The role and significance of Magnesium in modern day research-A review显示文摘Magnesium is one of the largely available elements in the earth’s crust. It has a low structural density with high specific strength. This unique material property has forced an increase in the use of magnesium and its alloys in various applications pertaining to industrial sector, automobiles, aerospace and biomedical. Since magnesium is a highly reactive metal, it is prone to higher rate of corrosion as compared to its counterparts. Thus, it is essential to analyze the corrosion behavior of magnesium and its alloys in its applications. An appropriate process is to be followed in the design and development of magnesium alloys which overcome the limitations of magnesium and enhance the desired material properties in accordance to their applications. This review paper summarizes the importance of magnesium and its material properties. The influence of various alloying elements on the mechanical properties of magnesium is reviewed. The broad classification of Mg alloys and their behavioral trends are detailed. The corrosion behavior of magnesium and the influence of corrosion products on the material characteristics of magnesium, in aqueous medium, are discussed. The manufacturing techniques of magnesium alloys along with the secondary techniques are also covered. The various applications and the limitations of magnesium in these applications are covered. A complete section is dedicated towards detailing the recent trends of magnesium(Mg) alloys, i.e., the biodegradable nature and applications of Mg alloys. The influence of biocorrosion on Mg alloys and techniques to overcome it have been deliberated. This paper provides a thorough review on recent developments of magnesium with respect to engineering applications. | S V Satya Prasad S B Prasad Kartikey Verma Raghvendra Kumar Mishra Vikas Kumar Subhash Singh | 2022 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2022,10,1: | 11
Analysis of isoquinoline alkaloids from Mahonia leschenaultia and Mahonia napaulensis roots using UHPLC-Orbitrap-MSn and UHPLC-QqQ LIT-MS/MS显示文摘Mahonia leschenaultia(ML) and Mahonia napaulensis(MN) are less known and unexplored medicinal plants of the family Berberidaceae. They are used by the Todas of Nilgiris in their religious and medical practices but chemically less identified. Hence, we decided to do extensive phytochemical analysis to explore the potential of these plant extracts. An ultrahigh performance electrospray tandem mass spectrometry(UHPLC–ESI–MS/MS)method was successfully developed for qualitative analysis of the bioactive components in Mahonia species using Orbitrap Velos Pro mass spectrometer. Sixteen compounds were identified by comparison of their retention times and mass spectra(MS) with authentic standards and reported literature. Multi-stage mass spectra(MS^(2–8)) for the identification of protoberberine and aporphine alkaloids showed the sequential expulsion of all the substituents attached with their basic skeleton followed by CO loss. Eight of the identified compounds(berberine, jatrorrhizine, palmatine, magnoflorine, isocorydine, glaucine, tetrahydropalmatine and tetrahydroberberine) were simultaneously determined by another UHPLC–ESI–MS/MS method under the multiple reactions monitoring(MRM) mode quantitatively using triple quadrupole linear ion trap mass spectrometer. The analytical method was validated for 8 bioactive compounds with overall recovery in the range98.5%–103.6%(RSD≤2.2%), precise(RSD≤2.07%) and linear(r≥0.9995) over the concentration range of 0.5–1000 ng/mL and successfully applied in ML and MN roots, which suggests the suitability of the proposed approach for the routine analysis of Mahonia species and their quality control. | Awantika Singh Vikas Bajpai Sunil Kumar Ajay Kumar Singh Rawat Brijesh Kumar | 2017 | Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2017,7,2: | 9
Correlation of transient elastography with hepatic venous pressure gradient in patients with cirrhotic portal hypertension: A study of 326 patients from India显示文摘AIM To study the diagnostic accuracy of transient elastography(TE) for detecting clinically significant portal hypertension(CSPH) in Indian patients with cirrhotic portal hypertension.METHODS This retrospective study was conducted at the Institute of Liver, Gastroenterology, and Panceatico-Biliary Sciences, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, on consecutive patients with cirrhosis greater than 15 years of age who underwent hepatic venous pressure gradient(HVPG) and TE from July 2011 to May 2016. Correlation between HVPG and TE was analyzed using the Spearman's correlation test. Receiver operating characteristic ( ROC) curves were prepared for determining the utility of TE in predicting various stages of portal hypertension. The best cut-off value of TE forthe diagnosis of CSPH was obtained using the Youden index.RESULTS The study included 326 patients [median age 52(range 16-90) years; 81% males]. The most common etiology of cirrhosis was cryptogenic(45%) followed by alcohol(34%). The median HVPG was 16.0(range 1.5 to 30.5) mm Hg. Eighty-five percent of patients had CSPH. A significant positive correlation was noted between TE and HVPG(rho 0.361, P < 0.001). The area under ROC curve for TE in predicting CSPH was 0.740(95%CI: 0.662-0.818)(P < 0.01). A cut-off value of TE of 21.6 k Pa best predicted CSPH with a positive predictive value(PPV) of 93%.CONCLUSION TE has a fair positive correlation with HVPG; thus, TE can be used as a non-invasive modality to assess the degree of portal hypertension. A cut-off TE value of 21.6 k Pa identifies CSPH with a PPV of 93%. | Ashish Kumar Noor Muhammad Khan Shrihari Anil Anikhindi Praveen Sharma Naresh Bansal Vikas Singla Anil Arora | 2017 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2017,23,4: | 8
Structural characterization of monoterpene indole alkaloids in ethanolic extracts of Rauwolfia species by liquid chromatography with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry显示文摘Rauwolfia species(Apocynaceae) are medicinal plants well known worldwide due to its potent bioactive monoterpene indole alkaloids(MIAs) such as reserpine, ajmalicine, ajmaline, serpentine and yohimbine.Reserpine, ajmalicine and ajmaline are powerful antihypertensive, tranquilizing agents used in hypertension.Yohimbine is an aphrodisiac used in dietary supplements. As there is no report on the comparative and comprehensive phytochemical investigation of the roots of Rauwolfia species,we have developed an efficient and reliable liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry(LC–MS/MS) method for ethanolic root extract of Rauwolfia species to elucidate the fragmentation pathways for dereplication of bioactive MIAs using highperformance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry(HPLC–ESI–QTOF–MS/MS) in positive ion mode.We identified and established diagnostic fragment ions and fragmentation pathways using reserpine, ajmalicine, ajmaline, serpentine and yohimbine. The MS/MS spectra of reserpine, ajmalicine, and ajmaline showed C-ring-cleavage whereas E-ring cleavage was observed in serpentine via Retro Diels Alder(RDA).A total of 47 bioactive MIAs were identified and characterized on the basis of their molecular formula, exact mass measurements and MS/MS analysis.Reserpine, ajmalicine, ajmaline, serpentine and yohimbine were unambiguously identified by comparison with their authentic standards and other 42 MIAs were tentatively identified and characterized from the roots of Rauwolfia hookeri,Rauwolfia micrantha,Rauwolfia serpentina,Rauwolfia verticillata,Rauwolfia tetraphylla and Rauwolfia vomitoria.Application of LC–MS followed by principal component analysis(PCA) has been successfully used to discriminate among six Rauwolfia species. | Sunil Kumar Awantika Singh Vikas Bajpai Mukesh Srivastava Bhim Pratap Singh Brijesh Kumar | 2016 | Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2016,6,6: | 7
Characterization of chickpea germplasm conserved in the Indian National Genebank and development of a core set using qualitative and quantitative trait data显示文摘Chickpea is the third most important pulse crop as a source of dietary protein. Ever-increasing demand in Asian countries calls for breeding superior desi-type varieties, in turn necessitating the availability of characterized germplasm to breeders. The Indian National Genebank, located at the National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi, conserves 14,651 accessions of chickpea. The entire set was characterized in a single large-scale experiment.High variation was observed for eight quantitative and 12 qualitative agro-morphological traits. Allelic richness procedure was employed to assemble a core set comprising 1103 accessions, 70.0% of which were of Indian origin. Comparable values of total variation explained by the first three principal components in the entire collection(51.1%) and the core(52.4%)together with conservation of nine pairwise r values among quantitative traits in the core collection and a coincidence rate around 99.7% indicated that the chickpea core was indeed an excellent representation of the entire chickpea collection in the National Genebank. The chickpea core exhibited greater diversity than the entire collection in agro-morphological traits, as assessed by higher variance and Shannon–Weaver diversity indices, indicating that the chickpea core maximized the phenotypic diversity available in the Indian chickpea germplasm. The chickpea core, comprising mainly indigenous desi genotypes, is expected to be an excellent resource for chickpea breeders. | 7 | Emulsification of Indian heavy crude oil using a novel surfactant for pipeline transportation显示文摘The most economical way to overcome flow assurance problems associated with transportation of heavy crude oil through offshore pipelines is by emulsifying it with water in the presence of a suitable surfactant. In this research,a novel surfactant,tri-triethanolamine monosunflower ester, was synthesized in the laboratory by extracting fatty acids present in sunflower(Helianthus annuus)oil.Synthesized surfactant was used to prepare oil-in-water emulsions of a heavy crude oil from the western oil field of India. After emulsification,a dramatic decrease in pour point as well as viscosity was observed. All the prepared emulsions were found to be flowing even at 1°C.The emulsion developed with 60%oil content and 2wt%surfactant showed a decrease in viscosity of 96%.The stability of the emulsion was investigated at different temperatures, and it was found to be highly stable. The effectiveness of surfactant in emulsifying the heavy oil in water was investigated by measuring the equilibrium interfacial tension(IFT)between the crude oil(diluted)and the aqueous phase along with zeta potential of emulsions.2wt%surfactant decreased IFT by almost nine times that of no surfactant. These results suggested that the synthesized surfactant may be used to prepare a stable oil-in-water emulsion for its transportation through offshore pipelines efficiently. | Shailesh Kumar Vikas Mahto | 2017 | Petroleum Science2017,14,2: | 5
All ileo-cecal ulcers are not Crohn's:Changing perspectives of symptomatic ileocecal ulcers显示文摘AIM To investigated clinical, endoscopic and histopathological parameters of the patients presenting with ileocecal ulcers on colonoscopy.METHODS Consecutive symptomatic patients undergoing colonoscopy, and diagnosed to have ulcerations in the ileocecal(I/C) region, were enrolled.Biopsy was obtained and theirclinical presentation and outcome were recorded.RESULTS Out of 1632 colonoscopies,104 patients had ulcerations in the I/C region and were included in the study.Their median age was 44.5 years and 59% were males. The predominant presentation was lower GI bleed(55,53%),pain abdomen ± diarrhea(36,35%),fever(32,31%),and diarrhea alone(9,9%).On colonoscopy, terminal ileum was entered in 96(92%) cases. The distribution of ulcers was as follows:Ileum alone 40%(38/96),cecum alone 33%(32/96),and both ileum plus cecum 27%(26/96).The ulcers were multiple in 98% and in 34% there were additional ulcers elsewhere in colon.Based on clinical presentation and investigations, the etiology of ulcers was classified into infective causes(43%) and noninfective causes(57%).Fourteen patients(13%) were diagnosed to have Crohn's disease(CD).CONCLUSION Non-specific ileocecal ulcers are most common ulcers seen in ileo-cecal region. And if all infections are clubbed together then infection is the most common(> 40%) cause of ulcerations of the I/C region.Cecal involvement and fever are important clues to infective cause. On the contrary CD account for only 13% cases as a cause of ileo-cecalulcers.So all symptomatic patients with I/C ulcers on colonoscopy are not Crohn's. | Jay Toshniwal Romesh Chawlani Amit Thawrani Rajesh Sharma Anil Arora Hardik L Kotecha Mohan Goyal Vijendra Kirnake Pankaj Jain Pankaj Tyagi Naresh Bansal Munish Sachdeva Piyush Ranjan Mandhir Kumar Praveen Sharma Vikas Singla Rinkesh Bansal Vineet Shah Sunita Bhalla Ashish Kumar | 2017 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy2017,9,7: | 5
Modified(G'/G)-expansion method for finding traveling wave solutions of the coupled Benjamin-Bona-Mahony-KdV equation显示文摘Using the Lie symmetry approach, the author has examined traveling wave solutions of coupled Benjamin-Bona-Mahony-KdV equation. The coupled Benjamin-Bona-Mahony-KdV equation is reduced to nonlinear ordinary differential equations for all optimal subalgebras by using Lie classical symmetries and various solutions are obtained by the modified(G'/G)-expansion method.Further, with the aid of solutions of the nonlinear ordinary differential equations, more explicit traveling wave solutions of the coupled Benjamin-Bona-Mahony-KdV equation are found out.The traveling wave solutions are expressed by rational function. | Vikas Kumar | 2019 | Journal of Ocean Engineering and Science2019,4,3: | 4
Discovery and preclinical development of ⅢM-160, a Bergenia ciliatabased anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic botanical drug candidate显示文摘Objective: Bergenia ciliata(Haw.) Sternb. is used in the Indian traditional system of medicine to treat various ailments including rheumatism and to heal wounds. The objective of the present study was to perform a preclinical characterization of the B. ciliata-based botanical extract IIIM-160.Methods: ⅢM-160 was chemically standardized and analyzed for heavy metal content, aflatoxins, pesticides and microbial load. The in vitro and in vivo efficacies were determined in suitable models of inflammation, arthritis and nociception. An acute oral toxicity study was performed in Swiss albino mice.A suitable oral formulation was developed and characterized. Results: Bergenin was found to be the major component(9.1% w/w) of ⅢM-160. The botanical lead displayed inhibition of lipopolysaccharide-induced production of proinflammatory cytokines in THP-1 cells, with selectivity toward interleukin-6(IL-6) and had an excellent safety-window. It showed anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic and antinociceptive activity in animal models and was not toxic at oral doses up to 2 g/kg in Swiss-albino mice. The gastroretentive, sustained-release capsule formulation showed sustained-release of the bergenin over the period of 24 h, resulting in improved plasma-exposure of bergenin in Sprague–Dawley rats. Conclusion: The dual-activity of IL-6 inhibition and antinociception marks the suitability of ⅢM-160 for treating rheumatoid arthritis. This study will serve as the benchmark for further research on this botanical formulation. | Sandip B.Bharate Vikas Kumar Sonali S.Bharate Bikarma Singh Gurdarshan Singh Amarinder Singh Mehak Gupta Deepika Singh Ajay Kumar Surjeet Singh Ram A.Vishwakarma | 2019 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2019,17,3: | 3
Insect(black soldier fly larvae) oil as a potential substitute for fish or soy oil in the fish meal-based diet of juvenile rainbow trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss)显示文摘Alternative sources of fish oil(FO)are one of the major problems in aquaculture;therefore, the goal of the present study was to examine insect(black soldier fly larvae)oil(BSLO)as a potential replacer of fish/s oy oil in juvenile rainbow trout(initial average weight of 32±0.15 g)feed.Four diets were formulated wherein FO(control diet)was completely replaced with either soybean oil(SO)or BSLO,and an additional BSLO-based diet supplemented with 1.5%bile acid(BSLO+BA)were fed to the fish for 10 weeks.Growth performance of the BSLO fed group was similar(P>0.05)to that of the FO and SO fed groups, howeve r,the fish fed BSLO+BA diet registered the lowest growth(P<0.05).Oil sources did not(P>0.05)affect the major nutrient content of whole-body,however,the fatty acid composition of the muscle and liver was influenced(P<0.05),with the highest 14:0,16:0,and total saturated fatty acid detected in BSLO or BSLO+BA fed trout compared to the others(P<0.001).No significant diffe rences were observed in eicosapentaenoic acid+docosahexaenoic acid(EPA+DHA)or total n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid(PUFA)content in muscle among the groups, whereas, the highest EPA:DHA and n-3:n-6 ratios were detected in the FO group.Gene expression for fatty acid binding protein(fabp),fatty acid synthase(fas),and△5 desaturase in the liver was lower in FO(P<0.05),while BSLO+BA registered the highest△6 expression(P=0.006).Supplementation of BA in the BSLO diet increased superoxide dismutase(SOD)and catalase(CAT)activities compared to the other groups(P<0.05).In conclusion,BSLO could serve as a substitute for FO and SO in rainbow trout diet without negatively impacting growth performance,whole-body composition and nutrient retention, and modulate the expression of fatty acid metabolism-related genes in rainbow trout. | Femi J.Fawole Shyam N.Labh Md Sakhawat Hossain Ken Overturf Brian C.Small Thomas L.Welker Ronald W.Hardy Vikas Kumar | 2021 | Animal Nutrition2021,,4: | 2
