1Aboveground biomass and corresponding carbon sequestration ability of four major forest types in south China显示文摘We estimated aboveground biomass carbon (TABC) and net carbon accumulation rates (TNEP) for trees in four major forest types based on national forest inventory data collected in 1994-1998 and 1999-2003. The four types were Pinus massoniana forest, Cunninghamia lanceolata forest, hard broad-leaved evergreen forest and soft broad-leaved evergreen forest. We analyzed variations in TABC and TNEP for five stand ages (initiation, young, medium, mature and old). In both time periods, estimated TABC in all four forest types increased consistently with forest stand age and the oldest stage had the largest TABC compared with other stages. Broad-leaved forests (hard and soft) had higher TABC than needle-leaved forests (Pinus massoniana and Cunninghamia lanceolata) for each of the five age stages. The difference of TABC between broad-leaved and needle-leaved forests increased with forest stand age. Comparison of estimated TNEP by age category indicated TNEP increased from the initiation stage to the young stage, and then decreased from the mature stage to old stage in all four forest types. TNEP for any particular stage depended on the forest type; for instance, broad-leaved forests at both the mature and old stages had greater TNEP than in needle-leaved forests. A logistic curve was applied to fit the relationship between TABC and forest stand age. In each period, correlations in all four forest types were all statistically significant (P < 0.01) with R2 > 0.95. TABC was therefore predicted by these regression functions from 2000 to 2050 and the mean TNEP during the predicted period was estimated to be about 41.14, 31.53, 75.50 and 75.68 gCm-2a-1 in Pinus massoniana forest, Cunninghamia lanceolata forest, hard broad-leaved forest and soft broad-leaved forest, respectively. Results from both forest inventory and regression prediction suggest broad-leaved forests are greater carbon sinks, and hence have greater carbon sequestration ability especially in the mature and old stages when compared to needle-leaved forests. 2Growth, photosynthesis and podophyllotoxin accumulation of Dysosma versipellis in response to a light gradient and conservation implications显示文摘Dysosma versipellis (Hance) M. Cheng ex Ying (Berberidaceae) is a rare and vulnerable, perennial herb endemic to China with pharmaceutical significance. Increasing habitat loss and over-exploitation of the plant has severely affected the plant's in situ conservation, necessitating ex situ conservation and commercial cultivation. The light regime is a critical environmental factor contributing to successful ex situ conservation via efficient production of biomass and secondary metabolites. We investigated the responses of 2-year-old D. versipellis plants to a light gradient in terms of leaf morphology, growth, biomass production, photo- synthesis and podophyllotoxin (PTOX) accumulation. D. versipellis responded to the light gradient in terms of plant height, leaf size, leaf photosynthesis and PTOX accumulation. Plants demonstrated optimal vegetative growth, photosynthetic capability, and PTOX production, under a light intensity equal to 30% full sunlight. Half full sunlight led to the lowest production of PTOX despite having no obviously different effects on growth. Full sunlight was able to cause leaf death in mid-summer (July), although these plantlets did not significantly differ in growth or biomass production before July and new leaves emerged in August. D. versipellis is therefore proposed to be a shade-tolerant plant, well adapted to variations in irradiance. 3A Humidity-Powered Soft Robot with Fast Rolling Locomotion显示文摘A range of soft robotic systems have recently been developed that use soft,flexible materials and respond to environmental stimulus.The greatest challenge in their design is the integration of the actuator,energy sources,and body of robots while achieving fast locomotion and well-defined programmable trajectories.This work presents such a design that operates under constant conditions without the need for an externally modulated stimulus.By using a humidity-sensitive agarose film and overcoming the isotropic and random bending of the film,the robot,which we call the Hydrollbot,harnesses energy from evaporation for spontaneous and continuous fast self-rolling locomotion with a programmable trajectory in a constant-humidity environment.Moreover,the geometric parameters of the film were fine-tuned to maximize the rolling speed,and the optimised hydrollbot is capable of carrying a payload up to 100%of its own weight.The ability to self-propel fast under constant conditions with programmable trajectories will confer practical advantages to this robot in the applications for sensors,medical robots,actuation,etc.Lei Fu Weiqiang Zhao Jiayao Ma Mingyuan Yang Xinmeng Liu Lei Zhang Yan Chen 2022Research2022,,4:3

5Epidemiological Study of the Development of Visual Acuity in Preschoolers Aged 3 to 6 in the Shenzhen Area显示文摘Purpose: To investigate the visual acuity of preschoolers aged 3 to 6 years in Shenzhen of China. Methods:Visual acuity was measured in preschoolers from eight kindergartens in Shenzhen. Results:A total of 1147 children completed the visual acuity test.There were 77 boys and 62 girls aged 3 years,259 and 216 aged 4,193 and 160 aged 5 and 94 and 86 aged 6. The mean visual acuities of children aged 3,4,5,and 6 years were 0.51±0.10, 0.54±0.13, 0.65±0.14, and 0.71±0.17, respectively. The visual acuity was significantly improved with increasing age (P=0.000). Conclusion:For preschoolers aged 3 to 6, the visual acuity continuously develops and improves. 6Design and evaluation of a maize monitoring system for precision planting显示文摘To increase the accuracy and real-time performance of on-line assessment of maize planting,a CAN bus based maize monitoring system for precision planting was designed and tested both in laboratory and field.The system was mainly comprised of:(a)seeding rate sensors based on opposite-type infrared photoelectric cell for counting the dropping seeds;(b)a decimeter GPS receiver for acquiring planter position and operation speed;(c)a vehicle monitoring terminal based on ARM Cotex-m4 core chip to acquire and process the whole-system data;(d)a touchscreen monitor to display the planter performance for the operator;and(e)a buzzer alarm to sound a warning when skip and double seeding happened.Taking the applicability,dependability and feasibility of the monitoring system into consideration,the opposite-type infrared photoelectric sensors were selected and their deployment strategies in the 6-port seed tube were analyzed.To decrease the average response time,a distributed information communication structure was adopted.In this information communication mode,collectors were designed for each individual sensor and communicated with sensors through two-wire CAN bus.A sensor together with the designed collector is called a sensor node,and each of them worked individually and took the responsibility for acquiring,processing,and transiting the on-going information.Laboratory test results showed that the random error distribution was approximately normal,and by liner analysis,the system observed value and the true value had as a liner relationship with coefficient of determination R^(2)=0.9991.Series of field tests showed that the seeding rate maximum relative error of the 6-port seed tube was 2.92%,and the maximum root mean square error(RMSE)was about 1.64%.The monitoring system,including sensor nodes,vehicle monitoring terminal and a touch-screen monitor,was proved to be dependable and stable with more than 14 d of continuous experiments in field.Yanxin Yin Liping Chen Zhijun Meng Bin Li Changhai Luo Weiqiang Fu Hebo Mei Wuchang Qin 2018International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2018,11,4:0

8Renal tubule-targeted dexrazoxane suppresses ferroptosis in acute kidney injury by inhibiting ACMSD显示文摘Acute kidney injury(AKI)is a heterogeneous clinical complication with no existing definite or particular therapies.Therefore,molecular mechanisms and approaches for treating acute kidney injury are in urgent need.Herein,we demonstrated that dexrazoxane(DXZ),a U.S.Food and Drug Administration(FDA)-approved cardioprotective drug,can both functionally and histologically attenuate cisplatin or ischemia-reperfusion injury-induced AKI in vitro and in vivo via inhibiting ferroptosis specifically.This effect is characterized by decreasing lipid peroxidation,shown by the biomarker of oxidative stress 4-hydroxynonenal(HNE)and prostaglandinendoperoxide synthase 2(Ptgs2),while reversing the downregulation of glutathione peroxidase 4(GPX4)and ferritin 1(FTH-1).Mechanistically,the results revealed that DXZ targeted at the renal tubule significantly inhibits ferroptosis by suppressingα-amino-β-carboxymuconate-ε-semialdehyde decarboxylase(ACMSD).Furthermore,the conjugation of dexrazoxane and polysialic acid(DXZ-PSA)is specifically designed and utilized to enhance the therapeutic effect of DXZ by long-term effect in the kidney,especially retention and targeting in the renal tubules.This study provides a novel therapeutic approach and mechanistic insight for AKI by inhibiting ferroptosis through a new type drug DXZPSA with the enhanced renal distribution.Yunjing Zhang Jicheng Wu Quanlin An Huanhuan Zhu Xinwan Su Ying Wang Xishao Xie Jian Zhang Xi Yao Chunhua Weng Shi Feng Jianhua Mao Xianghui Fu Fei Han Xin Cao Ben Wang Weiqiang Lin 2023Nano Research2023,16,7:0
