| 1 | Damage to DNA of effective microorganisms by heavy metals:Impact on wastewater treatment显示文摘The research is to test the damage to DNA of effective microorganisms(EMs)by heavy metal ions As3+,Cd2+,Cr3+,Cu2+,Hg2+, Pb2+,and Zn2+,as well as the effects of EM bacteria on wastewater treatment capability when their DNA is damaged.The approach applied in this study is to test with COMET assay the damage of EM DNA in wastewater with different concentrations of heavy metal ions As3+,Cd2+,Cr3+,Cu2+,Hg2+,Pb2+,Zn2+,as well as the effects of EM treated with As3+,Cd2+,Cr3+,Cu2+,Hg2+,Pb2+,and Zn2+ on COD degrading capability in wastewater.The results showed that the damage of the DNA of EM were negatively correlated with their treatment capability and that EM bacteria maximum tolerant concentrations of these heavy metal ions was at 0.05 mg/L for As3+, 0.2 mg/L for Hg2+,0.5 mg/L for Cd2+,Cr3+,and Cu2+,and 1 mg/L for Pb2+and Zn2+. | ZHOU, Sheng WEI, Chaohai LIAO, Chaodeng WU, Haizhen | 2008 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2008,20,12: | 9 |
| 2 | Degradation of o-chloronitrobenzene as the sole carbon and nitrogen sources by Pseudomonas putida OCNB-1显示文摘A bacterial strain that utilized o-chloronitrobenzene(o-CNB) as the sole carbon,nitrogen and energy sources was isolated from an activated sludge collected from an industrial waste treatment plant. It was identified as Pseudomonas putida based on its morphology,physiological,and biochemical characteristics with an automatic biometrical system and the 16S rRNA sequence analysis. Microcosm study showed that the biodegradation of o-CNB was optimized at culture medium pH 8.0 and 32°C. At these conditions,the strain degraded 85% of o-CNB at a starting concentration of 1.1 mmol/L in 42 h. o-Chloroaniline was identified as the major metabolite with high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS) . | 3 | Preparation and characterization of biomimetic adsorbent from poly-3-hydroxybutyrate显示文摘Biomimetic adsorbent named as PHBBMA was prepared from lipophilic poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) by a modified double emulsion solvent evaporation method. PHBBMA, characterized by using scanning electron microscope and nitrogen adsorption/desorption measurements, is porous spherical particles. The characterization with the thermal gravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry, 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed that PHBBMA preparation was a physical process without chemical reaction. The adsorption of PHBBMA for o-nitrochlorobenzene (o-NCB) was fitted better by Langmuir model than by Freundlich model, while the pseudo second-order model fitting was better than the pseudo first-order model fitting. The maximal adsorption capacity of PHBBMA for o-NCB was 57.83 mg/g at 30°C, although its specific surface area (S BET ) was only 8.45 m 2 /g. PHBBMA is a safe and environmental friendly adsorbent with high adsorption capacity because its component is innocuous and biodegradable PHB produced reusing wastes and contaminants, no byproduct can produced, and its ester and hydrocarbyl groups have strong affinity with organochlorine compounds.
