1Advanced treatment of dyeing wastewater towards reuse by the combined Fenton oxidation and membrane bioreactor process显示文摘The performance of combined Fenton oxidation and membrane bioreactor (MBR) process for the advanced treatment of an effluent from an integrated dyeing wastewater treatment plant was evaluated. The experimental results revealed that under the optimum Fenton oxidation conditions (initial pH 5, H 2 O 2 dosage 17 mmol/L, and Fe 2+ 1.7 mmol/L) the average total organic carbon (TOC) and color removal ratios were 39.3% and 69.5% after 35 min of reaction, respectively. Results from Zahn-Wallens Test also represented that Fenton process was effective to enhance the biodegradability of the test wastewater. As for the further purification of MBR process, TOC removal capacity was examined at different hydraulic retention times (HRT) of 10, 18 and 25 hr. Under the optimum HRT of 18 hr, the average TOC concentration and color of the final MBR effluent were 16.8 mg/L and 2 dilution time, respectively. The sludge yield coefficient was 0.13 g MLSS/g TOC and TOC degradation rate was 0.078 kg TOC/(m 3 ·day). 7MiR-181b suppresses proliferation of and reduces chemoresistance to temozolomide in U87 glioma stem cells显示文摘MicroRNAs regulate self renewal and differentiation of cancer stem cells.There,we sought to identify the expression of miR-181b in glioma stem cells and investigate the biological effect of miR-181b on glioma stem cells in this study.MiR-181b expression was measured by real-time PCR in glioma stem cells isolated from U87 cells by FACS sorting.After miR-181b was overexpressed in U87 glioma stem cells by miR-181b lentiviral expression vector and/or treatment of temozolomide,secondary neurosphere assay,soft agar colony assay and MTT assay were performed.Compared with U87 cells,the expression of miR-181b was significantly decreased in U87 glioma stem cells.Overexpression of miR-181b decreased neurosphere formation by U87 glioma stem cells in vitro and suppressed colony formation in soft agar,and the cell growth inhibition rates increased in a time-dependent manner in U87 glioma stem cells infected with miR-181b lentivirus.Furthermore,miR-181b had a synergistic effect on temozolomide-induced inhibition of secondary neurosphere and soft agar colony,and on cell growth inhibition rates.MiR-181b functions as a tumor suppressor that suppresses proliferation and reduces chemoresistance to temozolomide in glioma stem cells.Ping Li Xiaoming Lu Yingyi Wang Lihua Sun Chunfa Qian Wei Yan Ning Liu Yongping You Zhen Fu 2010The Journal of Biomedical Research2010,24,6:14

9Protective Effect of Resveratrol on the Brain in a Rat Model of Epilepsy显示文摘Accumulating evidence has suggested resveratrol as a promising drug candidate for the treatment of epilepsy. To validate this, we tested the protective effect of resveratrol on a kainic acid(KA)-induced epilepsy model in rats and investigated the underlying mechanism. We found that acute resveratrol application partially inhibited evoked epileptiform discharges in the hippocampal CA1 region. During acute, silent and chronic phases of epilepsy,the expression of hippocampal kainate glutamate receptor(GluK2) and the GABAAreceptor alpha1 subunit(GABAAR-alpha1) was up-regulated and down-regulated,respectively. Resveratrol reversed these effects and induced an antiepileptic effect. Furthermore, in the chronic phase, resveratrol treatment inhibited the KA-induced increased glutamate/GABA ratio in the hippocampus. 10Quantitative study of tectonic geomorphology along Haiyuan fault based on airborne LiDAR显示文摘High-precision and high-resolution topography are the fundamental data for active fault research.Light detection and ranging(LiDAR)presents a new approach to build detailed digital elevation models effectively.We take the Haiyuan fault in Gansu Province as an example of how LiDAR data may be used to improve the study of active faults and the risk assessment of related hazards.In the eastern segment of the Haiyuan fault,the Shaomayin site has been comprehensively investigated in previous research because of its exemplary tectonic topographic features.Based on unprecedented LiDAR data,the horizontal and vertical coseismic offsets at the Shaomayin site are described.The measured horizontal value is about 8.6 m,and the vertical value is about 0.8 m.Using prior dating ages sampled from the same location,we estimate the horizontal slip rate as4.0±1.0 mm/a with high confidence and define that the lower bound of the vertical slip rate is 0.4±0.1 mm/a since the Holocene.LiDAR data can repeat the measurements of field work on quantifying offsets of tectonic landform features quite well.The offset landforms are visualized on an office computer workstation easily,and specialized software may be used to obtain displacement quantitatively.By combining precious chronological results,the fundamentallink between fault activity and large earthquakes is better recognized,as well as the potential risk for future earthquake hazards.Tao Chen Pei Zhen Zhang Jing Liu Chuan You Li Zhi Kun Ren Kenneth W. 11Speciation and fractionation of heavy metals in soil experimentally contaminated with Pb, Cd, Cu and Zn together and effects on soil negative surface charge显示文摘Speciation and fractionation of heavy metals in soil subsamples experimentally loaded with Pb, Cd, Cu and Zn in orthogonal design was investigated by sequential extraction, and operationally defined as water soluble and exchangeable(SE), weakly specific adsorbed(WSA), Fe and Mn oxides bound(OX) and organic bound(ORG). The results showed that fractions of heavy metals in the soil subsamples depended on their speciation. About 90% of Cd and 75% of Zn existed in soil subsamples in the SE fraction. Lead and Cu existed in soil subsamples as SE, WSA and OX fractions simultaneously, although SE was still the major fraction. Organic bound heavy metals were not clearly apparent in all the soil subsamples. The concentration of some heavy metal fractions in soil subsamples showed the good correlation with ionic impulsion of soil, especially for the SE fraction. Continuous saturation of soil subsamples with 0.20 mol/L NH 4Cl, which is the first step for determination of the negative surface charge of soil by the ion retention method, resulted in desorption of certain heavy metals from the soil. It was found that the percentage desorption of heavy metals from soil subsamples depended greatly on pH, the composition and original heavy metal content of the soil subsamples. However, most of the heavy metals in the soil subsamples were still be retained after multiple saturation. Compared with the parent soil, the negative surface charge of soil subsamples loaded with heavy metals did not show difference significantly from that of the parent one by statistical analysis. 12NbN superconducting nanowire single photon detector with efficiency over 90% at 1550 nm wavelength operational at compact cryocooler temperature显示文摘The rapid development of superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors over the past decade has led to numerous advances in quantum information technology. The record for the best system detection efficiency at an incident photon wavelength of 1550 nm is 93%. This performance was attained from a superconducting nanowire single-photon detector made of amorphous WSi; such detectors are usually operated at sub-Kelvin temperatures. In this study, we first demonstrate superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors made of polycrystalline NbN with system detection efficiency of 90.2% for 1550-nm-wavelength photons at2.1 K, accessible with a compact cryocooler. The system detection efficiency saturated at 92.1% when the temperature was lowered to 1.8 K. 13Effect of alginic acid decomposing bacterium on the growth of Laminaria japonica (Phaeophyceae)显示文摘We collected the diseased blades of Laminaria japonica from Yantai Sea Farm from October to December 2002, and the alginic acid decomposing bacterium on the diseased blade was isolated and purified, and was identified as Alteromon as espejiana. This bacterium was applied as the causative pathogen to infect the blades of L. japonica under laboratory conditions. The aim of the present study was to identify the effects of the bacterium on the growth of L. japonica, and to find the possibly effective mechanism. Results showed that: (1) The blades of L. japonica exhibited symptoms of lesion, bleaching and deterioration when infe cted by the bacterium, and their growth and photosynthesis were dramatically sup pressed. At the same time, the reactive oxygen species(ROS) generation enhanced obviously, and the relative membrane permeability increased significantly. The c ontents of malonaldehyde(MDA) and free fatty acid in the microsomol membrane gre atly elevated, but the phospholipid content decreased. Result suggested an obvio us peroxidation and deesterrification in the blades of L. japonica when infected by the bacterium. (2) The simultaneous assay on the antioxidant enzyme activiti es demonstrated that superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase(CAT) increased grea tly when infected by the bacterium, but glutathione peroxidase(Gpx) and ascorbat e peroxidase(APX) did not exhibit active responses to the bacterium throughout t he experiment. (3) The histomorphological observations gave a distinctive eviden ce of the severity of the lesions as well as the relative abundance in the bacte rial population on the blades after infection. 14The Chinese Hα Solar Explorer(CHASE) mission: An overview显示文摘The Chinese Hα Solar Explorer(CHASE), dubbed “Xihe”—Goddess of the Sun, was launched on October 14, 2021 as the first solar space mission of China National Space Administration(CNSA). The CHASE mission is designed to test a newly developed satellite platform and to acquire the spectroscopic observations in the Hα waveband. The Hα Imaging Spectrograph(HIS)is the scientific payload of the CHASE satellite. It consists of two observational modes: raster scanning mode and continuum imaging mode. The raster scanning mode obtains full-Sun or region-of-interest spectral images from 6559.7 to 6565.9 ? and from 6567.8 to 6570.6 ? with 0.024 ? pixel spectral resolution and 1 min temporal resolution. The continuum imaging mode obtains photospheric images in continuum around 6689 ? with the full width at half maximum of 13.4 ?. The CHASE mission will advance our understanding of the dynamics of solar activity in the photosphere and chromosphere. 16STABILITY IN THE CIRCULAR PIPE FLOW OF FIBER SUSPENSIONS显示文摘A linear stability analysis on the circular pipe flow of fiber suspensions is presented. The fiber orientation tensors are used to describe the characteristics of the orientation distribution of fibers. The constitutive equation for the fiber suspensions is set up and the modified Orr Sommerfeld stability equation is derived. An improved finite difference method with high order accuracy is employed to solve the equation. The Newtonian pipe Poiseuille flow corresponding to H=0 is also analyzed for comparison. The results reveal that the fiber additives will enhance the flow stability, the degree of enhancement becomes high with the increases of the parameter H which accounts for the fiber resistance to the stretching along its axis. Fiber suspensions with large H can suppress the influence of high Reynolds number on the flow stability. 19Prognostic value of lymphovascular invasion in Bismuth-Corlette type Ⅳ hilar cholangiocarcinoma显示文摘AIM To assess the prognostic value of lymphovascular invasion(LVI)in Bismuth-Corlette typeⅣhilar cholangiocarcinoma(HC)patients. METHODS A retrospective analysis was performed on 142consecutively recruited typeⅣHC patients undergoing radical resection with at least 5 years of followup.Survival analysis was performed by the KaplanMeier method,and the association between the clinicopathologic variables and survival was evaluated by log-rank test.Multivariate analysis was adopted to identify the independent prognostic factors for overall survival(OS)and disease-free survival(DFS).Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the association between LVI and potential variables. RESULTS LVI was confirmed histopathologically in 29(20.4%)patients.Multivariate analysis showed that positive resection margin(HR=6.255,95%CI:3.485-11.229,P<0.001),N1 stage(HR=2.902,95%CI:1.132-7.439,P=0.027),tumor size>30 mm(HR=1.942,95%CI:1.176-3.209,P=0.010)and LVI positivity(HR=2.799,95%CI:1.588-4.935,P<0.001)were adverse prognostic factors for DFS.The independent risk factors for OS were positive resection margin(HR=6.776,95%CI:3.988-11.479,P<0.001),N1 stage(HR=2.827,95%CI:1.243-6.429,P=0.013),tumor size>30 mm(HR=1.739,95%CI:1.101-2.745,P=0.018)and LVI positivity(HR=2.908,95%CI:1.712-4.938,P<0.001).LVI was associated with N1 stage and tumor size>30 mm.Multiple logistic regression analysis indicated that N1 stage(HR=3.312,95%CI:1.338-8.198,P=0.026)and tumor size>30 mm(HR=3.258,95%CI:1.288-8.236,P=0.013)were associated with LVI. 20Evaluating the suitability of different terrains for sustaining human settlements according to the local elevation range in China using the ASTER GDEM显示文摘The topographical suitability assessment of human settlements(SAHS) creates a solid foundation for regional population distribution and socio-economic development. Local elevation range(LER) is an important factor that can be used to assess the suitability of different terrains for sustaining human settlements. However, current digital elevation model(DEM)-based LER products suffer from some challenges typically because of their subjectively selected neighborhood scales and coarser spatial resolution. In this study, we initially determined the optimal statistical window and then calculated the appropriate LER with the finer resolution data of the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer Global DEM(ASTER GDEM) products for China. Then, the appropriate LER was used to evaluate the topographical SAHS and its correlations with the national gridded population distribution(1 km × 1 km) in 2010. The results show that the optimal statistical window for calculating a 1 arc-second(about 30 m) resolution GDEM LER for China can be determined using a 51 × 51 grid unit(width × height) within a rectangular neighborhood, corresponding to an area of about 2.34 km^2. Secondly, the LER values in the southern and western China were greater than those of the north and east, showing a trend which consistently reflects the general spatial features of landforms. Finally, the relationship between GDEM LER and population density was highly correlated with the R^2 value of 0.81. It showed that 85.22% of the Chinese population was located in areas where the LER is lower than 500 m. The topographically suitable area within China decreased from the southeastern coastal zone towards the northwestern inland areas due to transition from plains and basins to plateaus and mountains. The total area of moderate to high suitable level was 423.84 × 10~4 km^2, or 44.15% of the total land area, with 88.17% of the national population.
