Bi_(2)S_(3) Nanostructures: A New Photocatalyst显示文摘Uniform colloidal Bi_(2)S_(3) nanodots and nanorods with different sizes have been prepared in a controllable manner via a hot injection method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results show that the resulting nanocrystals have an orthorhombic structure. Both the diameter and length of the nanorods increase with increasing concentration of the precursors. All of the prepared Bi_(2)S_(3) nanostructures show high efficiency in the photodegradation of rhodamine B, especially in the case of small sized nanodots-which is possibly due to their high surface area. The dynamics of the photocatalysis is also discussed. | Tong Wu Xinggui Zhou Hua Zhang Xinhua Zhong | 2010 | Nano Research2010,3,5: | 18
Iron-based Fischer–Tropsch synthesis of lower olefins: The nature of χ-Fe_5C_2 catalyst and why and how to introduce promoters显示文摘As a sustainable and short-flow process, iron-catalyzed direct conversion of CO-rich syngas to lower olefins without intermediate steps, i.e., Fischer–Tropsch-to-Olefins(FTO), has received increasing attention. However, its fundamental understanding is usually limited by the complex crystal phase composition in addition to the interferences of the promoter effects and inevitable catalyst deactivation. Until recently, the combination of multiple in-situ/ex-situ characterizations and theoretical studies has evidenced H?gg iron carbide(χ-Fe_5C_2) as the dominant active phase of iron-based Fischer–Tropsch catalysts. This perspective attempts to review and discuss some recent progresses on the nature of χ-Fe_5C_2 catalyst and the crucial effects of promoters on the FTO performance from theoretical and experimental viewpoints, aiming to provide new insights into the rational design of iron-based FTO catalysts. | Di Wang Bingxu Chen Xuezhi Duan De Chen Xinggui Zhou | 2016 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2016,25,6: | 9
碳催化反应:关于氧化脱氢反应的综述(英文)显示文摘Carbon mediated catalysis has gained an increasing attention in both areas of nanocatalysis and nanomaterials. The progress in carbon nanomaterials provides many new opportunities to manip-ulate the types and properties of active sites of catalysts through manipulating structures, function-alities and properties of carbon surfaces. The present review focuses on progresses in carbon medi-ated oxidative dehydrogenation reactions of ethylbenzene, propane, and butane. The state-of-the-art of the developments of carbon mediated catalysis is discussed in terms of fundamental studies on adsorption of oxygen and hydrocarbons, reaction mechanism as well as effects of carbon nano-material structures and surface functional groups on the catalytic performance. | 4 | Active sites engineering of Pt/CNT oxygen reduction catalysts by atomic layer deposition显示文摘Understanding carbon-supported Pt-catalyzed oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)from the perspective of the active sites is of fundamental and practical importance. In this study, three differently sized carbon nanotube-supported Pt nanoparticles(Pt/CNT)are prepared by both atomic layer deposition(ALD)and impregnation methods. The performances of the catalysts toward the ORR in acidic media are comparatively studied to probe the effects of the sizes of the Pt nanoparticles together with their distributions, electronic properties, and local environments. The ALD-Pt/CNT catalysts show much higher ORR activity and selectivity than the impregnation-Pt/CNT catalysts. This outstanding ORR performance is ascribed to the well-controlled Pt particle sizes and distributions, desirable Pt^04f binding energy, and the Cl-free Pt surfaces based on the electrocatalytic measurements, catalyst characterizations, and model calculations. The insights reported here could guide the rational design and fine-tuning of carbon-supported Pt catalysts for the ORR. | Jie Gan Jiankang Zhang Baiyan Zhang Wenyao Chen Dongfang Niu Yong Qin Xuezhi Duan Xinggui Zhou | 2020 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2020,29,6: | 5
Polyoxometalates-engineered hydrogen generation rate and durability of Pt/CNT catalysts from ammonia borane显示文摘Heterogeneously catalyzed hydrolytic dehydrogenation of ammonia borane is a remarkable structure sensitive reaction. In this work, a strategy by using polyoxometalates(POMs) as the ligands is proposed to engineer the surface and electronic properties of Pt/CNT catalysts toward the enhanced hydrogen generation rate and durability. Three kinds of POMs, i.e., silicotungstic acid(STA), phosphotungstic acid(PTA)and molybdophosphoric acid(PMA), are comparatively studied, among which the STA shows positive effects on the catalytic activity and durability. A catalyst structure-performance relationship is established by a combination of kinetic and isotopic analyses with multiple characterization techniques, such as HAADF-STEM, EDS, Raman spectroscopy and XPS. It is shown that the STA compared to the other two POMs can increase the Pt binding energy and thus promote the reaction. The insights demonstrated here could open a new avenue for boosting the reaction by employing the POMs as the ligands to engineer the catalyst electronic properties. | Wenzhao Fu Chen Han Dali Li Wenyao Chen Jian Ji Gang Qian Weikang Yuan Xuezhi Duan Xinggui Zhou | 2020 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2020,29,2: | 5
Fabrication of K-promoted iron/carbon nanotubes composite catalysts for the Fischer–Tropsch synthesis of lower olefins显示文摘K-promoted iron/carbon nanotubes composite(i.e., Fe K-OX) was prepared by a redox reaction between carbon nanotubes and K_2FeO_4followed by thermal treatments on a purpose as the Fischer–Tropsch catalyst for the direct conversion of syngas to lower olefins. Its catalytic behaviors were compared with those of the other two Fe-IM and Fe K-IM catalysts prepared by impregnation method followed by thermal treatments. The novel Fe K-OX composite catalyst is found to exhibit higher hydrocarbon selectivity, lower olefins selectivity and chain growth probability as well as better stability. The catalyst structureperformance relationship has been established using multiple techniques including XRD, Raman, TEM and EDS elemental mapping. In addition, effects of additional potassium into the Fe K-OX composite catalyst on the FTO performance were also investigated and discussed. Additional potassium promoters further endow the catalysts with higher yield of lower olefins. These results demonstrated that the introduction method of promoters and iron species plays a crucial role in the design and fabrication of highly active, selective and stable iron-based composite catalysts for the FTO reaction. | Xuezhi Duan Di Wang Gang Qian John C.Walmsley Anders Holmen De Chen Xinggui Zhou | 2016 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2016,25,2: | 3
Probing deactivation by coking in catalyst pellets for dry reforming of methane using a pore network model显示文摘Dry reforming of methane(DRM) is an attractive technology for utilizing the greenhouse gases(CO_(2) and CH_(4)) to produce syngas. However, the catalyst pellets for DRM are heavily plagued by deactivation by coking, which prevents this technology from commercialization. In this work, a pore network model is developed to probe the catalyst deactivation by coking in a Ni/Al_(2)O_(3) catalyst pellet for DRM. The reaction conditions can significantly change the coking rate and then affect the catalyst deactivation. The catalyst lifetime is higher under lower temperature, pressure, and CH_(4)/CO_(2) molar ratio, but the maximum coke content in a catalyst pellet is independent of these reaction conditions. The catalyst pellet with larger pore diameter, narrower pore size distribution and higher pore connectivity is more robust against catalyst deactivation by coking, as the pores in this pellet are more difficult to be plugged or inaccessible. The maximum coke content is also higher for narrower pore size distribution and higher pore connectivity, as the number of inaccessible pores is lower. Besides, the catalyst pellet radius only slightly affects the coke content, although the diffusion limitation increases with the pellet radius. These results should serve to guide the rational design of robust DRM catalyst pellets against deactivation by coking. | Yu Wang Qunfeng Zhang Xinlei Liu Junqi Weng Guanghua Ye Xinggui Zhou | 2023 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2023,55,3: | 2
Compositional dependence of hydrogenation performance of Ti-Zr-Hf-Mo-Nb high-entropy alloys for hydrogen/tritium storage显示文摘A series of Ti-Zr-Hf-Mo-Nb high-entropy alloys with different Mo concentrations were developed as candidate materials for hydrogen/tritium storage in solid phase. The crystal structures and hydrogenation properties of the Ti-Zr-Hf-Mo-Nb alloys were investigated by X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry techniques. All the alloys have a body-centred cubic single phase structure. The results demonstrate that the cell volume of the Ti-Zr-Hf-Mo-Nb hydride decreases with increasing Mo concentration, which reduces their thermal stability. The theoretical calculation proposes that the lower binding energy of the Ti-Zr-Hf-Mo-Nb hydride decreases the thermal stability of Ti-Zr-Hf-Mo-Nb alloys with higher Mo content. The great hydrogenation performance for all the Ti-Zr-Hf-Mo-Nb alloys is owing to their reversible single-phase transformation during the hydrogen absorption-desorption cycle, which would be bene ficial to improving the hydrogen recycling rate and preventing the disproportionation. The compositional dependence of the hydrogenation performance of the Ti-Zr-Hf-Mo-Nb alloys was established and will be useful in designing novel hydrogen/tritium storage materials to satisfy the requirements of diffe rent application fields in hydrogen, solar thermal and nuclear energy. | Huahai Shen Jutao Hu Pengcheng Li Gang Huang Jianwei Zhang Jinchao Zhang Yiwu Mao Haiyan Xiao Xiaosong Zhou Xiaotao Zu Xinggui Long Shuming Peng | 2020 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,52,20: | 2
Platelet carbon nanofibers as support of Pt-CoO electrocatalyst for superior hydrogen evolution显示文摘Exploration of cost-effective Pt/C catalysts has been a significant issue for electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) toward sustainable energy conversion and storage.Herein,we report a fabrication strategy by employing platelet carbon nanofibers(p-CNF) as the support to immobilize Pt-CoO HER electrocatalyst using atomic layer deposition method. The edge-rich p-CNF support is found to act as the anchoring sites of Pt nanoparticles and favorably capture electrons from Pt to yield electron-deficient Pt surfaces for the boosted HER.Additionally, the sequential growth of CoO onto the Pt/p-CNF catalyst elaborately constructs the Pt-CoO interface and facilitates the electron transfer from Pt to CoO,which further enhances the HER activity. These advantages endow the fabricated Pt-CoO/p-CNF catalyst with the superior HER activity,e.g.,a very low overpotential of 26 mV at the current density of 10 mA·cm-2 and a mass activity of 4.42 A·mgPt-1at the overpotential of 30 mV,18.8 times higher than that of the commercial20 wt% Pt/C catalyst. The insights reported here could shed light on for the fabrication of cost-effective Pt-based composite HER catalysts. | Jie Gan Zikun Huang Wei Luo Wenyao Chen Yueqiang Cao Gang Qian Xinggui Zhou Xuezhi Duan | 2021 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2021,30,1: | 1
Optimization of catalyst pellet structures and operation conditions for CO methanation显示文摘A fundamental understanding of the effects of catalyst pellet structures and operation conditions on catalytic performance is crucial for the reactions limited by diffusion mass transfer. In this work, a numerical investigation has been carried out to understand the effect of catalyst pellet shapes(sphere, cylinder, trilobe and tetralobe) on the reaction-diffusion behaviors of CO methanation. The results reveal that the poly-lobe pellets with larger external specific surface area have shorter diffusion path, and thus result in higher effectiveness factors and CO conversion rates in comparison with the spherical and cylindrical pellets. The effects of operating conditions and pore structures on the trilobular catalyst pellet with high performance are further probed. Though lower temperature can contribute to larger effectiveness factors of pellets, it also brings about lower reaction rates, and pressure has little impact on the effectiveness factors of the pellets. The increase in porosity can reduce the pellet internal diffusion limitations effectively and there exists an optimal porosity for the methanation reaction. Finally, the height of the trilobular pellet is optimized under the given geometric volume, and the results demonstrate that the higher the trilobular catalyst, the better the reaction performance within the allowable mechanical strength range. | Yiquan Zhao Yao Shi Guanghua Ye Jing Zhang Xuezhi Duan Gang Qian Xinggui Zhou | 2021 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2021,34,12: | 1
Mechanistic aspects of facet-dependent CH_(4)/C_(2+)selectivity over aχ-Fe_(5)C_(2)Fischer-Tropsch catalyst显示文摘Structure-performance relationship is a complex issue in iron-catalyzed Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, and it is not easy to elucidate it by experimental investigations.First-principle calculation is a powerful method for explaining experimental results and guiding catalyst design. In this study,we investigated the reaction mechanisms of CH_(4)formation and C-C coupling on fourχ-Fe_(5)C_(2)surfaces and established the kinetic equations to compare the rates of CH_(4)formation and C_(1)+C_(1)coupling reactions and determine the CH_(4)/C_(2+)selectivity.The results show that the geometry of theχ-Fe_(5)C_(2)surfaces has little effect on the formation rate of CH_(4);however,the C_(1)+C_(1)coupling reactions are significantly affected by the surface geometry. The C_(1)+C_(1)coupling reaction rates on the terraced-like(510)and(021)surfaces are much higher than those on the stepped-like(001)and(100)surfaces.Based on these results,we established a Brùnsted-Evans-Polanyi(BEP)relationship between the effective barrier difference for CH_(4)formation and C_(1)+C_(1)coupling(ΔE_(eff))and the adsorption energy of C+4H(ΔE_(C+4H))onχ-Fe_(5)C_(2)surfaces.ΔE_(C+4H)can be used as a descriptor for CH_(4)/C_(2+)selectivity on different surfaces ofχ-Fe_(5)C_(2). | Thanh Hai Pham Junbo Cao Nan Song Yueqiang Cao Bingxu Chen Gang Qian Xinggui Zhou De Chen Xuezhi Duan | 2022 | Green Energy & Environment2022,7,3: | 1
Coupling non-isothermal trickle-bed reactor with catalyst pellet models to understand the reaction and diffusion in gas oil hydrodesulfurization显示文摘In this work,a trickle-bed reactor coupled with catalyst pellet model is employed to understand the effects of the temperature and catalyst pellet structures on the reaction-diffusion behaviors in gas oil hydrodesulfurization(HDS).The non-isothermal reactor model is determined to be reasonable due to non-negligible temperature variation caused by the reaction heat. The reaction rate along the reactor is mainly dominated by the temperature, and the sulfur concentration gradient in the catalyst pellet decreases gradually along the reactor, leading to the increased internal effectiveness factor. For the fixed catalyst bed volume, there exists a compromise between the catalyst reaction rate and effectiveness factor.Under commonly studied catalyst pellet size of 0.8-3 mm and porosity of 0.4-0.8,an optimization of the temperature and catalyst pellet structures is carried out,and the optimized outlet sulfur content decreases to 7.6 wppm better than the commercial level at 0.96 mm of the catalyst pellet size and 0.40 of the catalyst porosity. | Xingqiang Zhao Changfeng Yang Mengke Lu Yao Shi Gang Qian Xinggui Zhou Xuezhi Duan | 2020 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2020,28,4: | 1

Active sites and reaction mechanism for N-doped carbocatalysis of phenol removal显示文摘Heteroatom-doping of carbocatalysts has been a powerful strategy to remarkably enhance the catalytic performance.Herein, the underlying nature of N promotional effects on peroxymonosulfate(PMS)activation for phenol removal is understood by combining kinetics analysis with multiple techniques.A strategy using mixed acid oxidation of carbon nanotube(CNT)followed by NH3 treatment is employed to yield a series of catalysts with different N-doping contents but similar fraction of sp^(2)-hybridized carbon and defective degree, endowing with a chance to discriminate the dominant N-containing active sites. The multi-sites kinetics analysis suggests the graphitic N-containing sites as the dominant active sites. The mechanism of the surface-bound reactive species is also discriminated as the dominant reaction mechanism. The insights reported here could provide the methodology to fundamentally understand the heteroatom-doping effects of carbocatalysis. | Mingjie Zhang Chen Han Wenyao Chen Wei Luo Yueqiang Cao Gang Qian Xinggui Zhou Xiaoguang Duan Shaobin Wang Xuezhi Duan | 2020 | Green Energy & Environment2020,5,4: | 1
Kinetics and mechanistic insights into the active sites of Au catalysts for selective propylene oxidation显示文摘Identification of the catalytically active sites emerges as the prerequisite for an atomic-level comprehensive understanding and further rational design of highly efficient catalysts. Here,we demonstrate a kinetics strategy to identify the active sites of Au catalyst for the disentanglement of geometric and electronic effects on the selective oxidation of propylene to acrolein. Both the Ti-containing titanium-silicalite-1(TS-1)and Ti-free silicalite-1(S-1)were employed as supports to immobilize Au catalysts, which were investigated by a combination of multiple characterization, kinetics analysis, crystal structure modelling. The Au(111)sites are identified as the main active site for acrolein formation, while their electronic effects are highly relevant to the presence or absence of Ti.Moreover, propylene epoxide(PO)formation mainly involves the co-participation of Au and Ti sites, the proximity between Au and Ti sites is found to have less influences on PO formation in a certain distance. In comparison, acrolein is very likely to generate over Au(111)sites via the hydrogen-assisted O_(2) activation to oxygenated species for its oxidizing propylene. The insights gained here could guide the design and preparation of Au catalysts for selective propylene oxidation. | Qianhong Wang Zhihua Zhang Keng Sang Wenyao Chen Gang Qian Jing Zhang Xinggui Zhou Xuezhi Duan | 2023 | Nano Research2023,16,5: | 1
Au/TS-1 catalyst for propylene epoxidation with H_(2)and O_(2):Effect of surface property and morphology of TS-1 zeolite显示文摘The catalytic performances over propylene epoxidation with H_(2)and O_(2)(HOPO process)are significantly affected by the properties(e.g.,surface properties,Ti coordination, morphology)of titanosilicate zeolite.Introducing urea into zeolite synthesis is a simple and convenient method to modify these properties of titanosilicate zeolite.Uncalcined pore-blocked titanium silicalite-1(TS-1,i.e.,TS-1-B)with the lower urea dosage possesses more defective structure and unsaturated coordinated Ti sites verified by 29Si nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)analysis, which results in a high initial activity and hydrogen efficiency;while the high surface acidity generated by these Ti species leads to a continuous decrease in the activity and the propylene oxide(PO)selectivity during the reaction. As the amount of urea gradually increases, the TS-1-B samples present the reduced surface defects and defective and unsaturated Ti species.Specially,TS-1-B-0.30U presents the weaker PO adsorption on PO-diffusion reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectra(DRIFTS),thus results in the high stable PO formation rate and selectivity over its Au catalyst.Furthermore,a flat-plate-like shape with a shorter thickness of 100 nm along the b-axis direction is observed on the urea-modified TS-1.Compared with the conventional ellipsoidal TS-1 with crystal sizes of 200 and 500 nm,the flat-plate-like TS-1-0.30U displays the less surface defects, unsaturated Ti species, the weaker Lewis acid, which is favorable for the desorption and intracrystalline diffusion of PO,thus reduces the occurrence of side reactions for the improved selectivity and stability. This work may provide a reference for developing titanium-containing materials with high activity and stability over HOPO reaction. | Jialun Xu Zhihua Zhang Daiyi Yu Wei Du Nan Song Xuezhi Duan Xinggui Zhou | 2023 | Nano Research2023,16,5: | 1
