| 1 | Adsorption-energy-based activity descriptors for electrocatalysts in energy storage applications显示文摘Energy storage technologies, such as fuel cells, ammonia production and lithium–air batteries, are important strategies for addressing the global challenge of energy crisis and environmental pollution.Taking overpotential as a direct criterion, we illustrate in theory and experiment that the adsorption energies of charged species such as Li^++e^-and H^++e^-are a central parameter to describe catalytic activities related to electricity-in/electricity-out efficiencies. The essence of catalytic activity is revealed to relate with electronic coupling between catalysts and charged species. Based on adsorption energy, some activity descriptors such as d-band center, e_g-electron number and charge-transfer capacity are further defined by electronic properties of catalysts that directly affect interaction between catalysts and charged species. | 3 | Rapid assessment of acid phosphatase activity in the mycorrhizosphere and in arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal hyphae显示文摘A pot experiment has been carried out under controlled conditions to study the possibility of applying the technique of in vivo staining for acid phosphatase activity on the roots of mycorrhizal plants and arbuscular mycorrhizal hyphae. The pots had 5 compartments. The central root compartment was separated from the two adjacent hyphal compartments using nylon nets of 30 μm mesh, and the two hyphal compartments were separated from the two outermost compartments with 0.45 μm membranes. Red clover was grown in the root compartment and was either inoculated with the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus (AMF) Glomus mosseae or uninoculated. Sodium phytate was applied to all compartments. The results show that AMF can increase acid phosphatase activity of clover roots. The plant roots acquired deep red 'mycorrhizal prints'. | 5 | Active terahertz beam steering based on mechanical deformation of liquid crystal elastomer metasurface显示文摘Active metasurfaces are emerging as the core of next-generation optical devices with their tunable optical responses and flat-compact topography.Especially for the terahertz band,active metasurfaces have been developed as fascinating devices for optical chopping and compressive sensing imaging.However,performance regulation by changing the dielectric parameters of the integrated functional materials exhibits severe limitations and parasitic losses.Here,we introduce a C-shape-split-ring-based phase discontinuity metasurface with liquid crystal elastomer as the substrate for infrared modulation of terahertz wavefront.Line-focused infrared light is applied to manipulate the deflection of the liquid crystal elastomer substrate,enabling controllable and broadband wavefront steering with a maximum output angle change of 22°at 0.68THz.Heating as another control method is also investigated and compared with infrared control.We further demonstrate the performance of liquid crystal elastomer metasurface as a beam steerer,frequency modulator,and tunable beam splitter,which are highly desired in terahertz wireless communication and imaging systems.The proposed scheme demonstrates the promising prospects of mechanically deformable metasurfaces,thereby paving the path for the development of reconfigurable metasurfaces. | Xiaolin Zhuang Wei Zhang Kemeng Wang Yangfan Gu Youwen An Xueqian Zhang Jianqiang Gu Dan Luo Jiaguang Han Weili Zhang | 2023 | Light(Science & Applications)2023,12,1: | 4 |

| 7 | A simple model of radial nerve injury in the rhesus monkey to evaluate peripheral nerve repair显示文摘Current research on bone marrow stem cell transplantation and autologous or xenogenic nerve transplantation for peripheral nerve regeneration has mainly focused on the repair of peripheral nerve defects in rodents.In this study,we established a standardized experimental model of radial nerve defects in primates and evaluated the effect of repair on peripheral nerve injury.We repaired 2.5-cm lesions in the radial nerve of rhesus monkeys by transplantation of autografts,acellular allografts,or acellular allografts seeded with autologous bone marrow stem cells.Five months after surgery,regenerated nerve tissue was assessed for function,electrophysiology,and histomorphometry.Postoperative functional recovery was evaluated by the wrist-extension test.Compared with the simple autografts,the acellular allografts and allografts seeded with bone marrow stem cells facilitated remarkable recovery of the wrist-extension functions in the rhesus monkeys.This functional improvement was coupled with radial nerve distal axon growth,a higher percentage of neuron survival,increased nerve fiber density and diameter,increased myelin sheath thickness,and increased nerve conduction velocities and peak amplitudes of compound motor action potentials.Furthermore,the quality of nerve regeneration in the bone marrow stem cells-laden allografts group was comparable to that achieved with autografts.The wrist-extension test is a simple behavioral method for objective quantification of peripheral nerve regeneration. | Dong Wang Xijun Huang Guo Fu Liqiang Gu Xiaolin Liu Honggang Wang Jun Hu Jianhua Yi Xiaofeng Niu Qingtang Zhu | 2014 | Neural Regeneration Research2014,9,10: | 3 |
| 8 | Magnetic plasmon resonances in nanostructured topological insulators for strongly enhanced light-MoS_(2) interactions显示文摘Magnetic resonances not only play crucial roles in artificial magnetic materials but also offer a promising way for light control and interaction with matter.Recently,magnetic resonance effects have attracted special attention in plasmonic systems for overcoming magnetic response saturation at high frequencies and realizing high-performance optical functionalities.As novel states of matter,topological insulators(TIs)present topologically protected conducting surfaces and insulating bulks in a broad optical range,providing new building blocks for plasmonics.However,until now,high-frequency(e.g.visible range)magnetic resonances and related applications have not been demonstrated in TI systems.Herein,we report for the first time,to our knowledge,a kind of visible range magnetic plasmon resonances(MPRs)in TI structures composed of nanofabricated Sb_(2)Te_(3) nanogrooves.The experimental results show that the MPR response can be tailored by adjusting the nanogroove height,width,and pitch,which agrees well with the simulations and theoretical calculations.Moreover,we innovatively integrated monolayer MoS_(2) onto a TI nanostructure and observed strongly reinforced light-MoS_(2) interactions induced by a significant MPR-induced electric field enhancement,remarkable compared with TI-based electric plasmon resonances(EPRs).The MoS_(2) photoluminescence can be flexibly tuned by controlling the incident light polarization.These results enrich TI optical physics and applications in highly efficient optical functionalities as well as artificial magnetic materials at high frequencies. | Hua Lu Zengji Yue Yangwu Li Yinan Zhang Mingwen Zhang Wei Zeng Xuetao Gan Dong Mao Fajun Xiao Ting Mei Weiyao Zhao Xiaolin Wang Min Gu Jianlin Zhao | 2020 | Light(Science & Applications)2020,9,1: | 3 |
| 9 | SNAIL1 is essential for female gametogenesis in Arabidopsis thaliana显示文摘Two yeast Brix family members Ssf1 and Ssf2,involved in large ribosomal subunit synthesis, are essential for yeast cell viability and mating efficiency. Their putative homologs exist in the Arabidopsis genome; however, their role in plant development is unknown. Here, we show that Arabidopsis thaliana SNAIL1(At SNAIL1), a protein sharing high sequence identity with yeast Ssf1 and Ssf2, is critical to mitosis progression of female gametophyte development.The snail1 homozygous mutant was nonviable and its heterozygous mutant was semi-sterile with shorter siliques.The mutation in SNAIL1 led to absence of female transmission and reduced male transmission. Further phenotypic analysis showed that the synchronic development of female gametophyte in the snail1 heterozygous mutant was greatly impaired and the snail1 pollen tube growth, in vivo, was also compromised. | 10 | Space qualification mechanical tests of HTS filters for satellite application显示文摘High performance high-temperature superconducting (HTS) filters have been designed and constructed for satellite application. The filters are actually a superconducting integration of an 8-pole band-pass filter with an adjustable band-stop filter onto a single piece of LaAlO3 substrate (with dimension of 0.5×45×20 mm3). Typical results of the filters, i.e., Filters A (made by YBCO) & B (made by TBCCO) will be reported. The measured responses of Filter A showed excellent specifications, e.g., an insertion loss less than 0.1 dB, a return loss better than -22.5 dB in pass-band, band-edge steepness greater than 12 dB/MHz and out-of-band rejection at a certain band deeper than -110 dB. To satisfy the requirement of rocket launch and space operation, three filters of the above design have undergone mechanical environmental simulation tests for space qualification. Detailed analysis of the response curves of Filter B measured before and after the tests showed that no noticeable change in the per-formance can be found.
