Battery Technologies for Grid-Level Large-Scale Electrical Energy Storage显示文摘Grid-level large-scale electrical energy storage(GLEES) is an essential approach for balancing the supply–demand of electricity generation, distribution, and usage. Compared with conventional energy storage methods, battery technologies are desirable energy storage devices for GLEES due to their easy modularization, rapid response, flexible installation, and short construction cycles. In general, battery energy storage technologies are expected to meet the requirements of GLEES such as peak shaving and load leveling, voltage and frequency regulation, and emergency response, which are highlighted in this perspective. Furthermore, several types of battery technologies, including lead–acid, nickel–cadmium, nickel–metal hydride, sodium–sulfur, lithium-ion, and flow batteries, are discussed in detail for the application of GLEES. Moreover, some possible developing directions to facilitate efforts in this area are presented to establish a perspective on battery technology, provide a road map for guiding future studies, and promote the commercial application of batteries for GLEES.Xiayue Fan Bin Liu Jie Liu Jia Ding Xiaopeng Han Yida Deng Xiaojun Lv Ying Xie Bing Chen Wenbin Hu Cheng Zhong 2020Transactions of Tianjin University2020,26,2:11
Synthesis of growth-type polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) using the solvent Fe_(55)Ni_(29)Co_(16) alloy under HPHT显示文摘A growth-type polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) was synthesized under high temperature and high pressure (HPHT). The infiltration technique was used with an Fe55Ni29Co16 (KOV) alloy as the sintering solvent. The morphology and weight ratio of the PDC were investigated through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electron dispersion spectroscopy (EDS). Note that the KOV alloy evenly infiltrated throughout the polycrystalline diamond (PCD) layer and WC-Co substrate in a short sintering time due to its low viscosity and high soakage capability. A transition layer confirmed the presence of the MxC phase near the interface of the PDC, which can make the diamond layer and WC-Co substrate combine as a complex material. X-ray diffraction (XRD) performed on the PCD layer confirmed the presence of cubic diamond, WC, cubic CoCx, the high temperature cubic phase of α-Co, the alloy phase of FeNix, and no graphite phase. Besides, a surface residual stress of the PCD layer, measured with reasonable accuracy using micro-Raman spectroscopy, is found to be a homogeneous compressive stress with an average value of 0.16 GPa, much lower than that of the powders-mixing method.JIA HongSheng JIA XiaoPeng MA HongAn LI HaiBo 2012Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2012,55,8:9
Effect of additive boron on type-Ib gem diamond single crystals synthesized under HPHT显示文摘The boron-doped type-Ib gem diamond crystals were synthesized successfully by adding amorphous boron into a system of graphite and Kovar catalyst under high pressure and high temperature (HPHT).The effect of additive boron on type-Ib gem diamond was extensively studied including the growth characteristic, morphology and nitrogen concentration. The synthesized boron-doped type-Ib gem diamond crystals were characterized by optical microscope (OM),scanning electron microscope (SEM) and infrared spectrometer (IR).The results show that the growth region of the {111} face becomes wide, whereas the growth region of the {100} face becomes narrow and nearly disappears as increasing additive boron in the sample. The crystal will be opaque and imperfect, and the concentration of nitrogen will be decreased when the boron atoms are incorporated into gem diamond lattice. These techniques are very important and will be widely applied.MA LiQiu MA HongAn XIAO HongYu LI ShangSheng LI Yong JIA XiaoPeng 2010Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,8:8
Flavonoid content and radical scavenging activity in fruits of Chinese dwarf cherry(Cerasus humilis) genotypes显示文摘The Chinese dwarf cherry(Cerasus humilis(Bge.) Sok.) is a small shrub with edible fruits. It is native to northern and western China. This species was included as a medicinal plant in the ‘‘Chinese Pharmacopeia'' and has emerged as an economically important crop for fresh fruit consumption, processing into juice and wine and nutraceutical products as well. To gain a better understanding of flavonoid biosynthesis and help develop value added products and better cultivars with greater health benefits, we analyzed total flavonoid content(TFC), composition, and radical scavenging activities in fruit extracts of 16 Chinese dwarf cherry genotypes. Fruit peel TFC ranged from 33.5 to72.8 mg/g REáFW(RE: rutin equivalent, FW: fresh weight)while fruit flesh TFC ranged from 4.3 to 16.9 mg/g REáFW.An HPLC analysis revealed that fruit extracts contained 14 flavonoids with considerable variation in their profiles across genotypes. The most abundant flavonoids in most genotypes were proanthocyanidin B1(PA-B1), proanthocyanidin B2(PA-B2), phloretin 20-O-glucoside(PG), and phloretin 20,40-O-diglucoside(PDG). Principal component analysis showed that PG, PA-B1, and PA-B2 had large, positive factor loading values in the first principal component for each genotype. Increased scavenging activity of2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) radicals was apparent in genotypes ‘Nongda 4', ‘Nongda 3', ‘Nongda 6',‘Wenfenli', and '10-32', suggesting promising applications in the production of nutraceutical products. In summary, our results will aid in breeding, fruit processing, and developing medicinal uses of the Chinese dwarf cherry.Pengfei Wang Xiaopeng Mu Junjie Du Yu Gary Gao Donghai Bai Luting Jia Jiancheng Zhang Haiyan Ren Xiaofang Xue 2018Journal of Forestry Research2018,29,1:8
HPHT preparation and Micro-Raman characterization of polycrystalline diamond compact with low residual stress显示文摘High quality grown polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) with low residual stress was prepared using the infiltration method with nickel based alloys as the solvent under high temperature and high pressure (HPHT). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to observe the micro morphology of the diamond layer and the diamond/WC substrate interface. It was found that dense and interlaced microstructure with diamond-diamond (D-D) direct bonding formed in the diamond layer of PDC. Micro-Raman spectroscopy was used to measure the Raman shift of diamonds in the polycrystalline diamond (PCD) layer and the residual stress was calculated based on the Raman shift of diamonds. Experimental results show that the residual stress of PCD layer is compressive stress, and the range of the residual stress is from 0.075 to 0.250 GPa in the whole PCD layer, much lower than that of other reports (up to 1.400 GPa). Moreover, the distribution of the residual stress from the diamond surface layer to the inner cross-section is homogeneous.JIA HongSheng, MA HongAn, GUO Wei & JIA XiaoPeng* National Laboratory of Superhard Materials, Jilin University, Changchun 130012, China 2010Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2010,53,8:7
Study on growth of coarse grains of diamond with high quality under HPHT显示文摘The growth of coarse grains of diamond was observed with graphite as carbon source and Fe80Ni20 alloy powder as catalyst at HPHT in a China-type SPD 6×1670T cubic high-pressure apparatus with highly exact control system. To synthesize coarse grains of diamond crystal with high quality,ad-vanced indirect heat assembly, powder catalyst technology and catalyst with optimal granularity were used. Especially the nucleation of diamond and the growth rate were strictly controlled by the opti-mized synthesis craft. At last, diamond crystals (about 0.85 mm) in the perfect hex-octahedron shape were successfully synthesized at ~5.4 GPa and ~1360℃ in 60 min. The characteristic of crystal growth with powder catalyst technology under HPHT was discussed. The results and techniques might be useful for production of coarse grains of diamond.ZHOU ShengGuo ZANG ChuanYi MA HongAn LI XiaoLei ZHANG HeMin JIA XiaoPeng 2009Chinese Science Bulletin2009,54,1:6
Effects of Ti additive on HPHT diamond synthesis in Fe-Ni-C system显示文摘Diamond crystals with low nitrogen concentration were synthesized from the Fe-Ni-C system with Ti additive at high pressure and high temperature (HPHT) in a china-type cubic high pressure apparatus (CHPA). The synthesis pressure range was 4.8-5.2 GPa, and the temperature range was 1420-1600 K. The lowest synthesis pressure for diamond fell first and then rose with the increase of Ti additive. The color, shape, surface morphology and nitrogen impurity concentration of the synthesized diamond crystals were characterized using optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and micro Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry. The results show that the Ti additive has significant effects on color, growth rate, crystal shape, surface morphology and nitrogen impurity con- centration of the synthesized diamond crystals. The color of diamond crystals synthesized without Ti additive is yellow, while that with Ti additive becomes light and nearly colorless. The growth rate without Ti additive is higher than that with Ti additive. The crystal shapes of as-grown diamond crystals vary with the increase of Ti additive. The {111} crystal faces become dominant and some {311} crystal faces appear with the increase of Ti additive. The concentration of nitrogen impurity in diamond crystals without Ti additive is higher than that with Ti additive.HAN Wei JIA XiaoPeng JIA HongSheng HU MeiHua HUANG HaiLiang LIU XiaoBing MA HongAn 2009Chinese Science Bulletin2009,54,17:6
Effects of carbon diffusing field in alloy solvent on the growth of tower-shape diamond single crystal显示文摘High-quality type-Ib tower-shape diamond single crystals were synthesized in cubic anvil high pressure apparatus (SPD-6×1200) at 5.4 GPa and 1250-1450°C. The (100) face of seed crystal was used as the growth face, and FeNiMnCo alloy was used as the solvent/catalyst. Two kinds of carbon diffusing fields (type-B and type-G) were simulated by finite element method (FEM). Using the two kinds of carbon diffusing fields, many diamond single crystals were synthesized. The effects of carbon diffusing fields on the crystal quality and β value (the ratio of height to diameter of diamond crystal) were studied. The results show that using type-B diffusing field, considerable inclusions appeared in tower-shape diamond crystals with high β values; however, using type- G diffusing field, inclusions were reduced markedly in high β values tower-shape diamond crystals, and the crystal, up to 0.6 carat in weight and 5.3 mm in size, was synthesized. Experimental phenomena were explained well with the help of the FEM.XIAO HongYu MA HongAn TIAN Yu LI Rui LI ShangSheng MA LiQiu LI Yong JIA XiaoPeng 2010Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,1:5
Dependence of nitrogen concentration in type Ib diamonds on synthesis temperature显示文摘Type Ib diamonds were grown by the temperature gradient method (TGM) at 5.5 GPa and 1500-1560 K in a china-type cubic anvil high pressure apparatus using Ni70Mn25Co5 alloy as solvent/catalyst. The concentration of nitrogen (CN) in type Ib diamonds synthesized at different synthesis temperatures was measured by a Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer. The dependence of CN in diamond on synthesis temperature was studied. For the type Ib diamonds synthesized using Ni70Mn25Co5 as catalyst, its CN decreases along with the increase of synthesis temperature.TIAN Yu JIA XiaoPeng ZANG ChuanYi LI ShangSheng XIAO HongYu ZHANG YaFei HUANG GuoFeng LI Rui HAN QiGang MA LiQiu LI Yong CHEN XiaoZhou ZHANG Chong MA HongAn 2009Chinese Science Bulletin2009,54,9:5
FEM analysis on the effect of cobalt content on thermal residual stress in polycrystalline diamond compact(PDC)显示文摘Thermal residual stress in Polycrystalline Diamond Compacts(PDCs) is mainly caused by the mismatch in the Coefficients of Thermal Expansion(CTE) between the polycrystalline diamond(PCD) layer and WC-Co substrate. In the PCD layer, the CTE of cobalt exhibit magnitudes four times larger than those of diamond.Cobalt content in the PCD layer has important effects on the thermal residual stress of PDCs.In this work, the effects of cobalt content on thermal residual stress in PCDs were investigated by the Finite Element Method(FEM).The simulation results show that the thermal residual stress decreases firstly, and then increases with increasing cobalt content(1 vol.%-20 vol.%),which reaches a minimum value when the cobalt content is about 10 vol.%.The FEM analysis results are in agreement with our experimental results. It will provide an effective method for further designing and optimizing PDC properties.LI ZhanChang JIA HongSheng MA HongAn GUO Wei LIU XiaoBing HUANG GuoFeng LI Rui JIA XiaoPeng 2012Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2012,55,4:5

Asymmetric distribution of cytokinins determines root hydrotropism in Arabidopsis thaliana显示文摘The phenomenon of plant root tips sensing moisture gradient in soil and growing towards higher water potential is designated as root hydrotropism, which is critical for plants to survive when water is a limited factor.Molecular mechanisms regulating such a fundamental process, however, are largely unknown. Here we report our identification that cytokinins are key signaling molecules directing root growth orientation in a hydrostimulation(moisture gradient)condition.Lower water potential side of the root tip shows more cytokinin response relative to the higher water potential side.Consequently, two cytokinin downstream type-A response regulators,ARR16 and ARR17,were found to be up-regulated at the lower water potential side, causing increased cell division in the meristem zone, which allows the root to bend towards higher water potential side.Genetic analyses indicated that various cytokinin biosynthesis and signaling mutants, including the arr16 arr17 double mutant, are significantly less responsive to hydrostimulation.Consistently, treatments with chemical inhibitors interfering with either cytokinin biosynthesis or cell division completely abolished root hydrotropic response.Asymmetrically induced expression of ARR16 or ARR17 effectively led to root bending in both wild-type and miz1,a previously known hydrotropism-defective mutant. These data demonstrate that asymmetric cytokinin distribution is a primary determinant governing root hydrotropism.Jinke Chang Xiaopeng Li Weihao Fu Jiawen Wang Yueyuan Yong Hongyong Shi Zhaojun Ding Hong Kui Xiaoping Gou Kai He Jia Li 2019Cell Research2019,29,12:4
Mechanism of diamond-to-graphite transformation at diamond-stable conditions显示文摘The diamond-to-graphite transformation at diamond-stable conditions is studied by temperature gradient method (TGM) under high pressure and high temperature (HPHT), although it is unreasonable from the view of thermodynamic considerations. It is found that, at diamond-stable conditions, for example, at 5.5 GPa and 1550 K, with fine diamond grits as carbon source and NiMnCo alloy as metal solvent assisted, not only large diamond crystals, but metastable regrown graphite crystals would be grown by layer growth mechanism, and the abundance of carbon source in the higher temperature region is indispensable for the presence of metastable regrown graphite crystals. From this transformation, it is concluded that, with metal solvent assisted, although the mechanism of crystal growth could be understood by the macro-mechanism of solubility difference between diamond and graphite in metal solvents, from the point of micro-mechanism, the minimum growth units for diamond or graphite crystals should be at atomic level and unrelated to the kinds of carbon source (diamond or graphite), which could be accumulated free-selectively on the graphite with sp2π or diamond crystals with sp3 bond structure.ZANG ChuangYi CHEN XiaoZhou HU Qiang MA HongAn JIA XiaoPeng 2009Chinese Science Bulletin2009,54,14:4
Carbon-based cathode materials for rechargeable zinc-air batteries: From current collectors to bifunctional integrated air electrodes显示文摘Rechargeable zinc-air batteries(ZABs)have attracted much attention as the next-generation energy conversion and storage devices due to the abundance and environmental friendliness of zinc(Zn)for anode materials,as well as the safety and low cost of aqueous electrolytes. However, rational design of nonprecious and low-cost integrated air cathode materials with a desirable bifunctional oxygen electrocatalytic performance remains a great challenge for the commercialization of rechargeable ZABs.In previous research studies, various cost-effective carbon-supported electrocatalysts and light-weight carbon-based current collectors for air cathodes have been developed, showing vast potential in the application of carbon-based materials. To improve the bifunctional performance and integration of air cathodes, efforts with respect to the design of morphology, defects, and synergistic effects of carbon-based materials have been made.In this perspective, the general understanding of the air cathode construction and the battery working mechanism is discussed. The recent progress in the design of carbon-based materials for air cathodes in rechargeable ZABs is summarized.Several possible future research directions and the expected development trends are also discussed, aiming to facilitate the commercialization of advanced rechargeable ZABs in our life.Jingkun Wu Bin Liu Xiayue Fan Jia Ding Xiaopeng Han Yida Deng Wenbin Hu Cheng Zhong 2020Carbon Energy2020,2,3:4

Modeling plants with sensor data显示文摘Sensor data, typically images and laser data, are essential to modeling real plants. However, due to the complex geometry of the plants, the measurement data are generally limited, thereby bringing great difficulties in classifying and constructing plant organs, comprising leaves and branches. The paper presents an approach to modeling plants with the sensor data by detecting reliable sharp features, i.e. the leaf apexes of the plants with leaves and the branch tips of the plants without leaves, on volumes recovered from the raw data. The extracted features provide good estimations of correct positions of the organs. Thereafter, the leaves are reconstructed separately by simply fitting and optimizing a generic leaf model. One advantage of the method is that it involves limited manual intervention. For plants without leaves, we develop an efficient strategy for decomposition-based skeletonization by using the tip features to reconstruct the 3D models from noisy laser data. Experiments show that the sharp feature detection algorithm is effective, and the proposed plant modeling approach is competent in constructing realistic models with sensor data.MA Wei XIANG Bo ZHA HongBin LIU Jia ZHANG XiaoPeng 2009Science in China(Series F)2009,52,3:3
Effects of aluminum additive on diamond crystallization in the Fe-Ni-C system under high temperature and high pressure conditions显示文摘In this paper,we investigate diamond crystallization in Fe-Ni-C with an aluminum additive and the capability of aluminum for converting graphite to diamond in a series of experiments at 4.9-5.5 GPa and 1240-1500°C.Our experimental results show that the growth habits of diamond crystal have been significantly influenced by the addition of aluminum as a catalyst. The crystal color changes from yellow to nearly colorless. The morphology of the synthesized diamond crystals gradually changes from cubic-octahedron to octahedron in the Fe-Ni-C systems with increasing aluminum additive. The lowest synthesis conditions fell first and then rose with increasing aluminum. We found a suitable addition of aluminum is very effective in lowering the synthesis conditions while an excessive aluminum additive may have a suppressive effect on the diamond nucleation.ZHANG ZhuangFei JIA XiaoPeng LIU XiaoBing HU MeiHua LI Yong YAN BingMin MA HongAn 2012Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2012,55,5:3
Cloning and characterization of the gene cluster required for beauvericin biosynthesis in Fusarium proliferatum显示文摘Beauvericin, a cyclohexadepsipeptide-possessing natural product with synergistic antifungal, insecticidal, and cytotoxic activities. We isolated and characterized the fpBeas gene cluster, devoted to beauvericin biosynthesis, from the filamentous fungus Fusarium proliferatum LF061. Targeted inactivation of the F. proliferatum genomic copy of fpBeas abolished the production of beauvericin. Comparative sequence analysis of the FpBEAS showed 74% similarity with the BbBEAS that synthesizes the cyclic trimeric ester beauvericin in Beauveria bassiana, which assembles N-methyl-dipeptidol monomer intermediates by the programmed iterative use of the nonribosomal peptide synthetase modules. Differences between the organization of the beauvericin loci in F. proliferaturm and B. bassiana revealed the mechanism for high production of beauvericin in F. proliferatum. Our work provides new insights into beauvericin biosynthesis, and may lead to beauvericin overproduction and creation of new analogs via synthetic biology approaches.ZHANG Tao ZHUO Ying JIA XiaoPeng LIU JinTao GAO Hong SONG FuHang LIU Mei ZHANG LiXin 2013Science China(Life Sciences)2013,56,7:3
Effect of Martian atmosphere on aerodynamic performance of supersonic parachute two-body systems显示文摘Supersonic flows around parachute two-body systems are numerically investigated by solving the compressible Navier-Stokes equations. In the present study, both rigid and flexible parachute models are considered, which comprise a capsule and a canopy. The objective of the present study is to investigate the effects of the Martian atmosphere on the unsteady flows produced by these parachute two-body models and the structural behavior of the flexible canopy. It was found that in the Martian atmosphere, the supersonic rigid parachutes with shorter trailing distances exhibited weaker aerodynamic interactions between the capsule wake and canopy shock, resulting in a smaller pressure distribution on the typical surfaces of the canopy. By contrast, because the flow modes around the flexible parachute in the Martian atmosphere were similar to those of the rigid parachute under the air conditions of the wind tunnel tests, the canopy shape was almost unchanged. When a new canopy material was designed by decreasing the Young’s modulus and damping coefficient, an area oscillation phenomenon was observed in the flexible parachute with a trailing distance of 10 in the Martian atmosphere. Consequently, the Martian atmosphere(low density and pressure) has a significant effect on the aerodynamic performance of the flexible parachute system.Xiaopeng XUE He JIA Wei RONG Qi WANG Chih-yung WEN 2022Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2022,35,4:2
