| 1 | Effects of dietary yeast β-glucan on nutrient digestibility and serum profiles in pre-ruminant Holstein calves显示文摘This study aimed to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation of yeast β-glucan on the nutrient digestibility and serum profiles in pre-ruminant Holstein calves. Forty-two neonatal Holstein calves((39.6±4.2) kg) were randomly allotted to six groups, and each was offered one of the following diets: a basal diet(control) or the basal diet supplemented with 25, 50, 75, 100 or 200 mg of yeast β-glucan kg–1 feed(dry matter basis). The basal diet consisted of a milk replacer and a starter feed. The trial lasted for 56 d. Two digestibility trials were conducted from d 14 to 20 and from d 42 to 48. Blood samples were collected on d 0, 14, 28 and 42 for serum profile analyses. On d 56, three calves from each group were slaughtered, and intestinal samples were collected to assess the villous height, crypt depth and mucosal thickness. Although feed intake was not affected by dietary treatment(P>0.05), the average daily gain(ADG) and gain-to-feed ratios were higher(P<0.05) for the calves fed 75 mg of yeast β-glucan kg–1 feed than those in the other groups. The supplementation of yeast β-glucan at 75 mg kg–1 feed increased the apparent digestibility of dry matter(DM), crude protein(CP), ether extract(EE), and phosphorus(P)(P<0.05) and the ratio of intestinal villous height to crypt depth(V/C)(P<0.05) when compared with the control group. No effects of yeast β-glucan on the serum concentrations of total protein(TP), albumin(ALB), serum urea nitrogen(SUN) and glucose(GLU) were observed(P>0.05). Compared with the control group, supplementation of yeast β-glucan decreased(P<0.05) the serum concentrations of triglycerides(TG) and total cholesterol(TC). The serum concentration of immunoglobulin G(Ig G) and immunoglobulin M(Ig M) increased quadratically(P<0.05), whereas the serum concentration of immunoglobulin A(Ig A) was unaffected by dietary treatments(P>0.05). The supplementation of yeast β-glucan stimulated the enzymatic activity of alkaline phosphatase(ALP)(P<0.05) compared with the control group. The lysozyme(LYZ) concentration increased quadratically(P<0.05) with increasing yeast β-glucan levels. | 5 | Comparison of Undernutrition Prevalence of Children under 5 Years in China between 2002 and 2013显示文摘Objective To describe the undernutrition status of children under 5-year in China, and study the trend between 2002 and 2013. Methods The study was based on two national surveys. Undernutrition was determined against WHO's 2006 growth standards. The prevalence in 2013 and 2002 was weighted by China sixth National Population Census(2010). The relationship between undernutrition and gender/age groups/different areas use weighted logistic regression. Results The results indicated the overall prevalence of stunting, underweight, and wasting of Chinese children under 5-year was 8.1%, 2.4%, and 1.9% in 2013, respectively. The prevalence of stunting was higher for children aged 12-47 month, while underweight was higher for children aged 48-59 month. The prevalence of undernutrition was higher in rural areas than in urban areas, especially in poor rural areas. There was a decline of stunting, underweight, and wasting between 2002 and 2013 among the children, with greater reduction in rural areas than in urban areas. Conclusion The prevalence of undernutrition of children under 5-year remains high in rural areas especially in poor rural areas in China. | 6 | Microwave ablation is as effective as radiofrequency ablation for very-early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘Background: Percutaneous radiofrequency ablation(RFA) is a first?line treatment for very?early?stage hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC), whereas the efficacy of percutaneous microwave ablation(MWA) for very?early?stage HCC remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to clarify this issue by comparing the safety and efficacy of percutaneous MWA with percutaneous RFA in treating very?early?stage HCC.Methods: Clinical data of 460 patients who were diagnosed with very?early?stage HCC and treated with percutane?ous MWA or RFA between January 2007 and July 2012 at the Eastern Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital, The Second Mili?tary Medical University, in Shanghai, China were retrospectively analyzed. Of these 460 patients, 159 received RFA, 301 received MWA. Overall survival(OS), recurrence?free survival(RFS), local tumor progression(LTP), complete ablation, and complication occurrence rates were compared between the two groups, and the prognostic factors associated with survival were analyzed.Results: No significant differences were observed between the two groups in terms of the 1?, 3?, or 5?year OS rates(99.3%, 90.4%, and 78.3% for MWA vs. 98.7%, 86.8%, and 73.3% for RFA, respectively; P = 0.331). Furthermore, no signif?icant differences were observed between the two groups in terms of the corresponding RFS rates(94.4%, 71.8%, and 46.9% for MWA vs. 89.9%, 67.3%, and 54.9% for RFA, respectively; P ete ablation rates(98.3% vs. 98.1%, P = 0.309), the LTP rates(9.6% vs. 10.1%, P = 0.883), the compl multivariate analysis, LTP, an= 0.860), or the occurrence rates of major complications(0.7% vs. 0.6%, P = 0.691). | 12 | Combined effects of p53 and MDM2 polymorphisms on susceptibility and surgical prognosis in hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘The p53 signaling pathway works as a potent barrier to tumor progression.Two single nucleotide polymor-phisms(SNPs)in the gene loci of p53 pathway,p53 codon 72 Arg72Pro and MDM2 SNP309(T>G),have been shown to cause perturbation of p53 function,but the effect of the two SNPs on the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)remains inconsistent.This study in-vestigated the influence of combined p53 Arg72Pro and MDM2 SNP309 on the risk of developing HCC in pa-tients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection,and evaluated the significance of the two combined SNPs on patient prognosis.In total,350 HCC patients,230 non-HCC patients,and 96 healthy controls were geno-typed for the p53 Arg72Pro and MDM2 SNP309.The combined p53 Pro/Pro and MDM2 G/G genotype was significantly associated with HCC risk(P=0.047).Mul-tivariate analysis indicated that combined p53 Pro/Pro and MDM2 G/G genotype was an independent factor affecting recurrence and survival(P<0.05).Patients with combined p53 Pro/Pro and MDM2 G/G genotypes had a poorer prognosis than other genotypes,P<0.01 for both disease-free survival(DFS)and overall survival(OS).DFS and OS rates also differed significantly be-tween Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer(BCLC)stage A patients with combined p53 Pro/Pro and MDM2 G/G and other genotypes(P<0.05).Thus,the combined p53 Pro/Pro and MDM2 G/G genotype is associated with increased risk of developing HCC and is an independ-ent adverse prognostic indicator in early stage HCC. | Yun Yang Tian Xia Ning Li Jin Zhang Yuan Yang Wenming Cong Qiang Deng Ke Lan Weiping Zhou | 2013 | Protein & Cell2013,4,1: | 8 |

| 15 | LncR NA H19 and Target Gene-mediated Cleft Palate Induced by TCDD显示文摘This study investigated the role of long non‐coding RNAs(lnc RNAs) in the development of the palatal tissues. Cleft palates in mice were induced by 2,3,7,8‐tetrachlorodibenzo‐p‐dioxin(TCDD). Expression levels of long non‐coding RNA H19(lncR NA H19) and insulin‐like growth factor 2(IGF2) gene were measured by quantitative real‐time polymerase chain reaction(q RT‐PCR). The rate of occurrence of cleft palate was found to be 100% by TCDD exposure, and TCDD could cause short upper limb, cerebral fissure, webbed neck, and short neck. The expression levels of lnc RNA H19 and IGF2 gene specifically showed embryo age‐related differences on E13, E14, and E15 in the palatal tissues. The expression levels of lnc RNA H19 and IGF2 gene showed an inverse relationship on E13, E14, and E15. | 16 | Endocrine Disruption Activity of 30-day Dietary Exposure to Decabromodiphenyl Ethane in Balb/C Mouse显示文摘Objective This study aimed to evaluate the hepatotoxicity,metabolic disturbance activity and endocrine disrupting activity of mice treated by Decabromodiphenyl ethane(DBDPE).Methods In this study,Balb/C mice were treated orally by gavage with various doses of DBDPE.After 30 days of treatment,mice were sacrificed; blood,livers and thyroid glands were obtained,and hepatic microsomes were isolated.Biochemical parameters including 8 clinical chemistry parameters,blood glucose and hormone levels including insulin and thyroid hormone were assayed.The effects of DBDPE on hepatic cytochrome P450(CYP) levels and activities and uridinediphosphate-glucuronosyltransferase(UDPGT) activities were investigated.Liver and thyroid glands were observed.Results There were no obvious signs of toxicity and no significant treatment effect on body weight,or liver-to-body weight ratios between treatment groups.The levels of ALT and AST of higher dose treatment groups were markedly increased.Blood glucose levels of treatment groups were higher than those of control group.There was also an induction in TSH,T3,and f T3.UDPGT,PROD,and EROD activities were found to have been increased significantly in the high dose group.Histopathologic liver changes were characterized by hepatocyte hypertrophy and cytoplasmic vacuolization.Our findings suggest that DBDPE can cause a certain degree of mouse liver damage and insufficiency.Conclusion DBDPE has the activity of endocrine disruptors in Bal/C mice,which may induce drug-metabolizing enzymes including CYPs and UDPGT,and interfere with thyroid hormone levels mediated by Ah R and CAR signaling pathways.Endocrine disrupting activity of DBDPE could also affect the glucose metabolism homeostasis. | SUN Ru Bao SHANG Shuai ZHANG Wei LIN Ben Cheng WANG Qiang SHI Yun XI Zhu Ge | 2018 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2018,31,1: | 7 |
| 17 | Grain-filling characteristics and yield differences of maize cultivars with contrasting nitrogen efficiencies显示文摘To investigate the effect of nitrogen management on the grain-filling characteristics and yield formation of maize cultivars with contrasting nitrogen efficiencies,and to identify differences in grain-filling characteristics and yield of maize cultivars in response to nitrogen management,a two-year field experiment was conducted in southwest China in2015–2016.The grain-filling rate and duration of the N-inefficient cultivar XY 508 were higher than those of the N-efficient cultivar ZH 311.The 100-kernel weight of XY 508 was significantly higher than that of ZH 311.The kernel number per ear of ZH 311 was significantly higher than that of XY 508,making the population filling rate of ZH 311 significantly higher than that of XY 508.The higher population filling rate of the N-efficient maize cultivar led to a significant yield advantage over the N-inefficient maize cultivar.Nitrogen management effectively improved maize grain yield,but the response of maize cultivars with contrasting nitrogen efficiencies to nitrogen management was inconsistent.A basal fertilizer ratio 60.43%with a topdressing ratio 39.57%effectively increased grainfilling rate,delayed the time to maximum filling rate,prolonged the active filling period and effective grain-filling time,increased the 100-kernel weight,and maintained higher kernels per ear,thereby improving the population filling rate and maximizing the yield advantage of the N-efficient cultivar.A 100%basal fertilizer ratio not only increased the number of kernels per ear,but also maintained high grain filling characteristics to obtain a higher 100-kernel weight and increased the population filling rate,leading to a high grain yield in the N-inefficient cultivar.Thus,the 100%basal fertilizer ratio partially compensated for the deficient grain yield of the N-inefficient cultivar. | Qiang Li Lunjing Du Dongju Feng Yun Ren Zhexin Li Fanlei Kong Jichao Yuan | 2020 | The Crop Journal2020,8,6: | 5 |
| 18 | Malnutrition in Relation with Dietary, Geographical, and Socioeconomic Factors among Older Chinese显示文摘Objective Nutrition is closely related to the health of the elderly population. This study aimed to provide a comprehensive picture of the nutrition status of elderly Chinese and its related dietary,geographical, and socioeconomic factors.Methods A total of 13,987 ≥ 60-year-old persons from the 2010–2013 Chinese National Nutrition and Health Survey were included to evaluate various aspects of malnutrition, including underweight,overweight or obesity, and micronutrient inadequacy.Results Overall, the prevalence of obesity, overweight, and underweight was 12.4%, 34.8%, and 5.7%,respectively, with disparities both geographically and socioeconomically. The prevalence of underweight was higher among the older old(≥ 75 years), rural residents and those with low income, with low education status, and residing in undeveloped West areas. More than 75% of the elderly do not meet the Dietary Reference Intakes for vitamins A, B1, B2, and E, folate, calcium, selenium, potassium, biotin,and choline, with the prevalence of inadequate intake increasing with age for most nutrients.
