| 14 | O_(3) based advanced oxidation for ibuprofen degradation显示文摘The degradation of the anti-inflammatory ibuprofen(IBP)was evaluated by several advanced oxidation processes.IBP was treated by single ozonation and oxidation with hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2)),as well as a combination of these treatments.In order to improve the efficiency,the presence of catalysts such as original carbon nanotubes,labelled as CNT,and iron oxide supported on carbon nanotubes,named as Fe/CNT sample,was considered.The evolution of IBP degradation,mineralization and toxicity of the solutions was assessed.The formation of intermediates was also monitored.In the non-catalytic processes,IBP was faster removed by single ozonation,whereas no significant total organic carbon(TOC)removal was achieved.Oxidation with H_(2)O_(2) did not present satisfactory results.When ozone and H_(2)O_(2) were combined,a higher mineralization was attained(70%after 180 min of reaction).On the other hand,in the catalytic processes,this combined process allowed the fastest IBP degradation.In terms of mineralization degree,the presence of Fe/CNT increases the removal rate in the first hour of reaction,achieving a TOC removal of 85%.Four compounds were detected as by-products.All treated solutions presented lower toxicity than the initial solution,suggesting that the released intermediates during applied processes are less toxic. | Vitória M.Almeida Carla A.Orge M.Fernando R.Pereira O.SaloméG.P.Soares | 2022 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2022,35,2: | 0 |

| 19 | Genoprotection and metabolic benefits of marine macroalgae-Insights into the concept of functional foods through direct and indirect consumption显示文摘The consumption of marine macroalgae has been linked with health benefits,albeit some actions,including genoprotection,remain underexplored.Hence,we evaluated the genoprotective potential of a mixture of Ulva rigida,Fucus vesiculosus and Gracilaria gracilis,through direct consumption or via indirect intake using fish(Sparus aurata)as a vector of algal phytocompounds.Mice(Mus musculus)were subjected to a 1-month dietary supplementation with 5%of macroalgae mix or 10%of fillet of fish previously fed with an algae-supplemented aquafeed(for comparison purposes,10%supplementation with fillet of fish standardly fed was also considered).Thereafter,mice were challenged by the genotoxicant methyl methanesulfonate(MMS),and the genetic damage was evaluated through the micronuclei test.Complementarily,a wider evaluation was carried out encompassing the assessment of energy metabolism,haematological and histological parameters,as well as growth performance.Macroalgae unequivocally protected against MMS-induced genotoxicity.The activity profile of hepatic lactate and isocitrate dehydrogenases promoted by the supplemented diets reflected an improved energy balance.Genoprotection properties were not transferred via fish fed with the algae-supplemented aquafeed,though the transference of phytocomponents with beneficial properties(viz.energy balance improvement)should not be disregarded.Overall,these findings highlighted the genoprotection afforded by marine macroalgae,likely promoted by desmutagenic factors,reinforcing their definition as functional food.The possibility of using fish as an indirect source of algae-borne phytocomponents proved to be plausible and worthy of further investigations. | Ana Marques João Ferreira Ana Cerqueda-Pacheco Vitória Pereira Helena Abreu Rui Pereira Maria João Pires Fernanda Seixas Paula Oliveira Isabel Gaivão Mário Pacheco | 2022 | Food Bioscience2022,47,3: | 0 |
| 20 | Is autoimmune hepatitis a frequent finding among HCV patients with intense interface hepatitis?显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the overlap of autoimmune hepatitis in hepatitis C virus(HCV)-infected patients with intense interface hepatitis.METHODS:Among 1759 patients with hepatitis C submitted to liver biopsy,92(5.2%) presented intense interface hepatitis.These patients were evaluated regarding the presence of antinuclear antibody(ANA),anti-smooth muscle antibody(SMA) and anti-liver/kidney microsomal antibody(LKM-1),levels of γ-globulin and histological findings related to autoimmune hepatitis(plasma cell infiltrate and presence of rosettes).RESULTS:Among patients with hepatitis C and intense interface hepatitis there was a low prevalence of autoantibodies(ANA=12%,SMA=5%,LKM-1=0%) and the median γ-globulin level was within the normal range.Typical histological findings of autoimmune disease were observed in only two cases(2%).After applying the score for diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis,only one patient was classified with a definitive diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis.Since overlap with autoimmune hepatitis was not the explanation for the intense necroinflammatory activity in patients with chronic hepatitis C we sought to identify the variables associated with this finding.The presence of intense interface hepatitis was associated with more advanced age,both at the time of infection and at the time of the biopsy,and higher prevalence of blood transfusion and alcohol abuse.CONCLUSION:Although possible,overlap with autoimmune hepatitis is a very rare association in HCV-infected patients with intense interface hepatitis,an unusual presentation which seems to be related to other host variables. | Rosilene G Badiani Vitória Becker Renata M Perez Carla AL Matos Lara B Lemos Valéria P Lanzoni Luis Eduardo C Andrade Alessandra Dellavance Antonio Eduardo B Silva Maria Lucia G Ferraz | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,29: | 7 |
