Impacts of changing scale on Getis-Ord Gi* hotspots of CPUE:a case study of the neon flying squid (Ommastrephes bartramii)in the northwest Pacific Ocean显示文摘We examined the scale impacts on spatial hot and cold spots of CPUE for Ommastrephes bartramii in the northwest Pacific Ocean. The original fishery data were tessellated to 18 spatial scales from 5′×5′ to 90′×90′ with a scale interval of 5′ to identify the local clusters. The changes in location, boundaries, and statistics regarding the Getis-Ord Gi* hot and cold spots in response to the spatial scales were analyzed in detail. Several statistics including Min, mean, Max, SD, CV, skewness, kurtosis, first quartile(Q1), median, third quartile(Q3), area and centroid were calculated for spatial hot and cold spots. Scaling impacts were examined for the selected statistics using linear, logarithmic, exponential, power law and polynomial functions. Clear scaling relations were identified for Max, SD and kurtosis for both hot and cold spots. For the remaining statistics, either a difference of scale impacts was found between the two clusters, or no clear scaling relation was identified. Spatial scales coarser than 30′ are not recommended to identify the local spatial patterns of fisheries because the boundary and locations of hot and cold spots at a coarser scale are significantly different from those at the original scale.FENG Yongjiu CHEN Xinjun GAO Feng LIU Yang 2018Acta Oceanologica Sinica2018,37,5:23
Age and Growth of Chub Mackerel (Scomber japonicus) in the East China and Yellow Seas Using Sectioned Otolith Samples显示文摘Although chub mackerel (Scomber japonicus) is a primary pelagic fish species,we have only limited knowledge on its key life history processes. The present work studied the age and growth of chub mackerel in the East China and Yellow Seas. Age was determined by interpreting and counting growth rings on the sagitta otoliths of 252 adult fish caught by the Chinese commercial purse seine fleet during the period from November 2006 to January 2007 and 150 juveniles from bottom trawl surveys on the spawn-ing ground in May 2006. The difference between the assumed birth date of 1st April and date of capture was used to adjust the age determined from counting the number of complete translucent rings. The parameters of three commonly used growth models, the von Bertalanffy,Logistic and Gompertz models, were estimated using the maximum likelihood method. Based on the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC),the von Bertalanffy growth model was found to be the most appropriate model. The size-at-age and size-at-maturity values were also found to decrease greatly compared with the results achieved in the 1950s,which was caused by heavy exploitation over the last few decades.LI Gang CHEN Xinjun FENG Bo 2008Journal of Ocean University of China2008,7,4:12
Importance of Weighting for Multi-Variable Habitat Suitability Index Model: A Case Study of Winter- Spring Cohort of Ommastrephes bartramii in the Northwestern Pacific Ocean显示文摘Weighting values for different habitat variables used in multi-factor habitat suitability index (HSI) modeling reflect the relative influences of different variables on distribution of fish species. Using the winter-spring cohort of neon flying squid (Ommastrephes bartramii) in the Northwestern Pacific Ocean as an example, we evaluated the impact of different weighting schemes on the HSI models based on sea surface temperature, gradient of sea surface temperature and sea surface height. We compared differences in predicted fishing effort and HSI values resulting from different weighting. The weighting for different habitat variables could greatly influence HSI modeling and should be carefully done based on their relative importance in influencing the resource spatial distribution. Weighting in a multi-factor HSI model should be further studied and optimization methods should be developed to improve forecasting squid spatial distributions.GONG Caixia CHEN Xinjun GAO Feng CHEN Yong 2012Journal of Ocean University of China2012,11,2:11
The impact of spatial scale on local Moran's I clustering of annual fishing effort for Dosidicus gigas offshore Peru显示文摘The spatial scale(?shing grid) of ?sheries research af fects the observed spatial patterns of?sheries resources such as catch-per-unit-ef fort(CPUE) and ?shing ef fort. We examined the scale impact of high value(HH) clusters of the annual ?shing ef fort for Dosidicus gigas of fshore Peru from 2009 to 2012.For a multi-scale analysis, the original commercial ?shery data were tessellated to twelve spatial scales from 6′ to 72′ with an interval of 6′. Under these spatial scales, D. gigas clusters were identi?ed using the Anselin Local Moran's I. Statistics including the number of points, mean CPUE, standard deviation(SD),skewness, kurtosis, area and centroid were calculated for these HH clusters. We found that the z-score of global Moran's I and the number of points for HH clusters follow a power law scaling relationship from2009 to 2012. The mean ef fort and its SD also follow a power law scaling relationship from 2009 to 2012.The skewness follows a linear scaling relationship in 2010 and 2011 but ?uctuates with spatial scale in2009 and 2012; kurtosis follows a logarithmic scale relationship in 2009, 2011 and 2012 but a linear scale relationship in 2010. Cluster area follows a power law scaling relationship in 2010 and 2012, a linear scaling relationship in 2009, and a quadratic scaling relationship in 2011. Based on the peaks of Moran's I indices and the multi-scale analysis, we conclude that the optimum scales are 12′ in 2009 ? 2011 and 6′ in 2012, while the coarsest allowable scales are 48′ in 2009, 2010 and 2012, and 60′ in 2011. Our research provides the best spatial scales for conducting spatial analysis of this pelagic species, and provides a better understanding of scaling behavior for the ?shing ef fort of D. gigas in the of fshore Peruvian waters.FENG Yongjiu CHEN Lijuan CHEN Xinjun 2019Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2019,37,1:8
Dynamic Response Analysis of Bird Strike on Aircraft Windshield Based on Damage-modified Nonlinear Viscoelastic Constitutive Relation显示文摘Damage-modified nonlinear viscoelastic constitutive equation and failure criterion are introduced and the three-dimensional incremental forms are deduced based on the updated Lagrangian approach. A simple tensile test model and a split Hopkinson pressure bar model are built to verify the accuracy of the subroutine implemented within the non-linear finite element program LS-DYNA. A numerical model of bird strike on windshield is established to study the responses of windshield under three different bird velocities at three sites. The bird is represented by a cylinder with a hemisphere at each end and the contact-impact coupling algorithm is used in this study. It is found that the implemented subroutine can properly describe the mechanical behavior of polymethyl methacrylate under low and high strain rates and large deformation, and can be used validly.Wang Xinjun Feng Zhenzhou Wang Fusheng Yue Zhufeng 2007Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2007,20,6:7
Modeling Monthly Spatial Distribution of Ommastrephes bartramii CPUE in the Northwest Pacific and Its Spatially Nonstationary Relationships with the Marine Environment显示文摘There are substantial spatial variations in the relationships between catch-per-unit-effort(CPUE) and oceanographic conditions with respect to pelagic species. This study examines the monthly spatiotemporal distribution of CPUE of the neon flying squid, Ommastrephes bartramii, in the Northwest Pacific from July to November during 2004–2013, and analyzes the relationships with oceanographic conditions using a generalized additive model(GAM) and geographically weighted regression(GWR) model. The results show that most of the squids were harvested in waters with sea surface temperature(SST) between 7.6 and 24.6℃, chlorophyll-a(Chl-a) concentration below 1.0 mgm^(-3), sea surface salinity(SSS) between 32.7 and 34.6, and sea surface height(SSH) between-12.8 and 28.4 cm. The monthly spatial distribution patterns of O. bartramii predicted using GAM and GWR models are similar to observed patterns for all months. There are notable variations in the local coefficients of GWR, indicating the presence of spatial non-stationarity in the relationship between O. bartramii CPUE and oceanographic conditions. The statistical results show that there were nearly equal positive and negative coefficients for Chl-a, more positive than negative coefficients for SST, and more negative than positive coefficients for SSS and SSH. The overall accuracies of the hot spots predicted by GWR exceed 60%(except for October), indicating a good performance of this model and its improvement over GAM. Our study provides a better understanding of the ecological dynamics of O. bartramii CPUE and makes it possible to use GWR to study the spatially nonstationary characteristics of other pelagic species.FENG Yongjiu LIU Yang CHEN Xinjun 2018Journal of Ocean University of China2018,17,3:5
A New model to forecast fishing ground of Scomber japonicus in the Yellow Sea and East China Sea显示文摘The pelagic species is closely related to the marine environmental factors, and establishment of forecasting model of fishing ground with high accuracy is an important content for pelagic fishery. The chub mackerel(Scomber japonicus) in the Yellow Sea and East China Sea is an important fishing target for Chinese lighting purse seine fishery. Based on the fishery data from China's mainland large-type lighting purse seine fishery for chub mackerel during the period of 2003 to 2010 and the environmental data including sea surface temperature(SST), gradient of the sea surface temperature(GSST), sea surface height(SSH) and geostrophic velocity(GV), we attempt to establish one new forecasting model of fishing ground based on boosted regression trees. In this study, the fishing areas with fishing effort is considered as one fishing ground, and the areas with no fishing ground are randomly selected from a background field, in which the fishing areas have no records in the logbooks. The performance of the forecasting model of fishing ground is evaluated with the testing data from the actual fishing data in 2011. The results show that the forecasting model of fishing ground has a high prediction performance, and the area under receiver operating curve(AUC) attains 0.897. The predicted fishing grounds are coincided with the actual fishing locations in 2011, and the movement route is also the same as the shift of fishing vessels, which indicates that this forecasting model based on the boosted regression trees can be used to effectively forecast the fishing ground of chub mackerel in the Yellow Sea and East China Sea.GAO Feng CHEN Xinjun GUAN Wenjiang LI Gang 2016Acta Oceanologica Sinica2016,35,4:5
A Comparative Study of Spatially Clustered Distribution of Jumbo Flying Squid(Dosidicus gigas)Offshore Peru显示文摘We examined spatially clustered distribution of jumbo flying squid(Dosidicus gigas) in the offshore waters of Peru bounded by 78?–86?W and 8?–20?S under 0.5?×0.5? fishing grid. The study is based on the catch-per-unit-effort(CPUE) and fishing effort from Chinese mainland squid jigging fleet in 2003–2004 and 2006–2013. The data for all years as well as the eight years(excluding El Ni?o events) were studied to examine the effect of climate variation on the spatial distribution of D. gigas. Five spatial clusters reflecting the spatial distribution were computed using K-means and Getis-Ord Gi* for a detailed comparative study. Our results showed that clusters identified by the two methods were quite different in terms of their spatial patterns, and K-means was not as accurate as Getis-Ord Gi*, as inferred from the agreement degree and receiver operating characteristic. There were more areas of hot and cold spots in years without the impact of El Ni?o, suggesting that such large-scale climate variations could reduce the clustering level of D. gigas. The catches also showed that warm El Ni?o conditions and high water temperature were less favorable for D. gigas offshore Peru. The results suggested that the use of K-means is preferable if the aim is to discover the spatial distribution of each sub-region(cluster) of the study area, while Getis-Ord Gi* is preferable if the aim is to identify statistically significant hot spots that may indicate the central fishing ground.FENG Yongjiu CUI Li CHEN Xinjun LIU Yu 2017Journal of Ocean University of China2017,16,3:4
Homocysteine aggravates cerebral hemorrhage in rats: Correlation with oxygen-free radical production and cell apoptosis in tissue surrounding hematoma显示文摘BACKGROUND:Previous studies have demonstrated that homocysteine is an independent risk factor for ischemic stroke,as determined by detection of apoptosis and oxygen-free radical scavengers following cerebral ischemia. However, the mechanisms of homocysteine remain unclear.Several reports have addressed the effects of homocysteine on ischemic stroke.OBJECTIVE:To analyze the effects of homocysteine on apoptosis, intracellular superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity, and malondialdehyde content in tissue surrounding hematoma in rats with cerebral hemorrhage, and to determine the action pathway of malondialdehyde following cerebral hemorrhage.DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:The randomized, controlled, animal experiment was performed at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology,Hospital Affiliated to Luzhou Medical College,China from April 2007 to April 2008.MATERIALS:In situ apoptosis detection kit(Roche,Mannheim,Germany),SOD detection kit and malondialdehyde detection kit(Nanjing Jiancheng Bioengineering Institute,China),and homocysteine(Sigma,St Louis,MO,USA) were used in the present study.METHODS:A total of 75 Sprague Dawley rats were equally and randomly assigned to sham surgery, model, and homocysteine groups.Autologous blood was infused into the caudate putamen of rats to establish models of cerebral hemorrhage in model and homocysteine groups.Homocysteine was injected directly into the brain through the skull at the hematoma hemisphere at 30 minutes after model induction in the homocysteine group.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:At 6,12,24,and 72 hours,as well as 1 week,post-surgery,neurological deficits were observed in each group.Brain water content was measured using the dry-wet weight method.Cell apoptosis in tissue surrounding the hematoma was detected utilizing terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling(TUNEL).SOD activity and malondialdehyde content in tissue surrounding the hematoma were respectively measured using the xanthine oxidase and thiobarbituric acid methods.RESULTS:Neurological function was similar between model and homocysteine groups following cerebral hemorrhage(P > 0.05).Brain water content was increased at 12 hours post-surgery,peaked at 3 days, and remained unchanged at 7 days in the model group.Brain edema was not significantly aggravated following homocysteine intervention(P > 0.05),but SOD activity significantly decreased and malondialdehyde content significantly increased(P < 0.05).The number of apoptotic cells increased in rats with cerebral hemorrhage at 12 hours(P < 0.05),and numbers peaked at 72 hours following model establishment(P < 0.05).The time of peak value was identical between model and homocysteine groups.Brain water content was negatively associated with SOD activity(rmodel group =-0.448,P < 0.05;rhomocysteine group =-0.612,P < 0.05),but was positively associated with malondialdehyde content(rmodel group = 0.542,P < 0.05;rhomocysteine group = 0.684,P < 0.05) in brain tissues surrounding the hematoma following surgery in model and homocysteine groups.CONCLUSION:Homocysteine aggravates neurological dysfunction and brain edema in rats with cerebral hemorrhage. The mechanisms of action are likely associated with production of oxygen-free radical and cellular apoptosis following cerebral hemorrhage.Yingying Liu Xinjun Li Chun Wang Chun Chen Ping Liu Qin Feng Duanxiu Liao Xiaogang Li 2010Neural Regeneration Research2010,5,13:3
Effect of Spatial and Temporal Scales on Habitat Suitability Modeling:A Case Study of Ommastrephes bartramii in the Northwest Pacific Ocean显示文摘Temporal and spatial scales play important roles in fishery ecology, and an inappropriate spatio-temporal scale may result in large errors in modeling fish distribution. The objective of this study is to evaluate the roles of spatio-temporal scales in habitat suitability modeling, with the western stock of winter-spring cohort of neon flying squid(Ommastrephes bartramii) in the northwest Pacific Ocean as an example. In this study, the fishery-dependent data from the Chinese Mainland Squid Jigging Technical Group and sea surface temperature(SST) from remote sensing during August to October of 2003–2008 were used. We evaluated the differences in a habitat suitability index model resulting from aggregating data with 36 different spatial scales with a combination of three latitude scales(0.5°, 1° and 2°), four longitude scales(0.5°, 1°, 2° and 4°), and three temporal scales(week, fortnight, and month). The coefficients of variation(CV) of the weekly, biweekly and monthly suitability index(SI) were compared to determine which temporal and spatial scales of SI model are more precise. This study shows that the optimal temporal and spatial scales with the lowest CV are month, and 0.5° latitude and 0.5° longitude for O. bartramii in the northwest Pacific Ocean. This suitability index model developed with an optimal scale can be cost-effective in improving forecasting fishing ground and requires no excessive sampling efforts. We suggest that the uncertainty associated with spatial and temporal scales used in data aggregations needs to be considered in habitat suitability modeling.GONG Caixia CHEN Xinjun GAO Feng TIAN Siquan 2014Journal of Ocean University of China2014,13,6:2
Linkages between the biomass of Scomber japonicus and net primary production in the southern East China Sea显示文摘Fish biomass is a critical component of fishery stock assessment and management and it is often estimated from ocean primary production(OPP). However, the relationship between the biomass of a fish stock and OPP is always complicated due to a variety of trophic controls in the ecosystem. In this paper, we examine the quantitative relationship between the biomass of chub mackerel(Scomber japonicus) and net primary production(NPP) in the southern East China Sea(SECS), using catch and effort data from the Chinese mainland large light-purse seine fishery logbook and NPP derived from remote sensing. We further discuss the mechanisms of trophic control in regulating this relationship. The results show a significant non-linear relationship exists between standardized CPUE(Catch-Per-Unit-Effort) and NPP(P<0.05). This relationship can be described by a convex parabolic curve, where the biomass of chub mackerel increases with NPP to a maximum and then decreases when the NPP exceeds this point. The results imply that the ecosystem in the SECS is subject to complex trophic controls. We speculate that the change in abundance of key species at intermediate trophic levels and/or interspecific competition might contribute to this complex relationship.GUAN Wenjiang CHEN Xinjun GAO Feng LI Gang 2014Acta Oceanologica Sinica2014,33,10:2
Rheological properties and microscopic mechanism of waste cooking oil activated waste crumb rubber modified asphalt显示文摘In this paper, the surface activated crumb rubber with waste cooking oil(WCO)was studied to improve the performance of crumb rubber modified asphalt. The activated waste crumb rubber modified asphalt(OCRMA)with different amount of crumb rubber was prepared to study the microscopic appearance of OCRMA by scanning electron microscope and fluorescence microscope and analyze the surface performance. The rheological properties and microscopic mechanism of OCRMA were characterized by dynamic shear rheological test, multiple stress creep recovery(MSCR)test,BBR test and infrared spectroscopy. The results show that the dissolution degree of waste crumb rubber is improved after WCO activation, and the compatibility with asphalt components is enhanced, and the stable cross-linking structure is formed, which improves the asphalt performance. The several new absorption peaks, which were obvious, were all caused by the composition of WCO,that is,there was no significant chemical change during the interaction between the activated crumb rubber and base asphalt.Compared with the common waste crumb rubber modified asphalt(CRMA),activation with WCO can significantly reduce the viscosity of CRMA,decrease the difference of segregation softening point by 27%,and enhance the low temperature performance by 30%.The aging degree is greatly reduced, and the anti-aging performance of OCRMA is increased by about 20%with the same dosage. The high temperature performance, though higher than that of base asphalt, decreases to some extent. After comprehensive analysis, the optimal dosage of crumb rubber for OCRMA is 30%.Xinjun Feng Hui Liang Zijian Dai 2022Journal of Road Engineering2022,2,4:2
Effects of La^(3+) Non-Uniformly Doping in TiO_2 Films on Photocatalytic Activities显示文摘TiO2 thin films non-uniformly doped by La 3+ were prepared by sol-gel method. The comparison of thin film activities, which was characterized by photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange, shows that doping modes have great effects on photocatalytic activities. The non-uniformly doped TiO2 films result in good photocatalytic activities with an optimal concentration; about 0.5%(atom fraction). UV-Vis transmittance spectra indicate that the absorption edges of these TiO2 thin films shift to ward longer wavelengths remarkably, and electrochemical behavior also reveales that e--h+ pairs are prone to formation and separation under UV irradiation. The mechanism of photocatalytic activities are enhanced by La 3+ non-uniformly doping was discussed on the analogy of the theory of “window effect” of solar cell heterojunction.Cen Jiwen Li Xinjun He Mingxing Zheng Shaojian Feng Manzhi 2005Journal of Rare Earths2005,23,6:2
