communities.In this study,an“atomic monolayer of g-C_(3)N_(4)with perfect two-dimensional limit”was successfully prepared by the chemically well-defined two-step routes.The atomically resolved monolayer of g-C_(3)N_(4)was also confirmed by spectroscopic and micro-scopic analyses.In addition,the experimental Cs-HRTEM image was collected,for the first time,which was in excellent agreement with the theoretically simulated;the evidence of monolayer of g-C_(3)N_(4)in the perfect 2D limit becomes now clear from the HRTEM image of orderly hexagonal symmetry with a cavity formed by encirclement of three adjacent heptazine units.Compared to bulk g-C_(3)N_(4),the present g-C_(3)N_(4)monolayer showed significantly higher photocatalytic gen-eration of H2O2 and H2,and electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction.In addition,its photocatalytic efficiency for H2O2 production was found to be the best for any known g-C_(3)N_(4)nanomaterials,underscoring the remarkable advantage of monolayer formation in optimizing the catalyst performance of g-C_(3)N_(4). | Huiyan Piao Goeun Choi Xiaoyan Jin Seong‑Ju Hwang Young Jae Song Sung‑Pyo Cho Jin‑Ho Choy | 2022 | Nano-Micro Letters2022，14，3： | 3 |

| 11 | Analysis on sports and recreation activity-related eye injuries presenting to the Emergency Department显示文摘AIM:To investigate the incidence and general characteristics of sports-related eye injuries in patients visiting the Emergency Department. METHODS: A cross-sectional,multi-center,observational study.Patients with an injured eye who visited the Emergency Department at one of nine hospitals in Korea were enrolled.All data were prospectively collected between March and September 2010 using a questionnaire.Eye injuries that occurred during risky sports were examined by gender and age.Additionally,the rate of open globe injuries that occurred with and without protective eyewear was examined for each activity.Continuous variables were compared using Student's t-test and categorical variables were compared using Chi-square test.RESULTS: A total of 446 patients had sports-related eye injuries.Teenagers(10-19 years old) and young adults(20-29 years old) had the most eye injuries.Eye injuries accounted for 0.2% of Emergency Department patients.Baseball was the most common cause of sports-related eye injuries,followed by soccer and hiking.Protective gear was worn by 9.4% of all patients.Patients that were 30-39 years of age had the highest rate of protective gear use,followed by patients that were 40-49 years of age.The proportion of sports-related eye injuries that were open-globe injuries was highest for soccer and hiking.CONCLUSION: Although injuries were most common in patients below the age of 10 years,these patients had the lowest rate of protective eyewear use.Injuries in adults over 40 years of age most commonly occurred during hiking,but the rate of protective eyewear use was low.Young athletes should be educated on and provided with protective eyewear and policies protective gear use should be established.For older adults,eye protection should be encouraged,especially during hiking. | Sungbae Moon Hyun Wook Ryoo Jae Yun Ahn Jung Bae Park Kang Suk Seo Sang Do Shin Kyoung Jun Song Kang Hyun Lee In Sool Yoo Jin Seong Cho Hyun Ho Ryu Tae Oh Jeong Seok Ran Yeom Young Taek Kim Sung Ok Hong | 2016 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2016，9，10： | 3 |

| 15 | Circulating levels of vitamin D and colorectal adenoma: A case-control study and a meta-analysis显示文摘AIM: To examine the association between circulating 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels and colorectal adenoma in a case-control study and a meta-analysis. METHODS: We conducted a matched case-control study(112 cases and 112 matched controls) and combined 15 studies, including our study, in a metaanalysis. The study-specific odds ratios(ORs) and 95% confidence intervals(CIs) were pooled using a randomeffects model. In total, 5454 colorectal adenomas and 6656 controls were included in the meta-analysis. RESULTS: In a meta-analysis including 14 previous studies and our study, we observed a significant inverse association between circulating 25(OH)D levels and colorectal adenoma(OR = 0.68; 95%CI: 0.54-0.82) when comparing the highest category with the lowest category. Stratification by adenoma location(proximal or distal adenoma) showed similar estimates. When we stratified by study region, the ORs(95%CIs) were 0.70(0.52-0.88) in the US and 0.66(0.34-0.97) in Asia. | 19 | Bacteriophage cocktail supplementation improves growth performance,gut microbiome and production traits in broiler chickens显示文摘Background:Effective antibiotic alternatives are urgently needed in the poultry industry to control disease outbreaks.Phage therapy mainly utilizes lytic phages to kill their respective bacterial hosts and can be an attractive solution to combating the emergence of antibiotic resistance in livestock.Methods:Five hundred and four,one-day-old broilers(Ross 308)were allotted to 1 of 4 treatment groups in a completely randomized design.Treatments consisted of CON(basal diet),PC(CON+0.025%Avilamax®),BP 0.05(CON+0.05%bacteriophage),and BP 0.10(CON+0.10%bacteriophage).Results:A significant linear effect on body weight gain(BWG)was observed during days 1–7,days 22–35,and cumulatively in bacteriophage(BP)supplemented groups.The BWG tended to be higher(P=0.08)and the feed intake(FI)was increased(P=0.017)in the PC group over CON group.A greater(P=0.016)BWG and trends in increased FI(P=0.06)were observed in the experiment in birds fed PC than CON diet.At the genus level,the relative abundance of Lactobacillus was decreased in PC(65.28%),while it was similar in BP 0.05 and BP 0.10(90.65%,86.72%)compared to CON(90.19%).At the species level,the relative abundance of Lactobacillus salivarus was higher in BP 0.05(40.15%)and BP 0.10(38.58%)compared to the CON(20.04%)and PC(18.05%).A linear reduction in the weight of bursa of Fabricius(P=0.022)and spleen(P=0.052)was observed in birds fed graded level of BP and an increase(P=0.059)in the weight of gizzard was observed in birds fed PC over BP diets.Linear and quadratic responses were observed in redness of breast muscle color in birds fed graded level of BP.Conclusions:The inclusion of the 0.05%and 0.1%BP cocktail linearly improved broiler weight during the first 7 days,22–35 days and cumulatively,whereas 0.05%BP addition was sufficient for supporting immune organs,bursa and spleen as well as enhancing gut microbiome,indicating the efficacy of 0.05%BP as a substitute antibiotic growth promoter in broiler diets. | Santi Devi Upadhaya Je Min Ahn Jae Hyoung Cho Jin Young Kim Dae Kyung Kang Sung Woo Kim Hyeun Bum Kim In Ho Kim | 2021 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2021，12，4： | 2 |
