| 1 | To be or not to be:The host genetic factor and beyond in Helicobacter pylori mediated gastro-duodenal diseases显示文摘Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)have long been associated with a spectrum of disease outcomes in the gastroduodenal system.Heterogeneity in bacterial virulence factors or strains is not enough to explain the divergent disease phenotypes manifested by the infection. This review focuses on host genetic factors that are involved during infection and eventually are thought to influence the disease phenotype. We have summarizedthe different host genes that have been investigated for association studies in H.pylori mediated duodenal ulcer or gastric cancer. We discuss that as the bacteria co-evolved with the host;these host gene also show much variation across different ethnic population. We illustrate the allelic distribution of interleukin-1B,across different population which is one of the most popular candidate gene studied with respect to H.pylori infections.Further,we highlight that several polymorphisms in the pathway gene can by itself or collectively affect the acid secretion pathway axis(gastrin:somatostatin)thereby resulting in a spectrum of disease | Dipanjana Datta De Susanta Roychoudhury | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,10: | 8 |
| 2 | Port site infection in laparoscopic surgery: A review of its management显示文摘Laparoscopic surgery(LS), also termed minimal access surgery, has brought a paradigm shift in the approach to modern surgical care. Early postoperative recovery, less pain, improved aesthesis and early return to work have led to its popularity both amongst surgeons and patients. Its application has progressed from cholecystectomies and appendectomies to various other fields including gastrointestinal surgery, urology, gynecology and oncosurgery. However, LS has its own package of complications. Port site infection(PSI), although infrequent, is one of the bothersome complications which undermine the benefits of minimal invasive surgery. Not only does it add to the morbidity of the patient but also spoils the reputation of the surgeon. Despite the advances in the field of antimicrobial agents, sterilization techniques, surgical techniques, operating room ventilation, PSIs still prevail. The emergence of rapid growing atypical mycobacteria with multidrug resistance, which are the causative organism in most of the cases, has further compounded the problem. PSIs are preventable if appropriate measures are taken preoperatively, intraoperatively and postoperatively. PSIs can often be treated non-surgically, with early identification and appropriate management. Macrolides, quinolones and aminoglycosides antibiotics do show promising activity against the atypical mycobacteria. This review article highlights the clinical burden, presentations and management of PSIs in LS as shared by various authors in the literature. We have given emphasis to atypical mycobacteria, which are emerging as a common etiological agent for PSIs in LS. Although the existing literature lacks consensus regarding PSI management, the complication can be best avoided by strictly abiding by the commandments of sterilization techniques of the laparoscopic instruments with appropriate sterilizing agent. | Prakash K Sasmal Tushar S Mishra Satyajit Rath Susanta Meher Dipti Mohapatra | 2015 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2015,3,10: | 6 |
| 3 | Distribution of hepatitis B virus genotypes:Phylogenetic analysis and virological characteristics of Genotype C circulating among HBV carriers in Kolkata,Eastern India显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the genotype distribution of hepatitis B virus (HBV) in Eastern India and to clarify the phyloge- netic origin and virological characteristics of the recently identifi ed genotype C in this region. METHODS: Genotype determination, T1762/A1764 mutation in the basal core promoter (BCP) and A1896 mutation in the precore region of 230 subjects were de- termined by restriction fragment length polymorphism method (RFLP) and the result was confi rmed by direct sequencing. RESULTS: The predominant genotypes D (HBV/D) and A (HBV/A) were detected in 131/230 (57%) and 57/230 (25%) samples. In addition, genotype C (HBV/C) was detected in 42/230 (18%) isolates. Surface gene region was sequenced from 45 isolates (27 HBV/C, 9 HBV/A and 9 HBV/D). Phylogenetic analysis revealed that all of the HBV/C sequences clustered with South East Asian subgenotype (HBV/Cs). The sequence data showed re- markable similarity with a Thai strain (AF068756) (99.5% ± 0.4% nucleotide identities) in 90% of the genotype C strains analyzed. T1762/A1764 mutation in BCP re- gion, associated with high ALT was signifi cantly higher in HBeAg negative isolates than HBeAg positive isolates. Frequency of A1896 mutation leading to HBeAg negativ- ity was low.CONCLUSION: The present study reports the genotypic distribution and the characteristics of partial genome sequences of HBV/C isolates from Eastern India. Low genetic diversity and confi nement of HBV/C in Eastern India possibly indicate a recent, limited, spread in this region. Genotype C with T1762/A1764 mutation has been reported to increase the risk for hepatocellular car- cinoma; therefore genotype C carriers in Eastern India should be carefully monitored. | Arup Banerjee Sibnarayan Datta Partha K Chandra Susanta Roychowdhury Chinmoy Kumar Panda Runu Chakravarty | 2006 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2006,12,37: | 3 |

| 5 | Flood susceptibility modelling using advanced ensemble machine learning models显示文摘Floods are one of nature's most destructive disasters because of the immense damage to land, buildings, and human fatalities. It is difficult to forecast the areas that are vulnerable to flash flooding due to the dynamic and complex nature of the flash floods. Therefore, earlier identification of flash flood susceptible sites can be performed using advanced machine learning models for managing flood disasters. In this study,we applied and assessed two new hybrid ensemble models, namely Dagging and Random Subspace(RS)coupled with Artificial Neural Network(ANN),Random Forest(RF),and Support Vector Machine(SVM)which are the other three state-of-the-art machine learning models for modelling flood susceptibility maps at the Teesta River basin, the northern region of Bangladesh. The application of these models includes twelve flood influencing factors with 413 current and former flooding points, which were transferred in a GIS environment. The information gain ratio, the multicollinearity diagnostics tests were employed to determine the association between the occurrences and flood influential factors. For the validation and the comparison of these models, for the ability to predict the statistical appraisal measures such as Freidman,Wilcoxon signed-rank,and t-paired tests and Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve(ROC)were employed. The value of the Area Under the Curve(AUC)of ROC was above 0.80 for all models. For flood susceptibility modelling, the Dagging model performs superior, followed by RF,the ANN,the SVM,and the RS,then the several benchmark models. The approach and solution-oriented outcomes outlined in this paper will assist state and local authorities as well as policy makers in reducing flood-related threats and will also assist in the implementation of effective mitigation strategies to mitigate future damage. | Abu Reza Md Towfiqul Islam Swapan Talukdar Susanta Mahato Sonali Kundu Kutub Uddin Eibek Quoc Bao Pham Alban Kuriqi Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh | 2021 | Geoscience Frontiers2021,12,3: | 2 |
