| 1 | Improvement of wheat drought and salt tolerance by expression of a stress- inducible transcription factorGmDREB of soybean (Glycinemax)显示文摘Under stress conditions such as droughthigh-salinity and low-temperature, the transcription factorof DREB (dehydration responsive element binding proteins)improved efficiently stress resistance by regulating the ex-pression of its downstream genes with various environmentastress resistance in plants. GmDREB gene (GenBank Acces-sion No. AF514908) encoding a stress-inducible transcriptionfactor was cloned by screening a cDNA library of Glycinemax cv. Jinong 27 with yeast one-hybrid method. GmDREBgene was 910 bp in length and encoded 174 amino acids con-taining a conserved AP2/EREBP DNA-binding domain of 58amino acids. Two conserved functional amino acids, valineand glutamic acid, were located on the 14th and the 19thamino acid residues in the conserved structural domain. Analkaline amino acid region (KKR) related to a nuclear local-ization signal was at the N-terminal, while an acidic aminoacid region (DDD) related to trans-activation was at theC-terminal. Plant expression vectors were constructed andtransformed into wheat by bombardment. In total, 13 trans-genic plants with Ubi::GmDREB and 11 transgenic plantswith rd29A::GmDREB were identified from 103 regenerationplants by molecular analysis. The drought and salt tolerancesof T1 transgenic lines with Ubi::GmDREB orrd29A::GmDREB were demonstrated to be improved ascompared to wild type. | 3 | Nitrogen deposition alters soil chemical properties and bacterial communities in the Inner Mongolia grassland显示文摘Nitrogen deposition has dramatically altered biodiversity and ecosystem functioning on the earth;however,its effects on soil bacterial community and the underlying mechanisms of these effects have not been thoroughly examined.Changes in ecosystems caused by nitrogen deposition have traditionally been attributed to increased nitrogen content.In fact,nitrogen deposition not only leads to increased soil total N content,but also changes in the NH 4 +-N content,NO 3-N content and pH,as well as changes in the heterogeneity of the four indexes.The soil indexes for these four factors,their heterogeneity and even the plant community might be routes through which nitrogen deposition alters the bacterial community.Here,we describe a 6-year nitrogen addition experiment conducted in a typical steppe ecosystem to investigate the ecological mechanism by which nitrogen deposition alters bacterial abundance,diversity and composition.We found that various characteristics of the bacterial community were explained by different environmental factors.Nitrogen deposition decreased bacterial abundance that is positively related to soil pH value.In addition,nitrogen addition decreased bacterial diversity,which is negatively related to soil total N content and positively related to soil NO 3-N heterogeneity.Finally,nitrogen addition altered bacterial composition that is significantly related to soil NH 4 +-N content.Although nitrogen deposition significantly altered plant biomass,diversity and composition,these characteristics of plant community did not have a significant impact on processes of nitrogen deposition that led to alterations in bacterial abundance,diversity and composition.Therefore,more sensitive molecular technologies should be adopted to detect the subtle shifts of microbial community structure induced by the changes of plant community upon nitrogen deposition. | Ximei Zhang Xingguo Han | 2012 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2012,24,8: | 18 |

| 7 | Major advances in studies of the physical geography and living environment of China during the past 70 years and future prospects显示文摘The natural environment provides material essentials for human survival and development. The characteristics,processes, regional differentiation and forcing mechanisms of the elements of the natural environment(e.g. geomorphology,climate, hydrology, soil, etc.) are the main objects of research in physical geography. China has a complex natural environment and huge regional differentiation and therefore it provides outstanding reserach opportunities in physical geography. This review summarizes the most important developments and the main contributions of research in the physical geography and human living environment in China during the past 70 years. The major topics addressed are the uplift of the Tibetan Plateau and the evolution of its cryosphere, the development of fluvial systems, the acidification of the vast arid region of the Asian interior, variations in the monsoon and westerly climate systems on multiple timescales, the development of lakes and wetlands, the watershed system model, soil erosion, past human-environment interactions, biogeography, and physical geographic zonality. After briefly introducing international research developments, we review the history of research in physical geography in China, focusing on the major achievements and major academic debates, and finally we summarize the status of current research and the future prospects. | 9 | Effects of Material Composition and Water Content on the Mechanical Properties of Landslide Deposits Triggered by the Wenchuan Earthquake显示文摘Abundant landslide deposits were triggered by the Wenchuan earthquake,providing a rich source of material for subsequent debris flows or slope failures under rainfall conditions.A good understanding of the physical and mechanical properties of the landslide deposits is very important to the research on slope failure mechanisms and the initiation of debris flow.Laboratory biaxial compression tests are used to study the material compositions and water content impacts on the mechanical properties of landslide deposits,and a discrete element method(a bond-contact model)is used to study the particle stiffness,bond force,friction coefficient and confining stress impact on the mechanical behaviors and the relationships between the numerical and experimental parameters.The experimental results show that the failure stress of landslide deposits is decreased with increasing content of fine particles and also with increased water content,especially at the initial increasing stage.Cohesion of the saturated landslide deposits is increased,but the friction angle is decreased with the increase in the fine particle content.Shear strength parameters(the cohesion and friction angle)are decreased with the increasing water content at the initial increasing stage,and then,they slowly decrease.There is a critical value of the water content at 5%-7%(in weight)for the failure stress and shear strength parameters of the landslide deposits.Quadratic equations are presented to describe the relation between the bond force and cohesion,and the numerical friction coefficient and the experimental friction angle. | ZHOU Jiawen CUI Peng YANG Xingguo | 2016 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2016,90,1: | 9 |

| 11 | Maize grain concentrations and above-ground shoot acquisition of micronutrients as affected by intercropping with turnip, faba bean, chickpea, and soybean显示文摘Most research on micronutrients in maize has focused on maize grown as a monocrop. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of intercropping on the concentrations of micronutrients in maize grain and their acquisition via the shoot. We conducted field experiments to investigate the effects of intercropping with turnip (Brassica campestris L.), faba bean (Vicia faba L.), chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.), and soybean (Glycine max L.) on the iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) concentrations in the grain and their acquisition via the above-ground shoots of maize (Zea mays L.). Compared with monocropped maize grain, the grain of maize intercropped with legumes showed lower concentrations of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn and lower values of their corresponding harvest indexes. The micronutrient concentrations and harvest indexes in grain of maize intercropped with turnip were the same as those in monocropped maize grain. Intercropping stimulated the above-ground maize shoot acquisition of Fe, Mn, Cu and Zn, when averaged over different phosphorus (P) application rates. To our knowledge, this is the first report on the effects of intercropping on micronutrient concentrations in maize grain and on micronutrients acquisition via maize shoots (straw+grain). The maize grain Fe and Cu concentrations, but not Mn and Zn concentrations, were negatively correlated with maize grain yields. The concentrations of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn in maize grain were positively correlated with their corresponding harvest indexes. The decreased Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn concentrations in grain of maize intercropped with legumes were attributed to reduced translocation of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn from vegetative tissues to grains. This may also be related to the delayed senescence of maize plants intercropped with legumes. We conclude that turnip/maize intercropping is beneficial to obtain high maize grain yield without decreased concentrations of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn in the grain. | 15 | Gut microbial profiles and the role in lipid metabolism in Shaziling pigs显示文摘Shaziling pig,a Chinese indigenous breed,has been classified as a fatty pig model.However,the gut microbial development and role in lipid metabolism in Shaziling pigs has been rarely reported.Here,we compared the lipid metabolic and microbial profiles at 30,60,90,150,210,and 300 d of age between Shaziling and Yorkshire pigs.Predictably,there were marked differences in the liver lipids(i.e.,cholesterol,glucose,and low-density lipoprotein)and the lipid related expressions(i.e.,SREBP1/2,LXRa/b,DGAT1/2,and FABP1-3)between Shaziling and Yorkshire pigs.Bacteria sequencing in the ileal digesta and mucosa showed that Shaziling pigs had a higher a-diversity and higher abundances of probiotics,such as Lactobacillus johnsonii,Lactobacillus amylovorus,and Clostridium butyricum.Thirty-five differentiated metabolites were further identified in the mucosa between Shaziling and Yorkshire pigs,which were enriched in the carbohydrate,protein,glucose and amino acid metabolism and bile acid biosynthesis.Furthermore,7 differentiated microbial species were markedly correlated with metabolites,indicating the role of gut microbiota in the host metabolism.Next,the role of differentiated L.johnsonii in lipid metabolism was validated in Duroc×Landrace×Yorkshire(DLY)pigs and the results showed that L.johnsonii mono-colonization promoted lipid deposition and metabolism by altering gut microbiota(i.e.,Megasphaera elsdenii and L.johnsonii)and DGAT1/DGAT2/CD36-PPARg gene expressions.In conclusion,Shaziling pigs exhibited different metabolic and microbial profiles compared with Yorkshire pigs,which might have contributed to the diverse metabolic phenotypes,and the significant enrichment of L.johnsonii in Shaziling pigs promoted lipid metabolism and obesity of DLY pigs,which provided a novel idea to improve the fat content of lean pigs. | Jie Ma Yehui Duan Rui Li Xiaoxiao Liang Tiejun Li Xingguo Huang Yulong Yin Jie Yin | 2022 | Animal Nutrition2022,,2: | 6 |
| 16 | CRISPR/Cas9 editing of wheat TaQ genes alters spike morphogenesis and grain threshability显示文摘The Ta Q alleles as one of the AP2-like transcription factors in common wheat(Triticum aestivum) play an important role in the evolution of spike characteristics from wild and domesticated emmer to modern wheat cultivars. Its loss-of-function mutant not only changed threshability and spike architecture but also affected plant height, flowering time, and floret structure. However, the comprehensive functions of Ta AQ and Ta Dq genes in wheat have not been fully elucidated yet. Here, CRISPR/Sp Cas9 was used to edit wheat Ta AQ and Ta Dq. We obtained homozygous plants in the T1 generation with loss of function of only Ta AQ or Ta Dq and simultaneous loss of function of Ta AQ and Ta Dq to analyze the effect of these genes on wheat spikes and floret shapes. The results demonstrated that the Ta AQ-edited plants and the Ta AQ and Ta Dq simultaneously-edited plants were nearly similar in spike architecture, whereas the Ta Dq-edited plants were different from the wild-type ones only in plant height. Moreover, the Ta AQ-edited plants or the Ta AQ and Ta Dq simultaneously-edited plants were more brittle than the wild-type and the Ta Dqedited plants. Based on the expression profiling, we postulated that the VRN1, FUL2, SEP2, SEP5, and SEP6 genes might affect the number of spikelets and florets per spike in wheat by regulating the expression of Ta Q. Combining the results of this report and previous reports, we conceived a regulatory network of wheat traits, including plant height, spike shape, and floral organs, which were influenced by AP2-like family genes. | 17 | Hot top electromagnetic casting research of Al thin slab显示文摘The hot top EMC (electromagnetic casting) method was put forward, namely, the shape of top liquid column was formed by the hot top in the screen and the semi suspended liquid column was formed by the electromagnetic force nearby the liquid solid interface frontier. Using the numerical simulating technique, the temperature distribution was discussed, the effect of parameters such as upper conduct distance (UCD), cooling water rate of flow, pouring temperature and liquid column height on casting velocity were studied, the relationship among them was confirmed finally. According to the calculated results, the hot top EMC shaping system was designed and a lot of experiments were performed. The pure Al thin slabs of 480 mm×20 mm×850 mm were made successfully. | 20 | Application of two remote sensing GPP algorithms at a semiarid grassland site of North China显示文摘Estimation of gross primary production(GPP)from remote sensing data is an important approach to study regional or global carbon cycle.However,for a given algorithm,it usually has its limitation on applications to a wide range of vegetation types and/or under diverse environmental conditions.This study was conducted to compare the performance of two remote sensing GPP algorithms,the MODIS GPP and the vegetation photosynthesis model(VPM),in a semiarid temperate grassland ecosystem.Methods The study was conducted at a typical grassland site in Ujimuqin of Inner Mongolia,North China,over 2 years in 2006 and 2007.Environmental controls on GPP measured by the eddy covariance(EC)technique at the study site were first investigated with path analysis of meteorological and soil moisture data at a daily and 8-day time steps.The estimates of GPP derived from the MODIS GPP and the VPM with site-specific inputs were then compared with the values of EC measurements as ground truthing at the site.Site-specific emax(a)was estimated by using rectangular hyperbola function based on the 7-day flux data at 30-min intervals over the peak period of the growing season(May to September).Important Findings Between the two remote sensing GPP algorithms and various estimates of the fraction of absorbed photosynthetic active radiation(FPAR),the VPM based on FPAR derived from the enhanced vegetation index(EVI)works the best in predicting GPP against the ground truthing of EC GPP.A path analysis indicates that the EC GPP in this semiarid temperate grassland ecosystem is controlled predominantly by both soil water and temperature.The site water condition is slightly better simulated by the moisture multiplier in the VPM than in the MODIS GPP algorithm,which is a most probable explanation for a better performance of the VPM than MODIS GPP algorithm in this semiarid grassland ecosystem. | Jianfeng Liu Osbert Jianxin Sun Hongmei Jin Zhiyong Zhou Xingguo Han | 2011 | Journal of Plant Ecology2011,4,4: | 5 |
